DWTS2014 Sharna Burgess And Charlie White Talk To WMUR In Manchester, New Hampshire
Sharna Burgess and Charlie White were interviewed by WMUR in Manchester, New Hampshire. Charlie tells them they have been rehearsing 4 to 5 hours in the morning and then it’s straight to the ice show with Meryl Davis. Below is more….
“Every morning, we have four to five hours of rehearsal, and then it’s straight to the show,” White said. “Physically and mentally, it’s a lot of stress, and it’s difficult.”
White and Davis have been ice dancing partners for 17 years, but they said making the switch to a professional dance partner hasn’t been that difficult.
“No one will ever have the partnership that Charlie and Meryl have,” said White’s dancing partner, Sharna Burgess. “There’s something very special about them, and it’s just meant to be.”
“Some of the habits that I’ve formed on the ice in the last 22 years are difficult to break,” Davis said of her transition to dancing.

ETA: If you go to this link, you can watch a video interview. Maks and Meryl are included in it too. Is that “Feel So Close” by Calvin Harrison playing in the background?
You can hear Meryl’s song in the background…Feel So Close. Pretty sure that’s what I heard??
Kristy, “Feel So Close” was the song in the background.
By the way, from the little snippets of what we saw, Meryl and Maks seem to not be dancing in hold very much like a tango should be like… but maybe that’s because we saw so little of their dance.
Leann
it seemed to me that this was the beginning of the dance, just from what they were doing
Love the critique already of their dance from. 5 second video where they aren’t even doing anything full out….
Maks spoke a lot last week about the need to dance in hold with the tango, so it seemed like that was just the beginning of the dance as they were “walking forward” and “taking a jacket off or something? but it seemed like they were rehearsing a single spin sequence throughout the whole clip
Another enjoyable interview with the traveling foursome. 🙂 It’s cute to see them rehearsing together. I guess decent rehearsal space is limited (as is time), but if anyone can make shared practice sessions work, it would be Meryl and Charlie.
@Kelly Yeah, sorry, I wasn’t trying to critique their dance already, but it seemed like Charlie and Sharna were learning lots of solid cha cha material already when like @Claire said, Meryl and Maks were rehearsing just the beginning sequence or something for the whole little clip.
I just don’t want to see Meryl and Maks, or anyone else for that matter, get penalized points for violating long-established rules like no breaking hold in tango. Charlie and Sharna could have gotten a couple more points on their week 2 tango if they didn’t break the rules. Just concerned (because it’s already so late in the week), not trying to criticize!
Geez Meryl and Charlie look exhausted. I’m actually a bit concerned for their health. Endorsement stuff, SOI rehearsals and shows, new DWTS dances, and flying back and forth all over the country…I know they signed up for this, but the schedule just seems hellish. I don’t know how they’re doing it, or how Evan did it…Olympic stamina?
Personally, I don’t think Meryl or Charlie look all that exhausted. They’re world-class athletes, for heaven’s sake. Sure, they’re probably a bit tired from traveling and not getting as much sleep as normal. However, compared to the mental, physical and emotional strain they were under during the run-up to the Olympics (training, international travel, the weight of expectations) and then the games themselves, this is nothing. As they said, they’re having fun both with Stars on Ice and Dancing with the Stars. The window of opportunity for them to cash in on their Olympic success is very narrow these days. You’re lucky to get 15 minutes. So I’m glad they’re taking full advantage of it because it will all be over soon enough, and then there will be plenty of time to rest.
I agree. I find it sad that these most of these athletes who dedicate years of their lives do not even get a fraction of the opportunities that Meryl and Charlie get so I don’t blame them for taking advantage of these offers.
