DWTS Diana Nyad Interviewed By TV Guide On The Switch Up Dance, Her Cha Cha, And More

TV Guide has interviewed Diana Nyad all about her first dance and how she felt about her scores. They also ask her about her new dance this week (the Cha Cha) and how she feels about the switch up dance coming up. I love how she says, “I don’t want to leave Henry. I would feel like my lifeline’s gone away.” Oh man, reading her words, makes me feel bad for the celebs. It’s one thing to go out there and dance every week and quite another to make them leave the partner they are use too. 🙁 More below and at the link. Great interview!

So how do you feel about doing the cha-cha next week?
Nyad: The first day I met Henry, within five minutes of meeting him, he said, “Look, I’ve been told that for our first week we’re going to either have the foxtrot or the cha-cha.” And I said, “Oh please, let it be the cha-cha.” Because, not that I can tell you that I know anything about doing a professional cha-cha, but just with friends out at a club or something, I have a little feeling of Latin music. I’ve done a little social dancing, salsa, and can move the hips a little bit. The foxtrot was absolutely alien to me. Every single thing about it. It was difficult for me to find the joy in it. Whereas, I pretty much don’t care who you are, if you get out doing a cha-cha, a meringue, a salsa, you’re kind of feeling the Latin beat. You think you’re in the Caribbean. It’s easy to smile your way through that. So I’m not telling you I’m going to be great technique-wise, but I guarantee I’m going to be at a much higher comfort level when we go out.

The big twist this season is that the pairs will be switching partners at some point. How do you feel about that?
Nyad: I think it’s a great twist. … I’m more nervous about not being around anymore when that little twist comes. … I don’t want to leave Henry. I would feel like my lifeline’s gone away. And I’m sure everybody feels that way, no matter who their partner is. But for one week, if I’m still with the show, I’m sure I’d learn from and have a gas being with any of these people.

Have you given any thought to which pro you’d like to be partnered with?
Nyad: It’s probably not popular with Middle America, and I don’t even know if it would possible, given who’s eliminated and who’s left to choose from, but honestly — it’s not even a gay thing — I’d like to do a dance with Cheryl Burke. I just think it would be hot, like when you see those 1920s art salons in Paris. The women always got up. And in Cuba, they dance together. … I did talk to Cheryl about it. She said she’d love to do it. But I’m not sure it would be right for the show. Although, come on. They had Chaz Bono on already. Surely you couldn’t get more radical than that.

DWTS Season 18, Week 2: Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Another week, another set of dances that the celebs supposedly picked. Riiiight. Tell it to Candace. 🙂 Lots of angst about the switch up – I say “bring it”. I’m quite confident that my favorite pro will look pretty darn good with anyone, included Nene or Diana….or James or Cody for that matter. 🙂 I refuse to get worked up about the switch, only about people bugging me about the switch. 😉 Part of me hopes Derek will indeed get Nene just to see what the “He’s never been challenged” people will say when they do terrific together. I imagine they will pretend it never happened, or she will magically become a ringer on the order of Meryl. 😀

The dances for this week? See below. I noticed that Val and Danica are already done with camera blocking. Figured I better get the post up. I figure that Sean is in trouble with the Salsa, as is Drew with the Jive. NeNe – hard to say. She’s a pretty good dancer, but I suspect we’ll see a non-jive kinda like was saw a non-cha cha. Question is, will Tony ever get called out? He doesn’t seem to get called out for anything that Derek and Mark get called out for. I think Danicathetotallynonringer will do fantastic with Samba. Billy could surprise us with the Tango and I expect Charlie to KILL the tango. Cody is a question mark. I really liked his cha cha on rewatching it – it could go either way though on Tango. Meryl – don’t be silly. Her swing will be amazing. I think I will be holding my breath during Amy’s swing, as there are apparently lifts and such. Scary. James and Salsa?? Hmmmm…I think he’ll be okay. We’ll find out soon!!

I kinda half assed a dance order, below. Not really expecting it to be close. 🙂 I sure wasn’t last week when I gave it more thought.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Season 18 Karina Smirnoff Doesn’t Want Sean Avery To Lighten Up

In a new interview with OK! Magazine, Karina Smirnoff talks of Dancing With The Stars partner Sean Avery and why she doesn’t want him to lighten up like she first thought. Here’s why….

The first two days I was very nervous and concerned because I did not know what to expect from him,” she admitted while chatting with reporters on the DWTS press line after last Monday’s premiere. “He was very serious. Now that we know each other—I love the guy. He’s funny, not in a ha-ha type of way, his humor is very dry, very unique, very clever, but he’s incredibly sweet. He’s a man. He wants to make sure that I’m comfortable with the dance. I want America to see the Sean that I see in the studio every day.”

Karina offers up an example of how the ex New York Ranger is actually quite the gentleman.

“I live in Calabasas and my call time is 630 in the morning on Mondays,” she explains. “He asked, ‘Are you going to be driving from Calabasas?’ And I said, “Well I was planning to drive unless you’re going to send a plane.’ He said, ‘No, no, no—you need to rest. You need to get something closer.’ He organized a place for me to stay that’s closer (to the DWTS studio). I’ve never had a partner do that! I want people to see how sweet he is. Even in rehearsals, if something doesn’t work out he may be, ‘Ergghhh,’ but then he will smile and then it’s all great and it works out. I want his personality to come through on camera.”

More at OK! Magazine. I love Sean’s dry sense of humor too and his serious look. He’s funny and shows personality in his own way. I hope they just keep running with it. And speaking of his serious look and own way, have you all seen this yet? It’s a hoot!!

Cody Simpson To Dance To His “Surfboard” Single In DWTS Week 3 (New Interviews)

Z100 interviewed Cody Simpson yesterday! He talks all about his new single “Surfboard”. He also talks of Dancing With The Stars. He never expected dancing to be so much work, but, he’s having fun and it’s like nothing he’s ever experienced before. Even more exciting for him, he and Witney (adding: or will it be someone else?) get to dance to “Surfboard” in week 3 on Dancing With The Stars. Cody talks of Witney too and how they are both young and hungry to do well. Lots more at Z100. OK! Magazine is also featuring an interview with Cody on his new single.
