Karina Smirnoff And Slavik Kryklyvyy Dance In Dance Legends (Video, Pics)
Below are some fun instagrams and some video footage of Karina Smirnoff and Slavik Kryklyvyy dancing in Dance Legends last night in New York City. Thanks to Jim, Jessica via majjushka, and Carlos via TaniecKing for sending. Stay tuned as KarinasPerfect is writing us a review too. What a night for them…so passionate and beautiful as always!
ETA: And thanks to RoseArcana via Dance Legends, below is some highlights of the night…
Wow! They were on fire there! Hope more vids come out! Karina and Slavik were so good together.
I was hoping that someone would post a video of Slavik and Karina dancing again. It’s even the Bamboleo Paso/Samba! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched the original video on youtube.
I fell in love with them after seeing their Rumba to that orchestral music. I think that was in 2003. I still get a flutter in my heart whenever I watch that Rumba.
Slavik is a hard on his partners. If you’ve ever seen the documentary Ballroom Dancer, then you know what I mean. After Karina he jumped from partner to partner, never having the opportunity to create a real lasting partnership.
He’s also such an incredible dancer that the only partners he had that ever danced up to his level were Karina and Joanna.
It broke my heart when they split up. I’m thrilled that they got a chance to dance together again. Not only for their fans sake but for their own sake.
A million times thank you for posting this!
Such an amazing and emotional reunion! And what better event than Dance Legends! I imagine that the reunion must have been very, very special to them as well. Is this the first time they dance together on such a high caliber stage since their competing days?
I am beyond happy for Karina to be part of this. I know she is still active in the dance community, judging ballroom competitions every once in a while, but to be celebrated and recognized once again after all these years is very rewarding.
I recall an interview with Karina where she talked about how hesitant she was to join DWTS (she refused the offer at first) because in its early days the idea of the show seemed rather degrading to the form of art that ballroom dancing is. Also, many high caliber dancers go into coaching rather than entertainment. So, to see that she is still very much loved and respected is amazing!
Oh I forgot… thank you Voguerista for this post! Looking forward for its update with the review of the event.
I wish I could have been there last night. I’m so happy for Karina to be recognized as the talent she really is. I’ve always believed she’s been in a league of her own in terms of her technique compared to every other pro that’s been on the show (besides Louis or even Val)
From what I’ve heard, I think it was very emotional for both of them. I hope to see more of them together in the future (hey Slavik, do you want to come on DWTS for a number, maybe?!)
YW Anna! Hopefully, we’ll hear from her soon!
THIS^^
Jessica #5, Unfortunately Slavik currently lives in Ukraine so I don’t think we will see these 2 legendary dancers dancing together too often.:(
I often watch Karina & Slavik’s videos on Youtube. They were an awesome dance couple! 🙂
I was there last night. I can’t even begin to explain how AMAZING the whole experience was. Not only their dancing, which goes with out saying was OUTSTANDING, but also the crowd’s warmth and love coming back to them was phenomenal!! I really feel privileged to have been there. Slavik has been my favorite dancer since I started ballroom dancing about 4 yrs ago, and Karina was most definitely his best partner. They were magic back then, and even more magic now! It was SOOOO emotional. Their 1st dance was a rumba. I believe @Susan2 mentioned it above, it’s from 2003, to a slow instrumental song. 1/2 way through Slavik kissed Karina & my heart completely melted!! They both seemed so happy & appreciative of the crowd. At the end, Karina started crying in his arms. OMG…I lost it. The whole place was crying. It was magical!!! There 2nd dance was the Bamboleo number. Slavik was as amazing as ever in his Flamenco solo @ the beginning. He can just captivate the entire place with those moves….without any music…just his flamenco dancing. By the end..as you can see in the video, everyone was on their feet, clapping along. They were the only reason I went, of course I was happy to see the other couples, but the reunion of these 2 just sent me over the edge! It was an incredible night. I hope they continue to do more shows together. They both looked so happy together!!! 🙂
WOW, thank you @RoseArcana. I became emotional just reading your post. I cannot imagine how electrifying the atmosphere must have been in the theatre… with Karina crying in the arms of Slavik.
I hope we can find some YT videos of the event. They sure performed two of their most iconic dances.
Wow, RoseArcana, thanks for the review. It sure sounds like an evening to remember. I’m so pleased for Karina!
They haven’t lost a step. I’m at a loss for words. Incredible doesn’t even begin to describe it.
RoseArcana, I’m unbelievably thrilled for you that you got to see these two dance titans in person, yet also rather green with envy.
I really don’t know if I could manage to see them dance that special Rumba after all these years without blubbering like a baby.
I can’t even imagine watching Karina cry in Slavik’s arms after the Rumba. I’m so happy and grateful that she had the chance to revisit such an important part of her life.
I really love dancers of all different disciplines and Karina is in my top four along with Astaire, Suzanne Farrell and Allegra Kent.
Thanks for posting!
Thank you so much Voguerista for posting this for us.
Thank you RoseArcana for sharing your live experience. I can’t even imagine how awesome it must have been to see Karin and Slavik dancing. I’m so happy for Karina, she is such a sweetheart and a terrific dancer.
YW! 😉 And RoseArcana, thank for telling us on your awesome experience. I would have loved the Flamenco too. I really hope these two will perform in a pro number for DWTS some day. That would be so awesome.
Here’s a video of the farewell bows…
