The Switch Up Dance Challenge – Between the picture below and the press release posted by Vogue which says it’s a marathon in “two rounds” – that could mean one of two things: that the first group of four does a marathon where the music/style changes in the middle, and whoever lasts the longest gets a 10 and it goes down from there. Then the second group does the same thing. OR, it could be that the four pairs dance as a team against the other team and the music changes once (hence the second round). But that latter option makes no sense. But the picture of them rehearsing together makes no sense either. So, I give up. I think it will be stupid either way.

The text with the picture tweeted by @DancingABC: “Monday, the couples will dance in two groups of four, to all different types of music in our Switch-Up Challenge!”

Dancing with the Stars Season 17, Week 5 – Dancing by the Numbers

Sorry for the delay this week, kids. Extremely busy at work to the point where it will be lucky if I move this weekend. Lots to talk about, so let’s get on with it…

The week of the not-so-shocking elimination. As I’ve said a few times, Courtney and I have been calling this elimination since nearly the start of the show. At first we said it would be either Elizabeth or Christina and then in the last week or three we’ve been thinking Christina, for a variety of reasons. My thinking was that they were both good dancers that weren’t connecting as much with the audience. In addition, they’re of a similar type: good body, good to really good dancer, pretty, not too old but not incredibly young, average to smallish fanbase.  The show can only support ONE of this type and I think we’ve seen that in the past.

  • Kristin and Chynna in Season 13, eliminated 3rd and 4th
  • Audrina and Brandy in Season 11, eliminated 6th and 9th
  • Sabrina and Mel B in Season 5, eliminated 6th and 11th

Of course there are other early eliminations where there isn’t a corresponding person who goes a bit farther, but we’re in another season where there are two women who fall into a similar category. If you look at everyone else on the show, they all fall into their own niche…although it could be argued that Brant and Corbin are in a group together, but this doesn’t seem to occur with men and all the shocking eliminations that most people remember are female.

Now the question is – is Elizabeth another Chynna, or another Brandy or Mel B?? It all depends on how freaked the judges are by losing Christina and they’ve already massively overscored people.  I mean, look at the scores this week in the table below – they’ve gone mad. It was week 5 most people had a 26 or higher? Are they insane?? Or are they trying to send Leah home and failed to protect Christina well enough?? Read more..

Las Vegas Odds For Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 6

Well, the Las Vegas Odds going into Week 6 of Dancing With The Stars Season 17 aren’t looking too different than last week. What’s disappointing though is that even after a great dance this past week, they continue to put Bill Engvall in last place with 100/1 odds, and yet, Leah is tied with Brant at 18/1 odds. Wha?? 😯 Below is more from Sports Bovada!!

Corbin Bleu 3/2
Amber Riley 7/2
Elizabeth Berkley 7/2
Jack Osbourne 14/1
Snooki 14/1
Brant Daugherty 18/1
Leah Remini 18/1
Bill Engvall 100/1

Below are last week’s odds:

Corbin Bleu 3/2
Amber Riley 7/2
Elizabeth Berkley 7/2
Christina Milan 8/1
Jack Osbourne 14/1
Snooki 14/1
Brant Daugherty 18/1
Leah Remini 18/1
Bill Engvall 100/1

My thoughts: Even though this is an overall forecast, I just hope this isn’t an indication of how things will play out next week? Bill has won over so many of our hearts from the beginning and he’s turned out to be a better dancer than many of us thought. I hope it’s Leah to go home next and that’s all I will say without sounding like I am on repeat. Oh yeah, and one more thing…. I think Elizabeth’s odds should be more in the 14/1 range.

Ok, let’s see what Heidi and Court think. Be sure to tell us what you think in comments as well.

Heidi: Well, it’s hard to say. When Christina was still in the competition, I said either she or Elizabeth were going to be the “shocking” elimination. Christina is now gone and it’s possible that Elizabeth could last longer because of that. Really hard to say. I think the top 2 are correct. After that? Well, I don’t think Bill is going home this week unless the seriously hose him on the scores. Leah, on the other hand, is clearly getting votes, because she beat a huge deficit and Christina went home instead of her. How huge? Numbers post is coming later. 🙂 I had late nights at work and didn’t feel like writing it until last night. Liz has been in jeopardy a couple times. Brant’s been in jeopardy at least once. These things are often predictive. I’m torn. It could really be between Bill, Leah, Brant and Snookie – who are the bottom four in ratings. So, I guess I agree with bottom four, but I’m not sure about the order.

Courtney: Not a whole lot to add that Heidi hasn’t already said – but I do worry that Snooki could be in some danger this week, due to the fact that it’s sounding like the east coast phone votes might get tossed as a result of Muppet idiocy. And while Leah may have gotten the votes to overcome Christina, I feel like some viewers might have jumped off the Leah bandwagon after her behavior this week – she seemed to rub a LOT of people the wrong way. Still think Bill has at least another week in him, but worry that the judges may start whittling out who they deem “the weaker dancers”, and may decide to hose him, Andy-style 🙁

Leah Remini On Dancing With The Stars: A Beautiful Experience And A Blessing

Leah Remini explained why she danced to Katy Perry’s “Roar” on the Arsenio Hall Show last night. She was inspired by her negative experience with Scientology, but, it could have been about other things too. She said, “The song spoke to me and about what I was going through in my life, but I really dedicated it to anybody who has been controlled or kept down. It could be a relationship; it could be anything.” Leah has also promised to quit saying she’s “not a dancer”. She then goes on to explain how much she’s learned from doing Dancing With The Stars, how it came at the right time in her life, and what a blessing it’s been (now this is the Leah I’d like to see more of!). More in detail below….
