Maks Chmerkovskiy Talks Of Julianne Hough’s Bad Choice, DWTS, His Jewelry Line, And More
Maks talks New York City Live about the switch up dance, how Julianne Hough made a bad choice….uhhhh….ok, I’m not sure I want to listen to the rest of this? I have never seen his ego at it’s biggest! 😕
Just because you don’t agree with what she says, it doesn’t make it a “Bad Choice”. So much for trying to like Maks this season.

Kaitlyn, I was trying too. At the beginning of the season, I wiped the slate clean. I feel sorry for Meryl the most.
Same here, Vogue! He says in interviews that it doesn’t mean anything to him to him, yet he keeps on talking about it. It’s almost like he’s playing the “Woe is me” card…just keeping all the media attention on him.
Meryl seems to be part of the “fam” as they call it. I don’t know how they do it but she seems to have drunk their koolaide.
So I don’t want to group all Maksim fans in the same group, but he has some of the nastiest ones on twitter. I was having a private twitter convo with Vogue and another friend about this blog post and a Maks fan had the audacity to butt into our convo and call us ignorant fools. Stalking much?! I have my opinion about Maks, but I never tag him on twitter and rarely express a strong opinion about him. But his fans definitely affect the way I view him because I think a celeb attracts like-minded fans.
I feel the same….wanted to give Maks a chance but he is the same(no comment). I think the point Julianne was trying to make was that he did give Danica (who is a dancer) a very challenging routine, she wanted to see more. She could have worded differently, however he needed to say a bad choice of words if that is how he feels, she gave her opinion.
Why do the producers of DWTS think they needed to bring him back?
Ya know I would take more seriously if he actually had the credentials to back it up… all bark no bite. Julianne may be only 25, but she’s won 2x and has been nominated for an Emmy, more than what Maks can say. What a pathetic excuse for a grown man oh wait sorry I meant manchild.

No, he’s right it was a bad choice. If she didn’t think there was enough jive content or didn’t like the choreo then she should have said just that. That would have been a professional critique. How she chose to comment has not only undermined the point she was trying to make, it has also attracted largely negative press for her. So unless she was trying to up Maks’ media profile it was a bad choice.
I don’t completely disagree with what Julianne said, but I think her delivery could have been better. Same thing with the comment about Mark. It’s almost like she doesn’t really think before speaking. If I was him, I would have been offended to have my integrity and character questioned on live television by a fellow professional, especially saying that he intentionally tried to screw his brother over, which is ridiculous. I was happy that he didn’t say anything back. He seems a lot more relaxed this season.
In the access hollywood interview, Val mentioned that he worked with Meryl focusing more on something his brother doesn’t prioritize, which is technique, and Maks focused on helping Danica let go of control more, analise less and just enjoy herself, so I think they were both successful in that. There were a lot of mistakes with music, cameras, etc and I didn’t even notice any of it. It wasn’t a bad routine, that’s just Maks’s style of choreographing.
I have no issue with what he said.

I think he and Meryl have great chemistry and are great for each other.
I think I figured out why Maks mucks around so much during practically every jive he dances. He doesn’t have the stamina to do a proper jive, so he puts a lot of fluff in between to give himself a rest.
A**hole needs the press can’t get it with his choreo. In the end Meryl will not get the MBT because his attitude will turn the voters off.
At least he has some friends in the skybox.

@Albajuly- It’s not up to Maks (or you or me) to decide whether or not what Julianne said was a bad choice. Julianne made the comment, therefore it’s up to her to decide if it was bad or not.
So, give me one reason why this man deserves to win this season. His attitude stinks. His ( some) fans are just evil/crazy, threatening people on social media is just wrong. He knowingly adds fuel to the fire.
He should just move on to that lucrative movie career and forget DWTS….
@Ananya- I think that Meryl is being dragged down by Maks. I was blown away by how sweet she was in her package. I mean, it was adorable! I feel bad that she is paired with Maks.
Here’s a prediction: Meryl will not make it to the finals, but Charlie will, and then he will bring Meryl in for the freestyle.
I’m not sure Julianne’s comments to Mark and her comments to Maks are coming from the same place.
Julianne’s comments to Maks were harsh, but had (at least to this old greybeard’s eyes) some basis the routine she had just watched. Her comments to Mark came across (to me) as more ad hominem and actually mean-spirited.
However, Julianne and Mark have a very difficult relationship for several very difficult reasons.

Since Julianne had no problems publicly questioning Maks’ professionalism, I think calling it a ‘bad choice’ is not anything she can quibble with. Pretty restrained actually. I’m entitled to my opinion too.
I personally don’t see why it’s oaky for Julianne to give her opinion on Maks’ work ethic but Maks can’t have an opinion in return. If she has every right to say what she wants, so can he or Mark or Sharna or whomever in response. Julianne is not untouchable or better than her old castmates.
Maks may or may not be able to deliver for Meryl in the end but I can’t blame him for answering a question asked by all of these entertainment reporters. Julianne even said something along the lines of it being good for ratings. But that’s also social media and the 24-hour news (ahem) cycle. So I guess it goes with the territory.
I saw that, Elmari and I was referring to just that in a post on another thread. “Oh, Derek fans are so mean.” Um, so DON’T TALK TO THEM. Seriously, butt out. And really, tagging me and Derek on your shit is really mature. Are you going around just dying to pick a fight so that you can claim Derek fans are just as bad as YOU are?? Guess what – you’ll have to get me to give a flying fuck first. 😀

Both of the Chmerkovskiy partners are going to lose I think. I don’t know why they have this us against them attitude. They have gotten more than enough publicity over this and I am sure that wasn’t Julianne’s intention. Why does it always have to be about them and not their partners. Even Danica and Meryl say they are part of the fam.
Some people were wondering who would show up this season – the good Maks or the bad Maks. There is only one Maks and those of us who watch him through the years KNOW exactly what he is.
Did TPTB ask him back or did he beg DWTS to take him back. IDK but I wish he never came back and that spot was given to Gleb.
I was suddenly reminded of an Albert Einstein quote: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” I think that this is a great quote for TPTB in terms of the Chmercocky brothers. They have been on for a combined 20 seasons, and haven’t won. So maybe give up? I don’t know. But I think that says something about their teaching style and stuff.
All of you better watch it. You’re entitled to your opinion only as long as you present it in a way not attacking other people.

That’s just it, Ashley – Maks CAN give an opinion in return and some of us can say he’s an asshole. That’s how it works. Everybody gets an opinion.
And really, Maks can dish it out but he clearly can’t take it. Isn’t he the one who said Len needed to retire, that CAI didn’t know what she was talking about, that Derek always gets great partners – just to name three things?? He has thrown his share of shit in his time, he best learn to take it.

I feel the same way about Meryl. Especially after reading some comments by other skaters who said she was rather cold. Charlie’s the one with the great personality and is well liked.

Some of his fans are just crazy. Comparing this Jules to Hitler, calling her a wh@$&, death threats, just too much. Admit that his choreo was weak. I know it’s hard.
A lot of people have crazy fans – look at Jodie Foster (Taxi Driver). Her fan tried to shoot a President..Not her fault. Disney is a great idea to calm the waters. Fantasy is also great. Looking forward to both next week
I’m so disappointed that some people are making Meryl guilty by association with Maks. She seems so sweet to her fans and to her friends and to charlie. Even when she is bothered by the paps while going to the after show parties, she is so genuinely sweet and patient to her fans who want multiple pictures and autographs.
Of course, she is fiercely loyal to her partners and it’s not her fault that she has Maks.
I hope she makes it to the finals. It would be a travesty if both of them didn’t make it.
Both C Bros bother me a little bit. A little too cocky, at least on tv. Not everyone can be diplomatic and genuinely nice like Derek and Charlie and other pros.
If other skaters say that Meryl is cold, I would bet that she is shy in social situations and extremely focused during competition. She is all business backstage during competitions. . It’s easier for Charlie to turn it on and off and Meryl has said that he helps her when she becomes stressed.
@Megan, I REALLY hate to say this, but unfortunately, these aren’t the first death threats she’s gotten by a super-charged crazed fangroup. The last ones started with her, and continued on to include her brother…. Fortunately, I think both Houghs are sure enough about themselves that they can “release” this with almost no trouble. And unfortunately, both have also had a lot of practice, and I am amazed at how positive and loving both are, even with all of the batsheet that keep attacking (which makes them more batsheet, go figure).
I think it was mentioned that they asked Mak if he wanted to come back as a judge or one of the pros n Val insisted for his bro to come back as a pro.
JMO. I think Julianne was trying to say that Mak was dancing alone half of the dance (which i agree) instead of dancing w/Dancia in order 4 the judges to see more content. Danica, a good dancer could have up her score if they saw more content. Was he trying to lay low because he wanted Meryl to have the higher score? Also, possibility Mak mentioned music wasn’t going as planned …so did not follow thru so thats why the dancing alone n going around Danica. Derek folks had the same problem w/the music too, but Derek kept telling NeNe just keep going, just keep going.
Having been a former student of theirs, I can honestly say that more than once in all this time, the way Maks, Val, and Tony act still embarrasses me. While Julianne’s comment, in my opinion, was spot on, it made me cringe and I still don’t think she should have said it, because I knew all it would do would be to give “The Fam” more fuel for the fire that is their self-thrown pity party. And it never ends. MOR. TI. FY. ING.

I have a question. What was with the other two female dancers and that juke box prop? Since when are teams allowed to add other people? Yes, I know Billy Dee Williams/Emma did it, but that was a vastly different situation. Wasn’t Maks really kind of asking for trouble by doing all of that? Instead of going behind the juke box and taking off her skirt (which in itself seemed thoroughly gratuitous), she should have been dancing. And that’s just one little piece of the “extravaganza” that Maks created for Danica. I am actually beginning to agree that it was about clearing the way to make sure that it was Meryl’s night. And I’m certain he did it with Val’s consent. Didn’t one of the Chmercocky boys make a comment in the last year about just bringing the dancing, forget all that other fluff? I’m thinking it was Val but I can’t put my finger on it. In any event, I think that Maks, one way or the other, was up to no good. For sure, he did not do right by Danica.
I can see both sides, but then again it’s what we would tell the kids “Word choice matters” What Julianne was probably trying to say was what others pointed out on the board/here: “not enough jive content” (which I agree with, and she should have said that) instead what she actually said was “You phoned in this dance.” To me that sounds like “I think you bs’ed the whole thing and it all sucked.” She needs(ed) what a lot on this site have said Maks needs, to pick better words or keep quiet. First it was last season and albeit a lot have thought it, it shouldn’t have been made public(walk over after the show and tell him privately) that Mark over-dances/over-shadows his partner, and now this. I like Julianne as much as the next but she needs to work on phrasing her sentences better for judging.
Geez, it’s great to have Mad Maks back on the show. NOT! I ask myself, Just why is he back anyhow? I enjoyed being Maks-free.
I don’t think Meryl’s been drinking any koolaid. I believe she’s a sweet-natured, somewhat shy, but strong and intelligent woman. Meryl was *put* into “The Fam” by TPTB and she’s making the best she can out of it. To do otherwise would be counter-productive and self-destructive. I applaud her sensible, positive approach and respect her for it. She manages to be loyal to her partner without saying bad things about anyone else on the show. At least when she and the Chmercockys are together, there’s one mature person in the room.

Julianne actually *didn’t* say, “You phoned in this dance” – she said, “It almost *felt* like…” – and there’s a difference. She was stating what it felt like to her, and I think that’s totally valid. And I think it kind of did feel like that – whether he phoned it in or gave it his best or somewhere in between, I don’t know. It could just be he lacks the ability to really make his partners shine. But it felt like it was a lackluster effort. Of course, I think most of what he’s done with Meryl this season has also been a bit lackluster…but it’s been better than what he did with Danice.

Wow, I had no idea about death threats. Crazy indeed. I don’t own a twitter and don’t follow Maks’ stuff but that’s pretty nuts. If I had fans of that caliber, I would certainly make it known that that kind of uncouth garbage isn’t welcome in my career. Yikes!
I guess I’m just shocked at the level of ignorance. Don’t understand how something that is supposed to be entertaining and fun can make people so angry. I get that folks have favorites but the venom is just sad to me.

Listening to the whole interview Maks starts off great, intelligently describing how he worked with Danica and how after a few days he decided that maybe he should adjust to her way of working. Then comes the tossed off Julianne comment and it all goes to crap.
This is a typical Maksism, if you will. Mix a spoonful of charming with a 1/4 a cup of arrogance. It’s a shame because he is an intelligent person, he just needs a permanent filter attached to his mouth.
People use all sorts of crutches in order to hate. Religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation and now apparently which pros a person likes or dislikes on DWTS. It’s really ridiculous. If everybody agreed with everyone else it would be a bloody boring world.
When people start stalking or hating a person on the internet I wish every time they did it a low voltage electrical charge would zap them. Hopefully instigating a sort of Pavlovian response to stop being so heinous on the web.
I do still love Meryl and Maks as a couple on the show. Mostly because of Meryl.
@mishi better definition. I find that both brother’s kind of consume their partners and they become part of the larger organization of the family Chmerkovskiy. From helping promote their clothing, jewellry, dance studios etc. i think Meryl will be expected to be part of that promotion like Zendaya, Kirstie, Sherri, and more. Maybe the brothers are really charming on a personal level who knows. But their partners definitely perform for them after, as well as during, dwts. That’s what I meant.
I think it’s quite telling regarding Mak’s teaching technique that it took him that long to adjust to how his student learns… Or even, apparently, to acknowledge that someone can learn in a different way than his preferred teaching method. *sigh*
He is still complaining about that comment on ET. While we had good Maks on the show, he clearly has the need to vent about it still. Starting to look a bit nutty imo.
I’m afraid I don’t see the problem. Julianne was a little too harsh and Maks is not allowed to dissociate himself from that bad accusation? I think the produceres told her to produce a little bit of drama …and that’s it. It works. A lot of drama.

This interview on New York City Live Who are these terrible yak-a biddies interviewing Max that were just plain loud, outspoken and always talking over him….They were very annoying and I can’t see how they ever got hired. Hasn’t the Big Apple got anything better to offer?
Poor Julianne left dancing to become a big star. Well let’s see how that worked out. She can’t act,can’t sing. So now she’s down to publicity stunts like dating Ryan Sycrest,going in black face,and now back on dwts trying to get a rise out of Maks for another 15 minutes of fame.

I think Julianne is just making her career@Sandra. By the same token you could also call Maks out for some of his failed attempts at acting on General Hospital, failure at dating a high level model in Kate Upton. All this stuff is irrelevant to what happened Monday night. I think they are all grownups and Maks has faired rather well in the publicity from this. So no worries really.
I suppose you bought her album and watched all of her movies to claim that, Sandra.
