New Official Dancing With The Stars Commerical For Week 2, Switch Dance Vote?
And it’s a fun one. Though note how they mention the Switch Up dance in it and how we take control of the ballroom. Does this mean they will be doing the Switch Up dance already for the following week? Hmmm, this might be cool for some couples and not so much for others. I’m not all too anxious to see Amy teamed up with anyone else, but, Derek! 😐

Well, if the switch is happening next week (or the week after – audience votes who to switch starting Monday, and the following Monday on the show, people are told who their new partners are), and there *is* the option for people to stay with the new partner for the rest of the season, then I would think that it’s early enough that if a celeb wins, the partner they won with would be the champion, not their original partner. All speculation, of course.
My thoughts on who should be with whom for the switch:
Meryl goes to Derek, Amy goes to Henry, NeNe goes to Val, Danica goes to Mark, Diana goes to Tony, and Candace goes to Maks. IF we’re allowed to bring in troupe members who have been pros before (Sasha and Lindsay), then Candace goes to Sasha, and Diana goes to Maks, and Tony is out. This is assuming all the ladies make it through the elimination, and of course it’s not ideal, because in an ideal world I wouldn’t have to put any of the ladies with the “Fam”. Actually, since Danica is annoying me, we could give her to Maks or Tony and Mark could have Diana.
For the guys:
This one is harder for me to pick – I think Charlie goes to Emma, James goes to Karina, Billy Dee goes to Cheryl, Sean goes to Peta, Cody goes to Sharna, and Drew goes to Witney – but that doesn’t seem to work. Ideally, Cody could go to Lindsay, Drew to Sharna and Witney out – just because I can’t see Witney with *any* of the other male celebs. Maybe James goes to Witney and Drew goes to Karina?

I don’t understand HOW people will be able to list their choices ? Is the show going to list EVERY possibility of all possible pairings and attach phone numbers to it or what. It really LOOKS like a dumb idea but since I don’t understand at all how they are going to do it or switch them back ? or what if the new partner gets someone voted off ?
I don’t have a problem with the switch, it might be actually quite interesting. I do, however, worry that TPTB is gonna use twitter voting to determine the new couples (it seems logistically the easiest way) 🙁
Jess, me too. I don’t want to give myself a migraine over this. I’ll just wait patiently until TPTB reveal their stupid plan and tell us what we’re supposed to do. It does look like the switchup is going to be soon, and that’s probably a good thing. Let’s just get it over with.

Since there are now Nielsen twitter ratings, I expect this will be a hashtag vote. #NeNeMark Of course most people will probably be confused and do it incorrectly anyway. No idea what they will do if stars/pros are the top vote getters for multiple people. I imagine this will be as honest as the “star’s favorite dances” from last week and the guity pleasure songs from all-star season.
Well it looks like all the fans of the various male pros are all trying to get Meryl for their respective faves, and all the fans of the female pros are trying to get Charlie for their respective faves. If everyone’s trying to get the same two people, I think the two biggest & most organized fanbases will win out – so I think Meryl will probably end up with Derek and Charlie with Karina (even though I’d love to see Emma get him for just a week). I’d say Meryl ending up with Derek is pretty much a given – I think Charlie could go to either Karina or Cheryl. If you a fan of anyone other than the 3 pros I just mentioned – I’d start thinking of who your second or third choices are for a partner for your fave. Depending on how this whole voting works out, it could be everyone just pushing for their fave & either Meryl or Charlie…and everyone else kind of falls by the wayside. So even a small, coordinated effort amongst a few determined voters could secure a second or third choice partner for their fave pro – a bunch of Emma fans might be trying to make Charlie & Emma happen, but if there’s no way they can catch up to those voting Charlie & Karina, the second choice might actually be doable…Cody & Emma, anyone? 🙂

Well, depending if it is one vote per tweet or one vote per hashtag the best way to do it might be #CharlieEmma #CodyEmma in the same tweet. I have seen some saying they want James with her as well.
I think Sharna or Cheryl would be a good fit for Billy Dee.
Other than that, the cards can fall where ever.
I like the idea Derek had with the switching partners, I just don’t like TPTB screwing with it. Hey PTB ask Derek how to do it! It would be less of a popularity vote if it was a “draw your new pro name out of a hat” type of deal. Because now you have the off chance of people worrying about the Switch and forgetting to vote for them not to be eliminated.
@Cher, I like your idea of how to do the switch. The celeb draws a pro’s name from a hat (or a mirror-bowl, hehe) and it’s done live. There will be anxiety, surprise, drop-jaw effect, etc., which I think is what tptb is after. I agree with you that fans might get focused more on the switch-voting than the actual voting to keep the celebs they’re supporting on the show. I hope the switch is just for a week and that there will be no elimination when that happens. I don’t know how this will pan out. Bet tptb hasn’t figured it out yet, too.

My concern is Amy. Derek can dance with anyone but with Amy I think the switch will be difficult.

Val tweeted a couple of days ago that he would like to dance with Amy. He has since removed the tweet but it was out there for a couple of hours. I would hope she was not paired with Maks or Tony. She seems a tough chick and could do well with anyone.
I think Henry might be a good temporary partner for Amy – he seems considerate enough to take her somewhat special needs into account.
Kinda curious about who Candace & Danica might go to – sounds like the fam is campaigning for Val & Maks to just switch partners, but I don’t see Val getting Meryl. I’ve also seen a lot of people dying to see NeNe with Mark 😛 Haven’t heard too much about who people want Candace to go to…could she end up with Tony, just because nobody is really indicating anything else? 8-0
It’s people like those who want to try to get NeNe paired with Mark that make allowing fans to choose who gets whom a total gimmick.
This is going to be nothing more than a fan revenge fest. Stick a pro you don’t like with the worst possible celeb. I don’t care for NeNe and I’m not a big Mark fan, but I don’t want to see them dancing together. That’s just foolishness.
Derek’s idea of a switch was just to do something fun, but in classic DWTS mode, TPTB have twisted it into something ugly. 👿

@Cidra – The tone of the whole thing takes me back to the all-star season, when the couples themselves were basically encouraged to screw each other over by picking dances for each other. This time, it’s just the viewers that are being encouraged to screw each other over. The tone of the show has definitely changed in the past few years to become more…well, dirty.

To their credit, the couples on the All-Stars season pretty much refused to play along with the attempted screw. So this time TPTB decided to go to a source they knew they could count on to be petty and vindictive (the fans) in order to create the drama they so desperately crave.
I can’t wait until the switch-up is over.
I was going to say All-Star season reminded me of Luke in Jabba’s death pit fighting the Rancor Monster but I didn’t want TPTB getting any new ideas. Because everybody knows Star Wars is more of a reality show than DWTS.
I would also like to see Amy & Henry as partners, but what happens if Henry & Diana are eliminated this week? Is he still eligible to be a partner?

I’m not worried. I think whoever gets Amy will not only be on their best behavior, but will do their best FOR her. To do otherwise is suicide…for THEM. The audience will turn on them in a hot minute.
Here’s my switch list. Depending on who get eliminated, it’s subject to change.
Meryl goes to Derek: an ideal match – talented, creative and both are pure class. Amy goes to Mark: Candace said Mark was very sweet and patient with her so I’m sure he’ll be very nice to Amy too. Danica goes to Tony: he’s boring and she’s annoying so it’s a good match. Ne Ne goes to Maks: She’s very tall, a good height match with Maks. Candace goes to Henry: I like her a lot and think she’ll do well with Henry. Diane goes to Val: Love her personality and sharp wit witch might make Val a bit more tolerable. Besides, he deserves a non-contender.
The Guys:
Charlie goes to Karina: I love Karina and her choreo. She’ll showcase Charlie best. James goes to Emma: James has talent and with Emma as his partner he could go far. Sean goes to Peta: I initially picked Sean as my dark horse but I’m beginning to change my mind. He just seems so lack luster and cold. Perhaps Peta can draw a spark of warmth out of him. Cody goes to Cheryl and Drew goes to Whitney: These 2 are not ideal, but there it is.

OK, first of all, i really like the style of these Promos. It’s stupid to say, but I just like how they look!
Now, my switch scenarios. These are my optimal scenarios.
GUYS
Drew will be paired with Emma if Lindsay is paired with Cody. If not, then he could be with Sharna. After all, she did well with Andy Dick, who seems similar to Drew to me.
Charlie is the other desirable dancer. Karina, who is good with athletes, would be a good match for him.
Sean with Peta. Just because he and Cheryl would not go well.
Billy (if he is even still in) with Cheryl. It would be a lot of work for Cheryl, but I don’t really see him with any other pro, really.
Cody goes to Lindsay. She is very similar to Witney in training, and the two are BFFs, so this would be an easy transition. Also, I want him with a younger dancer. I would say Jenna, but she’s troupe. If Lindsay is ineligible because she is troupe, then Emma, or Sharna if Emma goes to Drew.
James with Witney. Keeping her with a younger partner would benefit both of them.
GIRLS are a bit more complicated. I think it depends on who ends up with Amy, rather than who ends up with Meryl. Because Amy is the most fragile dancer. The only easy thing to predict for me is that NeNe will fall under the radar and basically end up with the last remaining male pro. I think that will be Maks or Val, because I can’t quite figure out who else to put him with, and ESPECIALLY because the C bros fans will focus on putting Val with Meryl and ignoring any other option. I also can see Tony ending up with Diana. I think that he’s had
Here’s where things get complicated, and I go through every scenario.
If Amy is with Mark AND Meryl is with Val, Derek ends up with Danica and Candace with Henry
If Amy is with Mark AND Meryl is with Derek, Candace ends up with Val and Danica ends up with Henry.
If Amy is with Henry and Meryl is with Derek, Danica and Candace basically end up switching partners.
If Amy is with Henry and Meryl is with Val, Derek is with Candace and Mark is with Danica.
If Amy is with Henry and Meryl is with Mark, Danica is with Derek and Candace is with Val.
If Amy is with Mark and Meryl is with Henry, Derek is with Danica and Val goes with Candace.
There was probably a better way to say that, but I couldn’t really figure it out. So I figured better to be clear.
Some Maks fans are wanting to vote Derek with Nene….which is essentially vote splitting meaning they wont’ get anything they actually want.
And Derek would actually teach NeNe to dance, she would be fabulous, putting Tony to shame. 🙂
Funny that Maks fans appear to be the only ones so insecure that they focus on Derek instead of Maks….perhaps this is why he’s never won.
The ABC announcement says all couples will be required to switch. But why can’t us fans vote to keep the same partners. What if all the “twitter” votes say Amy/ Derek or Meryl /Maks. I guess the big shots could throw those kind of votes out; but they said we the fans could choose; right! That’s how I will vote I don’t want anyone to switch. Am I making sense?
ette, You’re making sense, but ABC is making the rules. My guess is they’ll do exactly what you said — namely, not count any votes for current pairs (Amy/Derek, Meryl/Maks, etc.) So you either play by *their* rules and vote for a different pairing that you could live with or sit out the vote and let others decide the outcome.
I don’t like the switcheroo any better than you do, and if you want to make a “statement”, by all means register a protest vote (Amy/Derek). However, if you do that or choose not to vote at all, you can’t legitimately complain about who ends up paired with whom. Disclaimer: That’s just my opinion, of course. I’m not telling you (or anyone else) what they can do, think, or say.
If Sean is voted off… that kills Karina’s chances to be paired with Charlie 🙁 Now hoping the hockey dude is safe.
I want for Derek to be paired with Meryl and for Amy to go to Mark. I don’t want her even near the C brothers, I don’t know why. But only for a week, with no eliminations. After one week Derek and Amy should get back together. I hope this is how it’s going to work out 🙂
It seems so odd to be doing this stunt so early. For one thing it seems especially mean to the couples who have only had a couple of weeks before the premiere and one additional week with their partner. They are probably just starting to feel comfortable with their pro and their teaching styles and now they are being switched, having to learn a new style and a new way of learning, only to be switched back again. I would guess that is going to set almost everyone back and result in some below average dancing over the next few weeks. Why not wait until people have more experience and the weaker dancers are eliminated?
Also how are we supposed to know who we think might make better or interesting pairings? We’ve only had one week to see them dance and evaluate their skills and personalities. We also have two new pros in the mix that the average viewer hardly knows at all.
I’m still unclear on how permanent these changes will be. Does the show want some of these switches to stick or not?
Stop, giving so sympathy or concern to Amy.I think they should have did the switcharoo last season better cast. The gold olympians make it so unfair to me I just wish for season 17. Besides the opening was just ok and there was no WOW! like with Amber. That is my litmus !!
@ Karen T … I think they’re doing the switch early so the stars don’t get too comfortable with their partners as the switch could be permanent.
Since the voters will decide the pairing switch, maybe there will be a second vote as it whether the switch is permanent or everyone goes back to their original partners. Just speculating.
