DWTS Season 17, Week 8 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show!! (SPOILERS)

Well, in the first six minutes of the show, we have Cher singing to either a bad backing track or with a backing singer who is not good.

We have Cher who comes onto DWTS and brings her own dancers, with DWTS pros left to fill in.

We have Cher almost fall on her ass on the floor.

And one Cher costume change.

Then Corbin and Karina did a rather messy AT – lack of rehearsal time showed. It was so messy, but of course the judges rave.  He ends up with a 29 which is, IMO, acceptable for that dance. Bruno called it right.

Someone please get Jaymz off my TV. Thank you.

ETA: Come on!! Please tell me you’re not going to rave over a crappy V. Waltz!!  Dance number 2 and I’m pissed off.

Extra shitty camera work this week. Two big flubs and we’re only 20 minutes in.

ETA2: Are you kidding me? Leah beats Brant? In what universe?? I guess we need JLo in the audience for another week, eh?  Jack and Amber had the best dances of the night, Val was an idiot for vocalizing he wanted to pick Corbin or Amber, since Corbin wiped the floor with them.

So, Amber has immunity (which will hose her cumulative score, but whatever), Corbin beats Liz and Leah beats Brant.  Unless Bill pulls out a win, he is the most likely to be eliminated.  This show is so obvious sometimes.  I suppose it could be Liz or Brant – neither would surprise me.

ETA3: Got wrapped up in the comments and forgot to update to say that Brant was the one to go this week.  :::sigh::: There is no way Leah won that dance off. But she does bring JLo. I did get a sense of them getting real with her tonight. If not for Cher, she would have been tied with Bill after the individual round.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Tony Dovolani And Leah Remini Hopes Fans Will Like The Love Story They Tell Tonight

Tony Dovolani has written his new blog at In Touch Weekly (isn’t he a day earlier than the norm?). He writes that Leah has had an injury, but, she hasn’t been complaining. He also says Leah is “really into the competition right now and is over any doubts she’s had.”

Tonight we dance the Viennese waltz and are very excited about Cher being on the show. Leah’s really into the competition right now and is over any doubts she’s had and wants to go out there and challenge everyone. We’re also really curious looking to see how Cher judges. It will be a different energy. Cher has an Oscar, Emmy and Golden globes; the woman is a successful performer; from stage to movies and we want to know what she thinks of our story and presentation. Dance experience doesn’t really matter when you have someone like Cher judging as she has so many performing years experience and she comes from old Hollywood.

I believe she will do a great job. Sure it’s added pressure for the stars, and for us professionals there all kinds of emotions. I’ve been a fan of Cher’s for so long, so it’s a little nerve-racking and exciting at the same time. I think she is a true living icon and one of the last true stars left. I mean she has had hits in the last five decades; could you imagine being that relevant for that long? That just tells you she has ridiculous talent.

Leah’s injury has been a problem this week, as we are also preparing for another dance challenge. But she has been fighting through it and not complaining. I know she is in pain because I see her wincing at times, but I ask her if she’s okay and all she will say is “yes.” I love that about her because she’s not using it as an excuse and doesn’t want a sympathy vote. Her opinion is that she’s on a dance show and she made it to week eight, why would she want anyone to feel sorry for her? And we are almost at the homestretch with a slight light at the end of the tunnel.

More at In Touch Weekly. I think I will wait until tonight to see if she does any complaining and judge for myself. Just sayin’!

Karina Smirnoff And Corbin Bleu Dancing To A “Newer” Cher Song For Their Tango

Corbin Bleu as written a new blog at People.com. Below is a take where he talks of he and Karina Smifnoff’s Tango and their song. Be sure to read more at the link and watch a new rehearsal interview.

We’re doing the Argentine tango and dancing to Cher’s song this week. I can’t tell you which one of her songs, but it’s a newer one – which is really cool. How often do you get to perform in front of a legend? It’s one that has a great storyline to it, so we’ll be able to give it a fun vibe.

And she’s filling in for Len. He’s the only one who hasn’t given us a 10, so it will be nice to have a little reprieve from him. Cher’s an entertainer. She’s all about the performance, so we’re going to do our best to entertain.

It’s crazy how time flies. There are only four weeks left and this is where stuff gets really heavy. You’ve come this far and you really want to do your best to make it to the end. I feel more confident in the dances because I’m becoming more used to ballroom dancing.

My confidence to make it toward the end gets lower and lower because you don’t know what to expect. I always want to do my best to put on a performance that will entertain and bring joy to people.

ETA: Karina has posted her new blog too. You can read it in full at People.com.

Brant Daugherty Interviewed About His Time On DWTS, Talks Of Cher, Next Dance, And More

TV Fanatic has posted a cool interview with Brant Daugherty (one of the best of this season with him imo). He chats about how he’s holding up physically and mentally on Dancing With The Stars, what’s it’s been like working with Peta, and which has been the toughest dance so far. Below is more including talk of Cher and a small hint on he and Peta’s song for their Fox Trot.

TVF: Which of the judges is kind of the toughest to impress?

BD: They all have their expertise and different strengths they look for in the dance. I know Len [Goodman] is historically the tough one. He’s the one who really watches the technique and the timing and he has a lot of ballroom experience. He’s actually been one of our biggest supporters on the judge’s table, which has been a huge relief. I think he can see the work and the technique we’re putting into everything.

TVF: Len’s actually off this coming week and Cher’s sitting in for him.

BD: Yeah, we’re all dancing to Cher songs this week. So we’ve been exposed to a couple of [her songs] lately. I can’t say which song we’re dancing to but it’s one of her classics.

TVF: Can you say what the dance is this week?

BD: We’re doing a Fox Trot this week.

TVF: Which dance so far has been the toughest dance for you, Brant?

BD: I have to say our jive was for me the most challenging dance. It’s just a minute and a half of jumping and running and sprinting and spinning and jumping again. I was exhausted by the end of it. It was the kind of dance where you could only run it once or twice before we had to take a break, but it was hard to learn it like we learned some of the other dances.

With the Tango, you can just practice the Tango all day. But as soon as you do the Jive once, you’re sweating and you’re exhausted, and you have to take a breather before you can try it again. So it was a bit more challenging than the other ones.

TVF: You and Peta [Murgatroyd] seems like you got along so well. What’s one thing you’ve learned about her that surprised you, if anything?

BD: I really learned over the last two and a half months – three months, however long it’s been, how tough she is. I really didn’t know much about dancers or dancing before all this started. It seemed like it was challenging but I didn’t know it was as brutally exhausting as it was. For Peta, she’s not only learned and choreographed all the dances but danced them and taught me the dance and watched me as I danced and critiqued me. She has a lot going on. I have a lot of respect for her. She has one of the hardest jobs I can imagine.

Lots more at TV Fanatic.
