USA Today Interviews And Breaks Down The New Contestants For Dancing With The Stars Season 17

USA Today breaks down all the new contestants for the new season of Dancing With The Stars Season 17. Each contestant remarks on their dance experience, what the rehearsals have been like leading up to the premiere, their biggest fears and challenges, and much more. Since we haven’t heard much from Team Daughatroyd yet, here is their feature on Brant. More on the other contestants at USA Today. Less than 24 hours to go now, Dancettes! We can do this!

Brant Daugherty

Age: 28

Pro dance partner: Peta Murgatroyd

How we know him: Pretty Little Liars, Army Wives, Days of Our Lives

Dancing experience: “Limited to the stage at my high school doing musicals. I really just wasn’t that good at it, so I wanted to develop my skills here a little bit.”

Expectations: “I was pretty cocky initially, and then when the rehearsals started and I started to see what we were actually doing, they knocked me down a couple of pegs. Peta has been reassuring me at every step that I’m ahead of the game, so I think we’re going to do well. I think we can win. I don’t know if we will, but I think we have it in us.”

Biggest fear: “That I’m going to get hurt and won’t be able to continue. I don’t do the sidelines well. If I get hurt and can’t do it, I know I’m going to still want to and I won’t be able to, and that terrifies me.”

Biggest obstacle: “Just getting my hips to move the right way. I grew up across the street from a cornfield in Ohio and now they want me to have these Latin hips. I have Midwestern cornfield hips. But we’ve been doing exercises to loosen me up and they’re going pretty well.”

What hurts: “My feet, definitely. They were pretty sore the first week. They’re getting better now. They had me putting them in ice baths at the end of rehearsal every time.”

Team name: “There are some terrible ones being thrown around: Daughatroyd, Team Breta and Team Pant. I don’t like any of them. We’ve got to come up with something better.”

Christina Milian In Love And Preparing For Her First Dance On Dancing With The Stars (Video)

Even though she hasn’t danced yet on the show, Christina Milian tells People, she’s just glad she’s come this far. She’s just trying to “stay in the zone” as she gets ready for her first performance on Dancing With The Stars. Christina also chats about how she’s in love and what she might do with her new dance education. You can watch a cute video at the link. Below is also a quote….

“This is great preparation for a wedding dance, a prom dance, a performance dance, anything you could think of,” Milian says.

Milian adds that trying something new is rewarding.

“I’m really proud of myself for doing this. And getting, you know, even this far. We haven’t even had the first show, but I’m trying to just stay in my zone and get ready for that first performance.”

PureDWTS Exclusive: Sharna Burgess Talks Of Keyshawn Johnson, Their Rehearsals, Costume Hints, And More

Hey All! We have a new PureDWTS exclusive interview with Dancing With The Stars pro Sharna Burgess to share…and just in time before the premiere!!! She tells us about her summer. She also talks about what it was like meeting Keyshawn Johnson and what their rehearsals have been like so far. Sharna also highlights his strengths and weaknesses. For an extra bonus, Sharna also gives us a wee hint about their costumes for tomorrow night (Say wha…. Sharna? lol). Too fun, lots more below….. and Sharna thank you thank so much!!!! Go get em tomorrow night!!xxx

Hey Sharna!! How are you? How was your summer and how does it feel to be back to work on Dancing With The Stars?

My summer was wonderful, it just went by so damn fast!!! I feel like we just finished last season! I was working a lot and then relaxing a lot too. My mum came over from Australia and stayed for 5 weeks. It was so amazing, that’s the most time I’ve spent with my mum in 10 years, I’ve been away so long I usually only get 10 days over Xmas.

It feels so good to be back, and I am just so excited about this season. We are going to see some incredible dancing! We literally have people that have danced for a living in our cast, Corbin, Elizabeth, and Christina, I’m totally expecting something special from these guys. And I have a feeling Derek will make some magic with Amber, that girls personality is just heaven, so much fun and so much sass.. And we know I love sass on the dance floor 😉

It’s the new format too so I’m waiting to see how it all feels just like you guys are. I will say that I’m pumped for it though, I think it’s going to be great.

What was it like meeting Keyshawn for the first time?? Did you have fun in New York City with the Cast Announcement and what was the whole experience like?

It’s was amazing meeting Keyshawn, I was super excited to have an athlete and his such a cool guy on top of it all. I have a lot of love for that man. His really thrown himself into this process 150%, and if there’s anything I keep hearing about him it’s that his driven and dedicated.

We had to rehearse in Maui for the first week, and of course that was just beautiful. I had never been to Hawaii before and I absolutely fell in love with it. I seriously want to retire there one day!

GMA was fun!! Finally getting us all in the same room was nice. There was lots of catching up and lots of introductions going on, and truly everyone on the cast is so lovely! I feel like this season is going to be fun again 🙂

How are rehearsals going for your first dance so far? Can you weigh on Keyshawn’s strengths and weaknesses?

His doing great!! Our cha cha is on fire, and his really got the moves down. We have this totally awesome trick that I’m hoping wow’s our audience 🙂

As far as his strengths and weaknesses go, he learns incredibly fast, his extremely visual, and has such amazing work ethic. We do it till is right, and I love that because I’m the same way.

His weakness will be speed through his movement.. Not his feet!!! But things like turning with me in frame, there is so much of him to move (His 6ft4!!) that sometimes his behind the beat a little, but we work on it every day and his improving in leaps and bounds.

The other thing for us as a couple is our height difference.. His 6ft 4 and I’m 5ft 4, we have to sacrifice his line a little bit when we are dancing in frame for our standard dances. I can only reach so high!! But I’m hoping the judges and our audience understand that.

One last question: any color hint on your first costumes (you know we had to ask you on this, right? Lol)?

Think precious metal 😉 omg this costume btw.. I’m so nervous about, not for him, for me!! It’s a little crazy and I think I had too much coffee when I came up with it lol, and totally underestimated how errm… Unforgiving it will be. Believe it or not we sometime get self conscious about these costumes we wear, and this is totally one of those weeks!! Lol.

Lastly, lots of hugs and good luck! Go Get ’em!!!xxx

YAY!!! Love you guys, please vote vote vote and let’s talk again soon.

Executive Producer Conrad Green Talks On The Changes For Dancing With The Stars Season 17

TV Guide has a new article up with Conrad Green, the Executive Producer for Dancing With The Stars, talking about this season’s changes. He tells fans not to fret. The show will be slightly different, but, it will still be the same show everyone loves. He also talks of the elimination, set changes, and more. Below are some highlights which all sound good in my opinion. What do you think?

But longtime fans shouldn’t fret, in spite of all the modifications. “There will be changes. It will feel slightly different as a show to watch, but it will feel absolutely packed with incident and excitement,” Green says. “Essentially, at core, it’s going to be the show everyone knows and loves.”

Each episode will open with a “massive dance number” and end with a pair being eliminated, with the exception of the premiere. “It’ll probably make it a lot more nerve-wracking for people’s performances,” Green admits of the same-night elimination strategy. “But I think the benefit of that is, for an audience, the story keeps on moving.” Another benefit? An extra day of rest “will probably make a huge difference in terms of people’s sanity and hopefully will make the quality of dancing better,” according to Green.

Other revisions include a new set design. Gone is the skybox; instead, the celebrity and dancer seating area will be situated on the floor near the judges’ table — which will also be shifted to the opposite side of the ballroom. The show is also adding a makeup room and a rehearsal room, where co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet will chat with the contestants before and after their performances, while Tom Bergeron will run the show from the main stage. “Brooke will be moving a lot more around different parts of the studio, to get sort of a bit more of what’s going on behind the scenes on the show,” Green explains. “So, we’re hoping the show will be more fluid and a bit less sort of predictable.”

PureDWTS17 Media Round-Up One More Day And Counting (New Pics, Odds And Ends)

Hey, just a little “studio parking lot” picture heads up!! Be sure you see the Daily Mail first thing. They posted new photos of the cast of Dancing With The Stars Season 17 arriving and leaving rehearsals yesterday some of which include Derek Hough, Amber Riley, Cheryl Burke, Jack Osbourne, Peta Murgatroyd, Leah Remini, Valerie Harper, Tristan MacManus, Brant Daughtery, Bill Nye, and Emma Slater!!! Zimbio Pictures has a slew of new pictures as well such as these two pics below of Elizabeth Berkley and Peta Murgatoyd.

The Daily Mail also has some fun coverage of Snooki celebrating her son’s first birthday. Baby Lorenzo is adorable to say the least.

There is also a little piece at USA Today of Leah Remini commenting on Dancing With The Stars and how it’s helped her after her split with the Church of Scientology.

The difficulty of breaking with the church helped her to come onto the celebrity ballroom dance show, which Remini says she has turned down repeatedly in the past.

“Considering what I have been through this year, I figured that I am really at a vulnerable place in my life,” says Remini. “But I want to come from a place of strength. And it scares me do this. I want to go into it having fun. I want people to be inspired.”

Right now she is inspired to take on the rigors of the ballroom dance show.

“I think when people come out of something, and go into something new, it’s so invigorating,” says Remini. “And the amount of love and support you get for doing something, that might inspire other people during a difficult time.”

I wish there was some new pics and more interviews with Sharna and Keyshawn Johnson? 🙁 Though, if you go to this link, you can see a video of Keyshawn practicing a few dance moves during a 710 radio break. Also, below is Keyshawn Johnson with a “Mirror Ball Salute”! Sharna tweeted it saying, “Salute to that MBT!! #dwts So beyond proud of @thromedamnball & can’t wait for y’all to see him kill the cha cha this Monday on @dancingabc!!”

And that makes this post a wrap for now. One more day and counting, All! Not long to go now! xxx

Where’s the Dancing with the Stars Results Show?

The following is a guest post by Lois A Troutman.

Folks, I am eagerly awaiting DANCING WITH THE STARS! My stomach is tied in knots waiting for Monday night! Can ya please get here already! Typical of me before the season starts. Waiting for the show is like waiting in a doctor’s waiting room. Sometimes we wait and wait and wait………….. Oh pshaw, you get my drift!

I am having butterflies fluttering around in my stomach waiting. And, I say where is my results show? I was none too happy when ABC announced they had eliminated the Tuesday night show. I got much pleasure from having two nights out of the week to watch dancing. I want to see more dancing, not less.

How can they possibly fit everything in two hours? Something has to be sacrificed. There has to be less attention paid to the sparkling, spectacular pro dances. I suppose one good thing might be the elimination of the musical guests. But I was very happy to see those performers that I favored perform on results shows. Yes, the show had a lot of “filler” but at least I had another night of the show I love so much.

I hope ABC at least has a two night finale this season. And goes back to two nights in Season 18. I suppose though that the suspense of elimination won’t take as long because there won’t be enough time in the two hours to play the “elimination game.”

I will just have to get used to one night, grin and bear it. Light bulb just goes off in my head! I can watch Monday night’s show on Tuesday night! There ya go, by jove I have found a solution! I can still have my two nights of dancing! Glory be!

So, folks out in DANCING WITH THE STARS land, are you:

A. Going to bleed mirror balls if you don’t have a results show?
B. Reserve judgment until the season is in full swing, seeing how only two hours shakes out?
C. You are breathing a sigh of relief that you don’t have to sit through a results show?
D. You are taking the middle out of the dance floor because you don’t care one way or the other.

Cobin Blue Talks With People About Karina Smirnoff, DWTS Rehearsals, And More (Pics, Video)

KarinaSmirnoffCorbinBlue

Corbon Blue tells People.com that he has “THE best partner” for Dancing With The Stars in Karina Smirnoff. Though practice hasn’t always been a bed of roses. The first week was “mayhem” and he hurt his thumb. Karina was hurt some too, but, she is a “whip cracker”. lol. Below is a take from the article, but, be sure to read more and watch a fun video at People.com. Picture above courtesy of Zimbio Pictures where you can see more.

“The first day my thumb kinda popped in and out of its socket and it was swollen,” Bleu tells PEOPLE. “And her back is all scraped up from me dragging her on the floor on a move.”

Bleu says that Smirnoff “is quite the whip-cracker” and that the pair have a team nickname that reflects how hard they’re been working.

“We’ve decided that our team middle name is gonna be ‘One more time,’ ” he says. “Because every single time we finish [the routine], one of us says, ‘No, no, no, one more time!’ ”

Bleu admits that he needs the extra practice, because even though he’s had dance training, ballroom is new to him.

“Karina was really excited when I first came in. She wanted to test me out with a bit of a quick step, and she was kind of assuming, ‘oh, he dances, he’ll be fine,’ ” he says. “And we were wrong. She said, ‘we have some work to do.’ “

I have a feeling I am going to love love these two!!
