ABC Releases Details For Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Week 4
ABC MediaNet has released details on next week’s Dancing With The Stars. As previously reported, next week is the Switch Up dance. It won’t be until that time that the new couples will be revealed. Julianne Hough will be the guest judge. Also, for the first time, the Macy’s Stars of Dance will be back with “oversight” by Derek Hough!! NOTE: There is a lot of controversial talk on the Switch Up voting currently and whether our votes counted or not. For more, see this post for some news that came out last night.
ETA: According to this tweet by George Pennacchio, this is how the votes will go down for the next elimination to take place on April 14th…
OK #DWTS fans, the info you’ve been asking about: ABC says scores & votes from 3/31 & 4/7 will be combined to eliminate one couple on 4/14.
George also tweeted this about the viewer votings…
@jl2285 I’m confident producers went with the viewer votes. I say just enjoy the week ahead.
“Episode 1804” – The votes are in and for the first time ever celebrities will switch professional dance partners on “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, APRIL 7 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. This past week, America was given the power to vote and change celebrity and professional dance pairings and now each star must face this new challenge. The new couples will be revealed live for the first time throughout the evening. The show will begin with an opening number featuring the entire cast followed by each celebrity tackling a new style of dance with their new partner. Additionally, two-time professional “Dancing with the Stars” champion, Julianne Hough, will return to guest judge for the second time alongside Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.
“Macy’s Stars of Dance” returns for its first installment of the season with creative oversight by Emmy® Award-winning Choreographer and Pro Dancer, Derek Hough. The unique performance will showcase explosive choreography that blends Latin and contemporary dance styles and will feature both the Pro and Troupe dancers. The piece will also feature “So You Think You Can Dance” all-star Kathryn McCormick.
After finding out that this whole switch up is rigged, the only think I’m looking forward next week is “Macy’s Stars of Dance”. Derek is just a genious and I have no doubt that he will come up with something amazing and jaw-dropping.
Tamara, I totally agree with you, to say it’s a damn insult to us viewers is an understatement, thank goodness for Derek, can’t wait to see this genius in action.
Yes, here’s to Derek and seeing the Macy’s Stars of Dance. *I can’t wait too!
As for the couples, I’m still looking forward to them dancing no matter how they are paired since this is something they can’t help. It’s not their fault for whatever shenanigans the producers might be pulling behind the scenes with the votes.
Looking forward to watching the Macy’s Stars of Dance. I thought it was going to be the dance he choreographed for Misty Copeland, but I’ll take whatever I can get at this point. lol.
Hi. I have a question. What would stop a pro from wanting their new partner to do as bad as possible in order for the new partner’s lower score to be used on 4/14/14? Thanks & appreciate the site.
Sigh! Like everyone up-thread, the only thing I look forward to is the Macy’s number. I’m still a bit mad but more hurt at what the show’s producers did (or did not do).
#Katie, like you I hope Misty will do a guest appearance showcasing Derek’s choreo for her.
Well this dumb. How are the stars supposed to instantly prepare to dance with another person who might not even know the choreography!? They should have started voting week 2 and announced them week 3. Oh wait i forgot VOTES DON’T COUNT IT’S SURPRISE PAIRINGS!!!!! Are the stars practicing with their regular pro? Are they even practicing at all? Who knows? Next week is gonna be hectic…
Looking forward to getting this switchup fiasco over and never hear of it again!
Me too Jim!!!
This switch up week is like not wanting to drink that nasty crap before a procedure… You just want to get it done and over with! Aftertaste and all. 🙂
+1 Sandy!!
@Fran, I think what it’s saying isn’t that the pros and stars learn their partners on Monday, but the viewers find out. From what was said in other threads, they were meeting their new partners on Tuesday, so they will have the week to work with the person they’ll dance with on Monday. We just aren’t going to be able to know who is with whom.
@Misty, I’m not really sure what you’re asking, so please forgive if I’m off base…. I think it will be in each of the pro’s best interest to help their new partner to do the best possible job, because it will reflect on THEM. Yes, they could try to sabotage the new partner, but I’m sure that TPTB will be keeping a close eye on each of the pairings, maybe more than they usually do. As Cheryl said somewhere before the season started, something like this can show whether someone is a good teacher or not (rephrasing). It would look badly for the first pro, if a star is doing a much better job with a different pro. And, it would look badly for the switch pro, if the star isn’t doing as well as they had with the first pro. Does that make sense? And who knows if this may end up being a test, with TPTB using what happens as a way to decide if they want to keep or eliminate someone from their (expansive) roster of possible teaching pros. Who knows?
I guess I’m saying that I think it would be in the pros BEST INTEREST to make sure to do as good as possible with their new partner, because doing otherwise may end up biting them in the backside.
I mean stars/pros find out on TUESDAY, not Monday….
The pro dancers are the real pros, unlike TPTB that play these stupid games with the cast and the viewers. Hope the cast has fun this week.
Which pro gets eliminated? Everyone is assuming the original pairing but is that official.
This season is too chaotic for me. I just want to see great dancing without all this switch-up mess. Derek will be awesome as usual. I am devouring every moment Derek is on camera because I believe this will be his swan song to DWTS. Not sure I will continue to be as enthusiastic about DWTS after Derek says adeiu. Looking forward to what he does with his new partner as well as Macy’s.
PS. I am concerned about how we will vote next week. Do we vote for the new partner/pro match-up or do we vote for the original?
Careful – Derek has creative oversight (I think Tom went so far as to call him creative director) but it’s not necessarily going to be solely…or even mostly..his creation.
Integrity and Pride, Misty.
Thanks for the input. I just wonder how I would feel as a new partner, if a Pro was going around saying how it’s the worst thing ever. Mark and Candace said it would be fun, etc. and I would want to hear that versus someone already having a bad attitude about it. But, that’s just me. Maybe, Val ended up with Meryl and he will be saying how fun it is then.
I would think they would have to eliminate the original couple since the scores/votes from the 31st are included. I’m going to vote for my favorite celebrity on the 7th. By the 14th, the celeb will be back with their original partner so I don’t see how they could eliminate a couple from the week before.
Also looking forward to Macy’s Stars of Dance!
