Derek Hough’s Halloween Blog – With an Immunity Explanation

Well, sort of.  Plus, he and Beth are doing Salsa.  From TV Guide – click the link to read his entire blog:

Salsa’s also a hard dance because there are so many steps. You have to be careful. You can do the club style, but the problem with that is you can look sloppy with a non-dancer. It has to be more structured. I also really want to interject some fun and humor. And yes, we’ve been working on our Lucy and Ricky impressions all week. She goes, “Oh, Ricky!” And I’m like, “Lucy! You got some ‘splaining to do!” I think my Ricky is pretty good if I do say so myself!

The first place team will be immune from elimination this week and everyone else will have to do the dance-off. If you’re in second place, you chose who you want to dance against and they chose the dance style. The options are cha-cha, jive and rumba. Not gonna lie, we haven’t prepared for that yet! We’re going to start later today. It’s more work, but it’s all good.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing With The Stars Sadie Robertson And Mark Ballas Talk With Access Hollywood

And of course, they couldn’t resist dressing up for Halloween. I couldn’t agree more for what Mark said about Len…

DWTS Sharna Burgess “There is a very sexy thing about a man that can dance–and also a woman”

Dancing With The Stars Sharna Burgess talked with Just Amorous about the show and what she thinks the key to her success has been. Below is more including her thoughts on what we can learn from a man and a woman when they dance. She also discusses who she would love to dance with if she could.

JA: What do you think has been the key to your success on the show?

SB: One of the biggest things you can do when you come on a show like Dancing with the Stars is to be unique. My choreography has its own style in comparison to other people. Not better or worse; just unique. I think that is what helps me stand out. To be honest, this job requires that you are a fantastic dancer/choreographer, but you have to have the art of patience. If you don’t have that, you are not going to love your time here. It can be very frustrating, but also very rewarding once you’ve put the work and time in.

JA: What can we learn about a man based on the way he dances?

SB: There is a very sexy thing about a man that can dance–and also a woman. I think it exudes confidence when someone can dance. That is probably one of the best qualities a person can have—confidence in yourself and who you are, and the way that you move, whether you dance or not. As human beings we feed off of energy, and I think that confidence, and a little bit of cockiness in men, is an extremely attractive quality. Women flock to that. So, I think that dance goes hand in hand with it. If he’s out there and dancing on the dance floor; that means he’s got the confidence to do it, and the confidence in knowing how to use his body.

JA: Who would you like to dance with if you had unlimited access to every person who’s ever walked this earth (past or present)?

SB: Certainly Gene Kelly would be one of my absolutes. I am the biggest fan of him. Mikhail Baryshnikov is another one who I find just absolutely mesmerizing. I always look to the greats. The Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire. Even Shirley MacLaine, and all the West Side Story (1961) cast. I admire and love dance back in that day–it was so innovative, so real, and so raw. I love it. Growing up as a kid I was introduced to some of the old school movie greats, including Singing in the Rain, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Calamity Jane even. There was a lot of older movies that I was exposed to, and I just sort of fell in love with it–that old Hollywood. Definitely, it would be all the greats (laughs).

More at Just Amorous. Excellent interview!

DWTS Julianne Hough Names Her “Hero”, Dresses Up For Halloween With Brooks Laich

This is so sweet! Julianne Hough named her “hero” in the uplifting web series “My Hero”. She named her sister Sharee. Sharee started it all by being the one to “dance” and perform first from the kids in their family. Julianne surprises her with an important gift that has been a long time coming. You can watch it HERE. #awwwwmoment

Also, isn’t this a fun Halloween instagram of Julianne and her boyfriend Brooks Laich? They dressed up as Austin Powers and Felicity Shagwell! Too fun. Thanks to Jennie for the heads up!

DWTS Season 19, Week 7: Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, it’s really interesting how the team dances make an already screwed up leader board even MORE screwed up. In what universe is Sadie below both Lea and Janel?? Cray cray universe, that’s which one. I can’t figure out what they have against that girl – and why they are so high on Lea. They have Lea as 4 points higher than Sadie in her individual dance – it’s’ times like this when I think that perhaps giving your celeb very simple choreo is an advantage. I’m not sure it should be. Mark went with a production and harder choreo and wasn’t rewarded at all for challenging Sadie AND teaching her to dance. Was she a little wobbly in spots? Sure – but she also had harder choreo.

I dunno. Don’t get me wrong – I love Lea too, but these oddities make me scratch my head.  Because in the past, one of the requirements from the judges certainly seemed to be upping the challenge each week, if they were a good dancer. But, as usual, the rule that applies to some pros/celebs doesn’t apply to all.  I was ready to be super pissed at Len, for example, when he started talking about production to Derek on a HALLOWEEN themed episode – but instead of giving Derek his usual 7, he gave him a 9. Shocker. But then we found out that Len was saving his true ire for Mark and Sadie. Granted, they had MORE production and the dance wasn’t quite as strong – but NINE points difference?? Lord have mercy, whose cheerios did Mark pee in? (Note to Mark fans: you should focus your silly hate on the people actually handing out scores…and here’s an idea, instead of trying to pull Beth’s score DOWN, you should be bitching to get Sadie’s score UP. Always, the focus on Derek when he had nothing to do with it. Stupid.).

As we have often speculated in the past, the one reason to low ball someone is for the storyline. Often a storyline that includes the lowballed celeb getting a shit ton of votes. This way, when they are safe…or even end up WINNING…everyone will be shocked. The audience will look at each other in wonder and say, “but she got low scores all the way up to week __ – that’s amazing she won!!” Because, folks, not everyone is really paying attention and some of the audience ain’t actually too bright (see: shippers).  Where this becomes a problem is the other side of the stupid audience coin – sometimes constant lowballing leads the sheeple…I mean, audience to believe that that person is not as good a dancer as they actually are. There are people out there who actually believe the judges know what they’re talking about (gasp), when in reality, there is more that goes into their scores than actual dancing a lot of the time.
