Promo And GMA Reports On Maks Chmerkovskiy’s Dancing With The Stars Judging Gig In India
In case you haven’t heard yet, Maks Chmerkovskiy will be guest judging for India’s version of Dancing With The Stars. Thanks to @IdolXFactor1, you can watch a Good Morning America report on it below (Lara, Maks is the biggest star from the show? Really? I think they are all big stars.). Also below is a promo from India thanks to Bravo Bollywood.
Another FYI: Gleb Savchenko’s wife Elena Samodanova is a pro on the show. If you’d like to watch India’s version of Dancing With The Stars, check their official site regularly.
Just my opinion but I don’t think the “biggest” star of dwts would be a judge on an India version of dwts.
If Maks is staying with the India version of the show and never come back to the US version, I’d be really glad.
LOL – too true, Carolyn.
Maks does not strike me as a globetrotter, on the contrary. So my guess is that the only reason he took this judging stint in India is because of prospects for more DWTS related opportunities in the US. And the fact that GMA reported on this stuff makes me think there’s more to it.
Whether people like it or not, Maks’ popularity increased by quite a lot during this past season. And I see DWTS making use of it in the near future. Have you guys seen the interview with Hillary Clinton where she said she was rooting for him?
Maks popularity increased because of a showmance. What an accomplishment.
GMA reported on it because Lizzie is probably up Robin’s ass about it. That’s how most things get reported – pushy publicists.
Even Hillary Clinton was rooting for Maks, that was funny. I wonder if she was a shipper too. lol
Say what you want about Lizzie, she gets the job done. Why does she push for Maks more than for Val though? They’re both her clients (she’s said so.)
Hillary Clinton was rooting for Maks??? Sorry, don’t buy it.
Maks will be perfect for the India show. He’s big, loud, good-looking, and arrogant. And his incompetency/awkwardness with English will make him sound “foreign”. Great match.
Honestly, if y’all think the DWTS judges are self-important… watch Indian shows w/ judging.
So I guess we can expect Maks and Meryl dancing Bollywood next?
Maks choreographed and gave dance lessons to Chelsea Clinton for her wedding dance, I can believe Hilary rooting for Maks.
I saw the interview with Hillary. She was asked, “Derek or Maks?” She said that this season she actually followed closely, and really liked them both. She did say that she was “relieved” that Maks “finally” won because she didn’t know what he would have done if he hadn’t. The woman is a diplomat.
As for the judging, I’m wondering in what language they will be speaking. Although, even if it’s (Russian- or Indian-accented) English, I can imagine that neither Maks nor native Indians will be able to understand what the other is saying. Could make for a fun show!
I don’t like this – please don’t let this be a run-up to Maks being a full-time judge here.
Thank you Susan. Apparently, a big difference between what was actually said and the way some tabloid media and Maks fans are spinning it.
Mr. Showmance better enjoy his time in the sun before the hysterical shippers realize he and ABC orchestrated soap opera drama for their votes.
Hillary saying she was relieved that Maks finally won is hardly a compliment. She didn’t say his choreography was outstanding. It sounds like she felt sorry for him if he didn’t win. He had a ringer and who knows what he would have done if he failed again!
I’m more peeved about Lara’s comment. Biggest star?? Maybe in ego and in his own mind. How much did the lizzard pay for that remark?
Lara, who is the most decorated pro on the show? Who is performing in his own tour in over 40 cities to soldout audiences? Who has an Emmy? Who is redefining “Choreography for this generation” (thank you Kenny Ortega)?
Who needs to have his ego stroked in order to feel good about himself (even if he is the one doing the stroking); and who lets his talent do the talking?
With Derek and Julianne touring the country performing their wildly successful show, I really don’t much care what Lara says, notwithstanding that it is factually incorrect. I try to guard against letting my energy get snagged by this crap. Derek is an incredible model of this; I am frequently bowled over by how he manages to skate above all the noise (and, frequently, venom). But I understand that if he allowed his own energy to be snagged, he wouldn’t be who he is, couldn’t do what he does. So in addition to “moving,” this is another area in which I try to emulate his example. The saying goes “living well is the best revenge.” Derek is currently living very well and very large. Maks is a temporary judge in India. I’m content to appreciate the beauty of the way things are.
Ditto to what Susan #14 said and said so well.
Thank you Susan.
A big difference between reality and how Maks fans spin it?? LOL – say it ain’t so!!
I really wouldn’t get too worked up about anything Lara has to say – hyperbole is her stock and trade as an “entertainment reporter”. When Derek has something to promote, HE will be the biggest star. That’s just how it works.
Jen, don’t post about other posters. You don’t like the discussion, you don’t have to partake. In fact, you’re doing what you’re complaining about.
@Jane5
I’m with you….I hope this judging in India does lead up to being a full time judge on DWTS. For one thing, I don’t think any one related to any pro dancer (if the relative is going to be on the cast list) for Fall Season 19.
Biggest star, lLara? People already think she is an overpaid joke. How she got this far in her career is more a testament to her agents than her talent. Sounds like Lizzie is making sure ?Maks is tons of attention.
Biggest star, lol! Even Abc has done many features on Houghs.
Penny, how does being big, loud and arrogant make one perfect for an Indian show?
Hillary Clinton might possibly be the first U.S. woman president and this is is one of the questions they ask her? The media is so freaking inane sometimes.
Lara Spencer has never exactly struck me as the brightest reporter in the room, so I’m not shocked she said something so idiotic.
After reading #7 Penny’s comment and #10 Susan’s, I suddenly had a vision of the judges’ table on the Indian version of the show: there were four people seated, and no, there isn’t a fourth judge. The fourth person is an interpreter for Maks.
@Susan2: it really doesn’t in most cases, but there’s this show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa (similar to the Voice, but without any sort of viewer input) that I used to watch at one point that had a bunch of judges that said any sh*t they could to sound important and educated, regardless of whether or not it applied to the singer they were critiquing. It was a bit of an off-color joke, and reading it back, I realize that it was offensive, for which I apologize. However, many of these sorts of Indian shows I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a few, I’m Indian) tend to hire rude, arrogant, obnoxious judges (e.g. Maks) who then proceed to insult the contestants they are judging in order to make themselves sound important. Probably absent from this category, and making my post irrelevant, is this particular show — IMO Madhuri Dixit brings too much class for it to descend to that level.
As far as the “foreign” bit, that was a bit of an internal sigh regarding India’s pop culture having a fanatical obsession with all things western, although Indian culture itself is largely a beautiful thing. Though I live in the US and am a citizen, I grow tired of seeing the same obsession with American culture — particularly in regards to clothing and speech (hence foreign sounding) — that pervades the media.
Sorry for this long and off-topic post mods, I’ll understand if parts need to be deleted.
So the prevailing opinion here is that Maks is chopped liver and didn’t accomplish anything by the wonderful partnership and, yes, dancing with Meryl. I believe Maks helped Chelsea and future husband with the dancing for the wedding.
With all of Derek’s gifts aside, he’d be the first to admit there are other dancers on this planet who can dance and choreograph.
Thank you
Thank you Penny for the clarification. I appreciate it.
We could have an extremely long post about India’s copying all the worst aspects about Western pop culture but I would derail the main topic of this post.
I couldn’t care less what Maks does. Heck, I didn’t even read the article just straight to this comment section. I found him to be a jealous person. He seems like a kid who wants to have the other kids toys/candy all the time. No difference with his fans. Whatever Derek have, Maks fans wants Maks to have it too. I came across on twitter a discussion about the Emmy for choreography and guess what, a fan of Maks said “give the Emmy to the Chmerkovskiy.” Really? How many times in the history of Maks on Dwts has he been nominated for best choreo? Y
What I like about Derek is he is beating his own drum. He is successful because he doesn’t see others as a threat. He even say he wants his Move Live tour dancers to be successful. He is so down to earth that I didn’t even know he can sing! I didn’t even know he plays musics(guitar, piano, etc). He is a true star for me.
Marg, you don’t like it here, you are free to leave any time. No, I don’t think that Maks is all that, nor Meryl either as his partner. She would have been better served by Val or Derek – although I would NEVER trade Amy for Meryl as that partnership was actually more remarkable and inspirational. And guess what, unlike some fan groups – I don’t actually allow DEREK to dictate how I feel about a particular person. I know that’s unheard of in Maks’ fandom as you all have a bit of the “lemming” aura about you. 🙂
And really, read what Hilary REALLY SAID. I wouldn’t call her a “fangirl” of just Maks by any stretch.
Susan2 – inane and sexist. Diane freakin’ Sawyer asked her if she would be able to enjoy being a grandmother if she was president. Are you KIDDING ME? Hillary just said that “Men have been doing it for a very long time.” The double standards and the casual sexism is annoying as hell.
@Thiana #26
What I like about Derek is that he is the same all the time. He isn’t a Jeckal & Hyde type person. He always gives 100% performance in everything he does and like you said, “He is beating his own drum and doesn’t see others as a threat.
I agree he is down-to-earth, not only can he dance & choreo, but he also sings and plays some musical instruments namely 3 – guitar, piano & drums. Derek is the kind of person that I feel I could always be comfortable with a friendship. No walking on egg shells, in other words or a roller-coaster ride.
@PHeidi
You hit the nail on the head. Hillary and her double standards are annoying
as hell. As for the comment “men have been doing it for a long time” well her husband was one of them. She needs to casually drift herself out of the political arena and do something worthy of appraise like just being a grandmother and strive to be admirable in it for a change.
It never fails to crack me up what extremes some of these media interviewers will go to just to get a story. And, who the heck is Hillary Clinton anyway? She sits on the toilet seat just like any other woman.
Marg, in order to determine how wonderful that partnership could be I would have to see what Maks could have done sans the heavy handed showmance (which he relied on heavily both on and off the dance floor) and of course without all the blatant maneuvering by the producers. Maks said on Wendy’s show that it was necessary, so I can only assume that he himself didn’t feel all that confident without it.
You misunderstand me, KKat. Hillary isn’t the one with double standards, the media and others are. And I happen to think she would make a FAR better president than any of the nimrods likely to run on the other side of the aisle.
I’ve always liked Hillary and I think it’s especially cool how she and Bill watch the show. I think she’d make a great president too. In fact, I’ve wondered a lot lately if she would have made a better President than President Obama.
I smell Lizzie Grubman’s pr skills (not) in the JLo Maks dating speculation. How to pimp your 15 minutes of fame.
I certainly don’t think she would have just taken some of the shit that Obama has just let slide – thinking of congress, specifically.
Yup, PH. And considering Hillary’s extensive resume, it is sad they made the interview about such unnecessary fodder. People on themother side saying Hillary being a grandmother should be a concern. But Mitt and his many grand kids no problems? I think she would have been a great president and no more exclusive boys club.
The country is definitely ready for a female president (Not Palin). I prefer Elizabeth Warren, Hillary would be my second choice. Have to agree Obama let congress walk all over him.
Maks being on the Indian show, uggh I hate Indian reality shows, it’s DWTS drama times a 1000. Though I LOOOVE Madhuri, she’s an exquisite dancer. Maybe the drama will suit Maks.
Love Elizabeth Warren, but she’s definitely not running.
just saw Hillary’s interview. It seemed like both Diane and Hillary were more worried for Maks’ sanity than anything. I don’t think that’s much of a compliment.
KKat, don’t say we’re going to agree to disagree and then write a dissertation on the subject. Since it was way off topic, I didn’t let it post. Sorry.
I can’t believe they’re still at it. @DancingABC just tweeted a throwback Thursday to Meryl and Max’s first dance. Someone should really let these folks know that the competition is over, M&M won, and the showmance has been unveiled. Time to MOVE ON!!!!!
Susan, all ABC cares about are the hits both on Twitter and their Web site. As long as they can string the shippers along, it will continue.
At this point ABC and the shippers are like a creepy stalker sitting in their car at 2AM staring at the window where their obsession lives while plotting to kidnap and chain them to a radiator in their basement.
It’s unsettling and freaky.
#43 Susan2
The whole thing has been creepy since it all started.
#42 Rose1
Agree with ABC trying to milk it for what its worth. It will continue until the next season rolls around, they want to keep these fans happy. I still can’t believe how many barfalicious FB posts about M&M we were subjected to at the expense of all the other participants this season. The shippers migrate to it very quickly like flies on shit. Who cares about actual choreography on this show???
@PHeidi #40
That’s okay. I understand, and I apologize for getting off the main topic, since this isn’t the place to get into politics.
I just got back from India, the only time I’ve heard the name of Maks was about the dating rumor not about this gig (in The Times of India). If he’s to be a star over there, he has still a long way to go.
[Mode nasty = ON] Maybe a gig as J.Lo toyboy would help [Mode Nasty = OFF]
