Mark Ballas Blogs On Dancing With The Stars Season 19 Week 3

Mark Ballas writes of how disappointed he was in the scores for him and Sadie Robertson last night on dancing With The Stars….especially being Carrie Anne said it was one of her favorite dances, but, then she scored them like everyone else. Other than that and the elimination of Randy, Mark was happy with how the night went down. Below is more from Hollywood Life.

Really proud of Sadie tonight! I thought her technique was great; I was really impressed with her frame, considering it was her first ballroom dance. I was a little underwhelmed and disappointed in the scoring. Carrie Ann Inaba said it was one of her favorites of the night, but then scored the same as everyone else. I felt like it could have been 9’s across the board.

I was very impressed with Tommy Chong, I thought he did wonderfully. So cool to see how well he moves, especially at his age. It’s amazing and just goes to show that dance has no age. I was also really impressed with Derek Hough and Bethany Mota. What a great rendition of “Singing In The Rain” – not easy shoes to fill! I also thought Val Chmerkovskiy and Janel Parrish did a great job.

It was a little early in the season, in my opinion, for 10’s. I’ve never seen 10’s this early in the competition, but I felt that the dances that got them definitely earned them. I would have given those dances 10’s, too! But I was surprised that the judges gave them out this early in the season.

DWTS Julianne Hough Photo Diary: “I love the vibe of the ’70s! There is a such a sexiness and ease to it all”

Did you like Julianne Hough’s look last night on Dancing With The Stars? I thought she looked so pretty again. She talked with People about it. Below she talks of how she loves the 70’s era (I do too). More at the link including pictures of Julianne getting ready for the show.

“I love the vibe of the ’70s! There is a such a sexiness and ease to it all,” Hough tells PEOPLE. “The music, the clothing and the hair and makeup of that decade has always really resonated with me. We found the beaded bodysuit portion of this outfit first and the minute we paired it with the high-waisted pants it suddenly became this retro, ’70s, fabulous thing and we just built the rest of the look around that core story. It really felt like the perfect look for week three!”

Hough’s stylist Anita Patrickson added that she picked up on the week’s “Movies” theme to pay homage to “Charlie’s Angels, Starsky and Hutch and the style icons of the ’70s like Ali MacGraw, Mia Farrow and Farah Fawcett. The ’70s is already a huge trend this fall and it was the perfect moment to introduce it (subtly!) into Julianne’s look.”

Carrie Ann Inaba Writes On Her Stand Out Performances On Dancing With The Stars Week 3

Carrie Ann Inaba has written a new blog at Parade. Her two stand out performances this week were Derek and Bethany along with Val and Janel. Carrie Ann also loved Tommy Chung. She also explains why she was harsh this week on Lea (I actually agreed with Carrie Ann on Lea. I think her posture needs improvement as I wrote in comments in Courtney’s Power Ranking post. I noticed this issue in previous weeks as well).

So, the third performance I’d like to talk about was Mr. Tommy Chong. I think I need to explain my Yoda compliment. And it was indeed a compliment. First of all, Yoda is a master, a soft-spoken, yet highly enlightened being who gives the advice that will save the world. He’s distinguished and masterfully skilled yet demure and understated, just like Tommy Chong was in his incredible Argentine Tango performance. There was an special sort of wisdom in the movements and a masterful skill that came across like poetry. He had a few tiny wobbles (but it’s difficult to dance in smoke on that stage). But it felt poetic on all level with a quality that words cannot do justice. It felt like we were having a chance to sit with a master … a wise dancing sage.

I see that some folks are upset with my scores for Lea Thompson and Artem Chigvintsev. There is no doubt that she is one of the best dancers we have this year. And I would say a true contender. She’s got sizzle and sass and all the right moves. However, she was not centered in her Cha Cha performance. It happens. Sometimes, especially for women in heels, we can lose our balance and since it’s a fast-paced dance, it’s hard to get our feet back under us. It’s happened to us all at some point. Her focus was not as razor sharp as usual and her posture could become a problem if not fixed early. That is why I pointed it out. So she can improve upon it. The performance as a whole was about an 8 except then she also had a few mistakes so I deducted for it. My goal as I said last night to Allison Holker is never to diminish or to discourage but rather to encourage improvement. Everything I said to Lea is with love and respect for very real chance to head to the finals.

PureDWTS19 Question: Did you approve of Kevin Hart’s judging last night? (New POLL, VOTE)

Did you approve of Kevin Hart’s judging last night? VOTE in our new Poll and let us know what you think and how you voted in comments.

My thoughts: I thought Kevin was fantastic. What I love about the guest judges is that they judge on the “entertainment” factor much like we would do. I think it’s nice to have a perspective like that added to the judges panel just to cover all bases since this competition is not always about ‘technique”. He was so funny and entertaining too. I love how he screamed out the scores in his own way too. Hilarious.

PureDWTS Season 19, Week 3 – Power Rankings

Well, I guess the euphoria of having my dream contestant on DWTS would finally wear off – and this was the week that it happened.  What a three-ring circus of nitpicking, wonky scoring, and overall chaos.  From what I saw from the judges – crack is whack, and so is meth, heroin, and bath salts, apparently.  Julianne wins the “twatwaffle of the night” award, for generally just being a bit of a cranky b*tch – so in other words, she was filling in for Len.  Hooray.

Sorry, but the wrong person went home – Randy may not have been the best dancer, but he was not nearly as bad as the score he got last week OR this week…but hey, the judges need their scores & critiques justified, so they had to screw him somehow.  Absolutely no reason that he should have been forced to go first TWO weeks in a row, basically making a mad dash from the opening  number to the quickchange; and to add insult to injury, this week he had to do it after being told he was in jeopardy.  Classy, Wade. I just might have to spoil a bunch of sh*t early to get back at you…

…as for Kevin, I actually think he turned out being a pretty decent judge.  I liked that he didn’t seem like he was out to really critique anyone, and tried to see the positive in everyone’s routines.  Also enjoyed his humor, and thought it was kinda cool how he seemed genuinely moved by Bethany & Derek’s dance.  He can come back anytime and enthusiastically yell out scores 😉

1.) TIE: Bethany & Derek and Janel & Val – So the first two perfect 40’s of the season.  I feel one was deserved; the other? Meh. Felt like an awful lot of emphasis was placed on Janel & Val’s struggles with switching the routine, there was a lot of futzing around at the beginning of the routine, and then the score was almost given as a consolation prize for putting up with the crap.  Sure, Janel handled what she was given decently well – she should, given her background – but a 40? For wiping Val’s abs with a towel? Sorry, not buying it.  But hey, they seem bound & determined to make Vajanel happen, so I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised.  As for Bethany – I had been worried, after hearing that her ankle injury was still very much an issue; but thank the lord Derek was able to choreograph something that was true to Singin’ in the Rain while being feasible for her to execute.  God bless umbrella work that doesn’t go awry 🙂 And Bethany kept up, and for the first time, she really seemed 100% invested in the routine, which is what I’ve been wanting from her since the first week. I don’t see either going anywhere for awhile, but it should be interesting to see who fares better next week… Read more..

From these interviews and coverage, we learn that Derek & Bethany and Val & Janel have a Rumba next week. They are saving the “Carlton” for another time. Emma & Michael have a Quickstep. Note too how Karina mentions that her contract is up this season on Dancing With The Stars and it could be her last. *CRIES
