Tom Bergeron Interviewed About The Future Of Dancing With The Stars And More

For a cool new Dancing With The Stars interview with Tom Bergeron, see the Hollywood Reporter. He discusses working with new co-host Erin Andrews, season 18’s Partner Switch Up, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, the future of the show, and more. Below is a take…. and now it’s show time! More later!

With show runner Conrad Green leaving after this season, it’ll be the end of a DWTS era. I need to make sure: Will you still be around as long as the show’s still around?

I’m under contract for two more seasons, so I’m here at least through the spring of next year.

How do you see the show changing, if at all?

It’s hard to know. I’m sure we’re on in the fall — they’ll announce that formally very soon, I would imagine. We’re up year to year, which is unusual for a show that’s so long-term. So I would think we’ve at least got those two seasons, and we’ll see what happens after that. I still have fun. I love working on the show and I love the people. But I’m also a realist about television shows and typical life spans. I’ve been fortunate both with this and America’s Funniest Videos, which I’ve decided to wrap up after next season. By that point I will have done this for 15 years. That’s crazy! If you didn’t have these shows working simultaneously, that’s like a quarter century of network television.

DWTS Season 18, Week 8 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show (Spoilers)

Okay, due to heavy traffic, we have to institute a few ground rules for tonight show. Most of these are good rules ALL OF THE TIME, and are basic netiquette.

  1. DO NOT hitrefresh every few seconds – in fact, do not hit refresh every five minutes! Read, comment if you like, then walk away from the computer for five to ten minutes. I know this is hard, but it will prevent others from losing their minds trying to read and/or update the site.
  2. DO NOT use the comment section like it’s twitter – it’s not twitter. Make an actual comment with context of who you’re talking about, who you’re talking to (if it applies), etc. Context, and more than one line. If you break this rule more than one time, I start deleting. If you do it a couple times, you’ll find yourself on moderation.  Perhaps for life. 🙂  Keep in mind that if you can’t follow this rule, I can make you follow it.
  3. Try very hard to keep the ugly to a minimum. Think before you post. If you’ve been called out previously on this blog for your behavior, this will be extra important because there’s only so much I will tolerate. I’m not talking about differing opinions, I’m talking about nasty. If I get the sense that you are purposely trolling  (look it up if you’re not sure), I will just block you. No warning other than this one.

Okay, that’s all I can think of. Let the games begin. Take a drink every time ALM is a mean ole beyotch and you’ll really enjoy the show! 😀

Court here, filling in for Heidi, who is running a tad late 🙂 Is it just me, or is Mark sounding an awful lot like Robin Thicke these days?

Oh, I see Abby Lee has her happy face on tonight…NOT.
Good to see Charlie is safe. Mama Spence, however, is worried that Sharna’s bewbs are gonna fall out of her dress during their quickstep.

Charlie kills the quickstep, and both Len & Abby go in for the kill. Tonight is gonna be a loooong night, I’m afraid.

Ok, happy that Charlie got that long-overdue 40, but did anyone else think those were the most incongruous scores/critiques EVER??! The way they were critiquing, I was expecting 8’s. Why pick someone apart if you’re gonna give them a 10? Kinda defeats the purpose…

ETA 1:  Heidi here – I’m back!!  Is it my imagination or are these dances really short. Perhaps it’s just that Danica’s dance took so long to get started.  Ha! Len just copied me. 🙂

Meryl and Maks – Rumba or contemporary? I saw rumba content, but they were skating awfully close to the edge there.   Of course Bruno loves it.  Lord, I’m tired of hearing about their chemistry – and is that CAI justifying her good comments?? She’s recalling Charlie’s rumba – and she’s right about that.  Len’s coming down with CAI…and ABL needs to be put out of our misery. Seriously. LOL…sickled feet. Beyotch – bite me.  Maks: “Can we go now.”  Come on MAKS – if ever you were going to spout off, NOW is the time!!!

ALERT….ALERT…ALERT….for the next 10 minutes I’m going to be a Maks fan.  I might even declare this “Maks day” on the blog. Seriously – MOST of the time I hate his spouting off, but I think this time was beyond appropriate.

ETA 2: I knew Mark would give Candace a good dance to that song. Very nice.  One or two tiny rough spots, but I loved it.

ETA 3: So a Derek fan just asked me if his critics would comment about Val’s smoke machine. :::crickets:::  LOL – as if.

ETA 4: Wait…so Meryl gets an 8 from ALM, but JAMES gets a 10?? And we thought CAI judged with her vajayjay.  Lord have mercy.  I’m okay with Meryl getting an 8 for that….but in that case, James should have had a 7, not a 10.

OMG, Amy and Derek…perfection. And I rarely use that to describe anyone.  But I have to comment on Derek’s face. He was working up a good head of PISSED OFF on Amy’s behalf. I’ve been watching that boy for a long time, but that was his “You diss my girl, I kick your asssss” face. 🙂  I think it’s very good thing for ALM that she didn’t take any unwarranted shots at him.   Anyway, that was a kick ass AT – I expect nothing less from Derek Hough.

ETA 5: Well, can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I think Meryl and Danica got a bit hosed.  Of course, that song is the worst thing I’ve heard on this show in a while, so there’s that too. I tried to block it out and just look at the dancing and I didn’t think it was as bad as 8’s. All 9’s would have been more appropriate.

ETA 6: Wow wow wow….Candace and Charlie!! Excellent dance. I wonder if the producers will blur Sharna’s lips in the skybox for the west coast. 😀   Love it Sharna, keep it coming.

ETA 7: Ouch – that fall was kinda bad…and Derek’s face. And again, I  have to go to Derek’s face during the judging – I don’t know if he realizes it, but he has a face when Abby is talking that says he’s either pissed or disgusted – not sure which. He was pretty vehement a few years ago in his criticism of ALM, either he or Mark called her teaching style “child abuse” and it appears to me that he’s not had a change of heart on that one.

Man…I don’t want any of them to go home at this point.

And the eliminee is….Danica. I’m sad to say I called this one correctly.  🙁  I had no trouble with the site tonight, so I think that means our readers all behaved themselves -thanks ya’ll.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Before taking the stage at the House of Blues, which she sold out, she confirmed that she will be performing on the Dancing With The Stars season finale. “Oh you heard about that,” she said. “I had to actually move a show day for that.”

Danica McKellar Won’t Let The Pain Ruin Her Tango On Dancing With The Stars

Danica McKellar says she won’t let the pain from her injury last week ruin their Tango on Dancing With The Stars. Val Chmerkovskiy said “he is going to tailor the dance to her injury.” From ABC

For celebrity duel night, also the quarterfinal round, McKellar told ABC News Radio she isn’t going to let the pain from the injury ruin the tango she and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, have planned.

Chmerkovskiy said he is going to tailor the dance to her injury.

“We’re just going to have to be creative, choreographically, and very careful when we’re working,” he told ABC. “But I definitely don’t want to tone it down, it’s like finish line, pretty much. We’re almost there. We can’t afford to make it too simple.”

Dancing With The Stars Peta Murgatroyd Writes On James Maslow, The Duel Dance, And More

Peta Murgatroyd has written a new blog at People. She gives us some teasers for tonight. Read on and be sure to read the link for more.

James is looking really great this week. He’s loving the more romantic dances. I think he’s really embracing the emotion, which is cool. And then we have the dance duel with Amy [Purdy] and Derek [Hough], which has been interesting. We started a day late because we didn’t know whether Amy was going to be able to dance after her injury. But she’s absolutely fine, and she’s been such a trouper in keeping up with it.

We’ve got the jive with them, and we’ve both done the jive before, so we’re going to collaborate on our different jives that we’ve done and sort of mold them into one. Derek and I have some really great ideas for it.

The celebrities have to dance together for 20 seconds by themselves! James is jiving with Amy, which is so cool because it’s a different experience for him. He has to take even more of the role of a leading man and he has to really be stable for Amy, and it just makes him more aware of himself and his partner. I think it’s a really great lesson for him.

He’s learning a lot about himself and his balance points as well. He’s really got to impress [judge] Len [Goodman] this week. It’s crunch time. He needs to get a nine or 10 from Len on this Viennese Waltz. It needs to be so clean and so crisp and precise that it just blows them away. This week is a lot for James, but I think he can do it.

DWTS18 Interviews With Mark Ballas And Candace Cameron Bure, Comments On Amy Purdy

Below is a new Dancing With The Stars rehearsal interview with Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas from People. Candace talks of being a perfectionist and what Dancing With The Stars is all about. She’s also excited she’s made it this far in the competition and has exceeded her expectations. Lots more below…and Marks chats too. Be watching People later too as Candace may post a new blog.

“I guess I have some perfectionistic qualities when it comes to my own performance. I’m learning to lower my own expectations as far as having unrealistic expectations of myself.”

But the former Full House star, whose partner is Mark Ballas, said that she’s exceeded her own expectations about how far she’d make it in the competition.

“I’m thrilled to death to have made it through to week eight,” she explained. “My personal goal was week six, so I am pumped! After next week is the semi-finals, so of course I would love to make it through to the end, but I’m kind of laughing, because if I do make it, I know that I’m the dark horse in the race.”

Candace chatted with E Online over the weekend as well. Note how she comments on Amy Purdy and how she’s pushing through. When asked whether Amy was dancing tonight, Candace said, “so far, so good”. See this E Online link for more. There is a video here too.

ETA: TV Guide has a new interview up with Candace too. Below she comments on she and Mark’s new dance and making it into the top six. More at TV Guide.

Are you surprised you’ve made it to the final six?
Cameron Bure: Of course when you know you’re competing, initially I’m like, of course I’d love to win. We’re all competing. But my personal goal was to make it to Week 6. That was my goal. So the fact that I’m at Week 8, I’m kind of chuckling to myself. I’m surprised, and I think it’s fantastic. I’m just laughing because I was hoping that I would make it all the way, but I kind of didn’t expect myself to. So at this point, every week from here on out, it’s just like an added bonus.

What are you guys working on for this week?
Cameron Bure: We have the foxtrot this week. It’s fun and quirky and sassy. We have a really fun, great song. … It’s really cute, but today we worked on our duo dance the whole day, and we have to continue that tomorrow as well. So, I won’t even start doing the foxtrot again until [Friday] evening, and I won’t have much time. I’m trying not to freak out about it!

Meryl Davis And Charlie White Interviewed In St. Paul, Minnesota About Ice Dancing, DWTS, And More

Meryl Davis and Charlie White were touring this weekend. ABC5 in St.Paul, Minnesota were able to catch up with them. They discussed “Stars On Ice”, their schedule, “Dancing With The Stars”, and more. You can see them skating too. Beautiful!!

ETA: Also, be sure to see USA Today for a new interview with them. Below is take for how they don’t feel like they are rivals on Dancing With The Stars….

We don’t really feel as though we’re competing against each other,” Davis said. “We’ve both trained together since we were so young, and now we’re just taking this journey together as well.”

White and Davis aren’t letting the fact that they’re dancing across from different partners affect their team unity.

“I think there is really no other way to see each other,” White said. “Even with other partners, we both feel like we’re in this together. It’s not one of us against the other.”

The duo, who’ve been training together since the age of eight and nine, are competitive pros. So, you’d think that, after winning World Championships and getting gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, mastering some ballroom dance steps should be a relative breeze.

Not so, says White. Their days on Dancing are hardly any easier than training for Olympic competition. In fact, they train harder these days than they did for Sochi.

“For the Olympics, we trained five days a week. Here, we train five hours a day, for seven days a week,” says Davis.

Their Olympic experience does give them one huge advantage, though. “So much of what goes into the performance; the pressure, the audience, it’s live, that helps us out. We know how to calm the nerves when the pressure is on,” White explained.

Even with the long days and blistered feet, the duo have yet to find anything negative about the experience. Working with DWTS host Erin Andrews has also been an unexpected bonus.
