Kristyn Burtt Reveals Juicy Tidbits About Dancing With The Stars Season 18
Hey All! Kristyn Burtt revealed some Dancing With The Stars Season 18 scoop today at her Red Carpet Closet site. She posted an instagram talking of how the show almost paired Peta Muragtroyd and Charlie White up last year. Karina was suppose to be with James Maslow. Also, Sharna Burgess was suppose to be paired with Bruce Jenner originally (which makes me wonder about him possibly dancing in season 19?). Be sure you check out fun fun tidbits here. She cracks me up with the way she did the video too. lol Go Kristyn!!
Interesting, that shuffling reminds me of season 11 when Edyta left and resulted in a bunch if shifting.
I hope Bruce Jenner continues to be busy by the time next season comes around because I don’t want him on the show. I liked the idea at first but not so much now.
I also think a James Maslow and Karina Smirnoff would have worked wonderfully. The Charlie White and Peta pairing though… Not a fan. Didn’t really enjoy the two so much during switch-up week. I think the way everyone was partenered last season pretty much worked so ultimately I wouldn’t have switched anyone.
Sharna got a pretty impressive upgrade there – Bruce Jenner to Charlie White. 😀
Interesting that season with some of the better pairings was just happy accident and not actual planning. 🙂
Makes me a little sad to know that Sharna was originally gonna be given another not-so-good dancer (probably, anyway). She deserved a good partner, though, so I’m happy she got Charlie in the end.

Totally agree. I feel like Sharna is favored by the producers, if they intended to give her Bruce. Both Charlie and Sharna lucked out because it was an awesome unintentional match and they were perfectly suited to each other’s personalities. However, their journey to the semi-finals was hard and battered which only mentally strong people can put up with. I guess it will be good to see who they pair her up with in the upcoming seasons.
#6 Correction: I meant Sharna is not favored by the producers.
Just some thoughts:
1)Charlie and Peta: That would have been awkward. She tends to go right for the sensual/sexy and he would have just been very uncomfortable. Glad this didn’t happen 🙂
2)Karina and James: On paper this is kinda perfect but I;m also glad he got Peta this season as well becuase they produced some killer dances.
3)Sharna and Bruce: I want to see Bruce on the show….he isn’t technically a Kardashian. Give him to Cheryl or Sharna. Basically anyone but Emma. She had Rob and worked wonders. Bruce has an advantage over Rob. He is more likebable but there is the whole looking like a wax figure thing. He just needs someone that will make him have fun.
4) I kinda am wondering if any of the other couples weren’t supposed to be together at first.

I don’t really keep up with the Kardashians. If Bruce is on the show, he could do a Cha Cha to “Dude looks like a lady”. 😀
Karina and Kristyn look awesome!!! 🙂
In Bruce’s defense, he could be on the show on his own merit of being a gold medalist. His decathlon gold was considered one of the biggest events. Kris Jenner though, yuck and anything that keeps her and her family on tv I say no.
I don’t know who Kristyn’s source may be, but I heard a slightly different account this past weekend from Karina and her publicist, Melissa Berger.
My wife and I participated in a dance/fitness workshop led by Karina in Avon Colorado. During a Q&A session, Karina said that her pairing had been switched at the last minute when Sean Avery joined the cast on the condition that he be paired with Karina. She said that she never learned why he wanted her as his partner. (IMO, the reason is obvious … she is the best female pro.) She never mentioned either Charlie or Bruce Jenner.
In private conversations, Melissa said that Bruce Jenner dropped out at the last minute, Sean Avery was his replacement, and Karina lost her original partner as a result of Sean’s demand to be paired with Karina. However, Melissa claimed that Karina (not Peta) had been paired with Charlie before this switch.
I don’t know which (if either) of these accounts is account, but at least one is clearly wrong. FWIW, I personally believe Melissa.
Sorry. Last sentence should read: “… which (if either) of these accounts is accurate …”
I too believe Melissa’s account because I doubt producers would have separated Peta and James.
Yeah, Melissa’s account makes more sense, when you consider the producers putting Peta with someone she had gone out with and them hoping for DRAMA. I have a hard time believing that they would pass that up under any circumstances.
I believe it and Karina paired with Charlie against Maks gives the producers another angle. Too bad because Charlie and Karina could have given Maks and Meryl a run for his money. Though their showmance would win out but would have been interesting.
Of course I wonder if Maks was a last minute agreement to join for Meryl. I am still curious how the male pro side worked out.
Breck, thanks for mentioning that fact. I did see it mentioned on a Karina fan page that Karina was thrilled to have another shot with someone who can “learn fast” and was “hungry” after falling short of the trophy with Corbin who was so dedicated and hard-working. Sean did request Karina and someone had mentioned that his girlfriend (who is a model) had met or someone in her circle had met Karina and was impressed by her and well, of course look at Karina’s career! I don’t think Karina had any regrets about being paired with Sean though because her and her people said he was so sweet and caring towards Karina. He arranged for her to have a place closer to the studio so she wouldn’t have to travel long and far for the early morning calls.
I wouldn’t have minded seeing her dance with either Charlie or James. I think the producers would have thought fans would’ve liked seeing a Maks, Karina, Val, Peta final.
Lex, your assumption about Karina not having regrets regarding last season are not correct.
Sorry about the “subject/verb” thing. Should be “… is not correct.”
@Breck, I’m so sorry to hear that. I think the worst thing about S18 was the fact that she wasn’t in it for more than 2 weeks. A Karina/Charlie pairing would have been absolutely GOLDEN (I daresay far better than the Sharna/Charlie pairing), their personalities, styles and work ethics would have meshed really well I think. I so hope she gets a good partner next season.
I just hope Karina didn’t blame Sean’s early exit on herself.
@Kate(1) That’s too funny!
I love Karina, but, I’m glad Charlie was paired with Sharna. I loved them together. It’s just sad how the judges had to Macchio them off the show.
Oh,I think the Sharna/Charlie pairing was fantastic too, I voted for them all season — I just think heightwise and personality-wise, Karina would have been a little better wih Charlie. Sharna seems much more “intense” than Charlie, while Karina might have matched his lighthearted, playful style better, and I do prefer Karina’s more traditional choreography and how each piece of hers seems so perfectly tailored for her celeb (though I loved all of Sharna’s choreo too). And I really wanted her to get a great partner after Corbin so she could satisfy her Mirrorball hunger, which I want that for Sharna for next season. With that said, I wonder if Karina would have been able to cope with the ridiculous songs Charlie got as well as Sharna did. Maybe it all worked out for the best, what with Karina geting to do Dance Legends and all.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loove Ms. Sharna, and think that she did a fantastic job. Both of them, and Derek, make the show for me.
Karina choreographed a foxtrot to Black Eyed Peas. I think she is underrated for her choreo. Even Val got choreo compliments. Karina learned way before Maks it is not about the pro. She handled Ralph’s treatment well and her rumba with him is one of my faves. Karina also won without the biggest ringer or demanded JR or even Corbin.
Charlie and Karina would have been oh so much better than sticking him with Sharna. Sharna did not do him justice at all this season and I think it was a real shame. I feel he would have stayed in longer with a better, more well-liked pro than Sharna.
Couldn’t disagree with you more, Melissa C! I think Sharna is just as outstanding and well liked as Karina. Plus, Sharna and Charlie “looked” good together being they had similar coloring. A Karina and Charlie pairing would have looked odd imo. There is a reason the producers pair people together and I think they did the right thing.

I agree. Sharna and Charlie were a really good match whether it was intentional or not, both in terms of looks and personalities. The one part, that may have been a disadvantage in the grand scheme of things, is that Sharna started out with a really small fan base (at least judging from her twitter account).
I love Karina but I agree that Charlie got the right pro in Sharna. The deck was stacked against them from the beginning when Maks got Meryl and then it just snowballed week after week with the judges and showrunners hosing them. Charlie having Karina instead of Sharna would not have changed that outcome one iota.
You have to remember that even Karina is not some Teflon coated dancer where you can throw all kinds of crap at her and it won’t stick.
She was a victim of producer interference and storyboarding during her season with Ralph Macchio with the result of having the same placement as Charlie and Sharna.
I’m thrilled that we at least got to see some of Sharna’s stellar creativity in action this season with the Mary Poppins jazz, the Neon Cha Cha and the sizzling Tango.
Regardless of the outcome I am glad that Sharna paired with Charlie this season as I enjoyed their dances together.
OTT: I just saw a pic of Tanith with Charlie’s 3 sisters and his brunette sister looks so much like Sharna! No wonder they clicked together.
The only two couples I truly enjoyed watching this season were Charlie & Sharna and Amy & Derek. In my opinion, these two were the best and classiest matches of the season. 🙂
THIS^^ I couldn’t agree more Susan, Ria, and Kate!
