Afterbuzz Reviews DWTS With Sharna Burgess, Arsenio Hall Interviews Keyshawn Johnson
Afterbuzz reviewed Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 3. This time Sharna Burgess and Anna Trebunskaya join them. It’s so great to see Sharna again!! She talks more of her teaching Keyshawn Johnson to dance and their elimination. She also says she’ll still be dancing on the show this season for the opening numbers. Lots more below including a break down on Monday’s show. See if you agree with all of their assessments…
And speaking of Sharna, Keyshawn Johnson was a surprise guest on The Arsenio Hall Show last night during a segment when they were talking on the football players who have done Dancing With The Stars. He talks of how nerve wrecking Dancing With The Stars was performing LIVE, but, it was a great experience.
They should have Sharna on afterbuzz every week for the rest of the season shes really interesting, insightful. I liked towards the end on how she was wandering who would make it to the finale the journey or dancing. It seems like a lot of people think Corbin has it in the bag but I think his dance background could come back to bite him in the butt and the winner could be someone who as Sharna says went on a true dwts journey, no dance experince, learning how to to put one foot in front of the other, took baby steps.
Sharna is the total package — smart, funny, well-spoken, warm, and gorgeous! I love her insight into the show and into dancing in general.
I know her comment about the “true” DWTS journey will resonate with a lot of people. Sharna’s an honest person and I’m sure she’s speaking from the heart. However, I wonder if she will see things from a different perspective once she’s had a partner with previous dance experience? Right now she has only one point of reference.
I feel there is no one true DWTS journey and celebs with previous dance experience also have a valid journey on the show. It’s a different journey with different challenges, different points of frustration and different insecurities. Unfortunately, we’ve stigmatized many of these celebs with the label “ringer” and once they’ve been labelled, a lot of viewers only see the label and not the individual.
Great show with Sharna! 🙂
Yes, I agree Cidra, imo there is no one true dwts journey. I like the variety.
Also, I very much like to hear what Sharna has to say on afterbuzz, but I also very much like to hear from others.
No denying she’s stunningly beautiful, extremely creative, and seems to be a very nice, real person.
Cidra you hit it right on the head! Most ringers are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Look at the comments here regarding Corbin…very few people are giving him the benefit of the doubt.
I’m quite sure Sharna would be singing a different tune if she had someone with dance experience. Most of the pros change their tune depending on their partner. Only a select few (Derek, Karina…maybe even Val) emphasize the journey/experience for their partner whether she/he’s a ringer or not.
I think Sharna is wonderful…but there are moments where her limited experience as a teaching pro on the show makes me give her the side eye when it comes to her many opinions on things. I know I’m in the minority on that one…lol.
les227, I wasn’t implying that Sharna was being disingenuous and would automatically change her mind if she had a celeb with previous dance experience. It’s entirely possible that her opinion would not change. I was just suggesting that in this case she might not yet have enough personal experience to come to a fully informed opinion.
I do agree that celebs labelled “ringers” are often pre-judged and can have a harder time winning the hearts and minds of viewers.
Cidra…my comment was poorly constructed, lol. I wrote thoughts as they were popping in my head. Usually I rearrange sentences for the sake of clarity, but I didn’t do that yesterday. I didn’t really specify WHERE I thought you hit the nail on the head…haha. I was referring to the part about ringers. The rest was just my opinion. Note, I mentioned her lack of experience as well…
However, I completely agree with everything you said above! 🙂
It’s all good Les! 😛
I hope Sharna has many more opportunities to partner all different kinds of celebs. I love that she’s not shy about expressing her opinions. She’s an all-arounder (great dancer, strong but compassionate teacher, and creative choreographer). Exactly the kind of pro I like to see on the show. The show needs to nurture her (and Emma).
Even though Corbin has background in hip-hop, I still think Elizabeth is the “ringer” this season. She just needs to learn choreography each week. Her ballet and other dance training gives her the fluidity, grace, lines, and needed. Where she’s lacking is in the chemistry with her partner department and she lacks a connection the the audience. Corbin reminds of JR Martinez for some reason. I guess it’s the enthusiasm he has to learn and perform the routines and his chemistry and friendship with Karina, where they can work hard together, but laugh and enjoy themselves at the same time. Both Corbin & JR are hard on themselves to push towards being as perfect as they can be. Both have big hearts and their girlfriends have a big influence in their lives.
I also agree about the Sharna comment that once she’s on long enough to get a popular celeb with some type of dance experience…a different tune will be sung….just like Val (:
