DWTS Season 18, Week 5 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show (Spoilers)
I’m back in the saddle again…oh, wait, that’s not a Disney song. I have a feeling this damn music is going to be stuck in my head for DAYS. 🙂 Anyway, Heidi here, with the recap- as-I-feel-like-it method of blogging.
LOVED the opening number. Love. Made me happy.
Eight minutes into the show and we’ve already heard TWICE how Donny won. Once from him, once from either Erin or Tom.
I would have killed Len if he had picked on Drew for breaking hold. Pisses me OFF that their damn animation is probably dictating choreography.
Gee, Danica looked great in that preview for someone who isn’t a dancer. :::cough:::
Holy shit! Sorry john, but that’s all I can think of after Charlie’s dance. I’ll be pissed if he doesn’t get a ten or 3 – it was just a cane!
Danica’s dance was very cute! Yes, Len, she is a fantastic dance. She’s a ringer!
Okay, she was overscored, folks. Our news “story”.
I forgot to mention Cody in Jeopardy…if he’s safe tonight he will be for a while. Let’s talk riled Fanbase.
:::sob::: That was beautiful, Amy.
I really liked NeNe’s dance. Don’t know what to say about that package, but I guess Tony was honest.
I guess some fans don’t much care if they are perceived as soulless….I guess it’s good to have goals.
Wow. Great dance from James – first perfect score and he ain’t even the big ole ringer!
Meryl’s dance was well executed, but pretty uninspired compared to the rest of the dances of the night.
I wonder if NeNe’s going because they gave her such a great score.
So, Mark’s the crab? 🙂
Donny: “me me me me”
I was kind of hope they would call Candace safe right there. That would have made it exciting.
And that shocking elimination we were all wondering about? Well it happened tonight. Although it wasn’t really that shocking. I kind of wondered if Candace had a good voting Fanbase. And to all of you wondering about teenybopper fans and guys with huge Twitter following? There’s your answer.;
I really liked that opening number. Step in Time is one of my favorite Disney songs.
Can I just say how much I’m looking forward to tonight’s show? Disney Night sounds like such a great idea, I’m surprised that they haven’t done it before. I can’t remember the last time I was so excited about DWTS.
Alright so that animation during Drew and Cheryl’s dance was actually really cute and it didn’t look tacky! 😀 The dance was SO fun but yeah… technique… yikes.
That opening was absolutely delightful. Val, Derek, and Mark were adorable together. lol
PH, I agree with you, these songs will be in head for days.
I’m really upset that no one is using the creepy Lana Del Ray version of Once Upon a Dream. Maleficent is a bada**…. Something Cheryl could have pulled off.
Oh. My. Stars!!!
How I loved that opening number!!! And the new Opening with the Castle!
Loved everyone in it! The girls were gorgeous….the guys all dapper!
Loved the staircase section with Derek, Val and Mark…Derek’s stage experience just was shining through every “punctuated” step!
Am already hating that they are talking elimination before they dance…that is just too much “downer” for a Disney Night!
I loved the opening number. So fun and sweet. Probably in my top five all time favorite opening numbers. Emma looked adorable in her pink costume.
And the low balling of certain celebs scores begins! Maybe I’m senile, but I thought Drew did fairly well in that Quickstep. Usually you can drive a car between the partners hold during this dance, but they’re hold was pretty tight. He should have got eights.
Very happy drew is safe. Candace will be going home.
I’m taking a few more happy pills because I’m *already* tired of Donny “I won this show” Osmond.
OK, back to accentuating the positive…I loved the opening number too and I’ve accepted the fact that I’ll be hearing Disney songs in my head all week. Heck, Supercalafragilistic… has already been scrolling through my brain for days. So a little variety will be nice.
Looks like the dance order is following the Spotify list ABC released earlier today. If so the rest of the order is:
Candace
Nene
Amy
James
Cody
Danica
Meryl
Surprised Meryl would go last two weeks in a row.
That dance made my night. I smiled through the whole thing.
DAMN HE DROPPED THE CANE!!!
Wow, I think Charlie is climbing back to the top after that dance. That footwork, man. I’m jealous. Synchronized down to a tee.
Sharna looks awesome! She looks like Julie Andrews! I love it! It looks like they’re spreading around the Troupe Dancer Love. First with Billy, then Danica, and now Charlie. I kind of hate that they used Supercalafragilisticewhatever but it was cute.
OK tuned in late & noticed DOnnie osmond as a judge! Huh? He doesn’t dance,he sings, I think the guest judge show have some dancing experience, who’s next Marlo Lopez, anyone can judge then
The opening number was great!
There is just something about Drew that I don’t like. I mean he seems like a nice guy and all but he really can’t dance all that well. And it definitely showed in the quickstep.
And Sharna and Charlie’s Mary Poppins routine was awesome. Should have gotten the pimp spot. Best routine of the season so far. If they don’t get all 10’s then I don’t know what can…
This makes me glad Conrad Green is leaving. Have they no soul? Telling couples just before they dance whether they are in jeopardy! That is just plain ugly and is it real jeopardy or pretend jeopardy? Charlie and Sharna did great but if Len is going to “judge” them on their error…better not do it to anyone else either! And the story board continues.
I don’t care if he dropped the cane. That performance was fabulous. Loved it.
I’m *really* surprised they put Charlie second – I was expecting, giving the song and the style, that they would go near the end, if not last. So who is going last???
Ok…Sharna makes a “spot on” Mary Poppins! I loved how happy their dance was…and crazy footwork….hate that the cane dropped – but he was back in it so fast that you could have missed it!
I like Happy Len! Who knew that all it took was a dose of Disney!
That was Charlie’s best performance to date :). I think Nene, Candace or Danica will be eliminated tonight.
My god, why would Erin show Charlie dropping the cane right before their scores? Talk about ruining a great routine.
DLT, When you’re being “pimped” you get the “pimp spot”. So I’m not surprised Meryl gets that spot two weeks in a row. They needed to put her as far away from Charlie as possible hoping the Davis/White fans will forget Charlie’s performance by the time they get to Meryl.
I bet it killed Maks to have to shave! By the way, what’s up with the C-bros and their need to grow facial hair?
Looks like everyone else judged them for the dropped cane BUT LEN!! JERKS!
How did Len give Charlie and Sharna a 10 and the others didn’t? Seriously if Meryl and Mak’s non-Foxtrot can get three 10’s then Charlie and Sharna’s jazz should have gotten at least that many.
Predicted Nene and Tony and Cody and Witney would be in danger.
Meryl and Maks would make SUCH a better Belle and Beast than Danica and Val. Just sayin’.
That was good from Danica, Charlie in no form deserved a 10. Happy Nene is in trouble, she isnt getting the Derek vote. Still think Candace is gone.
Danica looked pretty damn good for someone who has no dance training…just as I figured…all of a sudden BAM! There she is….all of a sudden she ‘gets’ it!
Wow Danica did well tonight.
Wow Danicanotadancer can suddenly dance
Hmmmm so Danica not a dancer can suddenly dance…lol. It was a cute routine and he clearly can choreograph better than Maks.
Yep. She just showed up week 5.
Val and Donny’s got jokes.
Forget what I said about dance order! Guess I was wrong, oh well.
LOL, KellyK.
Dear Maks–your brother is a better choreographer than you! Time to go back to teaching strict ballroom in NYC!
The lightbulb went off over Danica’s head this week, because just as so many called it, she gets it now.
It was good but not 39/40 good…sorry I agree with Len’s score.
I’m somehow finding Val hot with curls and guyliner. Somebody just kill me now. Please.
I’m sorry, but I don’t agree with that. Charlie was so much better.
I am officially *pissed* that Danica got more 10’s than Charlie did.
WTF? How did Danica get a better score then Charlie? Wow. They are really trying to make Meryl out to be better of the two.
That got a 10 but the jazz from Charlie and Sharna didn’t….amazing…lol.
I’m so mad right now. Danica and Val did not deserve to score better than Charlie and Sharna.
Yup…count me in the pissed group!
Amy looks stunning Derek looks so handsome!
Almost looked to me at points, Derek was lugging her around, well done routine wise, but a 9.
If Amy and Derek get a better score then Charlie and Sharna then we’ll know TPTB definitely have a plan. That was a nice waltz but nothing really memorable.
That’s gonna get nailed for not enough Waltz
Wow Carrie Ann, so you won’t penalize her for something that you deduct from others?? And nice use of the smoke machine, as usual. Please stop scoring her differently than everyone else. She signed up to do the show, not to do it while being graded on a curve.
I know there’s another couple to put in jeopardy, but if it comes down to NeNe and Cody, I don’t know who I want gone more. I guess NeNe because Tony would be gone too but it’s a close call.
You know all, I can’t walk. I took an antibiotic that because the pharm company wanted to make money, they didn’t tell about the side effects. To look at Amy for just those few minutes is like thinking maybe there is hope for me. I am sorry Lizzie I have to disagree with you, that waltz was beautiful and frankly I would give almost anything to be able to stand and dance like that. That dance was remarkable.
Three 10’s. Oh pleaseeee. Count me in the pissed group too.
I loved Charlie’s dance, even though Sharna had to go and try to “tart” up Mary Poppins? Was the plunging neckline really necessary??
MelissaC #45 – I feel like Carrie Ann doesn’t like Charlie because he’s the biggest threat to her favorite, James. She hasn’t been all that pleasant to him since week 1 and it seems as though she’s been judging him a lot harder then any of the others.
Amy is someone that I want my daughter to look up to as an example of what a magnificent woman is.
Jeez, she broke my heart with her tears and frustrations. She can imagine what certain steps would have felt like with her legs and she’s can’t get anywhere near that feeling with her prosthetics. I can’t imagine how horrible that must feel.
I’m so happy Derek kept the production simple. He let Amy shine her special light.
Hey my tv just froze what was Derek and Amy’s score?
She has no feet MelissaC…so there’s gonna be things that she can’t do because she doesn’t have human feet and ankles like DanicaNotaDancer, or Meryl and Charlie the IceDANCERS.
BS Call from Donny
Have to agree with you MelissaC. She needs to be judged just like everyone else. They judge the older celebs just like the younger ones; she knew what she was getting in to when she signed up! In no way did she deserve a 10.
they got a 37..9 from each Stooge and a 10 from Donny O
I love Amy and Derek’s scores but it just makes me more mad about Charlie and Sharna’s scores.
Charlie and Sharna should’ve gotten a 40! NO DOUBT about that!
Cody and Witney’s routine is so not a samba. They will get nailed for the non-hip action.
Cody’s hips were terrible.
Thanks Kelly K. and sorry guys, but CAI has been inconsistent with her lift/no lift calls in the past, so why are u getting all hot and bothered now?
Your comments say a lot more about you Melissa, than they do anything else. The word heartless and lacking in sympathy springs to mind. Amy’s dance was the most difficult of the evening.
Donny should just stop talking.
Judged just like everyone else? You mean all those people that have 2 feet?
They’re really ticking me off. Can’t believe Charlie only got one 10. 🙁
Please, please get rid of Carrie Ann. She is seriously pissing me off.
Amy does not strike me as someone looking for sympathy. She is an athlete and a competitor. And good for her for that. I would think she would be insulted to be judged differently.
Honestly, I didn’t see Cody do any Samba style steps at all. He’s too jerky and hip hoppy.
Witney’s costume and hair reminds me of Julianne’s in her Samba with Apollo.
They’re being so generous with the scores tonight so far except for Drew. I wonder how Danica will do.
Princess Heidi – I have to disagree. Melissa has a right to her opinion and there are others who happen to agree that Amy isn’t being judged fairly (me included). That doesn’t mean we don’t sympathize with Amy, but you know, not everyone has to love her and think everything she does is inspiring.
But back to the recap, can’t believe the judges didn’t pan Cody for his non-hip action whereas Charlie got nailed for it.
well, Len let the broken hold in Drew’s Quickstep slide….CAI shouldn’t have even mentioned it if she wasn’t going to deduct points!
No way did that Samba deserve a 9 from CAI or Bruno. 8’s maybe..they’re being overgenerous with that scoring
Gee..now Tony doesn’t like NeNe bringing up Derek??? Jealous much Tony?
Derek and Amy’s dance was beautiful and her reaction to her score was priceless. We should all have her attitude and outlook.
Yeah,I’m with you Lizzie.
Of course you don’t Lizzie. You want her to be judged just like all the other dancers, because you’re afraid. Boo hoo.
Good excuses, Melissa.
Well that was an interesting package from NeNe. If she isn’t gone this week, she probably will be next week.
I always love Tom…but I am especially loving him tonight.
I have a new appreciation for Witney…really good choreography…and felt like she was doing everything to get him to do it right that she could.
Have to say – I agreed with Donny…Cody didn’t seem “sold” on the dance. That said…”Tom…please move Donny away from Bruno!”
And BAM!!!!! We knew the jealous Tony showed up LAST week…and now we saw him bring him into THIS week!~ Love Nene calling him on it! Good girl! Proud of you! Shame on Tony for making it about him!!!!!
I can’t write about Amy yet. So proud of her! If I could love Derek more…this would have done it…but the Derek Love Bucket is full already! And I love what Carrie Ann said…”I hope the next Disney Princess is like you!”
Oh my gosh – NeNe’s package – I don’t know what to say. I really don’t. She said everything that was politically incorrect but also true. Wow.
Word, Cindy. Thing is the scoring on the show has always been the dancer compared to his or herself. Not the other dancers. I didn’t see you all complaining when Maks was getting great scores for crap dances when compared to Nicole or someone else.
Well NeNe has on shoes for a change, but they are low heeled. You would think as a former stripper she would be used to dancing in heels.
I’ve been on this website for many seasons and all I can say is some of you have NO empathy. I wonder just how many of you who are soooo critical could do the same thing she has. Don’t give me the excuse that she is an athlete…I hope she wins the whole dang thing. Well I have to be quiet now because I am so angry I can’t even think.
Heidi, so happy to have you back. Love reading your comments.
Jann, “the Derek love bucket” is the funniest thing I’ve read here in a long time. I love it.
Tony doesn’t agree that NeNe working with Derek benefitted Nene? I think it DEFINITELY did! The Foxtrot was ok…not 9 worthy….but working with Derek DEFINITELY improved her skills/
Amen Butterfly! I just became a fan of NeNe Leakes! Who would have thunk it.
That said, I still hope NeNe goes home tonight. No offense to her.
Award for worst guest judge this season so far goes to Donny Osmond. I cannot stand him right now …
Amy said she wanted to be judged like all the other couples, so I see it more as an insult to her when Carrie Ann says she’s going to judge her differently. I know she has physical limitations, but so did Billy Dee (obviously to a different extent) and they didn’t ease up on him one bit. I thought the dance was beautiful, and difficult for her, but the show is about rewarding performance, not how much someone struggles with the dance.
Donny’s judging makes me want to slap him lol! Can’t stand it…
Yowsa, that was an awkward package!
Tony, you’re a twit. Carrie Ann pays you a compliment and you argue with her? And by the way, for all your talk about how Foxtrot has rules as opposed to the Jazz she had last week, I only counted about 8 bars of music actually in hold. Where’s your “rules” dude?
NeNe was fabulous. She was the right combination of haughty and sassy.
A) Donny osmond annoyed the heck outta me. Like we don’t need to hear you talk about how you’ve won. Or things you learned when you were dancing.
B) for the first time, tony totally rubbed me the wrong way.
C) I totally she’d a tear for amy 🙁
Why dont we all agree that Amy will be judged differently than the others and move on. I give her credit for just showing up and trying her best. I know we would all feel the same if the pro was Gleb or Tristan, right
Awwwww James. So sweet.
Jordin Sparks knows how to wear a dress! She looks amazing! Especially standing next to Erin. Her dress looks like a sack.
James and Peta had a beautiful dance but I just hate that song so much. After hearing it multiple times a day, I think I’m about to pull all my hair out.
I thought Peta’s dancing was so harsh…but I guess because she was an Ice Queen?? I don’t know…it was alright.
That was an awesome job by James! I had no idea who he was before the show, but have really enjoyed watching him and Peta. And how sweet is he to bring that young lady to the show.
I’m liking James more each week. That was a beautiful dance.
Of course, Lea – they would absolutely feel the same way if the pro was Maks. Right.
Oh I’m so done with this show. Perfect score? C’mon. This show is sinking to new lows.
How the hell did James and Peta get a perfect 40????? Now I’m more pissed then ever.
Hmm I think Jordin Sparks will be on next season.
Compared with how they’re scoring everyone else, I think Drew was underscored. Trying to send him home next week?
And while I think James and Peta did a great job, I’m not sure that I think that was a perfect score. However, I’d rather have him at the top of the leader board than Danica.
Courtney is saying they just did a star lift which most pairs ice dancers can’t even do. Waves to Charlie and Meryl.
I thought James and Peta were gorgeous! I so didn’t expect to love him like I do when the season began…but his work ethic and performances have totally won me over…and I feel like he brings a softness out in Peta which makes me enjoy her too!
So glad James got the first perfect score.
OMG! Charlie gets all my votes when Amy gets voted out. He’s amazing.
I do wish they had *some* guidelines on technical style. It seems that they are judging production values only. There is no way Nene’s foxtrot resembled a foxtrot.
Heidi, for the record, I am not a Maks fan at all. There has never been anyone paired with him that I pulled for. I really could not stand Mel B, Erin or Hope.
I’m liking Witney this season.
James is a sweetie and Hannah is one lucky girl.
Errrrr….that wasn’t very good (Meryl) compared to the rest of the dancers. Weird. Of course the judges will love it. It just seemed uninspired compared to several others. I guess if she gets tens we’ll know she needs protecting.
Donnie also commented on Maks needing to tone it down. Guess Julianne wasn’t wrong.
I’m with you Heidi…I’m still sending all my votes to Amy…but that bumper by Charlie brought back my childhood memories of Dick Van Dyke dancing with the penguins…love him and his playful spirit!
The overhead presage lift James did with Peta was incredible. My mouth literally fell open.
The Maks and Meryl Samba was a much better effort choreography wise than their previous dances. I thought Meryl got the Samba bounce down really well.
Maks looks better clean shaven.
I feel like James and Peta were way overscored because they were dancing to the song from Frozen, and Frozen is the biggest Disney movie right now. Not surprised they would want to promote the hell out of it. Just sort of surprised it didn’t get the pimp spot. Though I guess maybe Candace is going home after all if she’s going last and we all know she won’t have the best dance of the night.
PH -I wasn’t bringing up anyone. I purposely used pros we all like. I just was saying I would hope we would all support Amy as much with any pro.
I think trying to read into the judging is fruitless. They’re about as consistent as the weather. This is the worst I’ve seen judging.
Maks needs to quit monkeying around. Haha. Get it? But I agree, he needs to go see Louis about beginnings and endings. He’s horrible at those.
Glad Amy and Derek got better scores than Meryl and Maks! HA!
Now I really hope Candace and Mark KILL this Samba and she’s safe! I voted my arse off for her last week!!!
I loved Candace and Mark’s Samba. Lots of basic Samba steps. I haven’t been this impressed with her since week 1. I hope it’s not too late.
I liked it! Glad she let her “Conservativism” go and wore the appropriate costume for the dance!
Appropriate scores! Sad that they’re in jeopardy. :/
Candace and Mark were just adorable and were very fun to watch.
I hope Candace doesn’t go home. She’s having so much fun and really wants to be there. It would be a shame.
All things considered, I think Amy deserves a better score than Meryl. There just wasn’t much to Meryl’s dance. Except a lot of screwing around right beginning. Again.
So glad the judges only gave Meryl and Maks 9s. It was cute but very simplistic!
Come on Candace be safe.
Yeah PH I’m with you on Charlie if Amy leaves. I am just shocked (and I don’t know why aft watching for long)but I feel like I have whiplash from the scoring. Hate somebody one week and LOVE them the next. I thought Peta and Charlie got hosed last week but the moves tonight, way too harsh and staccato, a 40 !!!
And I don’t get it about Amy. As you said, it tends to be about each story and journey and what she’s is doing is incredible. I guess some people will judge her by comparing her to Danika, the person with over 15 yrs of ballroom training but I don’t believe that is how most who are voting judge her performances. And Derek ! my god I did not think I could love or respect him more. I was wrong. To me this is like the empathy and care he took with Jennifer Grey x100. I thought then it just showed so much maturity to handle that serious of responsibility at 23 yrs old but now I know that it was also that he just genuinely cares and becomes invested when people have a struggle but really want to do their best.
And Tony just disgusting and childish.
Woah…didn’t see THAT coming BUT I’m not sorry to see him go….sad for Witney but Cody could care less.
Good now the annoying Cody fangirls in the audience can finally shut up. Guess those six million twitter followers didn’t exactly help him after all. Though I do hope Nene and Tony are the next to go.
Yeah, now can NeNe and Tony can please leave next week?
those reverse shadow rolls in Meryl and Maks’ dance…whoa. nice. I thought Maks could have come up with better choreo, and I thought the 9’s were fair. But the judges really have to stop itchin for those 9 and 10 paddles…NeNe geting 4 9’s? Sorry Mrs Leakes, but that was a little cringe-worthy.
I like james and hope he wins, but 10s…. overscoring much???
What happened with Cody? He was one of my favorites. I can’t believe he was eliminated. He had potential. I thought he had a good fan base?
It’s disheartening, Raine, that people can’t see beyond the “competition” to just marvel at what Amy and Derek overcome each week…and then have the nerve to say it’s just a dancing show. Excuse me, but we’re the ones that are enjoying the journey, not you. You’re the one getting wrapped up in the judging on someone that has no feet. Yes, it is just a dancing show, so sit back and wonder at what this woman is able to do. With NO feet.
I couldn’t dance that good and I have two perfectly good legs. that’s for sure. She’s got a killer ass because of how she has to balance herself on those two thighs she has. It’s impressive she was even able to learn to walk again..a lot of double amputees don’t. Plus she’s just absolutely beautiful!!
Wow! That routine that Charlie and Sharna did was just amazing. I can’t believe he pulled it off this week when they had to do SOI in 3
different cities. Too bad he dropped the cane.
Amy was amazing and she connects her soul out on that floor. By comparison, Danica’s dance was professional but I have completely forgotten it because she just doesn’t connect to the audience. At least I don’t feel it. Forget about the pros, fan bases etc., Amy leaves her soul on the floor and that is beyond a score imo.
So they underscored Drew and overscored NeNe – I guess they’re trying to get rid of him. However, they saw how that worked just now, right? Of course, they may not have been trying to get rid of Candace. I think Drew might have a big enough fanbase to pull past NeNe – it will depend how people are perceiving her now. The dance was really fun, and she totally sold it…but the package was a little awkward, even if it *was* the truth.
Whoa…was NOT expecting that. I figured Cody would last at least another week. Oddly enough this was probably the first night I didn’t mind him.
Seeing Candace standing there with him made me realize how much I don’t want to see her go though. She’s probably going to get my votes from now on. It’s amazing how James actually makes me not mind Peta, I’m really liking him a lot.
While I thought Danica’s dance was very good and probably her best as far as overall performance I just can’t get behind her. The overly excited energy and the judges saying she suddenly discovered ballroom, etc…girl has had enough training to questions Maks on steps and know them by name.
Judy +1
man i’m still thinking about tony’s really poor attitude.
And I’m not too surprised that Cody left – I thought it might be him, if it wasn’t NeNe.
I don’t think he connected with the average viewer, and he came across as having a bit of an attitude. I’m glad Witney had a chance to shine last week with Drew.
And thus the third attempt to recreate Julianne was just as unsuccessful as the first two.
I would have went absolutely bonkers if I had to listen to that Supercali….. song all week long.
My hidden gem this season… is Drew Carey.
I’m really surprised that Cody was eliminated. I wanted to see more of Witney.
Could not disagree more, Lindsey. I think Whitney did a great job, especially last week with Drew. Being eliminated early isn’t that big of a reflection on her.
Loved that Charlie was the first celebrity (in my memory) to do a commercial filler since they went to the one program/week format (dance with the penguins)! Kudos to him.
When James jumped over Peta while simultaneously bringing his feet together and pointing his toes, I told my wife that could result in a 10 for attention to detail- and he got 4 of them! I think he’s a Kellie Pickler type of dark horse, improvement all the time from no real previous dance experience!
And now I’m posting after the elimination. I think everybody in the place expected Candace – but it was Cody. I feel bad for Witney more than Cody.
My respect for Derek really grows when you see the little details he has to work out for Amy that would just be taken for granted – like a pivot on her “toes”. Way to go for them.
Nah, I disagree with you Lindsey. I think that it was just Cody being way apathetic that led to them being eliminated, among some things. I thought Witney was awesome with Drew and was really able to connect with him. I think she has a great spark as a pro, and I was really sad to see her leave 🙁
But yeah I don’t think anyone can really live up to Jules.
Agreed, Judy. She’s touching me more than any other dancer ever has. I just want her to keep trying every week.
I figured Candace was going. They are promoting Danica and were giving Candace low scores last week. Also I wonder if Charlie will start getting higher scores – saving his “growth” for later in the season. Although I imagine tptb didn’t see James being a front runner so it is more up for grabs between those two maybe?
I think Witney did a STELLAR job with Drew and deserves another chance as a Pro! Cody came off a bit as a spoiled brat who could’ve cared less about being there, it’s like he was only there to promote his album on the advice of his Publicist.
If anything, tonight just goes to show 1) Twitter followers does NOT equal votes & 2) You have to vote to keep your favorite in.
Cody did not get the votes plain and simple.
I saw more Samba in Candace & Mark’s routine than I did all night.
Amy….no words.
At least Tony finally admitted Derek makes him insecure. I still think Hell froze over because I’m defending Tony. Plus the camera going to Derek OVER AND OVER during Tony and Nene talking does not help.
Heh heh Maks naturally sparkles…made me think of Edward from twilight.
And that was Be a Jackhole to Drew Week on DWTS in a nutshell. I mean Disney Week 😉
Lea, I am itching to respond to your first tweet, but I don’t want to violate this blog’s terms. Unbelievable!
Not tweet, comment, sorry. I am seeing red LOL.
Witney was good, but she won’t be their next Julianne. I’ll take her over Lindsay any day though.
Final thoughts:
Happy and surprised to see Candace stay. Even though I haven’t been too fond of her in the past few weeks I still think she has room for improvement.
Didn’t think James and Peta deserved the 40. Like I said earlier, I feel they only got it cause they danced to the Frozen song. If they had danced to something else they would have gotten nines.
Meryl and Maks were entertaining but I just don’t care much for Maks’ choreography. Still probably one of their more fun routines so far this season.
I feel like Charlie and Sharna had the best performance of the night and were robbed of a perfect score because the judges are stubborn and underscored him for the drop of the cane (either that or TPTB don’t want him to do better then Meryl). Good on Len for understanding that the cane was just a prop and not the most important part of the dance.
Felt like it was time for Cody to go home. He seems like a good kid, but I just don’t really connect with him. And the stupid tween girls in the audience screaming for him every week annoyed me.
Hoping that Nene and Tony go next week! Then followed by Drew and Cheryl.
PH, a follow-up to your #136
Our oldest son shattered both ankles in an accident, putting him in a wheel chair chair for 77 days, then crutches and a lot of rehab for a long time. Thanks to a fantastic surgeon and a lot of metal, he is now close to normal. But during the recovery period, to see all the things we take so “far granted” that he had to work out, or work around, was sobering and daunting.
And here is Amy who has conquered the loss of her legs, to be a world class athlete plus what she is learning to do on the dance floor – that is phenomenal. I can see why Derek has said this is his most challenging season ever. Hats off to both of them!
I’m so pleased Candace made it through to next week, she earned it; and while I’ll never really like NeNe, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for her for showing the DWTS audience was a small, insecure, jealous person Tony really is!
I’m gutted that Charlie and Sharna didn’t get the spotlight they deserved for that great jazz routine. Hope that means he’s absolutely killing it in viewer votes and TPTB need to prop everyone else. At least they got Len’s first 10 — and he was the only one to figure out that dropping the cane was just background noise that could happen on any given night to anyone.
Amy and Derek, I can’t even talk about them. What they do every week is pure Disney — incredibe hard blood, sweat and tears in the rehearsal studio that they turn into Magic on the dancefloor on Monday night!
Witney is Witney – and she is very good. I’ve enjoyed watching her dance since her SYTYCD days – and yes, way better than Lindsay.
Interesting scoring. I tend to fast forward through the judges deliberations, but I hope they praise Amy for her expressiveness when dancing. She is just wonderful in so many ways.
Charlie is too darn cute. James and Peta were great. Their star lift was great. It’s amazing how pairs skater do that it on ice while in rotation.. FYI ice dancers can’t do that lift because rules prohibit male dancers from extending their hands above their head during the lift. Meryl’s samba was a let down song and choreography wise.
I LOVED Witney this season! Regardless of the early elimination, I felt she left a more lasting impression on me than Lindsay did with Victor.
I admire Amy and the hard work she puts into learning these dances. She portrays the emotions of each dance so well. I got goosebumps just watching her waltz. Honestly, I wonder if the people giving her a hard time would be singing the same tune if she had been paired with any other male pro.
I’m glad Cody was the one eliminated. Other than his cha cha, I didn’t really connect with any of his other dances.
I’m very happy that Candace was safe. I thought for sure that she would be eliminated tonight after being at the bottom of the leaderboard last week. I’m glad she’s back with Mark and I thought their dance was great. I felt like she was able to let go and just have fun. I hope she continues to improve and do well in the competition.
Meryl really impressed me last week, but I was underwhelmed by her dance with Maks tonight. After that awesome Argentine Tango with Val, I think that’s who she should have been paired up with from the start.
Tony’s jealousy towards Derek was on full display in the package with Nene. He acted so childish there as well as during judging with Carrie Ann. If anything, he should be grateful that Derek helped Nene improve her dancing skills.
Speaking of Derek, I think he’s doing a great job with Amy. Their dance tonight was beautiful and her package was very moving. It was sad to see how much she was struggling during the week, but I was happy that she was able to get through it. She is truly inspiring.
Meryl and Maks’ samba was so cute! Those shadow rolls looked AMAZING. Rooting for those two :’)
Well, I’m back at posting during this recaps! I looved the theme, thank God for Disney!
After tonight’s performances I’m really looking for a Amy/James/Charlie/Meryl finale, with Candace or Drew having a chance if the fanbases help them through.
Aaaand, after that childish attitude that Tony did, I’m really looking forward for what Suri has to say in the Aftershow. The downfall of the stepchild of La Familia!
Shame first week I tolerated Cody and he gets eliminated. Well his goal for self promotion was achieved anyway.
Derek and Amy—pure tears and heartfelt
Wow I have read/seen everything now–can’t find anything wrong with a dance so we blame the song for why all 10’s …unbelievable!!!!
PH, I agree with your #160. Do you think they will give Jenna a shot before Witney gets another celeb? I think she deserves it.
When I look at all three of the recent SYTYCD girls, I wonder if they pinch themselves several times a week that they are there “living the dream” at there age?
Look, I’m going to preface this comment about Amy by saying my grandmother lost a leg. My grandmother was watching with me and she’s not much of a typer so I am filling in. To quote (my grandmammy): “the reason they have Olympics and Para-Olympics is that it’s not fair to the physically-challenged to compete against people who are not. You cannot make someone with no legs equal to someone with legs, however much you want to. Amy has done well and her story brings tears to my eyes but the other contenders must be applauded for their talent as well.” My grandmother is 98 and lost a leg to polio and she has never let it stop her from doing things everyone else does. But, she doesn’t begrudge those with two feet just because they have two feet. Let’s be happy for all who are participating and not scold the people who think Amy should be judged by the rules of the contest. She is doing well but reaching her limit; there is no shame in that, only joy. I love watching her and the package made me cry but I do think, when we are comparing the progress of dancers against themselves and not other dancers, that others are also achieving personal bests.
Oops – My #166 – the “she” in the third sentence is Witney, not Jenna.
Heh….somebody is going to disagree with Courtney’s rankings, I suspect. 😀
I can’t take Donny Osmond, I just can’t. He was the worst guest judge ever. Derek and Amy were so beautiful! I loved their dance. I was really surprised that Cody went home tonight, because of his teen fan base. But PH was right on obviously today when she said twitter followers don’t equal votes. Tony, just ugh. His attitude makes me ill.
Okay, my grandma wants me to clarify that she is “97 and a half” 🙂
Harriett, I agree, Charlie is just too damn cute for words!
Thank you for pointing out the limits place on lifts for ice dance couples. I was an avid skating fan for decades up until the mid 2000s. James and Peta’s star lift was lovely but completely verboten in ice dance. As you said, the rules for lifts are radically different between ice dance and pair skating which is one reason why the men in pairs are often so much taller than their partners (the tragically great Gordeeva and Grinkov come to mind). When I see Meryl and Maks together, I immediately think, “pairs team”. LOL
Amen Lee, and I glad your son is doing well. I can’t even imagine what it is like to be Amy. I don’t feel sorry for her, I’m AMAZED by her. I just don’t know if I could approach life the way she has after what she’s gone through. And remember, not only did she lose two legs and a kidney, but she also has extensive hearing loss in one ear. She may have completely lost hearing in one ear, not sure. It’s just amazing. And I think of all the people who have lost limbs over the last ten years in various wars – they see her and see that it can be done. She’s hope.
I’m super happy there wasn’t a waltz to “A whole new world” or “tale as old as time,” lol. I would have loved to see a contemporary or
Val is my fav and I thoroughly enjoyed he and Danica’s performance. Doesn’t hurt that Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie of all time haha. And I honestly am not too concerned about the ringer stuff; she’s not even beasting it like someone with her experience would be expected to. Ok enough of that. I definitely like this couple, though and they have great chemistry.
Derek and Amy are absolutely beautiful together and I know this dance was so hard for her. That being said, I wasn’t a huge fan of it. But I’m so happy she’s on the show kicking butt. Carrie Ann’s comment was a bit weird, though. I don’t think calling out the lift then ignoring it was the best thing to do.
I reallly liked Charlie and Sharna’s dance and if I didn’t read comments about the cane (I’m just now watching videos online) I probably would have missed it because he handled that so seamlessly, just like a professional would. WHY did they have to replay that moment though?? -_-
Drew and Cheryl were cute. Weird score transitions though…3 8s and a 9 last week to 4 7s this week and I didn’t see a huge difference in the dances but I’m also not a professional so hey.
There’s no way Witney didn’t get her look from Julianne from Apollo’s samba…no way. That’s too weird to be a coinydink lol. I am a fan of her. Wasn’t a huge fan of the samba though. Teeny bopper Twitter-critters don’t vote for shows like this…this is for an older demographic and I don’t get why folks think a lot of social media presence always equals votes. I think it was a good experience for him, though and I’m glad he did it. Lots of learning to do for young Cody 🙂
Wasn’t a huge fan of Meryl and Maks’ samba but I am a fan of them together.
I am happy Candace is still here but I can tell this is super hard for her. I would love to see her completely let loose and not be nervous but I know it’s hard…I guess you can be famous but if you’re not used to live television that’s another animal. She has a lotttt of fans in this show’s age range and I think she’s very relatable, especially amongst middle aged mothers who are inspired by her. And I have no problem with her ‘conservatism,’ which I honestly don’t think is that conservative to be honest. Some words people just freak out over and this is one of them. She was the only one I liked equally with her switch up partner and her original partner and that could be because she’s just really enjoying the experience, and wants to stay to enjoy it. I want to see her really bring it.
I was totally cringing during Nene and Tony’s package. I didn’t really know who Nene was before this show but I’d heard a lot about her and I guess I saw it tonight for the first time. Not a fan of the way she was acting in terms of walking out with a potty mouth.. .and it totally totally brought me back to those terrible middle and high school days where chicks with attitudes said whatever they wanted and ruined your day. However I could tell she was speaking the truth about Tony being jealous and insecure. I’m definitely not upset with him for having those emotions because he is human, but I would have liked to see them channeled into something productive “like ok let’s see what Derek showed you” and that’s that.
James is my favorite guy and I really wouldn’t mind him winning the whole darn thing…we can see him grow week to week, which really captures the show’s essence. And he’s actually good. Not sure about the 40 but it was a really great dance and he is a breath of fresh air.
Enjoyed the Val, Derek, Mark trio. Mark is growing on me a whole lot.
katiebearnugget — tell your grandma, for me, she’s an amazing woman and damn straight for not wanting those extra 6 months tacked onto her age before she’s lived them!
I appreciate and respect her perspective. As much as we try to understand…those of us who’ve been blessed to keep our legs, don’t really know what it’s like not to have them.
This is my very first week of being able to see the WHOLE show when it aired live!!! No time to comment much now, but I must say….
HATE the blatant UNDERSCORING of some of the couples, and REALLY HATE the blatant OVERSCORING of other couples. Not sure if anyone was actually scored correctly.
I was going to go through the screen and SLAP Carrie Ann if she had docked Amy and Derek for a lift, and at the same time, I knew that the usual DerekHaters would be out and pitching some royal fits about how “the producers just love Derek and he always gets away with everything”….. And I cried seeing Amy cry, both times. I think Tom did too.
I am PROUD of NeNe, for what she said in her package, and I REALLY don’t think it reflected well on Tony. His DerekHate showed loud.
Glad NeNe had some shoes this week, but I am just waiting for her to get called out for not wearing proper footwear, but I KNOW that it will never come. Leah didn’t wear proper footwear EVER last season. The rest of the rant that wants to come out and spew will be swallowed……
a.) I forgot Amy had no legs tonight, and
b.) If Amy truly were scored like everyone else, she’d be getting all 10’s, because what she is doing is much HARDER and requires more athleticism than everyone else.
She and Derek were the highlight of the night for me.
Call me crazy, but Tony didn’t bother me too much. He straight up said he was insecure – that takes a much bigger man than any of the C-bros bullshit attitudes do. As for his reaction during and after the judging – I would have to watch it again, but my feeling was that they were both (Tony and NeNe) were devastated by the package that was shown more than anything else. I don’t blame them. Like I said, I’m RARELY in the position of defending Tony and I’ll have to watch it again to be sure.
LOL Kim – I was thinking the same thing. Yeah, those judges sure are swayed by a song that everyone is sick to death of. Riiiight. James is a kick ass dancer. Wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Meryl get left out of the final three in favor or James, Charlie and either Danica or Amy. Danica is a ringer, but Val did right by her tonight, as did Peta for James. Charlie and Sharna?? OMG – that was amazing. So blazing fast!! Then look at Meryl’s dance. THAT is why I keep harping on Maks’ choreo. As of right now, Meryl deserves a spot in the finale only if Maks can match Val’s choreography.
My grandmother lost both her legs from diabetes and sat on her butt in a wheelchair bemoaning her life was over until the day she died seven years later.
So, no I don’t get the calling Amy out for being judged differently thing.
She walks on two pieces of metal and plastic that DO NOT PIVOT, she can’t point her toes. She can’t do what the others celebs can. So you’re saying forget personal growth, forget her own journey and just stop trying because all the other dancers can do those things? Because that is what it sounds like to me. If you go back and look at this thread that is how it reads.
When you have a disability the day you stop doing ANYTHING because someone says you shouldn’t is the day you stop living.
I’m hormonal and a bit inflamed because my Endo is flaring again so I might be overly touchy but this whole conversation about Amy being judged differently is not fair sounds a whole lot like Amy getting judged period.
You are seeing things that aren’t there, Katie. NO ONE who loves Amy is disregarding the other dancers or not also praising them. On the contrary. Those criticizing Amy are not finding any “joy” in it at all. Again – on the contrary. I think you need to direct your comments at them and DO NOT tell me who not to scold.
Er….good thing this isn’t an ice dancing competition? :::confused:::
PH, Meryl dererves a spot in the finals — Maks doesn’t — and therein lies the rub. However, I’ll take Mediocre Maks over Non-dancer Danica in the finals, every Monday from now until next year!
I don’t know if I liked Disney night. In some ways it worked, in others…it didn’t. HOLY overscoring, for one thing…
The Jungle Book Samba was my least favorite dance for Meryl and Maks so far, largely due to the song. Now, I know it’s been said that Meryl didn’t want to be a princess, as it was expected, but that song was all wrong for the samba. Couldn’t TPTB at least have allowed the Big Voodoo Daddy version? The Disney version was so limiting. I mean they still had fun with it and there was good content, but it definitely could have been much more.
Charlie and Sharna were so much fun! I don’t even care that he dropped his cane, it made no difference to me. Though, I was surprised to see a 10 because of it. But he’s just so charming and he’s great.
Nene needs to go. That is all.
I’m not surprised that Cody was eliminated; last week I was following one of Kristyn Burtt’s Twitter conversation that was discussing the Facebook portion of the votes (in some way or other) that indicated Cody and Nene were in voting trouble. But I am sorry to see Witney eliminated, I especially like her after how wonderful she was with Drew last week. Cody was just too keen on making every dance “Cody.” I mean sure you want to show your personality, but he needed to do that AND get the technique down.
I really liked James and Peta’s contemporary, but I didn’t think it deserved a perfect score. The choreography definitely seemed more centered on Peta, which does actually make sense with the song to me. But the song and choreography should have been more about James. I’m really enjoying him; I had never heard of him before this show but I definitely think he’ll make it to the finals.
Amy is one I look forward to every week, but I didn’t like the dance tonight. She said herself she wants to be scored like everyone else. The physical challenges she faces with these dances are incredible and she impresses me so much, but it wasn’t there for me tonight.
So, when is Danica’s prior dance experience going to come up? NotaringerDanica danced far too well tonight to truly be an amateur.
PH, sorry…my bad. I got distracted from the topic at hand by my former obsession with ice skating….squirrel…
Cidra, it’s funny you say Meryl and Maks remind you of a pairs team (I totally see it) because Maks reminds me of a lot of the current Olympic pairs champ Maksim Trankov. Both guys have some diva-ish personality with fabulous partners.
Witney was a great addition this season. I wasn’t a fan of her dancing on SYTYCD for some reason (but that has changed since her move to DWTS), and I think she found a better fit on DWTS if that makes sense. If they bring her back next season, I wonder if they will pair her with someone like Drew or some young Disney-ish kid.
I dunno, Cidra. I can’t stand Val, but I really liked Danica’s dance tonight – about a thousand times better than Meryl’s. Of course it’s not her fault, but as I’ve been saying for years – the celeb and pro are a package deal. Maks is responsible for the choreo. I actually like Maks a good deal better than Val – but he ain’t bringing it. Val is. As they are both ringers, I have to give the edge to Danica right now.
Does it bug me that the show is saddling Meryl with the “experience label” over Danica the equally skilled?? Yup. It also bugs me that Meryl hasn’t been hosed like Charlie or other great dancers before her (Nicole). Waddaya gonna do?
Still bugs me that Danica won’t come clean on her Ballroom background! Hopefully Candace continues to improve on her footwork and such. I’d hate to see her go before NeNe or Drew.
One more thing I’m not understanding here…who cares what lifts they can and can’t do in ice dancing or pairs or whatever….they aren’t ice dancing James did it and did it DARN well!!! what are we trying to imply here that since it’s not allowed in ice dancing that’s why they haven’t done it? Not like James has been randomly lifting people up like that for years–he had to learn it just like they can. Sorry very proud of him tonight 🙂 momma bear coming out.
Derek should be able to lift carry and do whatever else he wants to Amy she’s pure inspiration and he is beyond amazing!
I think Cher should be my sistah. 😀
@Cidra As Tom Called it this evening “It’s Dancing on Ice with no ice!”
@PH after tonight I think I get Tony now and why he is the way he is. He even said it during his package interview. He’s insecure about being a lesser dancer than Derek. My advice to Tony would be, stop competing with him and learn from him. I kind of have a bit of newfound respect for Tony for being man enough to admit that.
I have to say that I am not a Meryl and Maks fan (I have disliked Maks ever since that season with Hope) but wow “I wanna be like you” is a terrible samba song. “Under the Sea” was more like a Samba song. The choreography was not good for Meryl and Maks, but for once I don’t blame him too much. Meryl executed the samba moves well though (those reverse shadow samba rolls ~~). I think Meryl can be a big contender because she can do latin pretty well. I remember Evan from season 10 had trouble with latin dances because of the hip action. She of course would be an even bigger threat if she got better choreography… *cough Maks cough* But ugh DWTS, get your act together about the song choices!
Charlie was great, but he was dancing off the music a little bit and he dropped the cane. It’s really hard to have a prop in dance because if you drop it, you can’t just say “well if I didn’t drop it, then it would have been perfect”… Props for getting the 10 from Len though! Charlie, you are amazing for recovering so well and I hope to see you go far!
Pleasantly surprised about Danica. She was really good!
Gosh, Peta and James’ dance was good, but a perfect 40?!?! Overscored. Amy and Derek should have gotten a 40 for their contemporary then!! ~huffs
I liked the fog in Amy and Derek’s routine, but I wish it was only in the beginning! I wanted to see more of her amazing footwork that was covered up by the fog! Can’t believe what Derek is able to bring out of Amy. Fantastic.
Did anyone else think that the scoring was super erratic? I mean, Nene’s not-a-foxtrot was not on the same level as Meryl’s samba (even though it was a little bland, she had good technique at least).
Well said Judy (#139) … Amy does leave her heart and soul out there on the floor… and that is what makes her amazing to me.
LOL, Harriett, it must be something in the name!
Yeah, PH, I’m kind of caught between a rock and a hard place myself in the Meryl/Maks, Danica/Val foursome. That’s the one switch-up I might have voted to keep intact.
So I’ve decided the hell with both the Chmercocky’s and their partners, I’m voting for Charlie (the sweet dork who either gets nit-picked to death or overlooked by the judges).
@Kim (#189) Side conversations triggered by something that happens on the show do occasionally happen. No sly dig at James was intended by it (at least not by me).
Eh, gotta disagree – give Charlie a perfect score. James got one and his dance was beautiful, but not nearly as hard. Sure, charlie dropped a cane – but how many times did he toss it? A dozen times or more? I think Len was right on that one. Losing three points for that dropped cane is ridiculous when you consider EVERYTHING that went into that routine. Meryl’s dance wasn’t even close to it, yet she was only a point down from him.
See, here we are comparing dancers to each other and finding that it’s not fair. Imagine that. LOL. And yet, some want to single out Amy. Charlie had the hardest dance of the night and was every bit as good as James or Danica, yet he was below both of them.
Seems like a pretty reasonable solution to me, Cidra. If Amy gets eliminated, I think that’s who I’m going with as well.
Wow, what a show!!! I liked them all in different ways. Derek and Amy, Charlie and Sharna, and Danica and Val were my top three favorites tonight.
Wow. Just a few quick points
*Tony is an (slang for donkey)
*Was Val the beast or the prince? I couldn’t tell
*Suddenly liking James
*Also liking NeNe, but it makes me torn. I’d like her to stay over Drew (seriously dude, close your darn mouth) but I want Tony gone very far away.
I hate the fact that, yet again, Maks is playing a showmance to get people to vote for them. He’s got a professional dancer for a partner. He shouldn’t need to do that. And while I’m sure the Meryl fans love it and are totally buying into it, I’ve watched Maks too many seasons to think this is anything more than it was with any of the other partners he was all kissy-kissy huggy-huggy with. A lame ploy for votes.
@PH #107, I’m not quite sure if you were informed correctly or not about the types of lifts Meryl and Charlie performed in their ice dancing competitions. In figure skating Pairs lifts are always overhead lifts, and Ice Dance lifts are never above the shoulders, a star lift is an overhead lift & is only done in the pairs competitions. Meryl and Charlie never performed a star lift because they are ice dancers not pair skaters & their lifts could never be above the shoulders (but I’m sure they’re physically capable of a star lift, their pull-through curve lift in their Scheherazade free dance was incredibly difficult and took a lot of physical strength).
sigh…this is why I don’t post much. Even a 97 1/2 grandmother with one leg can get chastised. I was just trying to type her opinion.
I think all the dancers are giving the best, except the one that went home so I’m okay with Cody leaving. My grandmother doesn’t think the other posters are judging Amy and not judging the other dancers. She was just trying to say that she feels belittled when people compare her to those with two legs. Kind of like how people say “you look great…for having kids! Can’t you just say I look great? Yet, at the same time, you did have two kids so be realistic. My grandma doesn’t have much of a filter at her age but I find her honesty refreshing. Trust me, it was hard to take the post-pregnancy comment when she said it to me!
We both love Amy and balled our eyes out at her package and her dance was lovely. But I do think she was outshined tonight. I did like James and Charlie’s dances..so much fun but in different ways. And I even liked Meryl’s dance. It was fun and I felt myself bopping along. I’m sure my girls will love it when they get to watch it tomorrow night (10pm is a little late for a 4 and 6 yr old)
I’d like to see Meryl, Charlie and James in the final three. I think those would be interesting free styles to say the least!
Sigh. The inconsistent judging has me at an all-time boil tonight. Am I surprised? NO. But yet I allow this to heat me up as it does!
As much as I enjoy Disney music, I didn’t think many of the songs were appropriate for the dances the couples were given – ex: Max & Meryls dance.
I wish CAI wouldn’t have called Derek & Amy out on the lift issue at all b/c then people can say “well you deducted Charlie for the drop of the cane” etc..
I enjoyed the props, troupe dancers, etc but I could have done without the CGI animation. I think it forced the pros to incorporate choreography (that wasn’t always appropriate for the dance or the moment) and broke up the routine that made it feel less than seamless. Example – Drew & Cheryl and Meryl & Maks – hated the animation in both their dances.
Not only are we comparing dancers coming form totally different places and life experience to each other, we’re comparing totally different dances — jazz, contemporary, waltz, samba, quickstep. It’s booo-gusss as all hell.
PH, I’ve got my fingers crossed that (barring shady shennanigans from Lord Conrad and Co) we’ll see both Amy and Charlie duking it out in the finals which would be a win-win for me!
I’m good with Charlie winning the whole thing IF Amy doesn’t or Candace gets eliminated.
I don’t know if it is the whole way her dance experience came out. I kind of want to like Danica and then I kind of don’t really want to all at the same time.
Urm…I saw no Shadow rolls in the Meryl/Maks routine, Sarah C.
@PH we already extended fam girl 😉
What a shocker. The guy who trained in ballroom for months before he came on the show gave Danicawhoisnotadancer a 10
I loved the Disney night.
Loved the couples costumes.
Loved their dances.
Could have done without the “phone in” jokes.
And the talking and self bragging guest judge.
Loved all the Disney props and the music went better this week.
Some of the celebrates did so much better.
One brought tears but not sympathy….rather happy tears.
Not sure I agreed with the judges scoring.
But, I look forward to seeing more good dancing next Monday.
Cidra…my grandma says “spot on” in regards to your “age support”. She swatted me over the head with her fan (yes, fan!) about saying “98”, lol!
After Candace’s 28 last week, and Drew’s 28 this week, I would not want to go first next week
Man I hate getting home from work late and the hubby’s dutifully “watching” DWTS. Not really. He was mowing the yard.
The one big surprise for me tonight was the opening number. Just knew it would be “It’s a Small World”, thank you to the Muppets for not going there. And yes, I probably stand alone with my dislike for that song.
Tony must live in Small World. Very rude to NeNe–would not even look at her during the critiques. How cheesey of The Muppets as they continually cut-away to get Derek’s reaction. He’s the PRO, remember? He ain’t gonna give you nothin’, absolutely nothin’.
Could not watch Danica & Val. Be My Guest is my all time favorite Disney song. Lumiere where art thou?
Other than that you guys–the mods the posters–have done a great job recapping the evening.
Regarding the inept judging: IT’s DISNEY NIGHT so they just—LET IT GO…and judged everyone how they pleased (as usual)!
Starting to believe in the storyboard conspiracy theory, too!
Hey, hey…Amy and Derek are up next on NIGHTLINE. Found a reason to stay up a wee bit longer.
Enjoy the ECLIPSE everyone and have a good week!
I meant pairs skating, not ice dancing….but either way, is it that important?
I ended up liking James’ dance a lot more after watching it a second time. I thought he did great, but the cut of the song seemed weird to me. It broke up the feel of the dance, IMO.
Chastised?? I was asking you to read all the comments and perhaps address your chastising elsewhere. And really, those criticizing Amy WERE comparing her to other dancers. Some of us just want to enjoy her journey. I don’t know why admiring what Amy did equates to not loving what others did. Anyone reading all the comments here would see that wasn’t the case. You and the critics are the only ones drawing that line.
Perhaps you shouldn’t worry about who’s chastising who, eh?
Thanks Heidi for voicing how I felt about Amy. I don’t think some of you know how much hope that will bring Veterans who have lost limbs, just like what JR did for burn victims. I can’t tell you the number of people who are missing a limb are watching these dances each week and how long into perpetuity others will see them. Amy’s dances will be used by physical therapists and mental health therapists to show what someone can achieve. I try to do as many things as I can each day by myself. I end up on the floor a little too much but I want to try. Amy isn’t just trying, she is doing it and to pick her apart is sad. And now I am truly done, but these remarks will stay with me a long time.
I am going to watch again tomorrow–I thought this was such a fun episode.
I’ve seen Charlie lift Meryl above his shoulders in exhibition and in photo shoots. I saw them perform at Stars On Ice yesterday here in NY just before they flew to LA and he had her lifted really high up in the opener. He couldn’t have done that in an ice dance competition. Plus he lifted another male skater above his head yesterday along with help from 3 other skaters.
I’m not reading a lot of Erin comments so maybe folks agree that she seemed to take a bit of a mellow pill tonight? Her hair seemed like someone gave her the hairstyle and then forgot to clean it up. It looked frizzy. Other than that, still very little side by side interaction with Tom. I would be very surprised if she is back next season.
I’m happy Candace was saved. Cody only smiled when he was singing so he didn’t seem to be upset that he was eliminated. I hope NeNe goes next.
Favorites of the night:
James & Peta: I personally think they deserved that 40 very much. The lifts were awesome and the guy looks like he’s been working his butt off. It was romantic, heartfelt and honestly, even if it was another song (to Lizzie) I am pretty sure it would have had the same impact and would have gotten similar scores. Kudos to Peta for what I think was her best choreo in a VERY long time.
Charlie & Peta: First of all, I keep singing this damn song in my head and it won’t go away. Please send help. Anywho, his dance was great and had he not dropped the cane I would say it was 40 worthy. Glad he got one 10 though (could have been at least two of them).
Everyone else I was just not impressed by at all. Amy & Derek were lovely but I just didn’t think it was that memorable for ME. But that woman still surprises me every week.. I was worried about her in ballroom but she just proved she can do anything. Can she please do an Argentine Tango soon? I think she would KILL that. NeNe was fun.. no comments on that training package… yikes Tony. Meryl and Maks were a bit boring imo (and I do like them). Maks has got to up his choreo ASAP. Candace was better but still not all that great. Latin is just not her thing. Drew was alright, Danica I believe was technically great but I can never remember much of her dances at the end of the night. Cody was… Cody. It just felt like the same thing yet again. A bit surprised he went home THIS week because I figured he’d be the “shock” elimination on like week 7. Oh well..
Great night of dancing though! Disney night was a success in my book and needs to happen more often (just without Donny Osmond please….)
Cher, you’re right. There were no shadow rolls. However, I said they did reverse shadow rolls, which are actually even more difficult than “regular” shadow rolls. It was at 1:17 on the dailymotion video I saw of their dance.
Cidra: “Meryl dererves a spot in the finals — Maks doesn’t — and therein lies the rub. However, I’ll take Mediocre Maks over Non-dancer Danica in the finals, every Monday from now until next year!”
Totally agreed. Meryl is a good dancer, but Maks has subpar choreography. Hopefully he steps it up. I still think that Meryl will probably be in the finals though. I just think the producers wouldn’t have signed on both Charlie and Meryl if they didn’t want to set it up for a Meryl vs. Charlie showdown at the end as part of the final. It’s one of the reasons they were approached to do the show together (like the producers actually met with them at the same time), I’m thinking. Danica did a good dance this week, but she hasn’t been terribly consistent. Candace too. It’s still early though, so we’ll see.
It’s a tough season this year. Whoever wins, it’s going to be a fought-for win.
Candace, NeNe, Drew and Amy would be happy to see any one of these 4 go all the way.
I think James is such a good guy and so non-Hollywood. Even though he can dance circles around Cody, I’m worried for him vote-wise.
Loved Sharna’s choreography. My favorite dance of the night. I hope they get to do it again.
Amy blows my mind every week. Would love to see what a Derek freestyle would look like with her.
I think the final 4 are Meryl, Charlie, Danica and Amy. I would be happy for any one of
them.
I really wish Maks was a better choreographer. Meryl could win pretty easily with Derek or Val, but it looks like she’s headed in the Mel B direction: The choreography doesn’t live up to the dancer’s abilities.
I loved Maks and Meryl and I see nothing wrong with his choreo, they were underscored tonight. NeNe was so mean to Tony, she is not fun to watch.
Charlie had the best dance of the night and Peta was good as well.
Drew is in deep doodoo after looking at the scores. Amy and Candace need to be the next two sent packing. Amy was grossly overscored tonight and Candace was also.
I don’t think Nene was mean at all. I think she was brutally honest. She comes in excited about what she has learned and her partner is acting like a jealous boyfriend. She said her piece, he received it and they moved on. I like them.
Really upset with Cody’s elimination. It was a huge shocker. Whoever I like on any season gets eliminated early or never makes it until the end. Now time to root for Charlie and Sharna, James and Peta & Meryl and Maks.
Lynne #214, I send you a big smiley heart today!
I’m not surprised by Cody being sent home. I never got that he really wanted to be there. Witney seemed more upset about their elimination than Cody did. I do hope they bring her back as a pro next season. She’s one of those good surprises that I love so much on DWTS.
I’m surprised they didn’t have an extra chair at the judges desk for Donny’s ego. I get that he was trying to be entertaining and funny but it just came across as “IT’S ALL ABOUT MEEEEEE!”.
The Charlie and Sharna Jazz was amazing. It literally could have been lifted from a 1950’s musical with Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse. And I love those two dancers, so from me it’s very high praise indeed.
After seeing Meryl with Val doing the Argentine Tango and now seeing her Samba with Maks, I know she has A TON of potential and Maks needs to show it. Val pushes her to her best, and thats how they pulled a 39/40. Although I love Meryl & Maks’ relationship, I think he should step up and push her a little bit more. But then again, they got a crappy song this week. Oh well. It’s the middle of the season, anything can happen. 🙂
Tony has liked NeNe’s feistiness up until now—good showmanship- and lots of fun and laughs–but he seemed to be wondering if it’s real or an act during their confrontation. Also, I could be wrong but I think all along NeNe has had something of a crush on Tony and here she was just looking to pick a fight—like in grade school where you pick fights with the boy you like. She didn’t realize she was going to embarrass him as much as she did or that later he might still be angry and sore about it. I do think more went on after this scene. That might be where the overwrought emotion came from after the judges said how much better his routine was this week and he seemed irritated (she’s not a trained actress so maybe she couldn’t fake happiness). NeNe has to learn to start segueing from RHOA/reality show behavior to a more subdued persona for mainstream TV. NeNe is great but if she isn’t careful, she is going to ruin the whole thing and her bigger than life personality will become a drag. I hope not. She and Tony are great together. They have a lot of chemistry.
Cher #180, Endo is an evil scum queen. I suffered with it for 18 years. Hope you feel better soon.
I still think that Meryl is in the middle of the pack when it comes to viewer votes. The reason is Maks in my opinion. It’s a shame and such a waste. I predict that the sparkle monkeys will put them in jeopardy next week to try to rally fans to vote for them more.
If by chance they have a bad week and get scored closer to the bottom of the leader board than I wouldn’t be surprised to see them get eliminated.
I may be in the minority here, but I’m having a difficult time understanding why Nene is being lauded for her behaviour. She was rude. I’m not a Tony fan (last week I stated that he was obviously bothered that Nene could possibly get a higher score with Derek) but I think he was honest about his insecurities. Now that is ‘real’ unlike what Nene is known for – manufactured reality.
“Those who take pride in being ‘brutally honest’ are typically more interested in being brutal than they are in being honest.”
May, I have to disagree, I don’t think she was rude. She was excited and wanted to share what she had learned and she was basically shut down with no indication as to why. She felt she had gained something from her experience with Derek and Tony basically told her it didn’t amount to anything. That would hurt, especially is she’s coming back to her TEACHER and wanting to show how she has learned to help her continue their journey. She could have just swallowed her pride and said nothing, but she got the tension out in the open and it was squashed. Why hold something in that’s just going to fester?
That’s not to say I have a issue with Tony either. Actually I think they both showed very human emotion. Neither was the victim nor the villain.
The band is over playing the music. Several times I cut the volume down during the dances. The bands inexperience in this type of setting is showing through. Cody would not be gone if he had been paired with Emma. Witney needs to mature and Cody needed more structure. Maks needs to slow done. He is doing an injustice to Meryl. Just because she can move at the speed of light, does not mean she must. Val would have been the better dance partner height and style wise.
Sharna killed it with Charlie. She is excellent and a pleasure to watch. Charlie is a baby doll. James and Peta were thrilling. James is becoming my favorite. He is so likeable and seems sincere. Amy has overcome significant obstacles to dance each week. Derek is brilliant. This is creativity of a whole new level. The odds will increase against her as the weeks get tougher and everyone continues to up their game. But beating the odds is her lifeblood. I would not ever bet against those two. Watching each of them grow in their own way, is such a treat.
Prince Charming Derek or the bad boy long haired scruffy beard Derek?
I don’t like the new band. I say, bring Harold Wheeler back and while they are at it bring Brooke back as well. And give them each a BIG FAT Raise.
Megan, I re-watched the clip on YouTube to see where: “she was basically shut down with no indication as to why” and “Tony basically told her it didn’t amount to anything” — I’m sorry, I didn’t see or hear that. All I saw was a grown woman ignore instruction from her teacher, snap her fingers in a grown man’s face and decide that they were done for the day. Tony laughed (nervously) as he believed she was just kidding – she wasn’t. In my opinion, her behaviour was unbecoming.
They are on the same team. He obviously wants them to do well. He wants her to do well. He wants her to win. I wasn’t sure how to interpret her crying after the dance. Was she caught up in the emotion of doing well? Did it have to do with their rehearsal footage?
If she goes next week, I will not miss her.
Holy Over-scoring Batman!! I thought Drew was scored correctly for his dance, but then they began giving out 10’s like it was candy on Halloween. Once that starts there is no going back and you end up with a perfect score on a dance that doesn’t deserve it.
So am I the only one that disliked Drew’s quickstep? I feel bad saying that because I love how much fun he is to watch and he is improving but that was just really weird to watch.
Oh and Tony needs to take a chill pill. Same for Nene. His attitude set her off and chaos ensued.
@vin:i totally agree with your assessment of tony and nene. tony set the mood. he was jealous and dismissed anything nene suggested about how the dance should go. then, she overreacted and left. i wish that the clip showed them making up, but i guess the producers edit things the way they want. it was a crappy edit, though, given that nene and tony are crazy about each other (pics/videos on instagram and twitter). ah well.
This band is bad enough to the point of being distracting–alot. And I’ve heard it before but the bumper where they came back from commercial before giving Amy’s scores–the girl singer was waaaay off-tune. Production quality of the show had gotten soo good in the last few of seasons and now parts of it are really suffering again including the music and camerawork, both so crucial for the dances.
I was hoping Cody would go, guess others felt the same way and the demo that producers wants so bad don’t bother to vote.
I thought going beyond ONE reference to Juliannes remark was petty and unprofessional. So I guess the Chermokowsky influence, accented even more by Erin, is really taking over the show.
Charlie shudda had 4 10’s not James, or if the dropped cane where he really didn’t miss a beat bothered you alot, maybe 3 10’s and a 9. I did not like Peta’s interpretation of Frozen at ALL, way too harsh but James did deserve 9’s with one 10 because he performed it well. Peta can be hit or miss for me and the judges should have chosen to reward her choreo last week rather than this one because it was beautiful, spot on. Much like Amy’s dance and choreo for Cinderella. For once CAI stated it right, that dance was everything it should be, it captured the whole idea and magic of that moment and song, it not only depicted all the truth and reality of Amy’s Cindrella story but the classic story as well. And Amy and Derek couldn’t have been more perfect for those parts, in both the old and new story It is a breathtaking fairytale kind of dance, sweet, not hectic, very gentle and loving. Should have had at least 2 if not 3 10’s. The audience, all the girls especially, big and little, were just enraptured.
The judges still are just not properly or consistently couching and gauging the dances for what they SHOULD be portraying. Still very wishy washy and maybe part of that is placement manipulation so the couples end up where the producers want them. But many dances aren’t about how fast you can do them, how many cartwheels or lifts or samba rolls you can do.
And so many others have made statements I agree with here about the Maks, Meryl sitch. Their partnering just wrong from the get-go. I guess she’s rolling with it ?? but Maks hanging all over her just looks brutish, awkward and false. Reminds me of the drunk guy in the bar, hanging on you and everytime he opens his mouth something even more wrong comes out. The hole keeps getting deeper. Maks just keeps repeating the same stuff over and over, Val is falling into the same pattern and trap and it’s because it’s just who they are and they are incapable of anything else. When you are convinced and people around you keep assuring you you are better than everyone else, you just can’t keep all your greatness under wraps, you MUST share it with the world (and yes that is sarcasm)
And how stupid is Tony, the ingrate. Derek got NeNe a reprieve and Tony’s ego is so big instead of shutting up and being grateful he feels like he should show everyone what an a%% he is!
I guess NeNe, Candace and Drew may go next and in that order. And if Amy can’t do it I hope Charlie takes the whole thing !
Happy that:
* I got to watch most of the show last nite even with being with relatives for the holidays-and that their friends are also DWTS fans so we had fun commentating throughout 🙂
* Charlie got the first 10 from Len (the most important judge, remember 😉 )
* James got the first perfect score (James vs. Charlie final 2…yes please!)
* Giving Candace a chunk of my votes last week did help!
Elim was shocking but not so shocking. Once Cody was put in jeopardy I had a feeling it was gonna be him-as Nene had a good week last week and I’m sure Candace is is getting the votes (in addition to her getting screwed by the judges last week)
Rich (#235) nailed it. I wanted the Stooges to be in a good mood and not spoil Disney night, but lordy, their scores were ridiculous. By all means give positive comments, but also give realistic scores.
My guess is they’ll have major judges’ remorse next week and scores will plummet. I pity whomever goes first. They’ll be *lucky* to see 7s. Len will be particularly sour, but I might be there with him because Party Anthem week sounds awful to me.
I completely forgot to mention how great Cheryl looked as Princess Jasmine.
I do still think the hold sections of their Quickstep were quite good. The separate, dancing with the Genie section is where it got sloppy.
Disney Night was by far the most successful theme night ever. I thought the dances, music and costumes were great.
I think Drew when backwards this week – he thrilled with Witney – again Cheryl’s choreography looked stale.
Danica & Val made a great Belle and Beast – but was Val not feeling well – he looked especially sweaty last night in both the opening and his number.
I LOVED Sharna as Mary Poppins. I really think they deserved another 10 at least. The cane dropped didn’t really bother me.
Amy looked beautiful as Cinderella – Was all that fog necessary – looked like a deliberate attempt to hide her feet. She is an amazing athlete and inspiration but that Waltz was overscored.
James and Peta were incredible – I still wish the Producers would remove Contemporary though.
Nene and Tony’s dance was her best (LOVED her costume) but I felt the rehearsal footage was Fake – over dramatized like any of the Real Housewives shows.
Cody and Witney were cute. I knew they’d be going after Drew was announced safe.
Mark and Candace’s dance was very good – not sure I liked her wig.
My favourite partners are Maks and Meryl, but his choreography looked “phoned in again”. MEryl is amazing and he needs to use that to his advantage – not put in so much filler.
I had to rewatch Charlie and Sharna’s dance. So much fun. I am going to go as far as my fav dance out of the past couple of seasons.
Loved the music and of course it reminded me of taking my kids to see all the Disney movies. Charlie and Sharna were great and the dance was so fast, I was exhausted after they finished. And to me the dropping of the cane was no big deal, but of course they dinged him for it, but I did not think they should.
I loved Danica and Val, she was so beautiful and this is my granddaughter’s favorite movie so it is special in our family.
James and Peta was just beautiful.
I loved Meryl and Maks, they were having fun with it.
Amy was beautiful but I am not a fan of the fog, it is not necessary and it always takes away from the dances, no matter who is dancing.
Mark and Candace, all I keep seeing is that awful red wig and the red suit, he looked like a lobster.
I wish that Nene would have gone but oh well.
Power Rankings are up: https://www.puredwts.com/2014/04/15/puredwts-season-18-week-5-power-rankings/
“A deliberate attempt to hide her feet”?? Technically, Amy doesn’t actually have feet. She has prostheses which you already KNOW, from the package, are not going to move in the way that regular feet do. They CAN’T. So why on earth would you not want to use whatever you have in the arsenal to increase the emotional feel of the dance – hence the fog – and camouflage any weakness? That’s what all GOOD choreographers do. It’s why Derek’s won five times and why Maks may not win even with the biggest ringer EVER. Show strength’s, hide weaknesses.
And wasn’t that actually IN the movie, or am I thinking of a different one?
Yes it looked like all the pics you see of the staircase in the distant–I love the fog in many dances and this one would have looked weird wrong without it. And you could see her feet and in fact I noticed Derek had the hemline up do her heels wouldn’t get caught. And did you see all the girls in the audiences faces? most with their mouths gaping open, a dreamy look in their eyes, you could almost hear the AAAAAHHHH!
The fog also set a beautiful mood for Amber’s waltz–which I also looooved!
Whoops I didn’t even finish my first comment…meant to say that I would have loved to see a contemporary dance or something using songs from Mulan. Namely “I’ll Make a Man out of You” but that would have been awkward with Donnie judging. lol.
After pondering, I think I want to see a James/Charlie finale; I really wanted to see Maks bring it with Meryl to really earn that trophy–but I’m so bored with the routines each week.
I predict that Nene will go next week, followed by Drew, Candace, Danica, Amy (or Amy then Danica…not too sure) Meryl, then James vs Charlie. Or Meryl vs Charlie and James being in the top 3. Really gunning for a James/Charlie showdown, though 🙂
I thought Disney night was one of the best shows ever. The costumes, the dancing, special effects and the opening number the best this season. This was the most entertaining show. Loved loved Charlie and Sharna and dropping the cane did not bother me at all, I have watched it 3 times and he recovered perfectly.
Donnie was an annoying judge, it was all about him.
Erin once again made unnecessary comments…the phone in got old.
Ready for NeNe to go hope she is next, she is the one that needs to change her attitude.
Cody was just too awkward, but he tried, Whitney is great.
The scoring was a little strange..over and under scoring took place.
Hope they keep the Disney theme.
Fog-shmog! All the pros, including Derek, have used loads of fog for various dances over the seasons. Why is it when Derek uses it for Amy that it’s a “deliberate attempt to hide her feet”? If this was a “real” ballroom competition, then yes, I’d so nobody gets to use fog; but this is a celebrity dancing show, so cue the fog monster!
Speaking of Amy’s feet (and I’m of the persuasion that she does have feet, albeit prosthetic ones that don’t operate the way flesh and bone feet do), I think this was the first week where the producers didn’t (couldn’t?) start with a long shot of Amy and her partner, then zoom in on her feet followed by a slow crawl up her legs before finally getting to her face. I don’t see them zooming in on anyone else’s feet, so enough already! (OK, rant over.)
I don’t like theme nights!! To me it takes away from the dancing JMO
Amy and Derek were amazing he is so great with her and she is a trooper Hope she goes all the way she deserves that MB
Loved Peta and James dance and thought the scores were right on It seems when Peta was dating Maks it was ok for her to get a perfect score but now not so much 🙁 Hope they are in the finals!
I have yet to see a serious dance from Maks (except his non foxtrot) he’s just goofing around and Meryl will suffer She was so much better with Val
Charlie is being held back but I think in the end he will come out ahead of the pack If a skater is supposed to win I hope it is Charlie Sharna is great with him
I agree all of a sudden Danica knows how to dance But that is no surprise with all the training she has had she should
I think if TPTB want to save viewers they should not have all expierenced dancers in the finals but the rumor is Maks has been promised the MB so I guess it doesn’t matter I guess Conrad doesn’t really care cause he is leaving
The rest of the dancers are working hard and giving their all but will need votes to stay in the competition and then I don’t know if that will really help The TPTB have a plan and they are not in it JMO
I think Tony needs a loooong break seems like something sets him off every week I think there are better things for both he and Maks to do elsewhere but will keep that to myself
Love this site and appreciate the way they keep us up on all the goings on Good job ladies!!
@cidra, don’t you know all Derek does is mask his partners weaknesses. He doesn’t actual teach them to dance. Kellie just knew how to create beautiful lines, Derek didn’t teach her. Or Shawn was good in all stars bc Mark taught her, not Derek who Shawn specifically said helped her improve and taught her perform. The one area people felt Shawn improved the most from her original season. Also saw some saying now Val’s work with Meryl and Danica shows how he is the best. Something tells me if Derek danced with Meryl and Danica back to back, the same people would say it is bc he had ringers. It is always either he isn’t a good teacher who teaches celebs to dance, has ringers or judges who prop him for his successes.
I forgot another thing I want to address WHY do we need a guest judge every week? What is the purpose? I would rather see dancing by the pros that have been eliminated Like someone said less talking and more dancing
My thing about Charlie and the cane – if ANYONE else had dropped it, they would have been praised for days for the way he recovered and continued with the dance as if nothing had happened, and it would have *added* to the score for the, um, professional way it was handled.
Because Charlie is being considered, apparently, a professional already, he gets dinged for the oopsy. Grrrrrr
IMO – it should have been completely ignored, because the *rest* of the dance was head and shoulders above what anybody else was asked to do. (And I’d hate to see some of the pros *cough*Tony*cough*Maks* try to do that dance as well as Charlie did it…)
#253 Melissa BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! (wipes tears of laughter from eyes) Thanks for the laugh! Let’s just say I (and my dance instructors) have a different opinion on what Derek is doing…(continues to chuckle to self)
eta – sorry. just reread your post. (retreats to lurking mode)
I *really* want to see Charlie and the penguins again – has anyone seen a video of that? Or remembers which routine it came before (or after)?
LOL, Melissa — silly me for forgetting that everything is Derek’s fault 😛 and that he’s achieved all his success with smoke and mirrors and special treatment rather than with any real talent.
Lurker, you bring up an excellent point! I was expecting the judges to compliment Charlie for the amazingly quick recovery of the cane and getting right back in sync with Sharna, but nope, he got none of that.
Just wondering if I missed something ?? I went back to look at Amy/Dereks pkg. Anyone got any ideas why Erin had such a condescending tone when she said to Derek “do you have ANY IDEA how many women wanted to see you as Prince Charming?” and he just sort of skipped past it.? Sort of insinuating like, WHY would they want that ?? Did I miss an earlier comment or was someone else supposed to do that dance or ??
@RaineMayer – Nope, you didn’t miss anything. Erin’s just a c u next Tuesday that seems to have inherited La Familia’s love of “sticking it” to Derek in whatever way they can. Maybe if she’s good next week, they’ll let her wear one of the designer dresses from Brooke’s old closet, instead of the off-the-rack Jessica McClintock prom dress they had her in last night. 😉
lol Courtney ! She is really a bad decision but this time rather than just needling Derek ( or the interviewee) it was almost like she was mocking like “oh you stupid viewers”. And I thought he’d say somthg like, yes it’s flattering or yes isn’t that great? but instead he just moved on and everyone including Amy looked uncomfortable. I think she annoys a lot of people but this had an even weirder tone to me than her usual snark.
Hahahaha off-the-rack Jessica McClintock. That is EXACTLY the look she had going for her.
But to Erin’s credit, I don’t think it was supposed to be a dig at Derek or anyone, just a “how lucky Amy is” to be dancing with such an in-demand Prince Charming.
That’s just how I took it, anyway.
I didn’t get that she was being insulting, Raine – and it was true, actually, judging by my twitter feed. That’s just Erin’s voice, I think. As for Derek skipping past it – that’s what he always does when ppl say stuff that shifts the focus off his partner.
There’s a lot to criticize Erin for but I don’t think she was mocking Derek at all. In fact, in between taking jealous pot shots at Maks, she seems to be extremely complimentary of Derek and Amy, more so than any non-Chmerkovskiy pairing.
This show literally had me groaning out loud. The scoring was so bogus. And my mother and I were shocked to see Cody being eliminated so early in the competition.
I loved seeing the men dance shirtless last week. It was amazing to be able to truly see their quality of moment. But, IMO seeing Maks half dressed for most of the show and even in the after show interviews was a bit too much of a cheap gimmick and blatant attempt to draw attention to Maks.
100% agree with Princess Heidi about Derek’s non response to Erin’s Price Charming remark.
And, to give credit to Erin, I certainly didn’t take it as her mocking him. JMO, but I always took it that Erin really liked Derek and that the problem she had was just with Nicole’s experience/talent.
It surprised me that I really enjoyed Disney Night especially since I was worried it would be terrible. I loved the costumes, the music, and mostly all the dances, especially the opening number.
Drew’s open-mouthed facial expression was weird, and after watching him dance to Whitney’s cute choreo last week, I found Cheryl’s choreo boring. Time for him to exit, imo.
Danica & Val danced well and I enjoyed their costumes and choreo.
I really loved the Mary Poppins number with Charlie and Sharna: so difficult yet so much fun. I think Charlie is a great dancer and I always love his signature curly blonde locks! I agree with other posters that there was too much cane work and it would’ve been better to just see him dance side by side w/Sharna.
Amy & Derek looked gorgeous and she did so well. Great costuming and atmosphere.
Peta and James did great and I think he has a shot at the finals.
Nene and Tony’s dance was fun but I think Tony is a big whiny, jealous baby and I am sick of him.
Cody and Whitney were, imo, just OK and I wasn’t sad to see him go.
Candace and Mark’s dance was spirited and fun and I’m glad she finally dropped her conservative costuming, although I didn’t think her wig was very flattering. I love seeing her husband Valeri and her 3 beautiful kids in the audience.
Maks and Meryl were underwhelming; the choreo was basic and bland and I sure miss her with Val. She has so much unfulfilled potential. Come on Maks, you can do better choreo than that. Have to say though, that I thought Maks looked really sexy without the facial hair.
My only comment about Donny “aren’t I wonderful” Osmond is that it looked like he had a new curly hairpiece which wasn’t very flattering.
All in all, I loved Disney night!
I loved Disney week, especially Charlie and James.I really hope those two are in the finals with Meryl.Mandy More is an excellent choreographer for all the opening numbers! It’s time for Nene to go home, she has reached her limits.I love Val bu Danica is getting on my nerves.
