Private Members Area – Do You Have Some Questions For Sharna Burgess For A New Interview?
Hey All!! Do you have some questions you’d like to ask Sharna about Dancing With The Stars and Charlie White??
If so, let us know in comments and then we’ll select about 3 to 5 questions to send to her. Thanks so much!!!
xxx
Here’s a combo question for both:
For Charlie, now that you’ve seen a lot of the dances performed on the show, which one are you most looking forward to doing, or which do you have the most reservations about?
For Sharna, of the remaining dances that are usually done on the show, which one are you most looking forward to doing with Charlie?
I’m really looking forward to an Argentine Tango from you two. You’ve been amazing together on the show and such a joy to watch every week.
Perfect Cids! THANKS!! 😉 x
For Sharna – Has she faced any difficulty this season coming up with a routine for Charlie that would challenge him to the best of his abilities?
YW, Vogue. There were other things I’d really like to hear Sharna’s views on as well, but I’m not going to become an Erin Andrews clone. I want them to enjoy answering our questions.
Sharna’s a passionate person and proud of Charlie’s accomplishments. So I imagine she’s seething inside about the scores and nit-picking they’ve been getting), but I don’t want to make either her or Charlie uncomfortable or put them in an awkward position of having to say something PC, or worse yet, force them to defend The Stooges.
OOh, Oooh, I just thought of another one! Is it challenging sometimes having to share rehearsal space with Meryl and Maks? I know all four of you get along just fine, but how do you keep from bumping into each other and how do you divide up the time so both of you can rehearse to your music tracks?
I have a question for Sharna. I’m curious about the dances that have been chosen for Charlie thus far. We’ve only seen him in one “traditional” ballroom dance (meaning one where you have to remain in hold), the Tango. I happen to believe he would KILL the quick step and fox trot and I would LOVE to see him do one of the waltzes. What are your thoughts on the styles he’s been given and is there one dance style you are DYING to choreograph for him?
Oops, just saw the Cidra basically asked the same question I did. My bad. Should have read closer. Sorry about that.
I suppose you can ask her how she feels about working with a legitimate contender in Charlie versus someone like Andy who has limited dance ability, and how she approaches her partners differently – does she feel even more challenged to harness all of the potential Charlie has, or was there greater pressure to compensate for Andy’s shortcomings?
Or something like that, haha.
Can you ask her about Charlie doing that solo bumper with the penguins on Disney night? How did it happen? Who’s idea was it? When did you find out? Did you choreograph it? When the H*LL did he have time to learn it?
I wish there was an edit feature so I didn’t look like an idiot posting so many different responses here, but:
1) What is your process in coming up with the choreography? Do you work ahead so that you’re ready to go on Tuesday morning rehearsals? I remember hearing Charlie say that you would come in with all the details worked out, so I’m wondering how that process works?
2) Also, have you ever had to change choreography once you started teaching it? Make is simpler or harder?
3) How do you decide on costuming choices? Is it all your concept? Does your celeb partner have any input? Or is it left up to the designers/costumers to come up with something?
Hi Angie,
We can create a login for private members like you. It will only give you the ability to comment, but then you should be able to edit your own comments I think. Let me know if you want to be the guinea pig and try it.
Hey John. that would be AWESOME! I tend to think in a stream of consciousness type method but in short bursts, which is how I ended up with multiple posts here on this thread.
I’m not sure how active I’ll be able to keep myself if my pony goes home (my heart will be broken & I might have to go pout about it for a while) but being able to edit a post would be terrific while my Charlie is still killing himself to get more than that one measly 10 (altho it WAS from Len, so at least that’s something).
You are all so awesome. Fantastic questions! I am planning to send her questions tonight. So, if you think of more, keep them coming! Thanks again All! x
Ok, I’m HOPING this will be the last post in this thread from me. I feel like I’ve come in and overwhelmed the place. *sheepish*
1) So, this isn’t so much a question as a request to pass along to Sharna in regards to costuming . . . IF you ever get a Waltz, Viennese Waltz or Fox Trot, I would LOVE to see Charlie in tails. Go back and look at some of his SD performances from the past few years and the boy cuts quite the dashing figure in tux & tails.
2) I’m also hoping that you can find the right combination of style/choreography & music to help highlight the intensity and drama Charlie can bring. I feel like in almost every dance we’ve seen (with the exception of the Tango and to some extent, the contemporary), we’ve been seeing mostly “Charlie” come through in the dance, which is FANTASTIC. He IS a ray of sunshine and makes us smile, BUT he spent the past decade, and the last 5 years especially, being the partner with the “dramatic flair” on the ice. It sounds to me like that’s what Carrie Ann is waiting to see. I’m hopeful that this week’s Paso will be that “breakthrough” performance I think they’re waiting for. Hopefully, you didn’t get hosed on the music selection.
3) I miss seeing you on Afterbuzz TV. You have always been an AWESOME guest and I’ve loved hearing your honest opinions about the show, the celebs and the other pros. So, I’m conflicted. I’d LOVE to see you on to be able to talk about working with Charlie and how it feels to have someone with his skill set to choreograph for BUT, I also hope you continue to be MUCH too busy to be able to get booked on the show.
4) Finally, and this IS a question, is there some small place, in the back of your mind, where you are starting to percolate ideas about a Freestyle? I don’t want to jinx anything, but I am DYING to see what you can do with all the rules thrown out the window AND getting your own music choices. A BIG part of me wants to see you be able to do a full-on, full length contemporary piece with/for Charlie.
Good luck to you both and I’m pulling HARD to see you in the finals this year.
I am hoping I can word this in a way she will answer, as someone else said, without sticking to the usual PC
I would like to know from Sharna, if the judges truly do judge the stars individually and how they perform the choreography given to them, doesn’t she feel as though Charlie has deserved better scores in at least 2 of his dances. I would also like her to answer whether she thinks some of the comments, sometimes mis-leading, that the judges throw out there for whatever reason, has a large or small impact on how the audience votes.
And Charlie, I would like to know what his 2 favorite dances are that he’s done and is there one he really loves, he hasn’t done yet? Would also like to know what surprised him the MOST about doing DWTS.
Compliments to them both for the choreo and especially Charlie’s dancing. I feel as though they should have been #1 on the leaderboard since week 1.
Hey John,
If you want a second guinea pig to test the login that allows us to edit our comments, I’d sure be game! Pretty-please. *bats eyelashes*
Angie and Vogue, I think you could easily combine our first 2 questions about dances into one like this for Sharna:
For Sharna, What are your thoughts on the styles Charlie’s been given so far (varied enough or too similar in tone, which was most difficult to choreograph, etc.), and of the remaining dances that are usually done on the show, which one are you most looking forward to doing with Charlie?
Angie, I absolutely agree about wanting to see these two do more of the traditional ballroom dances. They would look divine doing a Viennese Waltz…and a big yes to Charlie in tails! They use tail coats quite a bit on the UK version of DWTS, and it gives the men such a debonair and elegant air.
Vogue, I’d like to add one more question.
Sharna, Lately we’ve seen celebs wearing a lot of non-standard footwear instead of the traditional Latin and ballroom shoes. Do you think that’s a good idea? There’s some discussion that proper footwear makes it easier for the celeb to get the proper technique (e.g., heels helping them stay on the balls of their feet instead of dancing flatfooted). And do you want Charlie to rehearse in traditional footwear or do you let him wear whatever his feet are comfortable in?
Perfect Guys! You’ve all come up with such great questions for her. We’ve just sent 5 of them with some of them combined above to try and get as many questions in as we could. Thanks again so much. Too fun! xx
Thanks, Vogue, you’re so good to us and patient on top of it all! We’re like a bunch of kids at the ice cream store, always clammoring for attention. 😛 I felt a bit guilty because I kept coming back and adding questions, but there are so many things I’d love to ask the lovely, remarkable, talented Sharna. Now I’ll sit back like a good girl and wait for when she has time to respond.
Hey Cidra #20. YOU’VE feel guilty with all the additional question posts? Have you SEEN what I ended up doing? Felt like a COMPLETE nincompoop.
And Charlie in tails is a truly divine sight. 2011 SD to Stauss; 2012 FD to Die Fledermaus and this year’s SD to “My Fair Lady.” LOVED THEM!
REALLY want to know why he and Sharna haven’t gotten the more traditional ballroom dances.
Vogue, I’m excited to see Sharna’s replies, just as soon as she has a spare second or two. 🙂
LOL, Angie — you’re not a nincompoop, just someone who’s got a lot going on in her brain.
Yes, Charlie in tails is definitely *yummmm*. I know some folks don’t find the traditional ballroom dances exciting, but if creatively choreographed (sticking mostly with the rules to please Len but adding some modern flair and showmanship for the viewers), the ballroom numbers could be big hits for Charlie in the semi-finals and finals. I’m going on the assumption that he’ll continue to do well enough with the Latin dances and have sufficient vote support to make the finals.
lol Thanks Cidra. I’d like to think it was a lot going on in my brain and not slow waning of any mental acumen I may have ever possessed. That old saying, “with age comes wisdom?” Not so much with me and the wisdom/eloquence/clarity. Every day I have more of those moments of walking into a room and stopping to try and remember WHY I just walked into the room. *sigh* It is a sad, slow decline.
I’m hoping and PRAYING that maybe TPTB holding out on Quick Step, Fox Trot & Waltz for Charlie is to LET him totally shine in the semi’s and finals (if one were to believe in that sort of behind the scenes shenanigans. :-0)
I happen to LOVE the traditional ballroom stuff and would REALLY like to see them go back to have just 2 styles of dances each week, with 1 set of couples getting ballroom and the other getting the Latin. I’d also like to see them save contemporary and jazz for later in the season once we’ve seen how the celebs actually handle the dances with strict rules, required steps and having to learn how to hold their frame. THEN, let them have that freedom of contemporary and jazz to really wow the audience.
You guys had fantastic questions and the more the better that we can use in the future too! No apologies necessary and thanks again. xx
Oh and Angie and Cids, yum to Charlie from this end too and how I’d love to see him in TAILS as well!!
Angie, I’m just on the “experienced” side of 50, yet I frequently do the “what the heck did I just come in here for?” thing.
I’m with you 100% on wishing the show would return to the 2-dance-styles-each week model (one Latin, one ballroom) and, as you suggest, save jazz and contemporary for the quarter- or semi-finals when those left have proved their mettle with the “traditional” dances and “earned” the chance to wow us. Sadly, I don’t see that happening. However, we can always hope.
Vogue, thanks for reassuring us that we weren’t being pests. Glad you’re with us on the Charlie in tails “yum wagon”. 😉
Oh my goodness! She got the answers back to us already…and it’s so cool for how she answered them. STAY TUNED!!! 😉
I have to tell you this for now: She also gives us a HINT to what Charlie’s hair will be like on Monday…. SLICKED!!!
lol so cute!!!
Oh dear. I was not a big fan of the “slick” look onthe rhumba but I’ll try to reserve judgement.
But YAY for such a fast turn around. She ROCKS!’
Yeah, let’s trust her. The slick look would be cool for a Paso.
I think it might be better this time if it’s slicked BACK instead of straight DOWN – it just looked like he had sooooo much gel in his hair the last time, and it was just weighing it down. Slicked back might give more of a suave, James Dean-type look.
But yes, Sharna is AWESOME 😀 Glad she could take time out of what is undoubtedly a ridiculous rehearsal schedule to indulge us!
Wow, Sharna’s such a sweetie for responding to our questions so quickly! Can’t wait to see how she answered them.
Aaargh!!!! NOT the hair gel again! 😡 Ok, I’ll calm down and try to be good, like Angie, and reserve judgment.
Vogue — please let our beloved Sharna know that while we respect her immensely, we prefer Charlie’s golden mane flowing not fettered.
OK, Court, we’re going to send you to LA to do Charlie’s hair.
*grabs hairdryer* I iz ready!!!! Send de plane…:-)
ROFL — OK, I’ll “borrow” one and fly right over to pick you up 😛
lollllll
