Janel Parrish’s First Dance On DWTS An Ode To Pretty Little Liars
Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy are doing a Jive for their first dance on Dancing With The Stars. Also, it will be an “ode to Pretty Little Liars”. Here is more from People…
I started dancing when I was 6 and was in and out of dance classes my whole life, but never anything with partnering and never any ballroom – so really never anything that’s going to help with this.
We are doing the jive this week, and my body’s kind of working against everything that I learned in my dance classes. Everything that my instincts want to do is not correct for the jive. Eventually, I think my instincts will be correct with certain dances.
My first dance contains an ode to Pretty Little Liars. If I get it right, which I think I will because Val’s going to whip me into shape, it’s going to be explosive.

I’ve never seen PLL nor am I interested. It doesn’t have a large viewership in grand scheme of things, just over 2 million.
Janel comes off a bit overconfident saying her dance is going to be “explosive”. That’s for the viewers to decide Janel. And making it an ode to PPL when 99% of America hasn’t seen your show seems a bit limiting. Of course I have no clue what an ode to the show will look like. Janel bugs me and I hope it goes away. If not, oh well. not getting my vote and I’m like Val.
Pardon the typos, didn’t notice until it was too late.
Jive in week 1? That might be a tough one for week one.
Explosive, Janel? Now, I’ll hold you to that. I am truly expecting to be blown away by your first dance.
Pretty little liars is a huge brand worldwide, and the viewership numbers don’t actually represent the viewership of the show, as the demographic is teens who mainly watch the show online. The show is the most tweeted about show in history, so they’ve got a huge following. Now that’s not to say janel will get the votes, as we know how big the older demographic is in the dwts audience, and teens stars don’t usually get the votes that people expect, but janel is a very popular star, more so than brant Daugherty although less so than the four main girls of PLL. The show just aired the mid season finale two weeks ago, where we saw *spoiler* janels character getting killed off (although she will remain on the show for flashbacks) which has definitely risen her profile within teens.
And Ashley, for the first week, i think it’s smart to use PLL as the inspiration for the dance, as her fans, and fans of the show will probably be tuning in for the first episode to see her dance, and they’ll definitely appreciate it. The shows Instagram page, which has the largest follower count amongst all tv shows (although we know numbers don’t really matter) has been advertising janel being on dwts, and it’s got a lot of interest.
@ashley & nobleze I think explosive is just a play on words, theyre jiving to Bang Bang
Well, Charlotte, it’s not Scandal. And Brant took seventh place. So we’ll have to wait and see. An awful lot goes into how far someone goes on DWTS.
I told my 12 year old cousin that she has jive and showed her this article/posting. She has a theory already on what the ode is going to be so I figured I’d share it with you guys too. She says this season on PLL the killer person blew up a house….her logic is that if the song is bang bang, there will be an explosion on the screen behind them and somehow she or Val or both are going to wear a hoodie like the killer does. How a 12 year old can remember all of this is beyond me but figured I’d share that.
@vin – That’s a little…morbid. But the thing is, “Bang Bang” is a sh*tty jive song – tempo is too even & slow, and it would require a lot of tweaking from the band. Not saying they don’t have that song, but I’m just saying it’s not ideal for jive.
Agreed on both counts. Bang Bang is a addicting song but maybe for cha cha. For a jive…..not so much.
I wish they would have the Jive later, so she could probably be a lot better, I think Val does the best Jive out of all the pros. I can watch him Jive any day
