Weekly Guest Poem For DWTS18 Week 3: “Years Of The Dance”

I don’t know how Lois comes up with so many great poems for Dancing With The Stars, but, here she does it again and in the perfect way for this past week…

YEARS OF THE DANCE

YEARS OF THE DANCE, recreating moments in time
Mesmerizing, marvelous, magical, moving, majestic

YEARS OF THE DANCE, chosen to recreate memories
To interpret a special story on the floor of the dance

YEARS OF THE DANCE, recreating triumph, tears, joy
A spectacular evening of dance, a magnificent display

MERYL DAVIS AND MAKSIM CHMERKOVSKIY – FOXTROT
A 17 YEAR JOURNEY OF A SKATING PARTNERSHIP
TO OLYMPIC GOLD

A concerto on the dance floor, a delicate love story
M & M – Full of sweetness, delicious and dynamic

DREW CAREY AND CHERYL BURKE – WALTZ
2005 – A SON IS BORN – NAME OF CONNOR:

A whimsical dance full of whirling, twirling, swirling
Charming, full of soul – a father and son embracing

PETA MURGATROYD AND JAMES MASLOW – JIVE
2007 – TIMES OF BEING BULLIED

A snappy-happy, toe-tappy dance, vibrant, alive
An explosive, lightning strike victory celebration

CODY SIMPSON AND WITNEY CARSON – JAZZ
2010 – BEGINNING OF A MUSICAL CAREER
MOVING TO THE UNITED STATES

A personal song, SURFBOARD, a Cody original
Jazzy for the present, abstract, owning the floor

VAL CHMERKOVSKIY AND DANICA MCKELLAR
CONTEMPORARY – 2010 – BIRTH OF A SON – DRACO
MOURNING A GRANDMOTHER

A dance of memorial, a dance of new life, graceful
Fluid, beautiful, delicate, enchanting, embracing a son

NENE LEAKES AND TONY. DOVOLONI – RUMBA
2013 – A SECOND CHANCE AT A HUSBAND’S LOVE

A lyrical, flowing dance of beauty, of celebration
Sensual, full of passion, depiction of one true love

AMY PURDY – DEREK HOUGH – CONTEMPORARY
1999 – A YEAR THAT CHANGED A LIFE FOREVER
A FATHER’S GIFTING TWICE OF LIFE

A dance immensely inspirational, an interpretation
Of the beauty of life, tears of joy flowing like a river

CANDACE CAMERON AND MARK BALLAS – JIVE
1995 – LEAVING A TV FAMILY – A BETROTHAL

An Elvis inspiration of joy of a new partnership
Sharp, clean, a proper, snazzy–jazzy joyful jive

CHARLIE WHITE AND SHARNA BURGESS – JIVE
2010 – 2014 – A JOURNEY TO OLYMPIC GOLD

A dancing Happy Hour on the ballroom landscape
Light as air, light on the feet, dynamite extravaganza

EMMA SLATER AND BILLY DEE WILLIAMS – WALTZ

A story of life was not able to be danced on the floor
Billy Dee danced into our hearts, we bid him adieu

YEARS OF THE DANCE, stories told through dance
Interpretations of deep personal feelings of the heart

The most brilliant night in the ballroom in 18 seasons
Dancing reaching new heights to the ballroom rafters

YEARS OF THE DANCE, we all have a story to tell
Dance to the music written to the beats of your heart!

Written By Lois A Troutman, April 2, 2014

Billy Dee Williams’ Final Dance On The Tonight Show, So Cute

Jimmy Fallon of The Tonight Show was so upset with Billy Dee William’s departure from Dancing With The Stars, he invited him to perform one last dance with a very hairy partner. lol Check this out and thanks to Court for sending.

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 3 – Power Rankings

I apologize that this is so late – I got caught up figuring out the results of the hashtag tracking yesterday (which was pointless, it turns out) and just got burnt out and didn’t want to bombard everyone with these right after posting them.  So here they are now 🙂

“Most Memorable Year” week has never been my favorite, and I think Monday night was the weakest show they’ve had so far this season – just some very odd song choices (which makes me wonder if they were ASSIGNED certain songs, as opposed to actually picking them), some lackluster choreography, and some elimination fishiness.  Sad to see Billy Dee go, but if he really did have to withdraw due to injury (more on that in a post coming later tonight…), at least he got to leave on his own terms.  Then again, after some murmurings I’ve heard, I’m not so sure he left voluntarily…

1.) Amy & Derek – The bf came over after work to watch the Walking Dead season finale (since he doesn’t have cable), and he ended up rewatching DWTS with me afterward.  The only dance he asked to see a second time? This one.  🙂  He was fascinated by Amy’s “swimming legs” and how she was able to stay balanced on them so well, and how realistically they seemed to move.  We both loved the move where Derek pulled her through his legs and she did a sort of somersalt, and landed perfectly on her pointed toes – she looked like a ballerina on pointe.  Just a gorgeous routine that beautifully highlighted what Amy is capable of – I think she really won the night with this dance.  Thought it was underscored, though, and I’m wondering if they deliberately clustered the rest of the scores in order to allow Meryl & Maks to sit at the top, uncontested…makes for a better storyline next week, I guess. James Maslow Writes On The Switch Up Dance And His New Goals For Dancing With The Stars

At Parade.com, James Maslow writes about this past week’s Jive with Peta and rehearsals leading up to it. He pulled some muscles in his hamstring, so, it made rehearsing that much more difficult. He also talks of the Switch Up dance this week and what he thinks he needs to do next to get a “10” from the judges. More below and at Parade.com.

We’ve got a couple more tricks left, but if I want to stay in this competition. I think I’ll need to do something new and exciting in order to get a 10 from the judges. I think it’s going to take a combination of really perfecting technique, performance, and difficult choreography. I think we had most of those factors last night, but obviously technique wasn’t perfect and I think that as the weeks go on I’m going to continue to get better and hopefully have something that moves the judges. And that might take a more emotional piece over a high-energy piece, they seem to really enjoy those.

Going into the switch this week, for the most part I’m just going to try and do my best and hopefully have a conversation with whoever my dance partner is today and say, “look, I know this score doesn’t help you out, but please do your best to make it a killer dance.” And I think they will, because I don’t think they want to look bad ever, so that works to my advantage. Strategy is just to work as hard as I can and hopefully get what I need from them, and if not, work extra time on my own. I have no clue who I’m dancing with yet, or what the dance is, but I’ll tweet about it unless they tell us otherwise.

Afterbuzz And Paul Karmiryan Review DWTS18 Week 3: Do you agree or disagree?

Below is the new Afterbuzz Dancing With The Stars episode and it’s a great one at that again! This time their special guest is “So You Think You Can Dance’s” Paul Karmiryan! I’m excited on this guest as I saw him in “Ballroom With A Twist” in February and he was fantastic….full of lots of energy and passion. He totally captured my attention in dances like this….

*Awwww, memories and dreams true. Sharna, Gleb, Paul take me there again* Dies

Ok, so onto the new Afterbuzz episode. I agreed with them on everything except for Suri on Tony and NeNe. She says Tony has been working out and planned to take off his shirt. She thought it worked for the dance and liked Nene without shoes. Anna was dead on about Maks and Meryl’s dance too in my opinion. It seemed more like a Contemporary dance and he’s not challenging her enough. Lot’s more below. Let us know if you agree or disagree with them. I may have more thoughts in comments. Also, special thanks to Kristyn for mentioning us in her blog on our Switch Up research before she introduced the new Afterbuzz episode. She rocks! Court and Heidi may have more to report on that in this post too. xxx

ABC Releases Details For Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Week 4

ABC MediaNet has released details on next week’s Dancing With The Stars. As previously reported, next week is the Switch Up dance. It won’t be until that time that the new couples will be revealed. Julianne Hough will be the guest judge. Also, for the first time, the Macy’s Stars of Dance will be back with “oversight” by Derek Hough!! NOTE: There is a lot of controversial talk on the Switch Up voting currently and whether our votes counted or not. For more, see this post for some news that came out last night.

ETA: According to this tweet by George Pennacchio, this is how the votes will go down for the next elimination to take place on April 14th…

OK #DWTS fans, the info you’ve been asking about: ABC says scores & votes from 3/31 & 4/7 will be combined to eliminate one couple on 4/14.

George also tweeted this about the viewer votings…

@jl2285 I’m confident producers went with the viewer votes. I say just enjoy the week ahead.

“Episode 1804” – The votes are in and for the first time ever celebrities will switch professional dance partners on “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, APRIL 7 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. This past week, America was given the power to vote and change celebrity and professional dance pairings and now each star must face this new challenge. The new couples will be revealed live for the first time throughout the evening. The show will begin with an opening number featuring the entire cast followed by each celebrity tackling a new style of dance with their new partner. Additionally, two-time professional “Dancing with the Stars” champion, Julianne Hough, will return to guest judge for the second time alongside Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.

“Macy’s Stars of Dance” returns for its first installment of the season with creative oversight by Emmy® Award-winning Choreographer and Pro Dancer, Derek Hough. The unique performance will showcase explosive choreography that blends Latin and contemporary dance styles and will feature both the Pro and Troupe dancers. The piece will also feature “So You Think You Can Dance” all-star Kathryn McCormick.
