DWTS Season 17, The Finale (Week 11) – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Well, a little birdie tells us that the producers put out a call to the crew for more paparazzi impersonators. Seems they are reworking the season opener, only it’s going to be bigger. 🙂 That’s what Court hears, anyway. 🙂

It will be interesting seeing who goes last. They had their big ringer go last last season and we know how that worked out. Interesting. 🙂 Any bets? I’m going with Amber opening and Corbin closing…or vice versa. I may change my mind in 10 minutes. I can’t seem to stick to one opinion this season. 🙂

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Derek Hough Talks About The DWTS17 Finale, His Future Plans To Tour In Live Show, And More

DerekAmberweek10

Derek Hough has written a new blog at TV Guide. He and Amber are feeling good and pumped about this week’s finale. Derek also writes about their dances and how they are playing off of Amber’s strengths.

We have a fun idea for the freestyle. It’s a supersized freestyle again. Last season, I “undersized” it for Kellie, but we’re not doing that this time. The freestyle is all about playing to your partner’s strengths. For Kellie, it was about showcasing her flexibility and athleticism. I watch that dance now and I still can’t believe how fantastic she is. That will always be one of my favorite freestyles. This one is so different, but I think it will also be one of my favorite freestyles. We’re playing to Amber’s strengths, which are personality and showmanship. Amber can hold her own, so it’s just giving her the floor to be the star. The theme is an old school Western and we are bringing in some outside dancers. It’s looking great so far.

We have two other dances Monday night: the samba relay and the judges’ repeat dance. The judges picked the Charleston for us to redo. We did the original one in Week 3 and this one’s already more sharp and precise. One couple will be eliminated on Monday and then the final three will do the 24-Hour Challenge on Tuesday, so I’m not even thinking about that yet until we know our fate.

I think it’s a great final four we have here and to be a part of. I don’t think many people predicted this final four at the beginning of the season, but that’s what’s so great about the show. If you base it solely upon scores, it’s very surprising. But the show has never been just about scores and the best dancer. Fans have a say with their votes and the show honors the votes. People have their favorites, but toward the end, I feel like it becomes even more unpredictable. When their favorites get knocked out, now who are they voting for? Honestly, you really don’t know what’s going to happen in the finale or how people will vote. All I can control is teaching Amber and coming up with great ideas, and hopefully people will respond to it.

You can read the full blog at TV Guide.

Also, don’t miss visiting Pure Derek Hough for more updates which includes seeing some high quality photos of Derek attending the Xbox One Launch at Milk Studios in Los Angeles this past week, new paparazzi photos, screen caps from last week’s dances, video interviews, and more. THIS is a must read interview about Derek’s future plans to give you a teaser from Parade.

What is your secret project for next year?

“One thing I miss immensely in my life right now is live performance. We do live performance on the show, but I mean more like going to a big city and performing for a couple thousand people. That’s what I miss. So we’re working on a tour, basically, for next year. It’s going to be fun. It’s already getting good vibes. We’re going to have a great team we’re working with. It’s going to be a really great show. I’m excited about it.”

Is this tour associated with Dancing With the Stars?

“It’s different. It’s separate from Dancing with the Stars, but it’s going to be a lot of dancing and a lot of music. It’s going to be very interactive. It’s going to be great. It’s going to be fun.”

I hope this comes true. I’d pay good money to see this!!

Corbin Bleu And Karina Smirnoff Interviewed On Their Strategy Going Into The Finals Of Dancing With The Stars

OK! Magazine interviewed Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff about the finale on Dancing With The Stars. Karina gives a few hints below of what their freestyle might be like and their strategy. Be sure to read the link for more!

OK!: How are you going to top yourselves after a season of amazing performances?

CB: You know what’s so cool is it’s the freestyle so there are no rules. It’s so awesome and I know she’s (Karina) gonna make me do some crazy stuff.

Karina Smirnoff: With the freestyle it’s the dance that counts the most. Usually the couple who wins the freestyle wins the season. You can either go big and turn the performance outside the box and bring the house down or you can go for more of a emotional connection—something that will make people relate to their deepest, darkest, lightest, brightest emotional journeys in their life. I almost think we’re going to have a combination of both.

OK!: He’s capable of everything, so how do you narrow down what to do?

KS: It’s all about strategy. You know what some couples are going to be best in and what some couples are going to probably stay away from so you have to incorporate something you know they probably won’t do as well as something they will do. And you’ve got to show your side of that reality, your own expression of the same thing.

And speaking of Karina, Backstage has a cool new interview posted with her about “transitioning to acting” and how she caught the bug when she helped with “Shall We Dance” (loved loved that movie!). Here is a take….

I’ve always loved to perform. I went to Fordham, the same school as Denzel Washington, where I studied economics and information systems. I took some acting classes because I thought it would be an easy credit. It frankly wasn’t as easy as I expected it to be. My favorite exercise was when we would stand in two lines, and our professor would give us an emotional state, like ‘happy,’ and you would have to change your facial expression. He would give us a new one every 20 seconds. It sounds so silly, but when you realize what he was trying to do, you realize how brilliant that exercise was.

“Later I had the opportunity to be in the movie ‘Shall We Dance?.’ That introduced me to the way the whole movie business worked. At that point I started having the acting bug, but with competitions and pursuing a ballroom career and then starting ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ I didn’t know whether the bug was going to turn into reality.

“When I met Ralph Macchio on Season 12 of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and listened to him talk about acting, I started dreaming and wanting to do that again. Ralph was inspired by a relationship to write a beautiful screenplay. Together with my manager, we decided to raise funds and turn it into a short film. I started taking acting classes, at Beverly Hills Playhouse and with Jeff Passero, and I started reading Stanislavsky (the dude is Russian, so at least we have that connection). My parents have always been huge in the arts, and whenever I would ask my mother what was a good book to read about artistic expression, she would tell me to read Stanislavsky.

“To me, dancing and acting have so many similarities in the way you express yourself. Real dancers, the ones that you watch and get lost in their movements, are the ones that don’t fake the emotion of the dance but become the emotion of the dance. With acting it’s the same thing.
