Kym Johnson Not Returning To Dancing With The Stars Season 17
There are times when it’s so hard to report something….and this is one of those times. Kym Johnson will not be returning for Dancing With The Stars Season 17! According to US Weekly, she has an “amazing opportunity” to do something else. Though the bright spot is that it’s “not for good”. Below is more in detail.
After 14 seasons on Dancing With the Stars, Kym Johnson is hanging up her dancing shoes. The 37-year-old Australian professional ballroom dancer exclusively tells Us Weekly that she’s leaving the ABC reality dance competition show — but not for good!
“I will be taking the next season off from DWTS USA, so that I may accept an amazing work opportunity back home in Australia,” Johnson tells Us, although she declined to go into further detail about the new home country gig. “I am excited, nervous and humbled by this chance and look forward to sharing more about it with you soon.”
For the full article, visit US Weekly. There is a beautiful picture there too that’s making me cry looking at it. What an amazing dancing career she’s had!! Much love and luck, Kym!! We’re going to miss you!!xxx
UPDATE: According to this tweet, Kym is going to be a judge on the revamped “Dancing With The Stars” in Australia. Very cool and so deserving!! Thanks to Sally for this news.
[…] the magazine, that she has an “amazing work opportunity back home in Australia.” More here. Thanks to Lori for the heads up. Also, Chelsie tweeted of receiving “good and bad […]
🙁 Awwwww she’s my favorite!! It won’t be the same without her! But at least it’s not for good.
Good Luck Kym!! I will miss you.
Well, here’s an interesting tweet:

A judge on the Aussie DWTS…
Good luck to Kym!
I think she may be involved in the DWTS Australia reboot- perhaps in more of a presenting/ judging capacity, as oppose to a Pro.
I am very sad about this news. I was looking forward to seeing Kym in season 17. She’s always sweet and supportive of her partners and other celebrities. Plus, she always looks great, what with that amazing body and charm. But I totally support her and wish her the best in her career.
Kim always had such a great attitude. I will miss her.
I will miss her kindness but hope to see her back in the spring, she truly is phenomenal!
Good for Kym. She’ll be dearly missed.
Well I love Kym and I hate she’s not coming back!! But on the other hand I’m so happy to hear she’s getting the opportunity to be a judge in Australia!!!! She has so earned it and I feel she’ll be great at that. I’ll just miss her sweet and always cheery demeanor on our DWTS, but I hope she’s feeling very accomplished and happy right now. She ought too be. 😀
Ahhh, this makes me sad as Kym is my favorite female pro…Loved, loved, loved her with Hines! However, it is not totally unexpected. She had made comments earlier this year that she was thinking about hanging up her dance shoes. If the tweet from the Aussie Peter Ford is true, being a judge may be in Kym’s future. Perhaps she could be like Len and Bruno who judge two shows and do both the Aussie version and the US version of DWTS. It appears like she recently purchased a home in the LA area so I think she will be back here on a regular basis. I will miss her greatly but wish her the very best!
@Sally – Thanks for the info. What an awesome opportunity for Kym, Just perfect. 🙂
Happy for Kym’s new venture in Australia although I will miss her. I hope she is very successful and also enjoys the experience.
All the best to our Kym! I’m so happy for her and sad for US DWTS. What will we do without “she of the awesome boobage” and sweet personality? If it’s indeed true that she’ll be a judge on Aussie DWTS, our loss is definitely their gain.
Getting ahead of things here, but I think it would be fantastic if after a successful season judging “Down Under”, she could replace CAI on US DWTS.
love Kym and would be great to see her on the panel back in oz!! but if she does take the gig, she wont be back for season 18, the summer off ratings period is dec-feb so the show won’t be on air until mid-feb at the earliest.
SYTCD is also getting relaunched in Australia so she could be up for a judging spot there?? Australia’s answer to Mary Murphy haha
i will miss her so much! she is amazing. good luck, Kym!
Not unexpected and I wish her all things best. The unique class and aura that have made her arguably thee most widely liked pro will be sorely missed this season but will undoubtedly serve her well in whatever endeavors she chooses to persue. Whether that includes a return to DWTS USA or not, she’ll always be a part of the show IME (and hopefully have open invitation in TPTB’s).
“she could replace CAI on US DWTS”,I completely agree Cidra, enthusiastically, wholeheartedly…etc. I bet she would be fair and kind. But maybe that doesn’t make for “good” tv.
Well said, Cidra. At least she would be unlikely to fall out of her chair or stab herself in the head with her jewelry! 😉
Saw the headline and was sad to be losing Kym! But, then I read the post and saw that it wasn’t a permanent departure.
As a dancer Karina is my favorite female pro. But, as a teacher/partner Kym ranks highest with me–she knows how to adapt to each partner and get them to do their best!
I’m glad to see that she is getting another opportunity back home! It’s always good to be able to try new things and spend time at home. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to spend so much of one’s time so far from home and family.
Good luck Kym–gonna miss you!
Cori
Kym is 37?????? She doesn’t look it! Will miss her. I wonder who will replace her? Is it true that Emma is on SCD or was that a rumour?
LOL, Jim! 😀 I just about choked on my tea when I read your comment.
I haven’t seen much of anything on the web about Dancing with the Stars Australia… but SYTYCD Aus. *is* starting up, with initial auditions in September, and there are reports of it having “a new host and judges”…
Good guesses. I thought maybe even host of an Australian talk/entertainment show. We’ll miss you, Kym. Wish I could visit Australia/New Zealand.
