DWTS Season 18, Week 9: Who’s Dancing What…and When?? (SPOILERS)
Yay!! Another Macy’s Stars of Dance!! Yay, a real guest judge in Kenny Ortega!! Should be a great night of dancing all the way around.
James should do pretty well with Cha Cha and Rumba, I think, although I hope Peta doesn’t get to raunchy. Charlie will probably be beautiful on the Foxtrot, but the Samba worries me a bit. Candace pulled two great dances for herself, her only problem is that Amy is also doing Jazz and Meryl is also doing V. Waltz – could be problematic. Meryl will be great, as usual – hopefully Maks keeps the choreo level high. I no longer worry about Amy at all. What happens, happens. Derek is excited about the quickstep, so that’s enough for me. However it goes, she’s a winner.
ETA: Well, lookie what @DWTSGossip found!!

I’ve tried looking for it and I seem to not be able to find it…did I miss one of those awesome song prediction posts for American Icons night on Monday?
Don’t thinks she is icon, but bet they use a beyonce song. They already have used them before and song recycling is common. We know there will be no Prince songs, though he is an icon. He only approved it last time because it was for Nicole. I do hope by icon they really mean it. I see LA Reid visiting and he is behind some great acts. But no current pop stars like Rihanna for icon. We’ll see. I say bring some boyz ii men song. Longest running number one singles of all time are both their songs.
This will be Meryl you are back in it to win it week.
I actually think James got saddled with the worst dances for Monday night (basing this on his strengths). I fear his ChaCha might end up looking like his Samba (perhaps less sexy). I do have high hopes for his Rumba but Len is so picky with Rumbas that having one in the semifinal and not pleasing him is very dangerous. Hope he proves me way wrong though. still VERY upset because he did not get an Arg. Tango. Ugh. Also, this may just be me, but I think the reason why James is suddenly going a bit downhill while Candace is going up is because James got dances that suit him earlier in the season and then started getting dances that aren’t his strength. And Candace got dances that did not suit her earlier in th season (ChaCha, Rumba) and is now gettig dances that suit her (Foxtrot, V. Waltz, Jazz). Just a thought I had, idk 😛
Meryl is likely to kill the Viennese Waltz but I actually worry about her Jive a bit, but even if she doesn’t do that well in it the judges will probably still go gaga over it.
Charlie will absolutely dominate the Foxtrot and is the dance I am most looking forward to tomorrow. His Samba though.. that worries me, but I think he can do a decent job in it.
I stopped doubting Amy a long time ago so I think she’ll nail her QS (can’t wait to see her dance with her running feet) and her Jazz will be fantastic.
Candace got the best dances, imo and also the worst ones. Best ones because they suit her and what she is capable of doing. The Viennese Waltz is elegant and pretty and I think she is good with dances like that after seeing her Foxtrot. And Jazz? She’ll probably do great. The reason why those dances are also the worst ones is because Meryl and Amy also have them and if she goes after them, the judges will undoubtedly compare her to the other two.
Can’t wait for tomorrow night!
I don’t know how I feel about Amy getting the dance jazz. It’s a bit unfair that she’s done all four of the “special dances” (contemporary, jazz, salsa, swing) and with the Argentine Tango, all 5 dances that allow lifts. Not denying her talent, but seeing as though everyone else has only done 2-3 of those dances, seems unfair to me.
I must be missing something. Since when did salsa become a “special” dance?
All dances are a challenge for Amy. Remember she has “no feet”. She is amazing and an inspiration. By the way I do not vote for because of pity but because she shows me every week what someone can do if they put their mind to it.
And Meryl has done Contemporary twice. Oh that’s rite she was suppose to dance a foxtrot and rumba.
It is not unfair, Blueberry, the lifts are likely just as hard for Derek and Amy than the dancing, if not even harder. She is a DOUBLE AMPUTEE.
My initial impressions upon hearing the dance assignments:
Amy and Derek, Quickstep and Jazz: Both should be phenomenal. Really looking forward to these! One concern though, Derek’s blog on Thursday or Friday I believe said that they hadn’t started their jazz yet..? Could it just be a delay in posting the blog like he wrote it on wednesday but it didn’t post until friday?
James and Peta, Cha Cha Cha and Rumba: I have a feeling cha cha will be good for James, but it’s unfortunate for him to get rumba at this point in the competition imo … to me, rumbas are probably some of the hardest dances to do authentically and get those near perfect scores because it’s all about technique and emotional execution.
Charlie and Sharna, Foxtrot and Samba: Foxtrot is going to slay, I’m sure, but I’m worried about Samba a little bit ngl. I remember Evan and Anna’s samba was pretty bad (scored 21 I believe), but then again, Charlie probably has better hip action than Evan did.
Candace and Mark, V. Waltz and Jazz: V. Waltz and jazz are the best choices she could have gotten, imo, but like others, I think it’s a little bit of a disadvantage to overlap dances with Meryl and Amy of all contestants.
Meryl and Maks, V. Waltz and Jive: I have no doubt her V. Waltz will be good since she is so graceful (the only thing is if Maks doesn’t put enough choreography in it). Her jive should be good I think (judging by her swing back in week 2), but the only possible problem is timing and synchronicity.
Here we go again with the Amy has an unfair advantage crap. Are you people for real???
I think everyone will do well with their assigned dances, including James.
The pic of Amy and Derek is adorable.
At this point all it’s best to do is ignore those who badmouth Amy and just enjoy her dances. That’s what I’ll be doing because the hate is unbelieveable.
I love both pictures of Amy. So cute! Now I had this bad vision of Derek stepping on Amy’s prosthetic feet D: Ok, bad thoughts leave my head.. they shall nail the QS.
Rose1, I agree. How can a woman with two prosthetic legs have an advantage over professional dancers & all with their own legs? There is no logic in that argument.
I’m with you PJ.
:::sigh::: Boo fucking hoo, it’s so unfair the girl with no legs got special dances while the ice DANCERS with their legs intact….well, you get my drift. FYI, Salsa is NOT a “special dance” – neither is swing as it’s been done over the years on DWTS, in different variations and the pros are familiar with it. Guess who else got “special” dances? Charlie. He got Jazz and contemporary, the ONLY special dances on the show. Charlie even did contemporary TWICE – it’s a dance that suits him very much. As for Meryl – she’s lucky she DIDN’T get the “special” dances other than Swing and Salsa because her partner can’t choregraph outside of the box in styles he’s not trained in.
FAIR?? You’re complaining about what dances Amy got and it’s fairness?? Sanity check. And go read the rest of the site before commenting – I’m not having this stupid argument yet again. You’re just upset that the girl with no legs is dancing nearly as good as the ringers.
Katie N. – Salsa became a “special” dance when a bunch of people who don’t know what they’re talking about started posting on this site.
Touche PJ!! LOL 🙂
And Len didn’t give her a seven for her non rumba or non foxtrot. Which despite those saying Derek is favored got 7s from Len. Also never called out Maks repetitive choreo. We get it, Maks. Meryl can spin.
As a die-hard Meryl fan, I reached my annoyance level a long time ago in regards to seeing other fans say negative things. It’s one thing to air at your grievances about another contestant on your own fb/twitter page … but when you seek out the celebrities personal pages, it takes it to a level I don’t want to be associated with.
I’m just grateful to be able to watch this journey that Meryl is on – no matter what the outcome will be. I wish other fans would do the same. If they spent less energy worrying about out contestants and just allowing themselves to enjoy what we have – they’d find themselves appreciating the season for what it is and live for the time we have been fortunate for.
Sorry, needed to add to my post above because I don’t think I made myself clear…
My annoyance level has passed seeing fellow Meryl fans seek out Amy’s page in particular (I’ve not gone to her page myself, just reading/hearing from others) and spewing negativity.
Although I have my difference of opinion with many on this site, one thing I definitely agree on is that the negativity stems out of fear that Amy could cost Meryl the MBT. Prior to the season, I don’t think anyone knew how good Amy would turn out to be. As weeks have gone on and she’s continued to progress – she’s proven to be a force to be reckoned with.
Personally, I’d be happy for ANY of the remaining contestants to take it home this season, I genuinely think they are all THAT good.
This adds nothing to the discussion but I just have to say Candace sure is perrrrty in that pic. *Exhales with a big smile*
#2 Melissa, Erin and Maks did their Paso to a Prince song.
I remember now, Donna. But still during Nicole’s season. I remember reading he specifically okayed kiss for Nicole only. But wouldn’t surprise me if he only approved the songs that season bc of Nicole. Though Prince did show up on ?New Girl this year so maybe he loosened up or if abc is willing to pony up.
Isnt it weird that its almost showtime and there are no song spoilers out there yet?
@Nathan #19, Candace is a gorgeous woman. She also has a beautiful spirit and it has been a lot of fun watching her journey.
I also believe the last picture of Amy and Derek is sa-mokin.’ I wonder if this could be part of their jazz.
Sharna has beautiful eyes too.
Okay people let’s just get one things straight. All of the remaining contestants have done an excellent job and exemplify talent and skill in all of their dances. I will say this though, Danica should NOT have gone home. AT ALL. I feel like she got jipped and it was unfortunate for her injury. If their was someone else who should’ve gone home I feel it should’ve been James because he lacks footwork, or Candace because I just feel the other dancers are better or more exciting to watch than she is. Not hating on them I’m just saying if their were a choice. Now for the dance choices, I feel like the quickstep is going to be really difficult for Amy if she actually does it and Derek doesn’t do some alternative choreo or something. It seems already like such a hard dance to begin with. Amy is very inspiring and it’s amazing what she can do but idk I do agree with some of the people that her dances are a little eh. Watch her dance the salsa with mark I don’t think their is a lift in that dance and it isn’t that great. Every other dance with Derek has her being picked up and spinned around and her twirling and shaking her hips. It’ll be exciting to see who’s going to be who as of icons. And I truly believe charlie, Amy, and Meryl are top 3 and the MBT should go to Meryl. She’s a really hard worker, looks like one of the pros in some dances, and not only dances it physically but brings the emotional side into play as well. I know a lot of people dislike Maks but he’s been on the show for so long and is a great dancer I feel it’s his turn to win too. No hate on any of them, but obviously hoping for Meryl and Maks to take it all this season! Thanks for your blog! Also hoping Meryl and Maks continue what ever little romance fling they have going on after the show!
Any word on what songs they’re doing? I am curious as to what “Pop Icons” they’ll use. I actually think this theme will be really cool if they do it right.
And not to beat a dying horse – but Quickstep sounds EXTREMELY difficult for someone like Amy to do. And you don’t know how hard Jazz might actually be for her. It might be alot harder for her with her legs then a foxtrot or a samba. No one really knows how difficult any of this is for her because we aren’t in her place so calling unfair seems ridiculous.
Also – I still say that Kenny Ortega might be a dud. On SYTYCD he gets really “Oh that was wonderful” “You are a star” “You’re perfection”…. which gets really grating – so basically he is male Carrie Ann. We’ll see… he’ll definitely be better then the other judges they’ve had. I still stand by that Redfoo was my favorite.
Yo mama, I approved your post THIS TIME, but the next time you open with a sentence like that I will delete it. The rest of your post just gets a big eye roll from me, from the standard “I don’t care for Amy’s dances” right down to the shipper shit regarding Meryl and Maks.
That’s the main point that the Meryl/Maks fans seem to forget (conveniently), Melissa. If Derek had choreographed that dance, Len would have given him a 7 – both on the foxtrot and on the Rumba. You don’t have to look far for examples. Meryl has gotten off easy – which is the definition of pimped.
I disagree yo mama that every dance for Amy is her being lifted by Derek. Just rewatch her dances. That’s like saying ?Meryl just spins or Mark just has Candace shake it each dance. I saw typical Derek critics say if any other pro had their celeb sit on a stool would not be raved. I disagree. I find any other pro had their celeb do that, no one would even care. Really. Derek’s partners are nitpicked than actually praised for his work.
Thanks Jackie – your post allows me to add that I, too, think any of the remaining contestants have earned the MBT. I’d be happy for any of them.
From way back up in the thread (#4, 5, 14)
Salsa isn’t one of the ten International Standard or Latin dances this show specializes in. With that reasoning, contemporary, swing, salsa, Argentine tango, and jazz are the “special dances.” I particuarlay chuckle at “jazz,” because it can be anything from hip hop (Cody) to Broadway (Charlie) to just stomping around (NeNe), with anything and everything in between.
I imagine all the “special” dances were added as they became more popular and fans wanted them.
I’m so happy that Charlie is doing Foxtrot. I think it’ll be one of the best. His posture and frame is so great, sometimes he looks and dances like a pro. I’m not sure about Samba though. It won’t get anything lower than 36, I hope. And I really really hope he’ll make it to the finals so we can see a freestyle from Sharna.
Glad we’re gonna see a jive from Meryl. But I’m more excited about V. Waltz. Maks’ waltzes are usually good, and Meryl has such beautiful lines. I wonder if she can top my favorite V. Waltz(Melissa and Tony in season 15). I think she’ll get a perfect score for that dance. Not sure about Jive.
I think Amy’s jazz will be good. Not sure about Quickstep. I hope we’ll see week 6 Amy, when she did the jive and she’ll be amazing again. But there was a huge backlash(on some of the other websites I read) because of her perfect score. I’m afraid she’s going home.
I don’t think James can nail the Cha cha. Most of the guys look awkward doing cha cha(Charlie is not, of course). And I don’t think he’ll do much dancing in rumba because I don’t like Peta’s rumbas usually but he will be overscored I guess. I hope he’s going home this week.
Candace’s V. Waltz won’t be good, becase of her posture/frame imo. Jazz can be entertaining. She has to let go and have fun.
I’m really looking forward to everyone’s dances this week. These 5 celebs are all excellent dancers as well as being really nice people. This could be a wonderful semi-finals as long as the 3 Stooges don’t act like buzz kills with WTF scoring and nasty comments. I’d also appreciate it if TPTB resist the urge to make everyone miserable with excessive, all-show-long elimination dramatics (but I know that’s probably a vain hope).
It’s going to be really hard to say goodbye to one of these couples at the end of the night. *sigh*
Rolling my eyes at “backlash to Amy’s perfect score on other websites”. Yeah, by a bunch of nonsensical MM fans of which you are definitely one, Tweety. Your passive aggressiveness towards Amy is hilarious and definitely can’t be blamed on the BS language barrier excuse you gave at one point.
In regards to the dances this week:
Amy/Derek: I’ve been waiting to see the blade runners in action this season ever since someone mentioned it in a comment during Jive week. I’m also really excited because Derek’s really excited about their Quickstep and I can only imagine what he has cooked up. Don’t know how to feel about the Jazz other than it’ll probably be awesome as well as they can basically do anything.
James/Peta: James is really attractive in a white bread sort of way so I understand the need to play that up but I hope Peta doesn’t raunch up this week’s dances just for the hell of it. I just remember guffawing out loud when she ripped off her clothes and had that red lingerie on. It just screamed desperation to me and I’d rather see James really rely on good technique instead of nakedness.
Candice/Mark: She’s been getting better these past few weeks but it does suck that she’s the contestant this week where both of her dances are being done by other couples. Mark has been really great this season though so I’m sure he’ll do right by her and hopefully she pulls out both dances and hits it out of the park like Week 1.
Charlie/Sharna: As some of the other commenters have stated, I’m a little worried about Charlie’s samba but he should kill his foxtrot and I think he has the viewer votes to make it to the finals where I think Sharna can choreograph a killer freestyle.
Meryl/Maks: Hopefully the choreography is decent and the dances are nice. That’s about all I got 🙂
I hate to focus on other posters and I’m sure I’m gonna get in trouble for parts of the previous comment but a large portion of one of the couples’ fans are downright rude, nasty, and illogical to another competing couple and it makes me see red. Sorry mods! Remove the comment if necessary
I think people are a little too worried about charlie’s samba. There are lots of samba move’s in team vida’s dance and charlie killed them. If he continues to dance like that he would have no problem killing that samba.
I’m just looking forward to having a more traditional night of DWTS. No kooky theme night, no weird stunts like having the contestants dance over across hot coals while being pursued by ravenous, snarling wolves, no WTF or inappropriate guest judge.
Just a great semi-final with lots of dancing from five likeable celebs. I’m stoked.
Princess Heidi, I really don’t think I had such a bad comment but okay. Thanks for approving despite being so pissed off by it, not what is was going for. Have a good one
Theresa #36, I was one of those who expressed a bit of concern about Charlie’s Samba but then I was rewatching that team dance and you are so right. LOTS of what appeared to be Samba steps that, to my untrained eye, he seemed to nail AND his hip action was pretty damn good imo. SO, I’m less concerned about the Samba in general but slightly confused about how jookin’ could fit in to either one of his dances.
I am really excited for these dances. I think the dances are a nice mix, and Amy should have a killer Jazz! I have a feeling that the jookin’ will be in the Samba, but I’m not quite sure how… oh well, if Sharna fit some AT into the quickstep, she can do anything.
So, do we know who the icons are at all? I am a bit nervous for how the interpret the word “icon” – if I see Justin Bieber on that list, then I, the teenage girl, might throw up. And to a different extreme, I’m nervous that they will take someone that has no connection to music or the arts, like, say, Abe Lincoln, and call him an American Icon in this context.
PH #30, reading your post reminded me of something I had posted on this site earlier this season – the difference between “deserve” and “earn”. I think that any of the contestants have earned the MBT – maybe some more than others. *coughmerylcough* Some PROS, however, think that they deserve the MBT when they haven’t really earned it. *coughmakscough* I think that it can be testy saying that you’ve earned something, because even if you think you’ve earned something, someone else might not. It’s a fine lined.
@Cidra (#33) Well, one could always hope that the combination of ten individual dances, one Macy’s stars of dance routine and four judges won’t leave that much time for any excessive elimination-related drama throughout the show 🙂
If Justin Beiber is on the list James is sure to get it since they had him dance to One Direction week one…of all the songs/artists…lol
I have to agree that this is one of the best groups of potential winners ever. I would be happy with any of them winning, really, although I slightly prefer Charlie or Amy, I think all of them are deserving and I’m looking forward to the coming weeks. That being said, because they are all so deserving I think tomorrow’s elimination is one of the suckiest in recent memory (pretty sure James is going, MAYBE Candace).
I hope it is James going home; he’s kind of gone downhill since the early weeks, even if the scores don’t seem to reflect that. (I would not be sorry to see Peta gone for the rest of the season, either. I’m pretty tired of her super-suggestive schtick and attire. I don’t know if Edyta had any more square inches covered, but somehow Peta seems to go more for the raunch.)
The dance I’m most looking forward to seeing is Charlie’s foxtrot, followed by Meryl’s V. Waltz.
I hope that Amy’s dances are without the fog machine this week — I’d love to see more of how she moves on those blade feet/legs. Very cool.
@Cidra – I had a thought today as to why TPTB put the elimination throughout the show, instead of just at the end – and it kind of makes sense, so it’s probably not their reason. 🙂 The idea was: since it’s the scores and votes from *last* week that are deciding who goes home, and *this* week’s dances aren’t contributing at all, maybe they are saying if they are safe or in jeopardy before the couples dance so that the connection to last week’s scores and votes is clearer – especially since last season it was different. Anyway, it’s just a thought.
I agree with a lot of the posts above. I would be happy with any of them winning, but my preference is Charlie with Amy in second.
Theresa (36) and Angie (38). That is true. Charlie did a mighty fine samba in the Team Vida dance. It’s probably one reason I’m the only person in America who liked Team Vida over Team Loca. (LOVE Samba, if I haven’t said it before.) However, there have been those on the internet who say Charlie’s samba was horrid. I guess we see what we want to see.
And don’t forget, Sharna says Charlie has been practicing his samba in the kitchen. (I don’t know why, but that just tickles me.)
Fog machine that every pro uses and only points out when Derek uses them. Fog machine or not, Amy’s footwork was impressive every week. That AT footwoek was great.
#43 I keep seeing posts with similar points about Peta. Keeping this year in mind besides her samba dance which totally overshadwoed the dance I really don’t see this. Foxtrot, V Waltz, Jive, Contemporary, Jive #2 and team dance, and quickstep all had pretty appropriate costumes nor seemed “super-suggestive”. Really aren’t dances that can be supper suggestive. Even her salsa wasn’t any more sugesstive than others. Again, keeping this year in mind.
Gailann #46, well, like I said, my eye is certainly untrained, but I was comparing his moves in that team dance to the Samba/Rhumba/Samba SD he and Meryl did for the 2011/2012 season and, while I know what works in the ballroom and what works on the ice are sometime 2 totally different things, I thought that the team dance Samba moves showed TREMENDOUS improvement to me.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for my guy and try to check in on twitter during the show (wish Pure had a mobile version) since I’ll be working Monday night.
Sorry, no, gailann. Salsa has been done for years on this show as have different variations of swing. The only special ones are jazz and salsa. Even with that the argument is asinine because everybody has done “special dances”
Yo Mama – the part I didn’t like is the “let me set you all straight” comment. Bad way to start.
Tweety, give it up. “Huge backlash??” Totally don’t care and I’m getting tired of your shit. Frankly, I hope Amy dances like she did last Monday – it would be hilarious to see her steal the MBT from Maks.
Cut the passive aggressive bullshit or I will just block you.
Any music spoiler?
Aviva, I have NO problem with anyone saying they earn or deserve the MBT. It’s when they say they deserve it MORE than someone else or they’ve earned it MORE than someone else. Follow me?? No one on this show has worked harder than the others on this show. They’ve all put in the time. They ALL have earned it and they all deserve it. If only all fans could be that rational.
Exactly Melissa. It’s okay when the other pros use the fog machine, but Derek’s standards are always higher. Val just used it the week before last – but not a peep was said.
Angie, I can comment to the site using my iPad and my iPhone – does that not work for you?
PH, what??? Just please point out where I wrote something passive aggressive. From the start, I openly wrote what I think about Amy(I like her, she’s overscored last week, want her in the finals, don’t want her to win). And because I didn’t want to state it(backlash comment) as a fact, I made sure to point out that I saw it in some websites.
Why are you objecting with everything I write about Amy? I see many people writing same(or worse) things about Meryl and Maksim. I never insulted or was rude to Amy.
Look, I’m trying to follow the rules of this website. But I’m confused. Because I’m checking some other comments and try to write in the same tone as the others. I’m trying hard to not write anything OTT. But everytime I write about Amy, some people comment about it like I wrote something awful. If you don’t want me to write anything negative about Amy, just say so.
@Aviva if they put Justin Bieber as an “American Icon” it would be a HUGE fail considering he is Canadian lol
Two songs I would love to see someone dance to tomorrow:
“Love Never Felt So Good” – Michael Jackson (song was released this year and I am obssessed. It could work for James’ ChaCha.. and LA Reid WAS giving James some pointers and LA worked with MJ in the last album he made that is coming out in June. Soooo……)
“Can’t Help Falling in Love” – Elvis Presley. (Could work very well for one of the V. Waltzes)
Some artists that I hope are acknowledge include Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder and heck.. even Lady Gaga! 😛
I hope someone dances to a Tina Turner, Madonna or Cyndi Lauper song. 🙂
I think it is funny that people on here and to a much greater extent in twitter world are “worried” about Amy doing the quickstep. Gosh, haven’t we heard this already about the jive and the Argentine Tango etc. She has been able to do them all and much better than some. The fear of the Maks shippers just makes me laugh. My guess is if Amy has seen the crap Derek probably says “Ah babe don’t worry, they do it every season.” I bet he has his moments behind closed doors but he has way too much grace to say it anywhere else.
If everyone is jumping on you tweety, GET A CLUE. Nearly every post you write is passive aggressive and I see I’m not the only one who had noticed it.
Also, if you keep writing the same thing over and over without acknowledging what other people have written – well, that’s just rude. You have extreme double standards and really, I’m getting tired of reading them time and time again.
Thanks Ems and Butterfly. Ems, I hope you’re right that they’ll have to play it pretty straight since they have a full slate of dancing. Butterfly, I see your point that they might be trying to draw a picture for the clueless viewers that the current elimination is based on the scores and votes from last week’s dances. However, as you said, logic and TPTB aren’t on speaking terms. If they just called people safe throughout the show, that would be fine. It’s the “Haha, you’re in jeopardy, now off you go and have a nice dance (unspoken subtext: it could be your swan song)” that just grates on my last nerve. It’s tasteless reality drama and call me old fashioned, but it shows a lack of respect for the celebs.
ITA Cidra, I think it really made a difference in Candace’s dances being in jeopardy vs knowing she was safe. (I am sure there are a lot of other factors involved) I wish they could wait until they had all danced.
Didn’t they used to wait til the end? I don’t like a lot of the changes and won’t it make it a lot harder to attract interesting celebs in the future. This show needs less “reality” and more real like it was for a long time. I also would like to see the final 2 be Candace and Amy. Their journeys have been great
What I want is to see Amy absolutely KILL IT tonight so she would shut haters’s mouths, because the amount of hate and higher standards this amazing girl with no feet is getting, is absolutely ridiculous.
Oh well…even if she kills it, there would probably be comments like “Derek was only lifting her, she wasn’t dancing, too much fog, she stood in one spot all the time, she was sitting all the time, sympathy votes, overscored” and blablabla. It’s getting so repetitive as Meryl’s spinning in every single dance.
And I absolutely agree with you Heidi…even if she doesn’t get MBT, she is the winner of this season in so many ways. 🙂
PH, my iPad HATES this site for some reason but I can’t use it at work anyway. And the full site on my phone is sooooo tiny. The sites with a mobile version (simplified and stripped down) are just easier for me to actually SEE (but, that’s probably mostly just me). I have to sneak peeking at my phone when I’m taking a bathroom break or if I’m lucky enough to get a full 30 minute lunch/dinner break during my 12 hours, so, the simpler, faster and easier it is, the better it is. Again, probably my own issues.
@Angie and PH, I can understand what she’s saying. I know there USED to be a mobile version of this site, because that’s what used to always come up when I was on my ipod, but a week or so (or more) it just changed to the full site. And, it loads VERY slowly. When you have a very limited amount of time that can be allotted to checking on the site, having the site load as slow as it does means that you may be able to read the first paragraph of something you want to read during a bathroom break.
I didn’t change anything on my ipod. One day, the mobile site loaded, and it immediately reloaded, and was the full site. While it was there, I could read through a couple articles, and glance at the comments in the length of time that it takes now for my ipod to load in one article/story here. I just figure it was simply an issue with the ipod, since it is one of the older ones, and I am slowly not being able to do as much online as I used to on it.
Hello evertbody. I have been reading puredwts for some time now, and I don’t feel the need to comment, because both Court and P. Heidi say it all. I just want to congratulate you for an excelent work rhis season.
My point: This week is the pro redemption week. Has anyone notices that they are doing the same one with the original celeb (except for Mark!)?
Sharna Foxtrot with Cody, now with Charlie.
Maks Jive with Danica, now with Meryl
Peta Rumba with Charlie, now with James
Derek Jazz with NeNE, now with Amy.
Mark Salsa with Amy. Mark is the only pro that is not taking a do over on that style.. does that mean anything? we’ll see… 🙂
I also agree that any of the remaining contestants would be deserving of the MBT and I would be happy for any of them to win for these reasons: Meryl, for her undeniable talent and ability and consistently professional performances; Charlie, because he just make me happy with his infectious joy and beautiful routines, including the exciting lift sequence with Candace; James, for his arc of improvement, and eagerness to do well; Candace, also for her arc of improvement, as she emerges as a competent and enjoyable-to-watch dancer; and last but not least, Amy: not only for her mind-boggling ability to even execute Derek’s choreo on carbon-fiber prosthetics, but also for her performance talent and ability to reach the audience with spot-on rhythm, excellent synchronization, and accurate emotional projection. This is going to be a fabulous semi-final and finale!
It’s show day and there’ve been NO song choice leaks (or at least reportable leaks?) How often does that happen?
Rose2r #60, Amen sister! Anyone of those artists you mentioned would be fun to hear for a dance. Lauper’s She Bop would make a fun quirky Tango.
They did have a Madonna vs Gaga team dance a few years ago, but since then I don’t believe they’ve used her music at all. Too expensive?
Well, that’s interesting, Lori and Angie. I’m going to tell John about this and see if maybe the last update we did turned something off.
Seems awfully strong to be a coincidence, Helena…but the fact that Mark is NOT doing Salsa with Candace means it probably doesn’t mean anything. If Candace goes home, on the other hand….hmmmm.
That said, the dances follow the celebs not the pros, so I’m inclined to think it doesn’t mean anything.
Angie, the lack of songs is actually the normal state of affairs…we’ve just spoiled you guys this season by knowing what the songs were up until this week. 🙂
Guess Deep Throat has laryngitis. 🙂
I wonder if someone can clear something up for me. Four couples will move forward to the final. Will they just disregard this week’s votes etc and start afresh for the final or will they eliminate a couple from the finals based on this week’s dances? Or will they carry forward the scores and votes and add them to the first show from the final? (Or something else?! ;-)).
Nothing against James personally, as he seems pleasant, but I’m hoping he and Peta leave this week. He has natural ability, but I don’t much enjoy watching him in the ballroom dances. Each of the others appeals for different reasons, so I’d be happy for any of them to win (depending how they do over the next 2 shows, of course).
I’m looking forward to see how Maks choreography the Jive for Meryl. He didn’t do a good job for Danica, not saying I didn’t like the dance, I just felt it didn’t have enough Jive, to much playing around. I miss not seeing Val doing the Jive, he is the best Jiver
@Jaycee- I would assume that it’s going to work similar to last year. Couples will dance tonight and based on last weeks scores and votes, one person will go home. Next week 4 couples will dance on Monday, and based on tonights scores and votes a couple will go home. Then going into Tuesday there will be 3 who will be going towards the MBT.
Jaycee, most likely the votes from tonight and tomorrow will be used to eliminate someone next Monday in much the same way as the elimination tonight will be done. Then next monday nights votes and scores will determine the winner.
Thanks Kaitlyn. I wondered if they might change it, because, iirc, they used the votes from the previous week and the scores from the current week last season. (Do I have that right?) It seems such a shame to prepare 3(?) dances for the final Monday show that might count for nothing. What if the couple with the lowest combined total from the semi-final stuns everyone with an incredible freestyle?! Ach! It was so much clearer when there was a results show!
Thanks also PH for a reply. Hmmm. I hope they can find a way for the Freestyles to count for all of them….
@Cidra (#76) As usual bringing some lightness to the posts… “laryngitis” hahaha.
I’m crossing my fingers we get all the songs spoiled later today before the show. Hehehehehe.
Must say, the show should take some notes from Strictly Come Dancing and spoil the list of songs a few days before. I think that could also be good to get certain people to tune into the show just to hear a song that a couple is dancing to because that person happens likes that song a lot (I got my sister to tune into the whole show during Latin week because she happened to “love” 90% of the songs they used.. lol)
I particularly love how Strictly gives a full song/dance list for each couple and the day after a few rehearsal clips from everyone. Wish DWTS did the same… But anyways.. Less than 9 hours until show time! 😀
I don’t think Freestyles will mean anything except for the final three. It would be quite difficult (and confusing) to change up the rules of voting/scoring for the last week Personally, I don’t mind it. I feel like a lot of stars know there can only be one winner and would just be happy to make it to the finale and do the freestyle. I know James has said that he just really wants to do that dance and Danica had originally stated that she just wanted to make it to the finale to have the full experience (obviously didn’t work out there). I also like it better that your votes are counting towards the dancing you did rather than having to vote this week and cross your fingers that next week the star you voted for does well enough to stay.
Seeing Amy’s running feet and the fact that it is a dance that, once you’re in hold, you can’t break it, makes me really excited for her and Derek’s quickstep!
I want another well deserved perfect score for them!
I find it hilarious how people are saying that Amy is given “special” dances or treatment now that she has made it this far. Why is it so difficult to believe that she made it this far because she is simply doing well with her dances. Why not simply congratulate her or shut “the you know what” up instead of spitting out rude and degrading remarks at her. Wow! I actually have stopped reading DWTS social pages as I am so disgusted with the comments.
Anyway, it’s DWTS night. Wohooo! Can’t believe it’s almost over. What will we do with our Monday nights now. LOL
Helena, that is a really interesting point. I think it will only mean something significant if Candace goes home, and it’s probably just a coincidence. But it is a cool coincidence!
@Helena #69
Oh no!! I’m getting a bad feeling about tonight. I don’t believe it’s a coincidence. Not with this show. :-0
I hope I’m wrong.
PH, you guys should know better than to spoil the masses like that? We are an unreasonable bunch at times and get cranky. lol The spoilers this year have been so much fun. Thanks!
Hey Cidra! Sharna just tweeted that Charlie’s Fox Trot is very classic and beautiful. Can you say EXCITED??!!! 😀
Check the post for a big update!! If you can read the song names, let me know. I can only read two of them. Dance order is…interesting. Depending on how they break it down.
Am guessing this is the dancer order also? The only other song I can make out is “New York, New York” for Charlie’s Foxtrot…
Yeah, got that one DLT.
Amy Derek has “can’t hurry love” for their quickstep
Looooove the version of “Too Darn Hot” that Amy and Derek have. I really enjoy the feel of the RAC Mix.
So the ever elusive running order is out of the bag. I wonder how this plays into the reveal of jeopardy/safe.
I think Charlie has “Mo money Mo problems” for his Samba….Interesting choice of song!
even more excited for Charlie’s foxtrot
Amy and Derek, Jazz: Too Darn Hot (RAG Mix), or RAC Mix
James and Peta, Rumba: Islands in the stream
Those were the only other ones I could make out.
James and Peta – Islands in the Stream
Currently examining the pic under and industrial microscope we have in my office to examine circuit boards…Heidi’s updating as we speak…
A Samba to “Mo Money Mo Problems” really? This is very interesting.
Be sure and check the post before you comment – it may have already been updated. Courtney is working magic. 🙂
Only one I could make out was Amy and Derek’s Quickstep: “Can’t Hurry Love”
So much for my glasses being helpful 😛
Meryl Maks fans won’t like it cause their’s is completely blocked out. kinda funny. I think James should’ve gone last, all the other couples went last at some point, except him. I guess they wanted to alternate between the male and female celebrities.
So I am also guessing the order they are in could be the dance order for the night?
Wouldn’t surprised me them putting Meryl last. “Will Meryl have a big comeback after being on the bottom of the leaderboard last week?! Gotta wait until everyone else has danced to find out!” -_-
Also, if it is indeed the dance order, I find it telling that Candace is first. Maybe they call her safe first? If that’s the case then I think James is toast. Sad face…
I’m sure the fringe Meryl & Maks fans will try to blame it on us, Ananya…us and our “hatred”. BRB, gonna go get my x-ray glasses so that I don’t look like a “hater”. 😎
I love the song Amy has for Jazz.
Only on DWTS would a half-Puerto Rican, half-Philipino pop singer who has only risen to popularity within the last 5 years be considered an “American Icon”. 😛
Well, if they do it in groups of two or three, it would be Candace and Charlie, or Candace, Charlie and Amy – I’m betting on Candace/Charlie and them putting Candace in Jeopardy. Then in the second three, I’m wondering if they will put Meryl or Amy in jeopardy. Since they so badly want Meryl to win, I’m betting she’s in jeopardy just to freak out her fans even more. There is more REAL danger in calling someone safe every week.
And gee, I’m so shocked that Meryl is going last again. :::rolls eyes:::
#104 CC. I was thinking the samething. *tears*
Candace and Mark alluded to their Jazz song being by someone “who has five famous brothers” so I’m going to guess they mean Janet Jackson. Their jazz song COULD be “Nasty” but I can’t say for sure…I bet whatever Courtney is using is better than my eyesight!
So…songs and dance order. Interesting.
I can’t say I’m all that happy about Meryl and Maks dancing last. I’m not good enough to figure out who’s likely to be safe and who’s likely to be in jeopardy based on that. Will they do a group of three, and then two? Or tell each person individually? Any ideas, PH?
I’m loving some of the songs – @Cidra, there’s no Cole Porter, but we do have some Frank Sinatra! Both of Amy and Derek’s look like they will be tons of fun, as does Charlie’s foxtrot. I’m so excited for those. I don’t know the other songs well enough (or, as for Charlie’s samba, at all) to say yet; I will have to do listen to them.
Can’t wait for tonight!
looks like Candace’s jazz song may be “Nasty” by Janet Jackson?
It looks like Candace and Mark have “Nasty” by Janet Jackson for their jazz routine.
It’s the same thing with Zendaya during her season. And with William. Zendaya and William both went last WAY too many times. Either last or close to last. I think they both went first only once. I was rooting for both of them during their respective seasons but it always bugged me that they were the ones getting the pimp spot repeatedly.
And now the same happens with Meryl going last for the THIRD time. Wouldn’t surprise me either if she went last during the Finals.
That was supposed to be *go* listen to them…
PH – I agree that having Candace, James and Meryl (as last week’s low scorer) in jeopardy is probably the most likely…and if that’s true, I can relax, because Charlie and Amy would be safe. This is of course on the assumption that either James or Candace is going home. If it’s a surprise elimination, what would be *incredibly* nerve-wracking is to have Candace and James both called safe, and the three Olympians in jeopardy. At that point, I would be praying *hard* that it was Meryl going home. And now I’m feeling nervous, and wish I hadn’t thought of that possible scenario…
Has James ever gotten to go last?
“Nasty” by Janet Jackson would fit Mark’s hint about one of their artists having five talented brothers.
@Rose2 The latest he has gone is second to last. Not counting the Dance Duel with Amy where they both basically went last. Seems like it’s happening again tonight…
Ok, NOW I understand Sharna’s WTAF? about their song assignments. From a Frank Sinatra CLASSIC to Notorious B.I.G.???!!! WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK?? bwahahahahaha
And actually, a Frank Sinatra type song from Charlie and Sharna’s Fox Trot was one of my dream scenarios. If they DON’T kill it, then he doesn’t really deserve a spot in the finals, imo, and I ADORE this boy.
“Islands in the Stream?” Who’s the “pop icon” in that? Dolly Parton or Kenny Loggins?
So I went and listened to “Mo Money, Mo Problems” – I can see more easily how jookin will fit than how samba will fit, so I get Sharna’s reaction to that song. Also, how is this group an “American Icon”? Is there some other song they’ve done that is super well known? I’m not the most culturally current person, so I don’t always expect to know the music, but I would think for “American Icons” week, the songs should be easily recognizable. I know of all the other artists, and have at least *heard of* the songs that they’re dancing to.
Charlie is going to ACE that foxtrot.
@120 It isn’t “Pop Icons” Night, just “American Icons” Night and Kenny Loggins and Dolly Parton are pretty darn good choices.
I believe the “WTF” of the “Icons” they have chosen is Bruno Mars. Don’t get me wrong, the guy is amazing and SUPER talented but… calling him an icon already seems a bit.. extreme.
I’m having lots of trouble imagining a samba to Notorious B.I.G. Lots of trouble. (Of course, if Notorious B.I.G. somehow became an American Icon when I wasn’t looking, I guess that makes me even more out of touch.)
@ButterflyWhirl Notorious B.I.G is one of the most famous rappers from the 80’s-90s who had quite a successful carreer before he was murdered. People call him the best rapper ever in America. I’m not really big into Rap music but amongst that specific genre he is considered an Icon (or at least I would think so). Other songs that most people recognize him for are “Big Poppa” and “Juicy” (my High School graduation song… lol, go figure). The same could be said about Tupac (another murdered rapper).
Court #108, I still think it’s better than Justin Bieber…
I am really upset that Meryl is going last again. I think she might end up in jeopardy. I just can’t stand the pimping of her!
The music is a bit all over the place, but I guess that’s what happens when the theme is “American Icons ” – you get a variety of music. I was wondering if they might only be counting one round of dances as “icons” – how is Notorious B.I.G an icon? Maybe I’m just too young…
Well, it looks like TPTB did their usual, and S-T-R-E-T-C-H the definition of “American Icon.” Or maybe their definition is simply different than ours?
But so far, it looks like all of their “American Icons” are American, because I could also see them defining it as “an icon in America, but not necessarily born and/or raised there”..
Thanks for the update. You guys got me on how you blew those up enough to read the names and song titles. LOL
@121 ButterflyWhirl: Notorious BIG was a legendary rapper from New York whose music is timeless and so important in the world of Hip-Hop. Think it’s kinda neat and faux-hip of DWTS to branch out and include other genres (though shrewd because I’m sure they would’ve gotten a bit of backlash if everything was cookie-cutter pop music) but this particular song for a samba is a bit WTF to me. Hope they can make it work though!
I am going to be royally pissed if there is no Bruce Springsteen on tonight’s music list. And darn, there goes my chance to hear a rumba to “Freebird”. 😛
CC 123, the WTF moment came from trying to figure out how to put a Samba to a rap/hip hop song.
And, coming from a very heavy music background starting with my great grandfather, I sometimes role my eyes at the liberal use of the word “Icon” to describe some musicians/performers. Now, Ella Fitzgerald, The Supremes and Frank Sinatra are no-brainers for me. It’s when you start getting into modern music icons that I start scratching my head at some of the choices.
Kenny Rogers not Kenny Loggins. Although I love Kenny Loggins. 🙂
Even though Biggy isn’t my time or thing, I had a good chuckle at thinking that the pros would love the old and new classics from Sinatra to Biggy. And then Peta and James must have wtf’d at Islands In The Stream.
Love that I at least get to hear songs I know (except Biggy).
Btw, I just saw that I put Kenny Loggins instead of Kenny Rogers. Hahaha. Oh CC, you need some lunch..
Court – how could they *possibly* cut down Freebird to fit 90 seconds and do it justice? LOL
CC (#83) — Thanks. I like to mix it up. Keep it light in one comment then go have a rant in another; it’s healthier that way. 😉
Angie (#89 — Oh yeah, I’m excited. Can’t wait for Charlie and Sharna’s foxtrot. If Sharna’s pleased, it must be beyond gorgeous. Yay! 😛
Butterfly (#111) — A Cole Porter tune would have been the ultimate, but I won’t turn up my nose to Ol’ Blue Eyes. Amy and Derek’s dances are going to be great fun! The Supremes and Ella Fitzgerald are legitimate American Icons. Some of the others? 🙄 Well, like you, gotta go listen to some of these “American Icons”. I can see what Sharna meant by “really” when getting their Samba song. Never heard of it or this guy.
Why do they have these theme weeks if they’re just going to make a joke out of them with bizarre song choices?
As for “Islands in the Stream” — *gag* I was hoping never to have to hear that one again.
Going by this order I’m feeling Candace will be told she’s in jeopardy, Charlie and Amy safe, James and Meryl told back-to-back they are in jeopardy. But then part of me thinks tjey may call Candace safe and put Charlie falsely in jeopardy
The more I think about it……A Rumba to Islands In the Stream? Oy vey! Good luck. And Peta hates country music.
I can’t imagine what they gave them for the Cha Cha…. The Devil Went Down to Georgia.
Love the good old country roots of my youth. 🙂
And Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, The Supremes. I’m excited!
@AshleyL I agree. It may have been because I recently heard “Footloose” and it’s been in my head lately. Oopsies.
@Angie agreed with that you said completely. Hey, on the bright side, it could be worse and they could throw in some music from Miley Cyrus or Bieber (regardless of the fact he isn’t American).
I guess with the song choices we have seen this season it is a good thing that the artists for the night are at least American.
Charlie and Sharna have to samba to a rap/hip hop song. I can see the average dwts viewer, so the middle age women totally against that genre of music. Is this another way to go against Charlie to get Meryl a win? Just kidding, but I even find rap annoying and I dont fit into the main watching demo of the show. Hopefully voters will judge on the dance and not the song.
Court (#130) A 90-second version of “Freebird” cracks me up. I don’t want Maks getting anywhere near a Bruce Springsteen song. So that leaves James and Peta’s ChaCha and somehow “Bruce and ChaCha” don’t seem to belong in the same sentence. However, we have a Samba to the BIG dude so what the hell, bring on a ChaCha to Bruce.
DWTS Gossip says they believe James/Peta Cha Cha song may be to Beyoncé tune and Meryl and Maks have Elvis for Jive.
If true, that’s good, I think.
Time to date myself. What’s so special about “Freebird”? I have never even heard that song! Why can’t you just use something like “Born in the USA” or “Born to Run”? Aren’t they just as good?
Well, I went and refreshed my memory on Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems…since I’m assuming they are going to HAVE to use the actual track, the fact that it has a Diana Ross song as the underlying beat/rhythm is actually quite helpful and I can see it a bit better for samba, especially if they use the section from about 2 minutes in. Anyone else hear it/see it?
AshleyL (#137), Can you picture a Jive to The Devil Went Down to Georgia? I’ve always liked the song and Maks is wearing cowboy boots in their Instagram promo picture.
$10 says we hear “Jailhouse Rock” rehashed yet again.
@Aviva – “Freebird” is not a Bruce Springsteen song. Wikipedia, dear.
Ooooo…Cidra I just had an AMAZING idea. Charlie and Sharna redemption Rhumba to Bruce’s “Secret Garden!” One of my favorite singers recently covered that in concert and fell back in love with the song. I would DIE!! /off topic dreams
I loved “Mo Money Mo Problems” (was my fave song my senior year of college-it was playing EVERYWHERE!) and can actually see it working for samba. It’s a bit more mainstream-sounding than most hip-hop, in my opinion…
I love me some Bruno Mars and LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Beyoncé but to put them in a category with Elvis, Sinatra, Jackson, Fitzgerald is a joke to me
Oh man, I completely forgot that Tony Bennett put New York, New York on his duets album with Frank Sinatra. Also Liza Minelli and Mel Torme, who I would consider American Icons as well. Will be bummed if we get the band singers on this one. 🙁
Beyoncé’s one of my favorite artists, but I swear to God, if we have another ‘Crazy in Love’ Cha-Cha-Cha…
Aviva (#142). Yep, you’re dating yourself. “Freebird” is an iconic song from the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Released in 1973 it’s one of the most requested songs in the history of rock music. The short version of “Freebird” is 9 minutes long. So the idea of condensing it to 90 seconds is just funny.
Angie (#146) LOL girl, you’re totally giddy, get a grip…breathe! 😛
Hey Cids,
I’ll take Devil Went Down To Georgia for any song, ha. I loved that song when I was a kid.
Cowboy boots for Jailhouse Rock Jive…? Interesting. Maybe Elvis wore them in one of those old tv clips while singing it.
@Joanna Those were my exact thoughts. I personally consider a Cha-cha to “Crazy in Love” one of the worse song choices ever. The song does not scream Cha-cha AT. ALL.
The only Beyonce song I can think of that would fit a ChaCha is “Sweet Dreams” .. and even then that song is not all that Cha-Chaish.
lol Cidra (#151), you’re right. I shall endeavor to take myself in hand and get a grip. I was just totally stoked to see the New York, New York for ShaCha. Of course, I think they got more than slightly “hosed” with their Samba song, but 1 out of 2 being a “dream” song isn’t bad I guess. lol
And “Freebird,” while beloved of music fans is one of those songs that many working bands today would rather shoot themselves than cover in concert. Of course, I love it. lol
I am a little disappointed. I was hoping for more “classic” music. (I just watched Kellie & Derek’s Foxtrot to “It had to be You”.) I guess I am just showing my age. lol
Glad at least Charlie got a well known song for his FT.
Candace posted who her ‘icon’ is going to be on the show. Have any of the others?
Angie (#154), just kidding girlfriend, I love your enthusiasm. Keep it up! Thanks to you, I’m listening to “Secret Garden” right now. I looooooooove Bruce. My room mate freshman year in college had a huge poster of him above her bed in our dorm room. She always said she’d love to have it fall down on top of her some night. 🙄 We were an innocent bunch back then. Can’t believe that just popped into my head after all these decades.
Well, I listened to the Notorious B.I.G. song, and about the only word I understood was one I don’t think you can say on TV. 😕
#157 Got a great chuckle and visual from that scenario.
Only posters I was allowed were in junior high. I had Michael Jackson. It was right when Thriller came out. Of course I never dreamed of it falling down on top of me. Looking back now, I think that’s a good thing. 🙂
@156 Misty: Amy posted that hers is going to be Oprah
And from other Instagram pics, it looks like Meryl has Kristi Yamaguchi and Charlie has Scott Hamilton. Maybe James with LA Reid (though kindA weird).
What. No Rolling Stones or Fleetwood Mac. I’m crushed
No Madonna?!!! No Michael Jackson????!!!!
Candace posted a pic and she has on a short, black wig. Are we sure she’s not All That Jazz?
Cidra, ask Courtney my response when she texted me “Islands in the Stream”. LOL
Speaking of “Devil Went Down to Georgia”, who can name the celebrity/pro couple who got stuck trying to dance to that song, and which dance were they attempting, on which season?
I don’t have a prize for the winner, except for my gratitude, because I honestly don’t remember, except the band DIDN’T do the song justice, and cringing with every step they took because it just wasn’t possible….
Amy said “Oprah” was her icon and that she got a phone call from her.
Lori, the first word that popped in to my head was “Gilles” – no idea if that’s right.
I’m excited to see Amy & Derek’s Quickstep tonight!
@Lori
I looked it up. It was Nancy Grace and Tristan in Season 13. I guess tptb really wanted her gone.
LOL, PH (#163) — Hey Court, was PH’s response to “Islands in the Stream” printable???
So I guess the celebs’ rehearsal packages will include them talking about (and potentially with) their icons? I saw the tweet from Scott Hamilton that he was going to be at the show supporting the Olympians. Hope Kristi Yamaguchi is also there.
#168 — yep, and they were doing, or trying to do, the Jive.
Sorry, AshleyL, didn’t finish my thought. I should have remembered since I adore Tristan, but it was Halloween Week and the costumes were just outrageous and the band sucked. *shudder* So I guess I just wiped it out of my mind.
@Lori: From teh Googles: Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus – Jive
Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Week 7 October 31, 2011
Song: “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by Charlie Daniels Band
Score: 21
Looking at the dance order, at least Candace gets to do her dances before (and also not next to either) Meryl (V. waltz) and Amy (jazz) do their versions of the same dances.
Darn @Ashley L beat me to it. I guess I’ll specify by saying they danced that during Week 7: Halloween Week and it was, indeed, quite attrocious haha.
Thought I’d do some score predicting becase that’s always fun for me 😛
(CAI, Kenny Ortega, Len, Bruno):
Candace & Mark:
V. Waltz : 36 (9,9,9,9) : I think her posture might be the same as last week (so, not that great).
Jazz : 39 (9,10,10,10) : Could be her breakthrough dance but I can see CAI saying something negative about it and not liking it as much as the other three judges.
Charlie & Sharna:
Foxtrot: 40 (10,10,10,10) – Only way I can see this NOT get a 40 is if he makes some sort of mistake which, at this point, I’m guessing he’ll try really hard not to do.
Samba: 37 (9,10,9,9) – I’m guessing he’ll impress Kenny in the performance aspect but technically he won’t impress the stooges.
Amy & Derek:
Quickstep: 38 (9,10,9,10) – CAI and Len might have something negative to say about it like “not enough body contact” or whatever.
Jazz: 40 (10,10,10,10) – A Jazz choreographed by Derek? Yes please. This is the same as Charlie.. the only way I see this not getting a 40 is if she does some glaring mistake.
James & Peta:
Cha-cha-cha: 36 (9,9,9,9) – While I’m hope I am very wrong about this one, I don’t think it’ll be his best of the two. Maybe good, but not GREAT.
Rumba: 39 (10,10,9,10) – CAI might get all hot and bothered from it, Kenny might like the emotion and/or chemistry and Bruno .. well, same as CAI. Len will be nitpicky about it.
Meryl & Maks:
Viennese Waltz: 40 (10,10,10,10) – She’s the chosen one, is going last and had the lowest scores last week and has to have a “comeback”… of course she’s getting a 40.
Jive: 40 (10,10,10,10) – Same reason as before.
Candace V Waltz looks like “If I Believe” Charlie WilsonGospel.
Actually Patti Austin’s If I Believe sounds closer to V Waltz
Don’t know whether you have heard about this, but they are apparently looking into the Facebook voting as James’ fans are complaining that they are listed as voting for Meryl! I may be an obsessed aging fan girl, but I have only voted for James the whole series (Shoot me, I adore the man!) So I won’t be surprised to see him go tonight. Were they shocked by how much support he has?
Tish – we already determined that Candace has “If I Knew” by Bruno Mars as her song.
@Cidra – I believe she said “Ick”. 😛
@Allie – Who is “they”? The voting on Facebook has only been an issue of the voter getting directed to the wrong page after voting – the votes still count, they’re just getting the wrong message afterwards. No big deal. Who is supposedly looking into it?
CC, love the reasons behind some of your scoring guesses. You sure know the Stooges, don’t you? 😛
Unless the lightbulb suddenly clicked on during the week, you’re right about Candace’s posture in the VWaltz, but I’m still hoping it will be a “sweet” performance for her.
You’re also right about CAI and her passive aggressiveness towards Amy, and Len just likes to make life tough on Derek.
I’ve got my finger crossed that 9 is as low as the Stooges go with Charlie. If Len pulls out an 8, I’ll be furious. A 10 from Kenny would be fantastic but I’m not counting on it.
I’d say you’re spot on for James and Peta’s Rumba. It’s bound to be too steamy for Len but CAI and Bruno will be enjoying an imaginary cigarette.
The Anointed Ones seem set up for an 80-point night. Sadly, Meryl could so easily be earning those kinds of scores if only she was dancing with a better pro.
I hope somebody has the sense to put Charlie in white tie and tails for that Sinatra song foxtrot. He KILLS that look.
no, your voting history says that you voted for Meryl. Sorry if I don’t understand what is happening, but I know that I haven’t voted for her even once.
#174 CC
I pretty much agree with the scoring you predicted except I feel they will be back to their old selves with Charlie. I don’t think they’ll give him a perfect score, and the criticism will continue. It didn’t stop them from talking nonsense last week.
I feel like Amy might get a point more at 79 no matter how brilliant her dances are. This way Amy will be not quite as perfect as Meryl and Maks. This will be the week to pour even more gobs of maple syrup over M&M to make sure all the sheep understand it LOUD and CLEAR. Lay it on thick baby!!! I’m resorting to antiemetics, for the rest of the season.
Allie it’s only an issue if after casting your votes the name is different history doesn’t matter
@Court, Thanks for the intel. Somehow “ick” just seems way too tame for our PH. 😉
@Lea, because The Rolling Stones are British & they didn’t choose any Fleetwood Mac songs for their routines
@C, are you SURE her response was only “ick”? My response was harsher than that, and I don’t say those words….. 🙂 I love Dolly Parton, and I would define her as an American Icon, and I used to love Kenny Rogers, too. Them together with that song? NEVER liked it. If they want to use American Icons, can’t they find some of their GOOD songs? Unless they just wanted to mess with James……..
Charlie and Candace’s song choices are killing me… Nasty and mo money mo problems…. I can’t wait lol
Allie, YOUR VOTES WENT TO JAMES. You’re just getting the wrong destination page, and it’s being reflected on the history. I think DWTSGossip even tweeted a picture from ABC that explained that the votes were still counting, and that the voters were just getting directed to the wrong page.
Less than 3 hours til showtime!! Very nervous for James.
@Allie, I would think tptb are just a little bit more subtle about their allegiances than that, so don’t worry. With a large volume of voters (probably a couple million people are voting each monday I’d guess), it’s difficult to keep everything functioning and running (and not crashing!) but like C said, I think it’s more of a problem with the page that the voters see than how the vote is counted.
A similar thing happens to me online. I vote for Amy and Derek and at the end when they post a “related video” I get Meryl and Maks. Never watch.
I wonder if Charlie dancing before Meryl will “help” Charlie and “hurt” Meryl. Ice dancing fans may start voting for Charlie and by the time Meryl dances there’s no vote left for Meryl.
It was only “ick” Lori because I hadn’t had lunch and my blood sugar was low. 🙂
@Jennifer, I know there are some people who just vote first for their favorites, then watch later, so I don’t know how much of an impact it would have, although it probably helps some. Especially for people like me on the West Coast though, there is time in between to read reactions, dances posted online, etc. if you aren’t too opposed to spoilers. I personally like to sneak a peak at the dances before the show actually starts over here, so for me, voting isn’t really impacted by who dances what when.
Boy did I laugh when I saw Mo Money, Mo Problems for Charlie and Sharna’s Samba. I mean it’s just so out of left field. Because when I think of Biggie Smalls, I instantly think of sweet, blonde ice dancer Charlie White. lol!
At least they got a great Foxtrot song. Old Blue Eyes. Now that’s an American icon.
Okay, back in the day when Islands In The Stream first came out I used to sing along with it at the top of my lungs. Now…….not so much. How much you wanna bet Peta comes out dressed in a skimpy sarong?
I’ve been going back and forth all day about Meryl. Part of me is confident she’s safe tonight but the other part worries that last week’s scores really hampered them because she’s 4 points below Candace, 5 below James.
Then again the couple with the highest cumulative scores has never been eliminated before the finals before.
@Lori: “Speaking of “Devil Went Down to Georgia”, who can name the celebrity/pro couple who got stuck trying to dance to that song, and which dance were they attempting, on which season?”
@Ashley L: “I guess tptb really wanted her gone.”
You’ll REALLY know TPTB have the knives out if they ever give someone, say, a Cha-Cha to “The Rite of Spring.”
[Speaking of which, whoever the tenor was that did “Carmina Burana” for DWTS a few seasons back, I ask you to pray to the deity of your choice that he never be allowed anywhere near classical music again. 🙂 ]
Here is what I don’ understand. I don’t want to upset the shippers but wouldn’t Meryl and Charlie have pretty much the same fan base, at least in the ice dancing world. I worry for one of them….not sure which. I hope they all do well tonight and that the judges try to be impartial and not be stupid tonight.
Sam, LOL, I think we’re all safe from the tenor who butchered “Carmina Burana”. My guess is he was canned with the rest of the orchestra and Classical Night is way to old fogey. It doesn’t fit the hip new look TPTB are desperately trying to squeeze DWTS into. Guess TPTB haven’t figured out you make yourself a laughingstock looking like mutton dressed up as lamb. Oh wait, never mind, it’s Hollywood. The streets are full of mutton dressed up as lamb. 🙄
Just finished reading this posting. I hope Peta keeps it tame as well. My guesses for scores (Carrie Ann, Len, Kenny,Bruno):
Meryl and Maks’ jive: 39 (10,9,10,10)
Meryl and Maks’ V. Waltz: 40 (10,10,10,10)
Charlie and Sharna’s samba: 39 (9,10,10,10)
Charlie and Sharnas’ foxtrot: 40 (10,10,10,10)
James and Peta’s rumba: 40 (10,10,10,10)
James and Peta’s cha cha: 40 (10,10,10,10)
Amy and Derek’s jazz: 40 (10,10,10,10)
Amy and Derek’s quickstep: 36 (9,9,9,9) I hope I’m wrong about this one and she gets a better score though
Candace and Mark’s jazz: 36 (9,9,9,9)
Candace and Mark’s V Waltz: 39 (10,9,10,10)
Charlie’s samba song……..very interesting. I love the song BUT it doesn’t scream samba to me. More jazz than anything else
@Lynne, both Meryl and Charlie will have picked up votes from outside of the ice skating world. Yes, they’ll have the same core audience, but the average viewer sitting on the couch will have picked one or the other. There’s probably as many who have decided that Charlie is cute and adorable, and getting picked on, as there are who decided that Meryl gets their votes because Maks is behaving himself.
I’ve been avoiding the comments because I love Meryl and don’t want to appear like a crazy but glad I started watching again and found this site. NO ONE I know watches DWTS so it’s a nice change to read opinions. Plus…im addicted to spoilers. Haven’t decided if I’ll watch live because I can never get through these type of things when I feel my favorite is in danger. I’m the same with sports but usually suck it up ha. Based on the order, I think either James or Meryl are in the bottom, and not both. If they start the show with a “shocking elimination” comment I’m putting on a jillian michaels DVD lol.
On a final note, why no paso doble????
Not to long now. I hope everyone performs their dances well, the judges are sensible, and Charlie & Amy are safe. I maybe reaching a bit with regard to the judges.
IMHO, Charlie is as good or better a dancer than Meryl and I find him more personable.
Germ, you can still enjoy Pure and all the great stuff the Mods find for us without commenting. If you’re new to the site, it’s way better to read a lot and say very little. Then start with small comments, establish your credibility as a “non-crazy” and move up from there.
I’m no oracle but I don’t think you have too much to worry about vis-a-vis Meryl. However, I agree watching live can be very stressful.
Why no Paso? Who knows. Could be a case of too many dance styles, too few weeks. Could also be not enough male celebs to make it worth doing.
PJ, I agree about the judges. Asking them to be sensible is probably way more than they’re capable of delivering. I too have fingers and toes crossed for a night of good dancing and no shocking elimination of Charlie or Amy.
@Susan2 – I love Islands in the Stream, it’s one of my favorite songs that was written by one of my favorite groups the BEEGEES. I know I’ll be singing it all day tomorrow.
Large point totals are deceptive. The percent for Meryl to overcome isn’t much. I worry more for Charlie and Amy.
Some song recycling. Janet Jackson is an icon. She owned the late eighties and nineties and not for nipple gate, who knows even more. Remember lil Kim getting the song for cha cha and funny now Candace gets it. Talk about opposites. I also loved Apolo and Julianne quickstep to that same song.
I agree with you PH…that is why it just blows my mind that the Maks fans are so sure Maks “should” win…lol. I just have to keep reminding myself that people aren’t reasonable and rational…oh well. The fury is about to start for another week….lol.
Don’t know where to post this but….
Please Maks …no DRAMA tonight, Meryl doesn’t have to put up with it!!!
This season is a terrible joke. It has lost any credibility as a dancing competition. Done watching…
