Ok, we’re halfway through the season of Dancing With The Stars Season 18! VOTE and let’s see some numbers for how you might feel for the questions in the SIX Polls below. Note: In the first Poll, you can vote FOUR times. Also note that you’ll be able to watch the Results. So, keep checking back to see how the Polls are fairing. Also, let us know how you voted in comments if you like.
Please RATE and VOTE in these Polls….
Jimmbboe inspired this Poll yesterday at twitter. He tweeted that he’d rather see a pro dance rather than unqualified guest judges babbling on. What do you think?
1. Amy, Charlie, Meryl (even though I’d rather see Danica), and James
2. Oh man, this is so hard. I think it’s going to be between Amy and Charlie (and they are my two faves equally too). In the end, I voted for Amy as I think voters just love her, her heart, and message. Then again, fans are really loving Charlie too. Oh this is so hard.
3. Even though there were a few quirks here and there, I rated all the judges with a “5”. I thought they all did a great job and brought a lot of heart and fun in!
4. I voted for Jim’s option. Even though I have liked the guest judging so far, in the end, I’d rather see MORE DANCING!
Okay, I said that I think the final four will be Charlie and Sharna, Meryl and Maks, Danica and Val, and James and Peta. If there was a top 5, I would have Amy and Derek in there, but at this point, I don’t see them in the finals, even though I would love to see them. James is on an upswing, and he is working hard and improving, and I do see him making the finals at this point. I think it’s already been decided by TPTB that Meryl and Danica are both going to be in the finals, and Charlie is working VERY hard, and has the right attitude, and he deserves to “fight it out” with James for the finals. However, I could also see him being “Ralphed” by TPTB to remove as many obstacles for another contestant as possible. And I guess we can hope and pray that doesn’t happen…. And vote hard!
For the second question, I said Meryl and Maks would win. If we were asked who I wanted to win, my answer would have been different.
And for the guest judges, didn’t care for Donny at all, liked Julianne, and am so-so on Robin….. She was very nice, but I like when guest judges give advice on something to work on to improve. And LESS GUEST JUDGES MORE PRO DANCING!
I say again, MORE dancing by Karina and the pros, LESS rambling on by guest judges. It’s a dancing show, after all! π
You guys rock. thanks!!!
1. I voted Meryl, James, Charlie and Amy. I feel confident Meryl and James will be there and assume Charlie will (unless TPTB get crafty for some reason). I would like to see Amy in the finals but also wouldn’t be terribly shocked to see Danica there. I honestly don’t think Danica has the votes to get past Amy (or Candace for that matter) to make it into the finals but if TPTB want both brothers there then that doesn’t really matter.
2. I picked Meryl just because I think there are some higher powers pulling the strings here and they will do what they can to get Maks a win. I think the final two will be Meryl and James.
3. I thought Robin was great, Julianne had some harsh comments but I think her critique was good, Donny was terrible. Overall would rather just another pro number. I don’t think guest judges are going to help with ratings so just get rid of them. They better only have three judges for the finals.
1.I voted the final four to be: Meryl and Maks, Charlie and Sharna, Amy and Derek, and James and Peta. Danica may be good but I just dont see her getting the votes to even make it past Candace.
2. Meryl, because shes good and really popular. Also her partners Maks and I think tptb want him to finally get his win.
3.I you tube the dances so I fast forward threw judges comments so I cant say on the guest judges.
Great poll, Vogue π
1.) I think Meryl & Charlie have been a lock since day one, and I think at this point Danica & James will probably round out the final four. I think Amy will probably get ousted in the semifinal – I’m fully expecting the judges to drop the hammer and really start lowballing her in order to make sure she doesn’t make the finale.
2.) Despite the fact that the men upstairs seem to really be pushing Meryl hard as the golden girl right now, I’m thinking she may suffer the same fate as William Levy: all that pimping and the best he could pull off was 3rd place. I think James is having more of a journey and could peak at exactly the right time, and if the votes for Charlie & Meryl get split like I think they might, I could totally see James swooping in and getting that MBT…so I voted James.
3.) As for the guest judges, I gave Robin a 4, Julianne a 5, and Donny a 2. Robin doesn’t know a whole lot about dance, but she was positive & encouraging to all of the couples; I think Julianne actually gave the most helpful criticism; and Donny…made it all about himself, but the fact that he did kinda hone in on the same problem we had with Cody and managed to say exactly the right thing to Amy after her dance brought him up to a 2 for me. While I would like more pro dances (and I think the judges yap for way too long on DWTS), the one reason I really like the guest judges is that it increases the overall points total, which decreases the margins for voting and seems to diminish the overall effect of a potential hosing from the judges.
Well, I feel like my picks versus what will really happen are totally different. After what happened with the switch up, I do not trust that what we actually vote is what will actually happen. Maybe I’m paranoid? Yeah, right. I feel like Meryl and Charlie are givens. The other two spots, I could see several things happening. James? Amy? Danica? Possibly Candace? Hard to say at this point for me. Of course, we always have shocking eliminations? Have we really had any yet? Some might think Cody but I don’t. So we are probably due.
I personally think the only way Maks and Meryl win is if TPTB make it so. Just my opinion.
The extra judges? I’d rather see extra dancing. The fact that the extra judges score always mirrors the other three judges tells me we don’t really need them there. If they are going to be just another puppet, do away with them. Let’s see more dancing!!!! It’s a dance show, right?
I love polls!
1. I think Meryl & Maks, Charlie & Sharna, and James & Peta will definitely be in the finals. I go back and forth between Danica and Val and Amy and Derek. I don’t think Danica has the audience, but I don’t think Amy is going to have the judges. In the end I think the last couple will be Danica and Val.
2. I don’t see Meryl winning as she keeps getting shoved at us and her story line is just going to be flat at some point. I also don’t see Danica winning as I don’t think she has the fans and the C bro vote will be split. I think final 2 will come down to Charlie and James with James winning. I just get this feeling that unlike Cody, James has fans that are actually voting.
3. I gave Julianne a 4, Robin a 3 and Donny a 2. I thought Julianne provided the most constructive comments as she actually knows about dancing. Robin spoke well and was positive to everyone and I just hated Donny as he couldn’t stop talking about himself. Like Courtney, I didn’t give him a 1 as I agreed with his Cody comment, but everything else was a disaster. I didn’t give anybody a 5 because I’m 100% over guest judges. Just give me more pro dances, more bumpers, ect. I am NOT looking forward to the next two guest judges.
1. Meryl/Maks, Charlie/Sharna, Danica/Val, Amy/Derek
2. Amy/Derek
3. I didn’t rate any of them because I don’t want guest judges. What a waste of time. More pro dances please.
James could easily be added to the finals for me. I’m having a hard time discerning if he’ll have the age range voting bloc that I’m thinking Danica may have. She’s calmed down but his personality trumps hers a little for me. Maybe Maks/Meryl could be a shocking elimination. Nothing against either one it just doesn’t appear as if they would be all that upset if they didn’t win anyway.
1. Who I think will be in the finals: 1. Meryl/Maks, Charlie/Sharna, James/Peta, Amy/Derek.
2. Depends. If Amy/Derek make it to the finals and judges don’t try to stop them with low scores, I think that they will win, because she has Derek, who always comes up with the best freestyle and that’s really what it counts in the finals. And no one can beat her story. Just no one. Is she the best dancer? No, but she doesn’t suck either. If Amy/Derek doesn’t win, then I’m all about James/Peta. I love him more and more every week.
I love your polls Vogue!
I couldn’t decide who I think will be the 4th in the finals so I voted that so far I see Charlie, Meryl and James in. I may go back and add a 4th after I think about it some more. I can see it going so many ways. I think Amy has a good shot because she’s so amazing and Derek is so amazing at creating something beautiful in spite of considerable challenges. If Drew makes it past this week of low score, I wouldn’t count them out either because Cheryl knows how to do her job. Candace has such room for continued growth/journey. I think I’d be surprised by Danica making it, not because she doesn’t look great but I think the family voting machine will go hard for Maks over Val and for sure over Tony.
I still think Charlie will win. He’s very likable, he’s very talented, he works hard and I think Sharna is probably hungry and is extremely capable of delivering what needs to happen in the finals. Unless of course they get hosed along the way.
I’d prefer to do without the guest judges because yakatey yak yak yak, be quiet already. But I do agree with Court’s point about decreasing the spread for votes to cover. And I’m all over the more pro dance idea. I’m not a huge fan of the bumpers when they only do the bump and grind sexy over and over but lately there seems to be more variety in them.
Very interesting–a ccuple of thoughts, even tho these polls show her as the winner I just don’t FEEL like Meryl will actually win.( That is of course, only if Maks wasn’t promised the win and just handed the MBT as blatantly as Tony was.) I also don’t have a real feel who will at this point but I think if Amy doesn’t go out in 4th place, then it’s a toss-up and she might just win the thing because I think if she makes it into the finals she is probably getting a lot more votes than we realise.
I gave the judges all 2’s and 3’s because I don’t think they are allowed to score as they really want to and just follow along even if they make a comment or two that is their own. I WANT MORE PRO DANCING and dances.
Thanks Jess and Thanks for all of your fun comments and votes all. xxx
I agree with Courtney on most points except I did give Donny a 3. And
also you can’t overdue any of the personal stories they get played out
at some point.
I voted for James, Charlie, Meryl and Amy for the top four (although I almost had Danica over Amy) with Charlie being the likely winner.
Gave 4 to both Robin (who really surprised me) and Julianne (brought a more honest perspective to the panel) and 2 to Donny (who seemed to only ever want to talk about how he did on the show and his career, although I agreed with him on Cody).
Although I voted for Amy/Derek to win, I think the final two will be Amy and Meryl. What I also think might happen if this occurs is the judges will go in favor of Meryl. Len said in the beginning that Amy would be judged like everyone else, but I think the judges have gone in the opposite direction for lower scores than necessary for Amy. JMO!My gut feeling is there are shenanigans going on behind the scenes to give Maks the MBT somehow. I am not the only one who feels this way. My second choice to win would be Charlie/Sharna.
For the first one, I went with James, Danica, Charlie, and Meryl. I don’t see Amy getting to the finale. Maybe I’m wrong though. For the second one, I went with Meryl but James is coming on strong the past couple of weeks as is Charlie. I gave Robin a 5, Julianne a 4 and Donny a 5. For the last one went with keep them coming.
I’d rather they drop the 4th judge and add back in confessionals, open mics from the dances and more unscripted backstage.
At this point, I THINK Meryl, Charlie, James and Amy will be the final four but I WANT Meryl, James, Amy & Candace in the final four.
I think Amy’s best shot is making 4th, I’d be shocked if she made the finale, but will be extremely pleased of course, but I kind of seeing her land 5th. Don’t know and she is limited, but she has Derek, who knows a thing or two about limitations.
I do like Meryl but only have seen one “wow” dance and that was that Argentine Tango with Val. My jaw hit the floor and it is IMO the best dance performed so far. I saw Maks step up his choreo (aka more dancing, less filler) in this samba and she executed it nicely. Charlie, while good, hasn’t struck a chord with me yet. I by no means dislike him, but his dancing, while GREAT, just hasn’t done much. And while no one will ever get “Ralphed” like Ralph Macchio was, I just get the feeling that Charlie may be a “shocking elimination” or the judges continue grating him that he will get sent home before his time.
I actually hope either Meryl or Charlie doesn’t make the final, but I would vote Meryl AT THIS POINT over Charlie.
My dream final 3 is Meryl, James and Candace (or even Danica), but it would also be interesting to see Meryl, Charlie and James, with one of the Olympians taking 3rd.
I absolutely want James to win this thing. That boy has impressed me a LOT, and he has a great personality plus is executing the dances with great force and his technique is improving every single week. A great attitude and great technique? I really hope he sneaks in and wins this thing, but as of now I think Meryl might take it, whether deserved or not.
As for the guest judging, I didn’t care too much for Robin (though I love her personality). She didn’t add much, Julianne added a lot and was a great critic and I like that she calls slop for what it is. She was fantastic. Please don’t shoot me, but Donny didn’t stink for me. I am by no means a Donny fan, and he is still my most disliked Contestant EVER, but he did bring some kind of an almost comedic charm. He actually is a great *performance* judge and I felt he was well behaved. Still not crazy about guest judges, but they haven’t been the “anger producing shtick” I thought they’d be.
*sigh* all this thinking, AHHHH! π
Thanks for the poll!
1. Meryl/Maks, Charlie/Sharna, Danica/Val, James/Peta. I feel like Amy/Derek, despite having the best inspirational story, isn’t going to win or be in the finals (eliminate in the semi finals) because I think with what Carrie Ann said last week about judging her differently means that she might not be on for long because there are things that her impediment simply prevent her from doing.
2. Meryl/Maks. They’re the highest scoring couple so far, indicating consistency, handled a tough dance this past week with a bad song (I totally agreed with Afterbuzz’s comments), and they’re likeable.
3. I liked Robin (5), did not really like Julianne (2), and did not like Donny (1)
Voted as follows:
Final Four- Charlie&Sharna, Meryl&Maks, James&Peta and Amy&Derek
Winner- Charlie and Sharna
Robin Roberts- a 5
Julianne- a 3
Donny -I wanted to put in zero, but since that wasn’t an option, a 1
Jim’s idea for less guest judges and more pro numbers- Hell Yeah!
Final Four: Ideally, for me the final four would be James, Charlie, Meryl and Amy finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Amy’s story is definitely one that touches people which will get her votes. Then there’s of course Derek who just makes all his partners excel (and he also has a big fanbase). However I fear her scores might not be up to par with the rest of the finalists if they lowball her as I think they might do. I feel like Meryl is definitely being set up to win this but I think it could backfire. Charlie has an awesome personality, great dancing skills and an amazing choreographer in Sharna. I fear that with the vote split between him and Meryl he might get up to just second place. Then there is James who has proven is an amazing dancer and entertainer and has been evolving through the season. People like a journey and seeing a non-dancer become a dancer so I feel like that might get him lots of votes. Not only from his tween fans, but also from the middle aged women that make up a big part of the show. He has the looks but he also has the moves and I can definitely see him taking that MBT home at the end and I hope he does.
The guest judges have been OK for me. Robin was my favorite, Julianne was the same as last season (literally the same) and Donny was annoying (but I was happy that he gave Amy and James a 10 :P).
All for pro dances not guest judges. Final 4 James (who will win), Charlie, Candace, and Danica. Surprise elimination – Meryl ( Don’t think she is connecting with the audience)
1. Amy/Derek, Charlie/Sharna, James/Peta, Meryl/Maks
2. I want Amy to win it all. If she doesn’t I hope it’s Charlie or James. It will probably be Meryl, with James as a possible dark horse.
3. I am tired of the guest judges in general, although I thought Julianne was great. In general, more dancing, less behind the scenes drama.

1. Meryl/Maks, James/Peta, Charlie/Sharna, Amy/Derek.
I was vacillating between Danica or Amy, but I’ll put Amy for now. Danica could round out the top 4 if she keeps scoring like she did last week.
2. Meryl/Maks, with James/Peta as runner-up (Charlie/Sharna in 3rd, Amy/Derek in 4th).
-I feel like TPTB is setting Meryl up to win (even having one of those weeks they have to “bounce back” from this past week), and on top of that Meryl is a good dancer. I agree with the person who said that Maks did step up his choreography (lots of samba content) this week, although it’s still not quite there. Their samba was a different style (more playful) than her AT (more passionate, fierce).
-James is doing well, but we will see if he can keep it up with other dances (yikes, quickstep to a party anthem next week). I think he’ll end up 2nd.
-Unfortunately I think the judges aren’t on Charlie’s side, judging from the scores for his jazz this past week. They could have easily looked passed that cane dropping, but they chose to nitpick. Also, with 2 latin dances in the next 2 weeks (cha cha, then latin night), and Charlie’s weakness being latin (even in ice dance), we will have to see.
-I think Amy and Derek will end up in 4th place. If she makes the final, which I will be happy to see, how are they going to judge her freestyle? Freestyles (go for wow factor) tend to be full of tricks and such (like Derek and Nicole’s freestyle), or really graceful dances (like Derek and Kellie’s contemporary freestyle), but can Amy do all those tricks that the other competitors can?
I voted Amy for the win, but if they do get eliminated before the finals, my votes will most likely go to James and Charlie. I’m just not warming up to Meryl/Maks and only liked Meryl with Val.
I gave Robin a 4 instead of a 5 because it still bugs me every time I see her face after Amy’s dance and how touched she was and the beautiful words she said but then pulled the 9 paddle instead of the 10. I really think that dance deserved at least one 10 and Robin could have given it to her since the guest judge usually votes on “performance” instead of “technical” ability. I was happy that Donny gave her a 10 –
I thought Julianne was great and agreed with her comments to Maks.
I voted Charlie and Sharna for the win. Charlie is cute as a button.
If Maks takes home the MBT this season I think my head will explode. And I would love for James and Peta to squeeze Maks and Meryl out of the top 3.
@Susan2 “Donny – I wanted to put in zero, but since that wasnβt an option,” LOL!
I really don’t want Maks to win for many reasons, some legitimate, some emotional. The thing I focus on to give myself hope is Zendaya and Val. This season with M&M is very reminiscent of that, and Z didn’t win. I absolutely believe that Charlie, James or Amy could overcome those two. There are a lot of chips yet to fall so I’m not giving up hope. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted more for someone to lose.
1. James/Meryl/Amy/Charlie. Split votes between M&C.
2. James…He has more than enough dance practice w/4 yrs of starring on Nickelodeon’s “Big Time Rush” (not to mention touring w/the group). Plus he went to a performing arts hi school where he majored in musical theater, which of course, equates to lots of dancing. James did mention that being w/Big Time Rush has already taught him the basics. So he’s already at a slight advantage. I think history will repeat itself, like when Zendaya n Corbin Bleu used their training to help bring them to the finals.
3. Julianne(5), Robin (4), Donny (2). Julianne great critiquing, says it how it is n I agree w/what she said.
At this point, I think that Meryl, Charlie and James are pretty much guaranteed a spot. As to the fourth, I want Amy and Derek, but voted Danica and Val. Now that Danica has miraculously found her form (!) and looking at Amy’s remaining dances and how hard ballroom is for her, I fear her scores will start to drop and the judges will make it clear that she has done her best, but it’s time to get serious.
Like many other people, I think the boys connect better than Meryl and Danica, but perhaps that’s just me! At the moment, I think TPTB really want Meryl, but perhaps they are trying too hard to push her and Maks down our throats! I would be happy with either Charlie or James winning. Whilst I had Charlie as the winner for the outset (and think Sharna will be super hungry for her first win) I think that James is a more unexpected pleasure and is on a massive journey. At the moment, if Amy had gone home, he’d have my vote – but I will probably judge it on freestyle!
I gave both Robin and Julianne a 4 – for different reasons. Robin was empathetic and encouraging, but lacked knowledge. Julianne was knowledgeable but I felt she was deliberately courting controversy. Donny, was mildly annoying – though in a completely predictable way. I gave him a 3 because there were some constructive comments in amongst the self congratulatory stuff. But I definitely agree that I would have a pro-dance in there and less judges stuff. Maybe one or two weeks of a guest judge, but five in a row is too much for me.
PS Thanks for the poll – love these!
Awesome poll, Vogue! π
1. I think the locks for the finals are probably Charlie & Meryl. I’d say James is getting more and more likely by the week. It’s a close call I think between Danica & Amy. I think Amy definitely has the love of the voters on her side, but I’m not sure how the judges will score her from now on, and I also fear that the dances she has left are going to be extremely difficult for her π I really don’t think Danica is getting as many votes, but I do think she’ll get good enough scores that could propel her above Amy. I’m honestly crossing my fingers for Amy, but we’ll see.
2. I honestly think this is between Charlie & James, but in the end I’m thinking James. Charlie’s great and probably is getting good votes, but I also think votes between he and Meryl are getting split. Whether it be Amy or Danica, I just don’t think either one would have the juice to push past 4th or maaaaaybe 3rd. I think James is the true dark horse this season. He’s really gained momentum and I have a feeling he’ll continue to grow and get better. I would love for him to swoop in and win as he is tied with Amy for my favorite thus far π
3. Robin – 4. Though Robin didn’t know much about the technique parts of the dances, but she was very positive and encouraging and really articulated her opinions well. Overall I think she did a really good job.
Julianne- 4. I think Julianne was very knowledgeable and also articulated pretty well. However, I think some of her comments came off a bit too harsh and I also think she really underscored Candace.
Donny- 2. He made too many things about himself. Had to remind us he won, had to reminisce about his season over and over, just got really annoying. However, I do give him props for what he said about Cody (which I totally agree with) and I also think what he said to Amy was great.
I’d love to see more pro dances and less judge yapping, but I do think Courtney brought up a great point about lessening the blow from judge’s scores.
I voted for Amy, Charlie, James, and Meryl for the final four.
I picked Charlie for the win even though TPTB wants Maks. Freestyles and Maks are not best friends. This dance is right up Sharna’s alley. Between Charlie’s personality and his dance skills……that’s a hard combination to beat.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Derek works his magic. The man is a master at his craft.
Final Four- Meryl and Maks, James and Peta, Charlie and Sharna, and Amy and Derek.
Winner- I would be happy if any of them won except Meryl and Maks. Tired of them pimping her. I think TPTB will make sure they win and I sure donβt want to see Chmercocky and his fam gloating.
I donβt like guest judges in general. Donny was really annoying and gave me a headache. Wish I could have given him a big zero.
Moderators, what do you think of Wendy Williams interview that dwts is all scripted? In which case maybe it does not matter who we want to win because tptb will script that too? As you ladies really seem to get this show and understand the set-up, I imagine you have a lot to say about it.
Will thanks. Glad you liked!! π Love all of your comments Everyone. Thanks so much.
Judy, I’d like for us to stay on topic of this post if that’s ok. I was going to post the Wendy Williams thing, but, I didn’t want to give her the attention she seeks. So, did you vote and do you have comments on the polls?
I think the top 3 is going to be Meryl, Charlie, and James. Potentially if Danica or Amy excels in the next few weeks and Charlie doesn’t as much given that he has more latin dances coming up (next 2 weeks in a row for instance), then I could see either girl taking his spot. If Charlie isn’t in the final, then I think a win for Meryl is further solidified because then all of Charlie’s votes would go to Meryl. Right now they’re splitting votes (most fans seem to be splitting 4 for Charlie, 4 for Meryl) and both are still doing fine but then again James has a big following (but are they all voting?). We’ll see.
I believe Wendy said that their *packages* are scripted – and it’s been that way for eons. Of course, Wendy is a moron and makes it sound much worse than it actually is. The parts that are scripted are VERY obvious…. Derek: “This week we are dancing waltz…” and then likely a lot of their alone comments. I know Derek has refused to say some things before, as have others.
Of course, Wendy is still bitter about the show and has a tendency to talk it down whenever possible.
THIS^^
I voted for Charlie, James, Amy and Candace for the finale. Meryl and Maks bug me, the way he hangs all over her is creepy to me. The wasted time during their dances is aggravating and this is wishful thinking on my part, hoping for a shocking elimination. Candace is my 4th choice but I would be fine with 3 couples in the finale.
I think James has a good shot at winning, I enjoy watching him. I also like Charlie, not crazy about Sharna’s choreography, I hope she steps up. I thought the decision to use props was ill advised this week. I went with James for the win.
For the guest judges, I liked Julianne the best. I thought she was spot on with her comments.
For the last question, I chose other, would love to see the confessionals added back, I really miss those.
Thanks to the mods for your hard work, this site adds to my enjoyment of the show!
Thanks I figured you mods would have some better insight and there have been some questionable occurrences this season I think. If it matters how we vote I think it will be James or Charlie or Amy. If the producers have scripted it, it will be Meryl.
Meryl, Charlie, James, Amy
James for the win–Yes his fanbase is huge, like Cody, however the difference is I think they are actually voting, I see A LOT of promoting and buzz about supporting him on fansites
Stay with 3 judges and bring back the confessionals, open mic stuff!
I cannot see Amy being in Final 4 over Danica…I mean seriously I adore Amy but if she makes it in over Danica & Val then it’s on the strength of Derek’s fanbase for sure. That would be a shame as I think Danica should be Final 3 even ahead of James who I think is being way over hyped…but who knows..
Also everyone thinks James has a big following but they all thought that about Cody too lol & look what happened…I think the fanbases for Danica & Amy could knock James out too…I think he’s good but not nearly as good as some are making it seem…
Yes, taking into account Val’s fanbase then maybe it could knock out James. I’m not sure what fanbase Danica might have. As we can see the Full House fanbase isn’t necessarily carrying Candance and I would assume Candance’s fanbase is stronger than Danica. Wonder years was good but nothing like Full House that one is generational
I’m fairly confident James has a bigger fanbase than Val. Also, remember that the Chmerkovskiy vote is split this season. I also think Candace is getting more votes than people think. Tom said she and Cody weren’t “necessarily the bottom two”, so if you believe him that she had enough votes to survive being in the bottom even with her low scores. Time will tell though.
I THINK the finals will be Charlie, James, Meryl and Amy. I WANT Amy to win but if she is eliminated in semis I would vote for Charlie who has been a delight. I think James is a bit overrated and I have a feeling Meryl will be a shocking elimination. I fully expected to love watching her dance but she is coming off cold to me. She seems like a really sweet person but she doesn’t seem hungry for the MBT and I’m sick of Maks acting like the cat who swallowed the canary. Ugh! I vote for MORE DANCING!! I’m over the guest judges.
The final four if your looking at the dance aspect, would be: Charlie and Sharna,James and Peta, Val and Danica, and Meryl and Maks. I do not know what fan base Danica has, but Derek and Amy may be in the top 4. As for winning, I voting for Charlie and Sharna and would not be surprised if James takes it all. I really do not want to see Maks win, Meryl is doing awesome but I am so tired of his kissing her all the time and just acting so immature. It reminds of Val with Kelly Monaco, it got old. I have to so many people who do not want him to win, even if he got the promise.
I would much rather see more dancing than an extra judge…to much time wasted..would be okay if the show was 2 nights. Missing the fun dances, feature a former pro ex. Gleb and Emma and do a dance rather than a 4th judge. Generally the extra judge votes what the others vote……..Disney night was awesome. Missing the big band also.
I voted “other”, thinking guest judges were fine if they came from a real dance background. Then I got to thinking about Michael Flatley (?) The River dance guy, I wasn’t too impressed with him. But I guess the check cashed!
I really hope James wins but Meryl and Charlie are really good dancers. He continues to impress more and more each week. IMO, most of Cody’s twitter followers appear to be international fans so they most likely did not vote while James’s twitter followers appear to be American’s fans and have voted for him. To win though, he does need the votes of the main viewers of this show.
I’d like Charlie to win even though I’m not sure if he has the fan base of Meryl Maks. I worry about a surprise elimination because everyone seems to feel sorry for Meryl all the time between the two, and she seems to be getting all the pity votes. Charlie looks like he’s having fun and is not into this fake showmance crap that James and Meryl are pulling. The Maks Meryl showmance was cute at first but now the hugging and kissing for every package is getting icky and tiresome. And if the TPTB already want Maks to win this season, it is pretty much a done deal.
Well here’s my take on who I voted for:
Amy/Derek; Charlie/Sharna; Meryl/Maks; James/Peta
(1) Amy has the BEST of the BEST working with her and she has a super gracious and humble spirit and touches many hearts. Her courage and determination is awesome. I do have concern with some of the dances she and Derek are facing, but Derek is a “genius” in his own time; so, need I say more?
(2) Charley has a great and humorous demeanor, and obvious dancing skills but needs to tweak it up a bit, and hope Sharna can choreograph some great dances for the remaining weeks. I so like to watch Charlie.
(3) Meryl is simply gorgeous and if Maks plays his cards right and choreographs that which is necessary to bring out Meryl’s dance skills, we will see some really great dancing. They get along good and I like the playfulness and attitude.
(4) James has been improving every week and he has a nice personality and a humble heart and good attitude (not to mention cute/handsome)and works well with Peta. I think she will be doing some more amazing choreography,
As far as the judges:
(3) Robin was very nice and gave comments on the dance not technicality.
(5) Julianne gave good constructive criticism on both the dance and technicality and she says it like it is and does not tip toe around, I like that.
(3) Donny gave nice compliments (especially about himself) but lengthy.
I voted no judges and put more pro dances back on show. Would rather see more pro couples dancing than listening to long winded talk.
Charlie and Meryl are both ringers and overrated. Meryl dancing is really good though and having Maks as a partner is also a big plus. Charlie’s dancing, on the hand, is kind of boring and forgettable.
For the final four, I’m hoping Amy, James, Candace and Danica. Amy is such an inspiration. James and Candace are improving each weeks and they are fun to watch. Danica-I really enjoy the routines performed by her and Val.
Charlie has a girlfriend, Tanith, and I think just as we’ve seen a lack of connection at times between Meryl and Charlie on ice, he has a little bit of a less intense connection (more playful/friendly) with Sharna than say, James and Peta or Meryl and Maks do. Technical prowess can only get you so far; it’s the emotion, and connection between the two dancers that get the 10s. What I’ve noticed is that most of Charlie’s dances have been light (jive, jazz, etc). Charlie’s rumba was also more notable for its lyrical gracefulness as compared to a deep connection with Peta or hip action. I’ll be interested to see how he handles a more intense dance like paso doble where passion and tension must be palpable. He has lots of potential however.
Fake showmances? Don’t see them playing that card although TPTB are trying REALLY hard but definately not seeing it especially with Peta/James. Been adamantly denied in every interview and there is no mushy mush from them besides arms around each other, like all the rest, don’t see how they are playing into it. Clearly there is chemistry but that was there before the show on their group date which was over 3 mos. ago.
I think, by now, you’d have to be living under a rock to *not* know Charlie has a girlfriend, π but I doubt that has much to do with his ballroom chemistry with Sharna (who, just for the record, has a boyfriend π ). I think Charlie and Sharna have very pleasing chemistry. I prefer it to the showmancy Meryl and Maks or the much more honest but still uncomfortable “we’re kinda attracted to each other but keeping it professional” relationship of James and Peta.
As for Charlie’s lack of “deep connection” with Peta in their rumba — I say that’s a red herring. It’s not reasonable to expect that level of connection from a pair that rehearsed together for less than a week under the gimmicky switch-up scenario. That’s less time to get comfortable with each other than if Charlie and Sharna had been given rumba as their week 1 dance.
There was a noticable lack of hip action from Charlie in the rumba, and I hope he and Sharna are working hard to improve that.
I find it pathetic that viewers would rather reward banal choreography and fake physical attraction than engaging, intelligent, well-executed choreography and quality dancing. I guess that’s why Harlequin romances and historical bodice rippers are a multi-million dollar business.
βweβre kinda attracted to each other but keeping it professionalβ which interview is that from?
Count me in among those who gets turned off by showmances in reality TV.
I like good dancing, period. I don’t care for personal blah, blah, blah
etc. It was okay at the beginning but now it icks me about all these cutesy-whoopsey stuff about Maks and Meryl and I seriously liked her in the beginning. She and Charlie are the reasons I am watching DWTS this season. And Peta just icks me.
Not from any interview, Kim, just my way of capturing my entirely personal assessment in as short a form as possible. Perhaps I should have put it in italics rather than quotes to avoid misunderstanding.
Please explain what you mean by “fake” showmance from Meryl and Maks? Both of them seem down to earth and very nice people.
Anyway, I hoping to see Meryl, James, Amy and Danica in the final and finishing in that order. Charlie is also good as well but he is kind of boring. Candace has improved but is not on the same dancing level as the others. Drew and Nene are not very good dancers.
@Kim, Tina & Cidra …the only thing I mentioned concerning Charlie was his needing to tweak things up. Guess I should have explained more wiggle in his hips. And, I do know, and have known since before the Season started that Charlie has a girlfriend of 5 yrs. His tango with Sharna was great except for breaking hold. He is doing great and will continue, because he has the talent. I look forward to their ballroom and Latin dances.
Lisa, Yes, Derek has a formidable fan base, but I would not discount the power of Amy’s performances. Her waltz, in spite of all the whining from opposing fan bases, proved to be extremely well received. The wild card for me is how the judges will score going forward. They have their agenda, which they will begin to unleash next week. I just hope Amy is not a casualty of that agenda.
Maks has always pawed his partners. However, it does appear tptb have told him the showmance is his to play this season. The first comment he made to Meryl gave that much away. I do not see anything blatant on the part of James and Peta however. In fact, they appear to me to be discreet and professional.
I said Meryl, Charlie, James and Candace. I know Candace is a long shot but I prefer her over Danica and I think she has a larger fanbase just from being more visible in recent years. I think her being in the bottom 2 will drive people to vote for her as well. I think Amy will be #5.
I say Meryl and Maks for the win. I think she has been underscored while Charlie and even James have been somewhat overscored. I’m also fully expecting a package at some point about Meryl and how she had to overcome dyslexia and the depth perception issues to be as successful as she is today. I love both Meryl and Charlie but Charlie has come across as very cocky with all the forced Tanith mentions and he pissed off a lot of fans when he didn’t dedicate the “Best Year” dance to Meryl when it was all about her. Maks also has his own strong fanbase. One of his schools is 10 minutes from my house and I took a Latin dance workshop with him and Tony a couple years ago. He is very sweet in person and the women around here go crazy over him. They vote for him no matter who he is partnered with or how he acts. Knowing he has 5 schools now, I can only imagine how that has built his fanbase.
I’d love to see another pro dance but I also miss the singers they used to feature on Results night. I would have loved to have seen Idina Menzel sing Let It Go live last week. I think more cute bumpers like Charlie with the penguins would be great too.
@Heather I know it’s your opinion or anything but I don’t see how Meryl and Maks have been underscored when they currently have the highest average of all dancers and got three 10s two weeks in a row while Charlie just got one last week and James just performed very very well to earn his perfect score. Also not sure what you mean about Charlie’s “Tanith” mentions… Last I hear him mention her was during Week 3 and never before or after that…. Hmmm..
I must be missing A LOT…Does Charlie do the mentioning of his girlfriend in his Ice Dancer world? I have only heard her name one time during yes week 3. I’ve heard the cocky thing a few times now but I just am not seeing it he just makes me smile with his natural goofy type personality. Why should he have dedicated his best year to Meryl hers wasn’t dedicated soley to him–nor should she have.
I’m not even a Charllie voter–yet–not until my favorite is eliminated anyway π
Kim, I think the whole uproar in the skating community was that while Meryl didn’t dedicate it solely to Charlie, she dedicated it to their 17 year journey together, while Charlie thanked his parents and girlfriend, but did not mention Meryl. Since he was naming names and he didn’t mention Meryl, I think he ruffled some fans’ feathers. I didn’t have a big deal with it, but I mean judging from the response on tumblr and twitter after that most memorable year week that was a major sentiment from Meryl/Charlie fans.
I am a fan of Charlie, but even I was cringing at some of his earlier packages (maybe editing though to make it dramatic): stuff like “monogamous relationship” when he was trying to portray a bad boy – I mean, I think production just way overdramatized it because come on, it’s just a role you have to act out for this one dance; “We are still at the top of the leaderboard”, etc. etc. I love Charlie, but I really dislike when contestants sound complacent like that because rankings can all change within a short week. Within the more recent weeks, however, I think Charlie has been portrayed as more likable, so I’m glad.
@Heather, I agree. Meryl and Maks certainly danced better than Nene this week at the very least, and they did a technically fantastic samba (even the folks at AfterBuzz say so) to a song that is very much not a samba song (I mean Jungle Book, really?). I can’t believe Meryl and Nene both got the same score… that is just pretty erratic and sketchy judging.
@CC, If you go on the DWTS Facebook page, a pretty major sentiment is that James shouldn’t have gotten a perfect 40. Personally, while I don’t begrudge that James performed well this week, I just felt that Meryl and Val’s Argentine Tango should have gotten the first 40 of the season then if we are comparing the two dances. Just imho though, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Contemporary is usually scored very liberally though, and “Let It Go” is a very popular song right now.
I’m not sure why Tanith is being perceived as being forced to DWTS viewers when all she did was to support her bf and if we can believe the rumors, her fiance’. Charlie’s mom is open about talking to people that the two of them are already engaged and will marry shortly.
She’s been very, very supportive of Charlie and Meryl, she is their no. 1 fan thru the years and I think Charlie mentioning her a few times is just him being appreciative of her.
Charlie did suddenly stop mentioning Tanith on the show the last couple weeks but he has thrown her name out in interviews in ways that seem a bit out of context. There was an IceNetwork interview last week talking about his and Meryl’s schedule. This is primarily a skating fan site so fans know about Tanith. Yet he threw in a comment about liking to dance with her at parties as if he were introducing her for the first time. The comment had nothing to do with the interview questions at all. It just makes him come across as more awkward than needed.
Ria: I’ve heard the same rumors as far back as December of last year.
It’s probably true since he mentioned that they are buying a house. IMO, he is probably glad that now the Olympics is done and they have achieved their goal, he is now free to mention her(he could be overcompensating), he seems to be head over heels about her.
As to him mentioning scores, I bet you the producers have something to do with that since they are promoting the “rivalry” between him and Meryl.
I like him and Sharna. She is really pushing him on their dance routines and I like their dances so far. As to him being overscored, I think he is being underscored. The level of difficulties in their jazz
alone even with the cane being dropped is something else. I will be very, very disappointed if they don’t make it into the final.
@66 and @67
Mentioning your S/O a few times really is not that crazy. It is kind of cute that he is so in love with her and she brings him joy obviously. He’s just happy that he can mention her finally. It wouldn’t be easy to be the girlfriend of an Olympic Gold Medalist. It comes with a lot of sacrifices. For someone, who has been living together for almost 5 years, being engaged or married is a mere formality. It isn’t going to change their lives a whole lot except for sporting a ring or filing taxes. They are already living the life of a married couple. I don’t see what the big deal is. This is 2014!!!
@65
I saw a Today show clip a couple days ago where Wendy Williams(promoting her book) said that this part of the show (where they talk one on one with the camera) was scripted and the producers made them say that?? So it very well could have been spliced and diced to sound weird. Poor Charlie lol.
Mods, I hope it is ok to post links.
Here is the today show link where Wendy Williams was defending Nene and mentioned how it was scripted.
http://www.today.com/entertainment/dancing-stars-deception-wendy-williams-alleges-they-script-what-you-1D79544259
What a shame the producers didn’t think about getting Tanith on the show this season. They missed out on a perfect opportunity for an all-out war in the figure skating super-fan community. Charlie vs. Meryl vs. Tanith…oh, the melodrama!!!
I think Charlie’s biggest problem is he’s a bit of a nerd (adorably so in my opinion) and a whole lot smarter than a lot of figure skaters. When he says something he thinks is funny (e.g., the monogomous relationship comment) it doesn’t occur to him that it’s going to be misinterpreted.
I would so much rather see another pro dance than any more guest judges. Especially ones that don’t have any experience in what they’re supposed to be judging.
My picks were James, Charlie, Amy and Meryl. I would like to see a final of James and Charlie and if that happened, I would be happy with either one winning.
#73 thanks for the link. All I can say is let it go already Wendy. NeNe doesn’t need you to tell her not to change who she is no way NeNe would do that. Nothing can be more scripted than the Real Housewives and that hasn’t changed NeNe. Like we don’t all know that on these types of shows TPTB recommend and encourage certain things to be said or done. Wendy is predicatable she previously based NeNe now she is defending her so when she’s eliminated she can have her on the show to have a buddy to continue her bashing of DWTS.
My only thing with guest judges is that they need to know what they are judging. If they don’t know ballroom/latin and have no professional dance training they shouldn’t judge.
The producers should have had Tanith and her partner Ben Agosto on after Skating With the Stars tanked. Figure skaters seem to bring the show more buzz and interest than other athletes but I could be mistaken on that. Maybe I’m just biased! π
I hope NeNe is the next one out
Figure Skaters/Ice Dancers have made it very exciting but those football players have been fun to watch too! Would love to see a baseball player they have yet to have one right? Of course they would have to be retired because the airings are always during baseball season.
Derek Jeter’s retiring after this season…just sayin’ π (i doubt he’d ever do the show, but hey a girl can dream) i’d love to see another track & field athlete, but same situation-they’d most likely have to be retired as well (or just deciding to take a season off from racing)
I like Amy/Derek, James/Peta, Charlie/Sharna and Meryl/Maks for a final four. I do NOT want to see Meryl and Maks win. I don’t care for Maks’ attitude because I think he acts like he expects TPTB to manipulate things as such to GIVE him a MBT. His choreography has been lackluster so far this season. Val has outshone him in that aspect.
What I don’t like about Danica is the fact that she has covered up her ballroom dance experience. She’s tried to act as if she’s never danced before but no newbie dancer can master samba rolls as perfectly as she did!
Yes, we all know Amy has limitations in what she can do regarding her lack of lower legs and feet. What she HAS done has been amazing! Girl can shimmy and shake those hips like nobody’s business! Derek has done a wonderful job in showcasing her ability and honestly I don’t think she’d have gotten this far if she’d been paired with ANY other Pro. I know I’ve been utterly amazed by her every week! I have two perfectly good legs and I couldn’t dance that well. Not even close. Derek always choreographs AMAZING Freestyle dances! No one even comes close to choreographing great freestyles..I think his only freestyle I didn’t care for was his one with Ricki Lake but hey, he took her TO the finals! And we all know he should’ve won the MBT with Shawn!
If Amy doesn’t make the finals…I’m most likely going to throw my support to either Charlie or James, I’m still undecided on that.
I loved Robin Roberts judging! But I think she was told what scores to give…the look on her face after Amy’s contemporary during My Most Memorable week told me that she wanted to give it a 10 but was told to give it an 8.
Also liked Julianne. Lots of people took issue with what she said to Maks but sorry, she was right. He proved it again this past week. That was NOT a Samba and didn’t deserve 9’s.
Donny talked way too much about himself. Ick! Not looking forward to Redfoo. He’s a pop star.
The comments on Maks’s latest Instagram picture are nauseating. I wish he would step up his choreography and try to win on Meryl’s talent rather than faking yet another showmance. I would think his fans would want the same but they seem more interested in him finally winning that silly trophy than what he’s able to bring to the table.
Yeah I actually have no issue with Charlie mentioning his girlfriend even a lot, but I think it would be strategic for him to keep Meryl as apart of the conversation, because many Meryl/Charlie fans are wanting to see them “go through the experience together”. I think that’s where Meryl has done a better job in appealing to their fans because I noticed that she pretty much always brings Charlie into the conversation in interviews: “Charlie and I”, “we”, etc.
IMO he is a little naΓ―ve and has no idea how a reality show works. He probably thinks that all he has to do is to do his best dancing.
He does not realize that a lot of their new fans who saw them in the Olympics are shipping him and Meryl hard and refuse to accept that he has a gf or purposely ignoring his gf so he is not going to get many votes from that group. You should see their tumbler page erupt when he did not mention Meryl in his dedication. LOL!
Er, Heather, we must be watching different shows. Meryl underscored?? HARDLY. In weeks 2, 3 and 4 she was the HIGH score – and THAT was being overscored. By a couple points, I would say.
Charlie “cocky” – in what universe? The “Meryl is the BESTEST” universe?? Forced Tanith mentions?? Ummmm…I haven’t heard about Tanith since WEEK ONE and even then I don’t think she was mentioned, just shown on camera. Haven’t seen her since. Fans don’t like that he didn’t dedicate “best year” to her since it was all about her?? Really? I thought your best year was supposed to be about YOU.
Sure, Maks has a strong fanbase….yet he’s never won before. Go figure.
One thing I dislike about DWTS….all the “shipping” talk. Are these people middle aged women or 12 yr old girls???? How does it look like Maks is faking a showman with Meryl? How does it in anyway look like Danica and Val are attracted to each other? SMH
Seeing as how many of the male pros have more twitter followers than both Meryl and Charlie put together, I don’t think that your idea of strategy is necessarily a good one, Tina. If Twitter is indicative of fanbase (although certainly not indicative of who’s voting) then their fanbases won’t be the deciding factor – the general audience will be.
Watch it with the broad generalizations, Lex – Most of us here don’t like shipping any better than you do.
@Lex, When it comes to romantic fantasies, I’ve decided there’s very little difference between middle-aged women and 12-year-old girls. The “Twilight Mom” syndrome proved it for me. π
Hah! I remember how shocked I was to see all those moms buying Twilight books at Borders.
LOL, Ria, nothing wrong with buying/reading the books or seeing the movies; but I saw an interview with a group of “Twilight Moms” that had me questioning their grip on reality. π
LOL. It was not the buying per se but the conversations I heard while they were buying the books. I had to check and confirm that they were not teenage girls who were buying the books. I’ve never even heard of Twilight till that day.
I don’t think they look like they’re faking OR having a relationship, but I didn’t comment before because I tend to just ignore that talk from a few people. All the dancers are quite affectionate and supportive to their partners, always and every season. Touchy people and I can relate to that. And as far as acting a certain role during a dance, they all do that too, see Cheryl and James almost kiss, similar to Maks and Meryl almost kiss.
