Dancing With The Stars Karina Smirnoff Reveals Personal Journey On GMA Of Why She’s Freezing Her Eggs
Dancing With The Stars Karina Smirnoff did a small segment on Good Morning America this morning. She reveals her personal journey of why she is freezing her eggs in case she wants to start a family one day. Let’s wish her luck All!!
This will be long so I apologize, LOL! OK, first, I’m really happy for Karina that she’s chosen to do this for herself and a family someday, because it’s something she’s chosen. And I think it’s great that she’s being public about it. So, SO many women think they can put off having a baby until they are in their late 40’s because hey, some celebrity did it! And what you don’t know is that many celebrities don’t do it naturally, but use fertility drugs or clinics and just keep it private. Is it their choice whether to keep it private or go public? Of course it is. But I have really disliked the idea that so many women aren’t told about their reproductive health because it’s not PC. That women are told constantly by the media they can have it all at anytime they want because People Magazine or US Weekly says so-and-so got pregnant with twins at 42! It it possible to have healthy children in your 40’s naturally? Of course. I think we all know family or friends who it’s happened to. But it’s not a certainty and any doctor will tell you it’s biologically more difficult for a woman in her 40’s to get pregnant and carry a baby to term than one in her 20’s. I had my first child at 30, so I know about the doctors looking at you asking what your plans are. And I know what it feels like to think “Uh, I don’t know.”
So yes I’m thrilled for Karina that she’s able to make this choice. But I’m also thrilled that she’s not hiding it. I’m not a particular fan of Guliana Rancic’s but I really liked when she was going through fertility treatments that she too was discussing how so many women need to know more about their own bodies. That it’s best for everyone to be educated about women’s reproductive health and not just assume it’s always possible to get pregnant when you choose, because you think so and so did it.
Some women choose never to have children, other want lots, and some aren’t sure. All are our choices to make, but we need to be truthful with women and educate ourselves. That’s why I’m happy she’s talking about this.
+1 Bonnie! I agree! Good for Karina coming out like this. Thanks for posting more on this subject too as I’m not real familiar with it.
Thanks to certain members of congress, it’s getting less and less easy all the time for women to get informed about their reproductive health. And it’s scary.
IMO, if a member of Congress doesn’t have a uterus, they should have no say in womens’ reproductive health issues. Kudos for being public about this subject, Karina.
Not sure about this but that is irrelevant. The decision is hers to make and not anyone else!
Yay for Karina taking charge of her future. It’s wonderful that now technology has made it possible for women (families) who otherwise may or could not have children an opportunity to become a Mother.
Karina should make a fantastic Mom! She’s smart, talented, gorgeous and kind.
I did laugh at the face she made when talking about injecting herself!
ITA with you PH and Deena. Very scary. As a woman of 42 and mother of 3 daughters, it scares me when other people try to decide what they think is best for them when they become women.
And I agree Karina would be a great Mom someday. 🙂
