“Can’t Remember to Forget You” by Shakira feat. Rihanna (Nene’s Argentine tango) – 1

“Islands in the Stream” by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers (James’ rumba) – 1
Votes omitted due to failure to follow the format – 2
Courtney: The two songs I thought would garner the most votes, did – and while “Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems” probably didn’t do Charlie any favors…it actually started to grow on me after a second viewing 😛 Maybe it was just the enthusiasm with which he attacked it, but he made the most of a crummy song. The same cannot be said for “I Luh Ya Papi” – which the two couples dancing to clearly disliked as much as we did. It drives me nuts when J. Lo does songs like these – they just make her sound downright unintelligent, and make it seem like she’s trying to remind everyone that she’s hip and has chola street cred because she talks like this. The song is bad, no doubt – but I also don’t think Val or Maks really put their all into choreographing that duel, and thus the end result was even more lackluster. I have to roll my eyes a bit at “I Wan’na Be Like You”, because I really only added that because I saw so many Meryl fans griping about how “terrible a samba song” it was. Boo hoo, poor Princess Meryl gets saddled with one mediocre individual song the entire season – go ask Charlie how it feels to get screwed over every other week, with “Sail”, “Mo’ Money, Mo Problems”, “Wildest Moments”, etc. And James has more to gripe about with that gadawful “Gasolina” than Meryl dancing to a song from The Jungle Book. As for the write-ins? Once again hard for me to say that Meryl got screwed with her foxtrot song, because even though it wasn’t really a foxtrot, it was still one of the top 10 songs in the country at the time and the shippers (and judges) ate it right up. And anyone wanna make a bet that whoever wrote in “Dare You” was an insecure Meryl fan? 😛
Heidi: I ain’t takin’ that bet, Courtney. Same kinda idiot who haunts Amy’s instagram to scream “Meryl and Maks!!” on every single photo that Amy posts. :::rolls eyes::: Must protect Princess Meryl at all costs!! My nickname is an inside joke…wish I could say the same for Meryl’s. But no…the pedestal is still very, very high. Meryl overcame so many obstacles on her path to victory…horrendous song choices…mean judges picking on the stellar choreography…oh, wait. 😀 ANYway, JLo was getting a lot of crap on the radio this morning for pretending to be “Jennie from the block” while staying in Manhattan. Apparently she gave 25k tickets to people in Brooklyn for her concert and half of them didn’t show up? With songs like “I luh Ya Papi” can anyone really blame them?? Yes, the song was bad (it got my vote)…but the choreographers did not help at ALL. Lord what a whimpy assed dance. The difference between “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and the “I Wan’na Be Like You” is also totally in the choreographer, IMO. Neither song is a REALLY terrible song choice (but Charlie definitely got the short end of the stick in this instance), but Sharna made the best of it while Maks couldn’t get past it. I can’t help thinking that if Derek or Mark had been handed Maks’ samba song (or JLo’s song), we would have seen some pretty creative choreography. Ah well.
Vogue: It’s so funny as when I first heard Charlie had “Sail” for a Paso Doble, I didn’t think it would work, but, it actually didn’t bother me. Give it up to Charlie and Sharna making the best of it….again as they did through out the season. Another song that just annoys me to no end anyway is “I Love Ya Pai”. I cringed through out Danica and Meryl’s Samba duel with that song. However, another song I didn’t like was “I Wanna Be Like You” for Meryl’s Samba. Awful song with a lack luster dance too. In the end, I voted for “I Wanna Be Like You” for the worst song.
Charlie was screwed over so badly with songs: the cha-cha song, the paso song, the rumba song, the horrible samba song… I so wish that instead of sticking him with all the latin dances and 2 extra dances they’d given him actual ballroom. Jungle book isn’t NEARLY as bad as “mo’ money mo’ problems” (remember Jack and Cheryl’s samba?) and I personally felt the ludicrous JLo song had a better samba beat that Charlie’s song. The extent to which Meryl fans will go to make it seem that she surmounted great odds is ridiculous, as if they feel the need to make her “inspirational” the way Amy is. Yeah… breaking a toe and dancing to JLo is sooo on the same level as losing BOTH LEGS.
Yeah, I voted for “I Luh Ya Papi” .. I hated the song before it was used on the show. I agree with Courtney, songs like this one just makes JLo sound dumb and uneducated. She’s just trying too hard and needs to go back to making songs like “Let’s Get Loud” .. or something. The Samba that accompanied that awful song wasn’t any better either. I never really had a problem with Charlie’s song. It was a very odd choice for a Samba, yes.. but it was different and I liked it and I’ll be damned if Charlie didn’t dance an exceptional Samba to it.
Oh and BTW, to whoever wrote the write-in vote for Amy and Mark’s Salsa the song was “Brand New” by Pharrell not “Girl” . Just thought I’d point that out 🙂
NO NeNes Argentine Tango song was the WORST ever. What were TPTB thinking!
I always believed that the best way for the TPTB to pimp a contestant and pimp big is with the choice of music. I rooted for Meryl and happy she won, but I cannot think of one bad song she had on the show. Even the Jungle book was not that bad, it was cute, and kind of the whole thing was funny.
Charlie did have a few terrible songs, and it was unfortunate, took away form the overall entertainment value of the show.
I remember when JLo was in Out Of Sight, that Steven Soderbergh movie with Clooney. She was fantastic in it and could have had a serious film career instead of trying to be some down with it homegirl popstar who made crappy, idiotic movies. Ah well.
I can’t bring myself to type the name of that moronic song. I voted for it and am glad it won.
I voted for “Mo’Money, Mo’Problems” because I loathe that piece o’ crap and was beyond disgusted that TPTB foisted it on Charlie/Sharna (the final twist of the knives that had been planted firmly in their backs since about Week 3 of the season).
The Meryl-ites have ZERO to complain about. That “Papi” thing is utterly obnoxious to listen too (as is “Gasolina”), but it was still a better choice for a samba than Charlie’s and it could have been a decent dance if the C-Bros had tried instead of just folding their arms and sulking.
Thumbs up to the write-in vote for “Islands in the Stream”. That one’s right up there on my list of all-time, sap-tastic pieces of schlock that I’d prefer never to hear again.
I honestly think I Luh Papi or whatever was the worst because I think it was truly hard to do something with it (or it could be my adverse hate for the song that is blinding me). The other songs, while they sucked, a creative choreographer could have worked around them. I actually thought Sail and Mo Money mo problems could work in an interesting way and Sharna proved that in the end. Mo Money just stunk because that didn’t really fit Charlie.
Do you think the pros are just given a section of the song and they can only choreograph to the part or are they given the freedom to edit it? Because if they could edit, Maks could have edited around parts of it to get to the meat.

Don’t remind me!!!!! I voted for that same song. That was the worst song period. I don’t think that song qualifies for ANY dance, let alone a samba. When I hear it, I want to quickly mute that thing. I don’t think Mo Money Mo Problems would have fit anyone.
@Megan (#7), The pros are given the whole song to work with, but I think you’re kidding yourself that Maks has the choreographic chops, initiative, and creativity to pull together the best bits of a song. He’s the ultimate cookie-cutter, cut-and-paste kinda guy. Val probably could have done something with it, but he didn’t seem very motivated. (Danica-not-a-dancer was getting on his last nerve and, I thought, he was “phoning it in” most of the season.)
I think “Sail” did work out (the 3 Stooges killed that performance with their nasty comments), but I’m with Kate(1), “Mo’Money, Mo’Problems” doesn’t belong on DWTS not for any ballroom or Latin dance style.
I voted for the JLo song, simply because I honestly *cannot* stand it. It’s possible that Mo Money was actually worse as a samba selection, but I Luh Ya is just so dang annoying.
Some of the options for worst song simply didn’t fit the dance they were selected for (for example, Say Something would make a great V waltz – it just didn’t work for a rumba), while others were really terrible songs, period (see above) – and others actually weren’t that bad (Jack and Cheryl did a just fine samba to that Jungle Book song, so I’m *really* not sure what the Maks/Meryl fans have to complain about – other than the fact that Maks just doesn’t have it when it comes to choreography).
The one I voted for won 🙂 Not a surprise. It looks like nobody “luh” that song.
#Cidra #9 – I was just wanting to know if they had the opportunity to edit the songs to benefit their routines. I didn’t say anything about ability to pick out the best parts.
Actually Megan, what you did say certainly implied that they could edit the song to get the best parts. You just used the word “Meat” instead. Same implication. Either way, I don’t think Maks has near enough musical ability to be able to do that.
The first time I watched Charlie and Sharna’s samba, the song didn’t bother me…but upon hearing it again, I agree that it’s not suited to a samba at all. Must have been the great dancing that made the performance as a whole enjoyable, and distracted me from the song. Haha.
I voted for the JLo song because I really can’t stand it. The dancing that accompanied it didn’t help either. I hope we never hear it or Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems on the show again.
I feel Meryl (or her fans) hasn’t got much to complain about with the songs she was given. I thought I Wanna Be Like You was cute, and not too bad for a samba. It suits samba much better than Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems IMO. The foxtrot song didn’t suit the dance, but it was a nice song, and as I recall, she chose it herself. It may be just me, but if she just wanted a song named All of Me, I kinda wish she would have chosen a different song of the same name by Frank Sinatra. I think that one would have suited the dance well.
Adding to my previous paragraph: But of course, I don’t know what else influenced her choice of song…just that my impression from the rehearsal package that week was that she chose the song mainly because of the title.
Sorry about the double post!
excuse me guys, something was incorrect, the Pharrell song that Amy & Mark danced the Salsa during the switch-up week was “Brand New” feat. Justin Timberlake, not “GIRL” :p
When you guys say that “Mo Money Mo’ Problems” was a crappy songchoice, do you all just dislike the song in general or do you dislike it specifically for samba? Personally I like the song, and though I don’t think it suited samba or Charlie, Sharna is such an amazing choreographer that it didn’t bother me at all. The dancing was just fantastic. She’s made some pretty strange song choices work so well. She choreographed a killer routine to Everybody Dance Now, which didn’t suit the cha-cha at all IMO. And that Paso music was just awful, but she made it work! My hats off to her.
I don’t think Meryl’s Jungle Book song was close to being a crappy song choice. It was really cute and bouncy actually. I personally think it would make a killer quickstep, but rhythmically it seems to fit well with samba. It would make a great fusion song actually.
I went for I Luh Ya Papi on this. honestly the worst song was Mo Money, but Charlie and Sharna still went at it and I actually liked their samba so it made up for it. Same for the paso. Charlie’s attitude just really covers up all the crappy selections. Gasolina was stupid but if you ignore the lyrics and think of it as an instrumental it fits a samba quite well and the horrible costumes for that dance might be tainting our opinions. All of Me imo isn’t the best foxtrot song either but since i thought it fitted rumba better and meryl’s foxtrot looked and felt rumba-y i was ok with it.
I Wanna Be Like You is my favourite Jungle Book song and while it’s not the best song for a samba I would be happy to get to dance to it. It’s catchy and makes you want to dance. I don’t get what people have with it. IMO, just Meryl fans griping about how meryl didn’t score so well in it when maybe samba just isn’t her type of dance? I mean you can’t be great everything. and possibly maks fans since maks didn’t like the song.
When will the other two be? It’s been ten days.
