Dance With Me Studio’s “Sway” Lights Up New York City (Photos, Videos)
Lot’s to cover this morning, so bare with us! First of all, don’t miss seeing Dance With Me Instagram. Saturday Maks Chmerkovksiy, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Zendaya, Peta Murgatroyd, Tony Dovolani, and Elena Grinenko danced in two productions of “Sway” in New York City. They have videos and lots of coverage. This Tumbler page has some fun coverage too. The videos below were provided by Zendaya and a fan named Alannah. What a great night for them all and their fans.
ETA: @Dwtsgossip has a wonderful collection of photos too.
And people said tickets for Move Live on Tour were expensive!! VIP Meet & greet were over $500 for this! I’m sure it was a Fabulous show! My friend & her family were there as special guests of Maks.
Everyone looked like they had a great night and anything that showcases dance has to be applauded 🙂
I went to the matinee show and this show was the highlight of my summer! I thoroughly enjoyed everyone and I was thrilled to see Zendaya in action again. Peta and Maks were fantastic together! Hot! Hot! As a side note – I also got to see Grandma Sofia Chmerkovskiy – adorable lady! A fun time was had by all!! I also saw Artem C and boy is he divine!!
I imagine the top pro dancers on DWTS would put on a show nothing short of amazing, because they are all such amazing people and dancers on the show. I only just imagine what seeing a live performance by Derek & Julianne or by Maks & Val would be awesome. I am so looking forward to the fall season of DWTS S-19 and what kind of surprises the new producer has for us. :0
I wished they could have done this in more places besides NYC. Maybe just the bigger cities like LA and Houston so I can see it! Lol
#5 (Megan): I’m not sure if your aware of this but Tony, Maks, and Val own 5 studios in the Ny/ NJ areas called Dance With Me Studios. The dancers that were in this show Sway are all employed by Dance With Me studios as dance instructors so in other words they already have full-time jobs. This is why they aren’t able to take this show in the road because if they did, who would teach the students? Unless they take this show on the road with other dancers…
Good point but I’d still would have wanted to see it! Lol
If they wanted to take the show on the road, or could do the work required to take the show on the road, they absolutely WOULD because it would not only be great PR for their studios, but it makes MONEY. Do you think DWTS is thinking of doing another Tour just for fun??? And, AFAIK, neither Peta nor Zendaya are employed by DWM – and if Jenna is that’s news to me – and if they needed other dancers to do the show on the road so that some of their non-name dancers could stay back and teach?? Well, Derek and Jules auditioned over 400 dancers to get the 10 who danced with them on the road.
It could certainly be done. I would guess they only reason it hasn’t been done was that they were uncertain if it would sell – just like Derek and Julianne were unsure it would work until they actually did it. I wager that next summer you WILL see them take that show on the road.
It was a little embarrassing on The View today — someone mentioned the show and then “going on the road.” The C bros had to explain that they were not going on the road with their show, but were part of Ballroom With a Twist.
I also have to say that I find Maks disingenuous, at best. When he talked about his reason for not coming back to DWTS as a dancer he said he looked around and saw all these great dancers (including Val) and decided he shouldn’t be taking up a space instead of one of them. Sorry, but I just don’t see Maks as the magnanimous type. What is in my opinion more to the point is what he said to Derek the night that he won, which is that he (Maks) didn’t know how Derek did this 5 times because he’s just exhausted. I just don’t buy Maks the Benevolent.
What I find most worrisome is that after their segment and someone else’s, right before The View was going to sign off, Sherri made a point of saying that when they said Maks wouldn’t be returning to DWTS they meant as a dancer, that he could be returning in another capacity. Made my heart sink. I’m hoping it’s just a way for DWTS to keep everyone guessing. I don’t think having Maks as a judge will do the show any favors.
Susan, I don’t think he was being benevolent – I think he was being accurate. He finally realizes how much effort Derek and his partners made (and none were as big a ringer as Meryl, although Nicole was close), that it wasn’t a walk in the park – but he’s absolutely correct when he looks at Derek, Mark, Val, Sharna, Emma and several others and sees that they have something that he doesn’t. Like I said on another post – it’s a matter of training. He doesn’t have it. Val doesn’t either, but Val is talented beyond Maks – or at least open to learning.
I think the more Derek includes Val and Peta in his choreographed routines…they better they become 🙂
Susan and Heidi, I agree!
#8 -Heidi: I agree with you. I think they weren’t sure how the show would play out so they started “small”. I hope there will be something else in the works for next summer with “dancers for hire” so to speak. It was a fantastic show and I’m sure a lot of people nationwide would love to see it. We shall see…
