More Details On How Dancing With The Stars Will Be Aired Tonight, Rob Wade Comments
On Friday, ABC released some show details for how Dancing With The Stars will be aired tonight in terms of the level of interactivity. ABC.com will be offering five live streams from key positions at the show venue, allowing fans to choose views of the Red Room, judges, sky box, a wide angle of the dance floor and a hosted feed that will highlight relevant social media conversations. Below is more information from USA Today and Executive Producer Rob Wade. This is going to be cool and it’s going to be fun to see Lacey Schwimmer again too. Pic above courtesy of Mandy Moore.
During the premiere, ABC.com will offer four live-streaming backstage cameras and a simultaneous digital show called Dancing with the Stars: All Access hosted by Dominic Bowden and Lacey Schwimmer. The live streams are meant to be consumed as a second-screen complement to the television broadcast.
“You’ll see a lot of the stuff that happens backstage during the show and during the commercial breaks,” said Dancing with the Stars executive producer Rob Wade. “Really what you see on the show is only half the story so we felt like it was something that really gave you all-access to our cast.”
The backstage cameras will feature views of the judges, skybox, backstage Red Room, and the lower balcony. Online viewers will be able to choose which camera to stream. The simulcast digital program will feature commentary and interviews during commercial breaks as well.
In addition to the live streams, viewers will be able to keep tabs on couple’s rehearsals throughout the week. Raw rehearsal footage as well as original digital content will be uploaded to abc.com every week.

Will the stream be available for international fans or its only for us viewers?
But I think it is a good idea. Finally they are really taking advantage of Internet.
I’m just hoping I can watch too….
I don’t know? I hope so!
“Rehearsal footage throught out the week” .. now THAT is an awesome idea. I have always liked how on Strictly Come Dancing, the show always releases a video in their online site of all the couples rehearsing every single week.
I really like the way they are using the internet in this case. Major points to you Rob Wade!
lena, depending on where you live, I would imagine you will have to at least get around the territorial restrictions to watch the stream. However, if it is the same as live streaming of the actual show on abc.com, than we are out of luck 🙁
I use Hola unblocker for Mozilla Firefox to watch clips on abc.com and I can only watch the entire episodes 1 week after airing. There are ways to live stream the show other than through ABC, but I worry that we won’t be able to watch the skybox and backstage there.
We shall see, hopefully it’s gonna work for us too. If not, then I will be happy for the US fans that they get to see some extra footage 🙂

I’m from Europe. Usually I download it on torrentz. Normally a day later it’s available.
We can watch the dances ob youtube, there are some channels. But I never watched live. So it’s a bummer. You’d think they would like to have international fans…
Well I’m just happy for the show. Finally it’s the day, and my dancing cravings will be satisfied. 🙂
So now we have to watch online simultaneously with the live show. I hope they keep those views so we can see them post shows.
I’m on the West Coast. Will I be able to get on the internet at 5pm (8pm EDT) and see the “alternate views?”
As much as I love this idea… I love sitting on the couch in the front the television with my snacks (or um, munchies, hehe!) with my glass of iced tea much better. 🙂
The All-Access live stream sounds interesting. I can see how it would appeal to a lot of folks. Might give it a try although generally I don’t like watching 2 screens at the same time. Hope their network is up to handling more traffic.
I really like the idea of the mid-week rehearsal footage as long as it’s even-handed and *all* the couples get the same amount of exposure.
Susan, I think so.
Sandy, I do both…but, my favorite is watching the show on television too.
Goddammit, I ain’t got time for this live stream sh*t. Not only do I have to find a live feed tonight due to DWTS being preempted locally due to Monday Night Football, but but between taking notes for my power rankings, tweeting, and minding the comments at Pure, ain’t nobody got time for a bunch of interactive poppycock. DISLIKE!!!
LOL Court. Ditto! I won’t be watching any of the interactive stuff unless they have it available after the show. I mean…I like DALLAS as well and it’s hard enough to multi task two shows and the sites as it is. lol
#Vogue — Since the alternate views need to be online from 8pm EDT to 1am EDT (10pm PDT), they will be on either before or after the show in each time zone.
Thanks Susan, I guess we’ll soon see how it’s going to work, but, what I mean is that I hope they record it and have it available to view after the show, tomorrow, etc. so we can watch it when we want or are able to.
Well, good luck with that … I’m still waiting for last season’s in studio Team Loca performance …lol
LOL!!!!!
I just hope their server can handle all of this. Given the times there were problems with just voting, I wonder how the system will handle both livestreaming and voting together. Some of the coverage could be interesting, but aren’t we supposed to be watching the dancing. I guess TPTB think the viewers have ADD and need to be amused at all times. It’s a little overkill.
Personally, I love that DWTS will show multiple views tonight – I usually am on my computer and ipad during the show anyway! But, like others have said, I hope that the extra camera angles are available after the show airs. I do like the idea of raw rehearsal footage – that’s pretty cool. And I’m happy that we get to see Lacey involved again!
Went to the site and found out that my cable provider is not on the list so I won’t be able to see any of it. My provider is Time Warner Cable, so you’d think it would be on the list, but it’s not. Not nice to put a hurdle like this in the way.
I think the backstage feeds must be separate from watching the live stream of the show on their site – otherwise, why do it? Only a subset of the audience would be able to watch. I get why they do that with the actual show.
It appears you can watch the backstage feed even if you are blocked from a live stream of the show http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/all-access
Thank you!!!!!!
Several times stage workers were caught on camera that were not supposed to be there. Two times Tom had stage workers in his shot that were intentional.
On episode 3 of season 19 at least 4 times crew members were caught on camera.
Ummmm…k, DR. What’s that got to do with the price of tea in China?
lol I agree. DR, they were trying to get scenes for the All Access part of the show too in case you didn’t know.
It is unprofessional to have crew members pass thru a camera shot.
Not if it’s intentionally done to bring the audience more into the show. Clearly that was the case here and they’ve done it two weeks in a row. They don’t have to have Tom standing in a spot where you’ll see crew, obviously.
Now, if you want to talk about *cameramen* crossing a shot when the couples were dancing – then we can talk. But you said crew members and I didn’t see any camera men problems last night.
@DR – I believe it’s called “breaking down the 4th wall” and it’s quite a trend in the RS world right now. Did you notice they are also showing some of the producers the pros and celebs are talking to in their packages? I actually find it rather refreshing.
It works for me. It gives me a “you are there” vibe that I like.
#Lena & # Voguerista – last week the streaming live WAS possible for the international viewers 🙂
It WAS great to watch it live I just wish we could VOTE via telephones too…
I wish so too! Glad you were able to watch!
