ABC Releases Official Details For Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Week 7
ABC MediaNet has released official details for Dancing With The Stars this coming Monday!! Below is some info about Ricky Martin being a guest judge and helping to open the show. Also some dance details (for what we already know)…
Episode 1807” – Grammy® winner Ricky Martin joins “Dancing with the Stars” for “Latin Night” MONDAY, APRIL 28 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Martin kicks-off the night with a show-stopping opening performance of his 2014 World Cup song “Vida” accompanied by the Pro Dancers. He will then join Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba as a guest judge for the evening. Each couple will perform an individual dance to a song with a Latin theme. Additionally, the competition will include two Latin inspired team dances. At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination.
More at ABC MediaNet.
Just two quick thoughts:
1.) Does Ricky Martin just have a list of Spanish words that he chooses from when it’s time to write a song? Because it seems like everything is “Blah blah blah VIDA” or “Blah blah blah Loca”. He seems particularly fond of the word “vida”.
2.) “Each couple will perform an individual dance to a song with a Latin theme”? Not Charlie…his song isn’t Latin-sounding in the slightest, nor is the artist Latino. Unless the band is doing some serious tweaking, the song he’s dancing to is about as Latin as macaroni & cheese.
Then they can yell at Sharna for the dance not feeling Latin enough, or even richer, they can yell at Charlie for it.
Oh jeez, Court, you’re scaring me! So Charlie has to Paso to a non-Latin song by a non-Latino artist on Latin Night. Great, that’ll make it really easy for him to get into the character of the dance. This will be just the opening the Stooges need to heap crap on him. Len, in particular, will probably look right at Charlie and take him to task for the lack of “Latin” in his Latin night dance, and act as if Charlie’s the one who picked the song. Whom did Sharna piss off during the off-season? They slyly give her the best male celeb in the season so she thinks she’s got a chance at making the finals and then find a way to undercut them every week.
LOL, Jess, great minds think alike.
Ha ha Cidra. You made a comment somewhere else early in the week that I loved about Meryl being busy keeping her big baby in his happy place. Our minds may go in the same place often but you have a way with words!
He does, Court (surprisingly lol). Here are my faves (all ballads). These are beautiful. I would die and go to heaven if any of the couples danced to these…
Come To Me
She’s All I Ever Had
Private Emotion
He did this one with Madonna….
Be Careful
Thanks, Jess, but you say the same thing in 1 sentence while it takes me at least 5. Maybe I need to spend a lot of time on Twitter paring down my prose. 😉
I will say this: Charlie’s song is very DRAMATIC. It’s just not Latin – I guess whether he gets a great score or a sh*tty score depends solely on whether or not the judges are really adhering to this “Latin night” bull. I can picture Ricky sitting there going “Wow, it was a great dance…but I thought I was here for Latin night?”
I’m hoping they don’t adhere to the “this is Latin night” idea. Last season, Latin night featured three jives – not really Latin, even in relation to Paso! Last week, on party anthem night, the judges didn’t really talk about how much the song is a party anthem, so I hope the judges don’t Mark him down for not really having a Latin song.
Courtney, now you have me extra intrigued about the dances/songs next week!
I feel like if the judges are really going to adhere to the “latin night” theme, and ream Charlie for not having enough latin flavor in the dance, then Charlie might be able to get a good score (say, like all 9s for 36 or a little higher), but probably not a 40. I’m a little bit worried about Carrie Ann’s “we need to see a surprise from them” statement in her Parade blog. I feel like paso double can be a breakthrough for Charlie because he’s moving away from the “really happy” dances that he tends to do, but if he gets saddled by the “it’s not latin enough”, then it will be a real shame.
Agreed, though, that I think Ricky Martin will probably be a stickler for latin night because I am not too familiar with him, but I believe he is a Latin song singer.
*paso doble, darn autocorrect!
Oh Vogue..do you think there is any chance Derek and Amy might dance rumba to “he’s All I Ever Had” I LOOVE that song too.
Oh great… Charlie gets saddled with a crappy song yet again.
Wouldn’t surprise me if he got a Paso to “Can’t be Tamed” by Miley Cyrus and everyone else got songs by Shakira, Enrique Iglesias and Celia Cruz. Poor guy can’t catch a break. I was hoping he would get some authentic Paso music which would help his matador side come out but, guess not.
Courtney, are we going to be spoiled with a list of all dances and songs in the upcoming days? 🙂 Understandable if not, but… a guy can dream.. lol
Cidra, I’m perfectly guilty of typing paragraphs long comments, and they never contain even a hint of wit, sarcasm yes, wit no. I love it when people can be witty. I also love Court’s satire.
@jess – And warm fuzzies here too 🙂 xoxo
Court, has Charlie’s song been used on the show before?
I guess there’s faint comfort that it’s at least “very dramatic”. *sigh*
Hope nobody ambushes Charlie with a bottle of hair gel again. I think having his glorious golden hair flying around would add drama to the performance.
@Cidra – Nope, never been used before. And I hope he manages to avoid the gel, too – that slicked-down hair made him look like both Peta (who he was dancing with at the time) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson’s character in The Hunger Games). Just let the lion hair fly, kiddo 😛
Oh Raine, how I’d love that too!!! I love love that song too!
Thanks, Court, for the music info. I suppose that’s a good thing, but it means I don’t have any guesses as to what song it might be. **hrrmph**
Dang, but you’re right…I immediately got the twins look with Charlie and Peta in their rumba, but now that you mention it, Charlie *did* look like Peeta from The Hunger Games. Wish I’d seen it at the time because it would have made the dance feel less incestuous.
There’s so much good Spanish guitar music out there that would make a really fantastic Latin Paso.
I guess they can’t use proper music with the proper dances. The world might stop turning or something.
Susan2, you’re such an old fuddy-duddy 🙄 😛 . Didn’t you get the memo? DWTS is trying to appeal to the young demo! So naturally they have to use music the kiddos can relate to, like the recent chart-topping sensation “You’re the One that I Want” (note the heavy sarcasm)
That said, I’d give a good bottle of Spanish Burgundy to have some proper music to go with the proper dance. Maybe we can suggest “Retro DWTS Night” where all the dances are proper ballroom/Latin with the correct music.
Cidra, I was just thinking that!! I was longing for the good old days of the right music going with the right dances – actual BALLROOM dances, at that!
I seem to remember Davis-White dancing a paso short dance a few years ago. Charlie had his hair in a ponytail with a ribbon and he was wearing a matador costume.
Hey, PH, a “Retro DWTS Night” might actually work as a concept for S19. What a great way to introduce the new chief puppeteer since he’s a DWTS Alum returning to the ballroom! If PureDWTS wasn’t on the show’s blacklist for speaking the truth and trying to expose TPTB’s excessive manipulation, you could pitch that idea to the new guy.
Since we’ve said it, consider it pitched. If you know what I mean. 😀
