DWTS Season 17, Week 4 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??
Well, I don’t really understand the need to be so secretive about the dance order, and if they continue to play it this way I’m not sure what point there is to this post. Why are they doing it? I dunno – I think sites like this one actually make people more interested in DWTS and that they should be thanking us. Arrogant? Maybe…but definitely factual. And really, don’t they need all the fans they can get? They’re losing me little by little – I think they need to try harder. If there is nothing to talk about, why watch?
That said – none of them have even mentioned camera blocking. At all. It’s very strange. But when you see the picture below, it’s clear they did it today. So much for wanting to engage people via social media.

I agree Heidi! Why so secretive about the dance order? It helps to promote the show? It seems they’ve cut back on so much (rehearsal interviews, etc) that soon they are going to kill this show for good if this keeps up? 🙁
Having this site and all the knowledge that goes with it, has truly made me MORE of a fan of the show.
It’s funny you mentioned that Vogue, I was just thinking the same thing this weekend. I have to be honest, my excitement for this season is dwindling fast…. And if Bill and Emma go this week, I am not even sure if I am watching the show. My only other favorites are Amber and Corbin, and I am quickly losing interest in Corbin.
I agree Sandy! I mean…they use to put out confessionals every week. They had new commercials. They use to put out a new poster every season and the list goes on. Sad. It’s hard to be excited if they aren’t?
The one couple the producers may find expendable this season is the only couple that is keeping me tuned in… and it’s only Week 4. Sad!
There’s no point to all of the secrecy. I too miss the confessionals, and like Sandy, having this site to go to has made me not only a bigger fan of the show, but has given me some knowledge of ballroom dancing. All of you that keep up this site are great, and everything you do is well appreciated by many!
Hopefully TPTB are learning that Bill is the one to keep around. People are excited about him and want him to stay. Not like Elizabeth, Christina and Leah who, from what I’ve been reading, people find extremely boring and wouldn’t be upset if any of them left. Let’s hope Emma comes up with something great, he nails his dance, and people vote for him. I know he will be getting some of my votes.
I’ll keep watching since I love ‘dancing’ in general, but, I just wish they wouldn’t cut back so much. I hate to see this show tank because of so much cutbacks in promo, etc. If they keep this up, producers will only have themselves to blame.
And Cindy and Sandy, we appreciate all of you so much too. Thank you for all of your kind comments!xx
I really miss the confessionals too. If they don’t have time to show them during the show, they could always be extras on the website, right?
As far as the point of this post – I like having all the names and voting numbers handy, along with the dances that they’re doing, so thank you!
As far as dance order, maybe they’re quiet because it’s not entirely set yet? If I remember correctly, Bill & Emma were on the road, and wouldn’t be able to do camera blocking until today – so maybe they’ll start putting it out there once it’s finalized?
Salsa for Brant? Anyone want to bet Peta put together a “super sexy” salsa that’s nothing but bumping and grinding that Carrie Ann and Bruno will love? And will give him inflated scores again? I’m so over him.
I agree that fan sites help create, stir up, prolong buzz that’s helpful to the show. I wonder as Butterflywhirl mentioned, maybe they’re just having a hard time finalizing dance order so far this season with “is he or isn’t he dancing”…but especially with the travel schedule that makes some camera blocking happen on Monday. And maybe they haven’t yet figured out how their changes, with big opening numbers and results at the end affect how they want to order people to maximize viewership.
Here are my pre-show scoring predictions
Elizabeth/Val- “Argentine Tango” 27 or 28 (This is her chance to break from the pack and deliver a memorable dance)
Amber/Derek “Tango”- 26 (I think her bum knee can either help or hurt her)
Corbin/Karina “Paso Doble” 25
Christina/Mark “Foxtrot” 25
Brant/Peta- “Salsa” 25 (I can definitely see the judges going bananas for him, imo I just don’t see it with him.
Jack/Cheryl “Quickstep”- 25
Snooki/Sasha “Jive” (I’m really not sure on how this would go. This could either be really fun and exciting or a hot mess. I’m hoping for an exciting routine). 24
Bill/Emma “Samba” 23
Valerie & Tristan “Viennese Waltz” 23
Leah/Tony “Cha-Cha” 23
Maybe some of the pros are unavailable for camera blocking:

Yes.. My house was on fire. I am now homeless #greatnewstocomehometo Thank god no one got hurt. Half the building burned down
Glad he’s okay.
Oh C! Good idea. I’ll play too:
Elizabeth/Val- “Argentine Tango” 28
Amber/Derek “Tango”- 26 (her knee might hold them back a little?)
Corbin/Karina “Paso Doble” 27 or 28
Christina/Mark “Foxtrot” 26
Brant/Peta- “Salsa” 24
Jack/Cheryl “Quickstep”- 23
Snooki/Sasha “Jive” 24
Bill/Emma “Samba” 23 or 24
Valerie & Tristan “Viennese Waltz” 23 or 24
Leah/Tony “Cha-Cha” 20 or 21 (if the judges keep it real)
Even during the show it’s very confusing this season of what order they are going on. I think if they are secretive, then people will want to watch the whole show? But there’s no evidence that they get higher ratings at certain times. Everyone should urge abc to move the show away from the voice — which is a direct result of it losing some viewers. Without the voice, it’s ratings are at least 25 percent higher
The confessionals happened with the results show which are gone– but abc said it might bring it back. I wish Brooke would interview them after the dance and scores since she used to do it before the scores.
I actually thought maybe I had missed one of your posts or something, but now I see that we just don’t have the dance order finalized yet, just hours before the live show airs tonight. I also didn’t realize that they haven’t put any interview packages together this season and again I thought maybe I had just missed something. This really is a very lean season, and I agree with those who say it is putting a damper on the enthusiasm we fans have for the show. I am thankful for this site, and I agree that it is an asset to the show to have a fan site which engages us in conversation about the show. I have friends who do not follow this site regularly or have a Twitter account, but when I pass along info to them that you have posted or tweeted, they are happy to hear about what’s going on.
I agree with Jake: I never thought I’d miss Brooke (sorry, Brooke!), but I too miss the brief interviews she conducted with each couple after their performance and right before they received their scores. Those interviews gave us some of the funniest and most genuine comments from the couples. I also have to say that the scaled-down compressed show gives Tom less of a chance to shine doing what he does best — those off-the-cuff throwaway lines riffing on whatever comes up at the moment. They have a comedy genius for a co-host, but he has to fight to have a word or two of forced banter with each couple after their dances. The whole show is out of sync and has lost its rhythm this season.
Oh. I wanna play too! Hahaha. My guesses are:
Elizabeth: 28 or 29
Corbin: 27-28
Christina: 26-27
Brant: 26
Leah: 25 (bet they’ll gush about how “sexy” it is and how much she is improving. Woop de doooo -.-)
Snooki: 24-25 (Think she might have some trouble with this one. Hope I am wrong though!)
Amber: 24-25
Jack: 24-25
Bill: 21-22
Valerie: 20-21
Brant and Peta will be dancing 3rd. Finally we’re finding some stuff out!
Arrogance is right, PH! As others have already said, TPTB are shooting themselves in the foot with all this secrecy. Haven’t they heard the old adage “out of sight, out of mind?”
If they’re so worried about losing viewers to The Voice, they ought to be putting on a social media and on-air advertising blitz with tons of teasers.
Jack and Cheryl will be going 1st!
TPTB sure seem to be pampering Valerie. You would think we would at least know what she is dancing tonight.
It’s almost as if they have given up and just letting The Voice out do them. And after seeing those silly couches…..
I’ll watch the show as long as Karina is on it because I love to see her dance but, like others, I really miss the confessionals.
Just saw that Corbin & Karina had music issues again.
I also miss confessionals.
I appreciate this site for the great insightful articles and intelligent conversation. Great job!
I’m wondering about front runners Amber & Derek doing the old Tango and Elizabeth & Val doing the flashier Argentine Tango on the same night. Is that odd? And what does it say about possible BTS machinations?
OMG! Another Shirtless alert… DWTSGossip says Corbin will be shirtless tonight as well. Yuck! Two in one night.
I don’t know what happened but my Corbin Love is falling by the wayside. I hope I get it back.
@Sandy Taking off your shirt in the Paso isn’t that uncommon though
Actually it’s Corbin and AH that’s reporting that Corbin is going shirtless, but, I know what you mean: https://www.puredwts.com/2013/10/07/dwts-corbin-bleu-on-the-paso-doble-the-gloves-come-off-and-i-get-to-be-raw-intense-and-fiery/
Honestly, the guys going shirtless on DWTS doesn’t bother me in the least if they are attractive without their shirts! Look at the women’s costumes. They not only put a lot on display, they add rhinestones, feathers, sequins, fringe and the like to try and make sure you can’t take your eyes off strategic moves and areas of their bodies. It’s a valid part of the game.
The thing is…go shirtless or whatever, but, why go on about it? It looks desperate when they have to brag about it and it’s not what we look at and how we vote. We just want to see good dancing.
In the same vein as what Vogue said, I’m not so much bothered by the shirtlessness itself, but rather the motivations for it – is it a desperate ploy because the choreography ain’t all that great? Is it an attempt to make the dance seem more exciting than it really is? And yeah, I’m not wild about the ones doing it bragging about it – if the most interesting part of your dance is that you’re shirtless, you gots probrems 😛 But I get the impression that Corbin maybe just threw that in at the end to add some excitement to an otherwise “meh” blog post. It was one sentence at the end, rather than a long and drawn out “pimping” of the shirtlessness – which is something more like what happened in the season 14 team dances, when a few members of Team Paso (Maks & Cheryl) insisted that the men on the team dance sans shirt, while some others on the team (namely William & Donald) didn’t see how it would enhance the dance. All we heard about all week was how the men were going to be shirtless and how the “hotness” was going to win them the team dance. Surprise surprise, the dance was a bit of a dud – and they lost. The lesson? Don’t rely on shirtlessness alone to carry you. If you’ve got a good dance and the shirtlessness enhances it? Great. If it doesn’t? Work harder to make the dance itself better and forget about doffing your shirt.
Ah, yes, I can see where broadcasting to fans the fact that you’ll remove your shirt ahead of time can seem like a desperate bid for attention. But it could also be looked as as advertising, giving fans what they want and drumming up votes, something all contestants are encouraged to do. Aren’t they?
I’m so sick of the shirtless stuff as well, mostly because I get the impression the show thinks the women who are watching are a bunch of hormonal idiots tuning in to see Magic Mike rather than entertaining dancing. If it fits with a dance occasionally fine, but I hate when the show or pros go on an and about it like that is what we tune in to see.
I can’t help but think of Brant as this season’s William. Someone the show sexes up and pushes to the finals. I’m a bit surprised they don’t have him dancing later.
I worry that Jack might be the most disposable one for the show right now. I know we are hoping they didn’t inflate his scores last week because he didn’t need it but I’m wondering if the show just doesn’t care about him, now that Bill might be the popular average dancer/great guy. I don’t like that he’s going first.
I am getting the vibe Corbin might be the Apolo of this season…great dancer that the show ignores, while Karina stresses out trying to make even more difficult routines to get the judge’s attention. I’ll be interested to see how things play out with him tonight score wise and if he ends up in the fake bottom three.
Personally I think ‘bottom three’ is sometimes used to rile up voters and other times used to undercut people, so I look forward to the drama at the end.
No, actually, the actual removal of the shirt would be what would (theoretically) drum up votes, not the prattling on about it.
I’m with Courtney. I don’t mind shirt removal when the dance calls for it (and some do), it’s when you use that because you have nothing else that it bugs me. And boy, did I laugh my ass off at the William/Donald/Maks team who were so convinced they were going to win because they had “hot men” on their team. Yeah, you got your ass handed to you (again) by the “boys” with the choreography skills. The boys I happen to find more attractive than any of your asses. 😀
ABC has already canceled one of the Tuesday night shows. Wonder if they’re rethinking the lack of a results show on Tuesday nights already?
@KarenT – I agree Jack may be in trouble even possibly this week. I am thinking that Bill and Emma may have racked up a ton of votes last week, whereas Jack was quite forgettable.
Shirtless in moderation when needed is kind of okay, but the gloating and overuse of it is pathetic. And actually I never vote for a couple that misused the shirtless act. Sounds selfish, but that’s how I roll.
I think there are moments for when it’s appropriate for the shirt to come off. If you go back to season 15, Gilles had his shirt off for the majority of his dances while Apolo only took it off for the Paso because Karina’s choreography seemed appropriate for him to do so.
If Corbin’s shirt was off every single dance then it would be a bit annoying but who knows. The paso is very common for men to take off their shirt (or at least the jacket is unbuttoned/open) so I’m not going to say anything about Corbin until I see the dance
But I will say one thing, he talks about going to the gym every single week. We get it Corbin.
The whole shirtless thing seems to have gotten out of control the last few seasons. There was a time when you occasionally saw a male pro or celeb bare his chest for Paso or Rumba. It was interesting and a bit exciting because it was unusual. Now, it’s practically mandatory. I like to see a good-looking guy without a shirt as much as the next red-blooded woman, but it’s just getting boring.
I agree, how the guy handles the shirtlessness determines whether I say “fine” or “ugh”. Derek danced shirtless a couple times last season. However, I noticed that he usually tries to have a shirt on before the dance, takes it off to perform, and then the shirt goes back on. So he’s not strutting around shirtless for 2 hours or doing post-show interviews without a shirt.
After having to see Val and “little Val” in his speedos during that silly Surfer Flamingo, looking at a bare chest here and there is nothing.
However, I do find it kind of insulting that whoever instigates the bare male chests, be it the contestant, pro or TPTB, thinks so little of their audiences intelligence. Do they think we will start to hyperventilate as we race week-kneed toward the nearest phone to pant in our vote?
I like eye candy as much as the next lady, but it surely doesn’t make me more inclined to vote for the couple.
Again with the hodgepodge of dance styles. This week everyone is doing a different dance. I really don’t like it. The show loses a bit of it’s cohesiveness. And of course we can’t compare and contrast the dances.
Since I don’t see it listed I would guess that Valerie and Tristan have a Waltz.
@susan2 – I like to think those that frequent PureDWTS are more intelligent and more sophisticated than the average viewer – hence, we may not be swayed by shirtlessness, but desperate housewife Susie Homemaker from Youngstown, OH, who only watches the show casually, may be floored by it. I see all sorts of gushing over hotness in the silly ass tweets to @DancingABC that get posted on the air – things to the tune of “ZOMG DID YOU SEE WILLIAM’S ASS!!!! HE’S TOTES GETTING ALL MY VOTES THIS WEEK!!!!!! #pointlesshashtag #pointlesshashtag” that make me wonder if the majority of viewers are, to some degree, brainless sheeple 😛
I can’t seem to get worked up one way or the other re shirts right now but Court’s take on tweets:“ZOMG DID YOU SEE WILLIAM’S ASS!!!! HE’S TOTES GETTING ALL MY VOTES THIS WEEK!!!!!! #pointlesshashtag #pointlesshashtag” has cracked me up.
I hadn’t realized until I read your post Susan2 that everyone has a different dance tonight because I had looked up only a few couples. I agree too. I like to see 2-3 couples doing the same dance to see the differences in the pros choreography and the stars skills directly head to head. I was particularly excited about where the differences would be between an Amber & Derek Tango and an Elizabeth & Val one. Only to realize I had anticipated the wrong treat and they are rather different styles/rules.
Snooki is dancing 7th!
Hehe…glad my cynicism about the tweets shared on the show gave you a laugh, jess 😛 I think one of our readers asked me once why none of the tweets from Pure writers ever make it on the air…and I told them a) we’re not famous, b) we’re usually cussing/being inappropriate/not politically correct, c) we aren’t kissing the show’s ass, d) I’ve harassed the @DancingABC account so many times that they probably have me on permanent mute.
Going shirtless when the dance calls for it is one thing. Going shirtless just to say, hey look at me, I’m not wearing a shirt (I’m talking to you Val and Peta’s past partners that she’s forced it on) turns me away.
And Corbin is starting to sound a little desperate to me. That and his over the top dances so far is making me think he won’t win this thing. Right now, I’m backing Bill, Snooki and Amber.
The shirt coming off thing is annoying when they go on tv and tell us I am going to show you my chest. Just do it in the show we really don’t care.
Has Snooki ever danced the first half of the show?
#47 Sandy. No, she hasn’t
“Has Snooki ever danced the first half of the show?”
Nope. Danced last week 1. Led off the 9pm hour week 2. Second to last last week. Her position this week is also right around the 9pm lead off.
They are heavily invested in her as she may be the only most talked about star left if Valerie goes tonight and with Bill Nye now out.
Maybe ABC some upcoming plans for her.
Bill was big news last week (to me, he is the only contestant that is saving this season as of now), I think Valerie has become somewhat of old news.
@Cindy – Myself, Corbin has managed to somehow lose his appeal already. I don’t know what happened but something turned me off
towards him.
@37 Jessica .. Glad I’m not the only one who noticed that hahaha. Corbin is by far one of the most boring Twitter people ever. He doesn’t talk about anything but working out or DWTS. I guess it’s good that he’s not venting out his everyday life on there, but still… Makes me wonder why I follow him. 😛
Not to sound like a broken record but I’m in the same boat as Corbin turning me off. I’m just not interested in him like I was at week 1 or even week 2. I don’t know if it’s the over the top of I’m not a trained ballroom dancer or the over top of seeming desperation. Who knows..
Heidi; I don’t think that is arrogant at all. This site generates interest in the show for me and a lot of others apparently. You guys cut thru a lot of the Bologna and give informed opinions on what is going on when we are scratching our heads. I can’t wait to read the articles.when I want to remember something about a past season I always come here first.Even though everyone has their favorite pros I feel that you all are fair in your assessments of the dances.I know some insist that you are biased about certain pros but I always feel those comments come from those who are jealous because their favorite pros are not doing so well.I have learned so much about what the dances are supposed to look like from reading Courtney’ s reviews.I feel in most cases I actually know when a dance is done properly.I have something kind of funny I want to say about Snooki. In season 11 When Mike S. was on she said in an interview “Mike should not have agreed to do dwts because it’s just a bunch of has beens” I wonder if she considers herself a has been now?
I like Bill just as much as the next person I do not think he is the only one saving this season. If so, we are in trouble-JMO
Having said that there are quite a few interesting contestants on this season. IMO I think the format has taken away from some of the excitement of DWTS..
Hoping Amber can deliver a great Tango tonight. I think she is one contestant that lights up the floor and draws the audience into her performance too.
Hope to see a great show tonight!!!
You all do an amazing job here at puredwts keeping the fans updated and excited about dwts, season after season.
It is truly appreciated. Thank you!!
BRAVO!!
I guess I should have said is Bill is not the only one saving the season for me. I do love him and Emma though and hope they go far in the competition.
Love his determination and Emma is adorable!!!
I still like Corbin, and of course I love Karina, however I’ll see after tonight’s dance whether he’s going to calm down and dance up to his potential or just be giant annoying spaz until the fed up viewers vote him off.
I really hope those two just relax, go with the flow and find their dance joy.
I hadn’t realized that Nicole has never danced in the first hour. Interesting.
I love Derek’s Standard Tangos. The lightening fast changes of direction and snappy footwork always impress me. He really works hard to get his partner’s frame looking top-notch as well.
It’s a good week for Amber to have a dance like the Tango where she can show a more intense, grown up and sensuous side.
I agree Dee, this site is what keeps me tuned into the show. I would stop watching it do to being bored. I love the insight that I find over here. Thank you puredwts for everything you do.
I also noticed that Nicole has never danced in the first hour…
…has Leah, Jack or Bill ever danced in the second hour? I know this is only week four, but my brain can’t seem to remember!
In regards to Corbin – I thought his note about going shirtless was a bit of an afterthought, or just something as an FYI. He didn’t seem to make a big deal out of it.
For me, overall I still like Corbin quite a bit. I think watching his interviews with OTRC and Access Hollywood keeps the likability factor going for me. However, he’s EXTREMELY corny/cheesy and that I find incredibly annoying. I think the combination of cheesy + confident + being a good dancer = turn off. Again, I still like him…I just cringe a lot. 🙂
So apparently Elizabeth and Val are second according to Lizzie Grubman. They have been early in the first hour three weeks in a row now… Hmmm.. I wonder.
LOL comment #44!! 😀
I will be watching the show until the end of the season as I always do. I have come to an early conclusion the I want Bill and Emma to win. I have fallen totally in love with them! I know, it is a long shot.
I sent some suggestions to ABC. Yes even as enthusiastic as I am about the show, I think they are monkeying around with format and things that didn’t need to be monkeyed with.
I think they need to move the show away from The V once for one thing. If ABC wants to gain some ratings back, move the show. You know I would like to have a results show. I hope they will get back to one for season 18. I just don’t think a two hour show is enough. Things need to be sacrificed. Such as are they having the couples dance two dances, are they having team dances, which I always love.
The dancing numbers are shorter this season aren’t they? It seems so. Things are so rushed. I kinda did like the suspense of elimination. And I loved the many pro dances they can no longer have.
I still watch the show for the entertainment value. I love the costumes and shirtless really doesn’t bother me. There is nothing I can do about that anyway, it is what it is. So I may as well enjoy it and love watching it that way.
I want the show for as many more seasons as we can get, hopefully to season 20 and beyond. I would terribly miss the show. I look forward to it twice a year. It gives me much pleasure, to write poems and the occasional guest column here.
I say
ROCK ON DANCING WITH THE STARS!
Does anyone know if there is a theme for tonight? Thank you!
Elizabeth is too tall for Val. She looks hunched overtop of him during their AT. I wonder if they will be called out on it.
Julianne knows Mark’s tendency to take the spotlight – and she’s not afraid to say something! Go Julianne!
It looks like Bill and Emma are performing last tonight!
Elizabeth needs to wear shorter heels. The extension of her lines etc. just look awkward. Their dance bored me to tears. Totally over scored for me.
Shirt or no shirt. Don’t care, doesn’t make me swoon. As many have said upstream, if that’s what you need for votes, then your pro needs to get a bit more creative. But then again, Peta thinks she is the “sex” barometer for the show. She ain’t.
Corbin–take off your vest and “elegantly” throw it to the side with the beat of the music. Do not take it off, bring it between your hands, roll it up in a ball and toss it. This IS NOT dorm room laundry basketball.
Overall, I’m still happy about Jack. He seems to have brought the old Cheryl back to the ballroom. More impressed with Snooki every week. Three cheers for Amber, or maybe Derek! Bill Engvall personifies what DWTS is. An untrained celeb having a blast.
Don’t you think as the dancing crowd gets smaller, we might see some elements return such as “Confessionals” and “Interviews”? Personally, I don’t miss Brook in the Celebraquarium. She’s much better in this format. And by the way, what’s different about her? Facelift? Eyelift? Hair color? Lost weight? Can’t put my finger on it.
YAY!!! I’m a Happy Girl 🙂
Yay bill and emma!!
So cool to see how happy Bill is that he and Emma are safe! I just *love* this couple!
I know Butterfly – And how awesome was it that Tom told them right after they got their scores.
Darn, I wanted Peta to go home. I mean Brant. Maybe next week.
I liked the dancing overall this week, but am I the only one who thought it was weird that the judges all gave the same number for each couple?? Makes me go “hmm.” But I’m probably reading too much into it haha.
Anyway, I loved Amber’s tango! I thought she did great, and I thought her footwork was a little sharper, which is good! I liked Corbin’s dance as well, but I wish he would appeal more to the audience :/
Sidenote: I think another person on here posted about this as well, but I was kind of surprised that Julianne snapped at Mark like that haha!! I thought it was very balls-y of her to make a jab at him…And I thought he looked pretty pissed off after that lol! Knowing how they danced together before though, I thought it was a little cold of her, but the woman does what she wants and I love her for it 🙂
