Val Chmerkovskiy Writes On New Dance For DWTS Week 3, Wants Maks For A Guest Judge
Val Chmerkovskiy has written a new blog for Today! He congratulates Derek Hough for his Emmy win. He also writes of he and Elizabeth’s new dance tonight. Though also check out how he plugs Maks as a guest judge. Interesting read and be sure to read more at the link. Let us know what you think? I have to admit, I wouldn’t mind seeing this happen as long as Maks was fair and as long as it was only a one time thing. Thanks to Lori for the heads up.
I just feel that it would be cool to have my brother there as well. I would love to see Maks as a guest judge somewhere along the season. I think in general, he would be a great judge on the show, period. But every time that thought came up, the righteousness in me always said, “You know that’s never going to happen! I’m still on the show and the whole $#&^% cast is going to complain!”
My brother said to me that that was definitely a conversation that was had, and that it was something he would be very, very interested in doing. If the right people sit down and come up with the right plan and a common language, I think it could work out incredibly for the show.
I wish that we could get my brother there eventually, but not as my brother, but as Maks, somebody who would be an incredibly professional judge, a very refreshing voice, and a pretty cool, pretty fresh perspective. But Julianne! Very excited!
I like our judges. I really have nothing against them. They do a great job, period! But it’s been seven years. I think just like we’re changing dancers and certain stuff around obviously, but they stuck around because they invested themselves over time. The point is that dances don’t change. And when dances don’t change, comments are inevitably going to repeat themselves because, c’mon, it’s the same dances for 16 seasons. You’re bound to have some repetition and some monotony.
So personally I feel like it would be refreshing to just hear what somebody else thinks about the samba! Not because I don’t respect the opinion that I’m hearing, but it’s just a different energy.
By the way, congratulations to Derek on his Emmy win. It was very inspiring to see that happen. First of all, it’s very, very well deserved and earned, but also it opened the window for all of us, everybody on “Dancing With the Stars,” to finally be looked at and recognized. Derek is obviously one of a kind, but he’s a representation of all of us, and we’re all very proud of him.
Monday is Hollywood Night on “Dancing With the Stars.” Elizabeth and I are doing the foxtrot. I’m looking forward to it because I feel Elizabeth will really gel with the genre. It’s something she’s more comfortable with — there’s a lot of acting. Even though we’re obviously going to turn it up a notch, it’s going to be focused around the traditional foxtrot. I’m excited!
While I agree with Val’s comments on the judges in generel, I don’t think Maks should be a judge on the show. I don’t think any of the former DWTS pros should be put in that position.
Of course Val would want Maks as a guest judge… but I can’t see Maks ever judging fairly, he seems like a “hold a grudge” type of person.
Maks gets pissed off at the littlest comments the judges say about Val’s partners dancing .. Wouldn’t really like to see him judging… No past pro’s should judge. Period. Even though I don’t think Julianne will be all that bad or “unfair”
I’ve got to admit to having to read his blog more than twice, because I couldn’t really quite grasp exactly what he was saying! And I still don’t!
He’s definitely got a very different “edge” than Maks, and it seems like he’s trying to find HIS spot on the show, outside of being “Maks Little Brother!” And make it known that he’s not the “badboy” of the ballroom???
I know that all of the pros are friends/friendly outside of DWTS, but it almost felt to me like he was trying to cover his tracks, not to offend anyone… Or at least not to offend Julianne in case she decides to take it out on him (not that she would do that, especially as Val pointed out she is very fair…) Just my take.
I’ll keep reading!
I think Maks would make a fantastic judge on the show & would do it fairly just I know that when Julianne comes in as guest she will too.
He would have to judge not just his brother and close friend but also at least 3 women that he had relationships with. So, please NO.
LOL, all it takes is a Chmerkovskiy comment, and the quiet that some were commenting on, is gone. Now there’s something to argue about. 🙂 Leave it to the Ukrainian mob to keep stuff interesting. 🙂
I do think Maks would judge fairly and would be good being on once like Julianne. I enjoy the idea of having a rotating judge of somebody who has been on in the past as they can be technical but at the same time understand the hard work that was put into the piece.
I don’t think the show is ready for Maks yet though because of how recently he has appeared on DWTS. With Julianne we know there is no chance of her coming back as this is her 9th season not being a pro. This is only the 2nd season in a row of Maks not being a pro and before the season began we were actually wondering if he might be back. I think it’s a little too closely removed to the show for him to hit this point. Down the line though, I can see him fitting into this position.
IMO, As long as Maks is under contract with DWTS as a pro, he should not be judging any contestants on it. That goes for whether he has a partner on that season or not! Just wouldn’t be right IMO!!! I feel that way about any pro-tbh
As far as Maks being fair, oh I won’t even touch that one-LOL
I think having Julianne and Maks and other occasional guest judges would freshen up the judging panel a bit. I can see Val’s point about same dances + same Judges = same comments. I think that Julianne and Maks both would bend over backwards to be fair in their comments and scoring. They also have different viewpoints than the current judges because they have been actual pros on the show.
Didn’t Maks say dwts is the worst show ever? So,,,,,, Why?
Re Maks as a judge, Val wrote: “If the right people sit down and come up with the right plan and a common language, I think it could work out incredibly for the show”
What does this mean? Common language????
If anyone can interpret this for me, I’d greatly appreciate your thoughts.
It would definitely be interesting to have Maks on. He could be a hot mess, making it all about him and all the wrongs he thinks he’s experienced or he could be an outspoken judge. Either way it would be entertaining.
Honestly guest judges always feel a bit odd to me. It’s hard for someone new to come in for a week or two, fit in, and be comfortable on the panel. I’m a bit worried Julianne might end up being just too nice and bland, but I don’t have a problem with former pros judging. It seems ballroom might be one big, incestuous family anyway, lol, so any ballroom judge is going to have lots of connections to the pros.
I found it strange that he only mentions Elizabeth in the last paragraph of the article, and very briefly… To me, he doesn’t look ou sound very excited for this season. Maybe I am wrong, but that’s how it looks to me. And I feel bad for Elizabeth, because you can see she’s really trying her best and she’s very hard on herself… So I hope he will show a bit more excitement!
I don’t support the idea of having Maks judge, just like I don’t like that Julianne will be judging: it’s a conflict of interests. But I think maybe Julianne can be neutral, I don’t think Maks could do that. I would love to see other pros who are not participating this season or who have been eliminated already (Chelsie, Anna, Sharna, Louis…)on the panel, but who I would REALLY love seeing as a guest judge is Shirley Ballas. Even though she’s Mark’s mother I don’t think there would be a conflict because she’s trained most of the other pros at some point. I’ve seen her on afterbuzz tv, they do a show every week talking about DWTS and she was very honest, neutral and raised important points. Shirley would be a great addition to the show!
#Woodrose, The quote you posted speaks volumes. Regardless of what is meant by a common language, the point is that for Maks to come on as a judge, there’s got to be a whole big production about it. Remember, this is Maks “I am the show” Chmerkovskiy. I also think that it would have been better for Val to wait, maybe until after Julianne judges, and says it seems like such a good idea, what about Maks? Instead it looks (to me) very like a tit-for-tat situation: since the Houghs were getting one, the Chmerkovskiy’s have to get one. I would not trust Maks to be unbiased. At all. I’m not sure it would even be intentional. IMO, it’s just who he is.
Common language, a sit down… as in producers begging Maksim to be on the show ( which he supposedly hates, the worst show ever) and offer him a large sum of money to do so. Yes, Val… we see what you mean. It’s only a guest spot as a judge, it doesn’t take all that.
I hope they do side by side challenge wk this season so we can see Maks back, and because Anna probably can’t dance ,i think she should judge.Of course she’s my favorite female pro,but I do think she would be unbiased.
Slaps head…Of course! MONEY is the “common language” of Hollywood (and most of the world).
Tee-hee. Once again, it’s clear why I’m not rich. I don’t even understand the lingo of demanding big bucks!
Thanks to #sheridan and #Susan for the replies.
Gotta say,
Very nice compliment to Derek… Yes he was so deserving of the Emmy for his consistently amazing choreography on DWTS and I’m overjoyed that he finally won it. There’s something different about him now too-IMO. He has an aura of success/posivity about him. Its a beautiful thing. Nice to see him recognized by his peers for his excellence and contributions to DWTS.
Val’s right, through Derek’s win, that door has finally been opened for the other pro/choreographers of the show to not only be recognized but awarded for their amazing work on DWTs.
Bravo, Derek!!
I agree with Alicia in that it would be very uncomfortable to have Maks judging when he’s slept with at least two of the pros.
I also don’t think any of the former pros should be judging their former colleagues.
I don’t fault Val for wanting his sibling to be a guest judge, especially since Julianne gets to do it. It kind of goes with the territory of family bond. But no way do I think a former pro who has never won the mirror ball, should judge.
I would still love to see Shirley Ballas as a judge. They all respect her and she tells it like it is.
I totally agree with Val that Derek’s win opened doors for all the pros on DWTS to be recognized for their hard work and that Derek represents all of them on the show.
I hope that Derek’s win will inspire all the pros to come up with killer choreo at one time or another this season, whether with their celeb partner, for opening numbers, or special numbers when there will be more time on the show. The opening and bumper numbers are very good this season.
I’m still not sure about Julianne coming in as guest judge. I hope things will turn out well.
