DWTS Season 19 Week ONE RESULTS!! Let’s discuss tonight’s show! (Spoilers)

Yay – a results show!! Let’s hope for some great dancing!! Maybe material for cheesecake, if Courtney and I are feeling up to it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Once again, comment to your hearts contents, as long as you remember the show night rules.

  1. Our server gets totally hosed when people sit at their computer and click “refresh” constantly. Post a comment, then walk away for five minutes so that others have a chance…and so that Courtney and I can actually post on the site. ๐Ÿ™‚
  2. THIS SITE IS NOT TWITTER. Do not post like you are on twitter. You get one warning and then I put you in time out. ๐Ÿ™‚ We need context and content. Believe it or not there are a lot of people who don’t watch the east coast feed of the show, so they don’t know what the hell you’re talking about when you post a comment that says, “Boy, that sucked.” ย If you want to say “____ and ____’s dance was not good at all, crappy choreo” that’s fine. That would be context. It is good. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย Remember, if you post five one liners in five minutes, you’ve broken rule number 1. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lots of fun ppl in the audience like…..RALPH MACCHIOOOOOOOOO !!! (I love him.)

Nice opening dance by the women – Allison and Whitney pretty much rule this style but they were all awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thought for sure they were gonna call Betsey safe. That they didn’t makes me question whether she actually IS safe.

So, I guess we’re putting four in jeopardy? Lea? That’s just wrong.

Allison is just a BEAST.

Oh. My. God. Derek’s screen test. Best thing I’ve ever seen. And neither he nor Julianne had a clue what was going to be shown.

Okay….The four in jeopardy are:

Michael and Emma

Betsey and Tony

Lea and Artem

Lolo and Keo

And tonight, leaving the ballroom is…..(This was a REAL BOTTOM TWO with Betsey being the other half)

LOLO AND KEO

Courtney’s Pick: Lolo and Keo

Heidi’s Pick: Lolo and Keo

Vogue’s Pick: Lolo and Keo

Watch DWTS Mark Ballas’ New “Miss Incredible” Video, Order “Kicking Clouds” EP

Mark Ballas’ new music is off the hook (in my opinion). First, he knocked our socks off with “Get My Name” last Spring. Today, Mark released a video for his new song “Miss Incredible” which is dedicated to women everywhere. You can watch it at this link or at midnight below. If you’d like to order “Miss Incredible” or Mark’s new EP “Kicking Clouds”, see these two iTunes links: and Let’s hope Mark performs his new single on Dancing With The Stars this season!

ETA: You can also read Mark’s new Dancing With The Stars blog at Hollywood Life. I loved what he wrote on Julianne.

DWTS Season 19, Week 1 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, I have to say that Iโ€™m really pleased with the dancing we saw last night. The show as a whole was rather sloppy, but thatโ€™s somewhat typical for the first show of the season when itโ€™s jam packed with people.ย  Anyway, I just loved it. Of course, Derek is my favorite, but I canโ€™t really pick another favorite. Love Jonathan, Sadie, Tommy, Alfonso, Randy, Leaโ€ฆ.and of course, Bethany.

For those of you new to this blog, this is the post where I figure out how many votes the various couples need in order to stick around.ย  The math is fairly simple: you add up the total number of points handed out over the night, divide that total into each coupleโ€™s individual score for their percentage of the judges scores. The viewer votes are handed the same way โ€“ the total number of votes is divided into a couples votes for a percentage. The two percentages are then added together and the couple with the lowest combined total goes home.

Letโ€™s take a look at the scores and the percentages:

Table 1

Now, as much as I love Sadie, I donโ€™t think she is only 2 points back from Alfonso and 2 points ahead of Bethany and Lea. And sheโ€™s certainly not that far ahead of Randy. Nope. But she probably has the weakest fanbase on the show of those who can actually dance, so they might be protecting her a tiny bit. Although I donโ€™t think thatโ€™s necessary.

Why? Well, while we have some absurdly high scores for week 1, we also have some really low scores for week 1. And sadly, most were deserved. Personally, I enjoyed Betsey WAY more than Lolo โ€“ and I would bet the average viewer agrees with me. ย But Betsey is at the bottom.ย  Hereโ€™s what she needs to do to stick around:

Table 2

She only needs, roughly, 5,400 votes per million votes cast in order to stay over Lolo. Call me crazy, but I think she gets those votes. And Lolo kinda did it to herself with the constant talking. I could certainly be wrong, but she took a dance that was hard to watch and turned it into a whole segment that was hard to watch. Thank god for Tom Bergeron. Yikes.ย  Anyway, I think Betsey gets past Lolo. Good thing, too, because I donโ€™t think sheโ€™s going to make it past either Michael or Antonio โ€“ Antonio, while somewhat wooden, certainly has his fans. Michael is just adorable and I want him to stay forever. But I feel that way about half the cast right now.

For the sake of argument, letโ€™s say that Betsey is totally safe. What does Lolo have to get in order to also be safe? She needs the following:

Table 3

She needs roughly 8,100 votes per million votes cast in order to beat either Michael or Antonio and honestly, I would be shocked if she got it. I feel very bad for Keo โ€“ I donโ€™t want him to go. She needs 13,450 to get past Tommy and I donโ€™t see that happening either.

So, without belaboring the point, I think Lolo goes home. If itโ€™s not Lolo, it will be Betsey โ€“ itโ€™s possible that where I saw charming, many saw trainwreck. If thereโ€™s a shocker I will do a post results explanation of what I think happened.

One final point, with all the characters in this cast, there are a couple people who need to watch out. Janel is the big one, IMO. All the hype she and Val have been putting out there and I donโ€™t think she lived up to it. Make no mistake โ€“ sheโ€™s a decent dancer. But she got off easy โ€“ they tagged Lea as the ringer when Janel has more recent experience and got off scott free. This pisses me offโ€ฆbut by the end of the show I had forgotten about her. Thisย leads toย dangerous, shocking elim territory in coming weeks. Unfortunately, there are a lot of good dancers that could fall in to this trap โ€“ Lea, maybe Sadie and possibly Bethany (although with Derek as a partner, she will stand out whether she wants to or not). I love all three of them, but they are going up against Tommy, Randy, Alfonso, Jonathan and Michael?? These guys are not necessarily better dancers but they command the screen. Even if they are not the best dancers, you grow to LOVE them. So watch out, girls โ€“ this is a tough season.

Executive Producer Rob Wade Interviewed On The New Cast Of Dancing With The Stars And More

Give it up to Dancing With The Stars Executive Producer Rob Wade! I can’t commend him enough for the cast he’s put together and all the changes and surprises we saw last night!!! It really feels as if he is listening to us (ie: choosing Allison Holker to dance, bringing Sharna Burgess and Gleb Savchenko back, and more). Below is a new interview with The Wrap for where he talks all about it. More at the link for why he chose Julianne Hough as a 4th judge, how there will be more guest judges, and more!

The Wrap: Have you met your expectations on the cast?
Rob Wade: What’s great is we have a real diverse cast. Nineteen seasons in, we’re still able to find people from different backgrounds and different types of celebrity. We have Bethany Mota, a YouTube star. We’ve never had that before. Also, NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip, we’ve never had that before and it really opens the show up to others. We have young. We have old. We have some really good dancers, as well. I’m excited by it.

How much does the craziness of the show’s casting rumors affect your decisions? Do you take a temperature on it?

I wouldn’t say we take a temperature on it, no. We definitely listen to people’s ideas and hear what people have to say. Casting the show goes beyond โ€˜Is that a good name?โ€™ You have to think of the cast as a family and you need different aspects for the cast. It can’t be one note.

We’re the only show out there at the moment that’s genuinely a family show. You can watch this with your grandchildren, your aunt, your grandfather, your father. There’s something in this show for everyone. So, obviously, not everyone is going to please everyone. If they did, we did something wrong. Everybody in the family has to have someone to cheer on.

Fans seem to miss having a results show. How do you handle the loss of that?
No individual one thing is bigger than the show as a whole. It’s just a great format. It gives us great ability to do different things. We have got two results shows for the first two weeks this season, which is great. There’s a lot of entertaining and interesting stuff in there.

But then again when we do get to one day a week, the great thing about that is that you make it an event once a week. Both things are good. You have to adapt and use change for your advantage.
