Dancing With The Stars Michael Waltrip: “The Pressure is on….”

Michael Waltrip tells Crash.net that the pressure is on for he and Emma to put together a dance that will get them great scores so he can continue to keep dancing….and that is just what he’s doing. Here is more….

Now predominantly sticking to his role as team co-owner of Michael Waltrip Racing and working as part of FoxSports commentary team for the weekend’s NASCAR events, the 51-year-old now finds himself having to find time to wear two extra hats. Not only is he driving the teams’ #66 entry out on Sunday in Alabama, but he’ll also be once again showing his moves on the dance-floor some 24 hours later in Los Angeles as part of the celebrity line-up on ABC television’s Dancing with the Stars competition, which is currently in its sixth week.

Maybe Waltrip hadn’t expected to survive this long into the show’s run with dance partner Emma Slater, and had thought that he would have been freed up in plenty of time to concentrate on the driving. But that doesn’t mean he intends to slack off in either role this weekend.

“My time on Dancing with the Stars has been an incredible experience. It is obviously fun, but also a lot of hard work,” he said. “When I get a free moment from the car and my television responsibilities, I am going to go dance with Emma and work on our dance.

“I am disappointed we didn’t get better scores [last] week because I thought we had a really fun dance,” he said. “I think it was entertaining, it was everything I had hoped it would be but we got terrible scores. The pressure is on Emma and I to put together a dance that will get us great scores so I can continue to keep dancing. That is exactly what I plan on doing.”

Waltrip added that he felt his appearance on the prime time TV show was managing to have a positive effect on drawing a new audience into trying out NASCAR racing. “As an industry, we have always tried to find ways to get in the mainstream conversation. When 15 million people watch me outside of my comfort zone every week, I would say we definitely are getting in the conversation!”

More at Crash.net. Go for it Michael and Emma! You can do it!

DWTS Season 19, Week 5 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Wow. What a night. And not really in a good way. While I certainly think that Julianne is ten times the judge that Carrie Ann is, all of them needed a good smack the other night for being so ungodly rude. No, I do not disagree with some of the scores they were handing out (although Sadie and Alfonso got hosed in a big way), but the timing and the comments. You wanna use those paddles, how about NOT throwing out 6’s, 7’s and 8’s to those same people for the first four weeks.  You say “Oh, it’s now week 5, we have to get tough. NO! THIS IS STUPID THINKING!  No matter how often you say that’s what you’re doing, it just comes off as dumb – and as if you’ve had the realization if you don’t start scoring some of those guys low, they’re going to stick around for a while. :::rolls eyes:::

I will say that one time that I loved was when CAI asked Val what his dance was supposed to mean – thanks for asking what all of America was probably trying to figure out. Val, you have potential but you have a long way to go before you hit Derek’s level. A long way. And you’ll never get there as long as they keep giving you partners with dance experience. You need a Joanna…and more clarity of vision. And pills that help you resist the showmance bug.

What else did I like? Well, not very much. Alfonso and Sadie were fantastic. Bethany was very good. And that was pretty much it. Problem is that I heard some of what went on behind the scenes and it just makes me feel bad. This is my happy, shiny dance show and they’re determined to screw it up. And no, it’s not Julianne’s presence or Len’s absence – that’s too simple minded. Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing with the Stars Season 19, Week 6 – Who’s Dancing What….and When? (Song Spoilers)

It’s Pitbull week! Except not really…oh wait, I know! It’s Latin week! Nope, not really that either…hmmm.  Who the hell knows what the theme of this week is supposed to be.  Some couples are dancing to Pitbull songs, but not all of them; and we’ve got a few ballroom dances peppered into a bunch of Latin dances…oh, and one lone jazz.  A little something for everyone, I suppose.

I could see Jonathan making a bit of a comeback this week, since jazz seems like it would be right in he & Allison’s wheelhouse; Mike is likely pretty screwed with the Argentine tango.  Tommy could go either way with the foxtrot – it’s his first “true” ballroom dance, so it will be interesting to see how he fares.  At the top of the leader board? I’m guessing Janel gets rave reviews for her samba, regardless of how good it actually is, because they need her to have a comeback week; I think Sadie will unfortunately be back to getting low balled after finally getting the scores she deserves last week. Ditto for Alfonso – I fully expect him to get nitpicked to death AGAIN, and if he & Witney are going the route I think they are with their salsa, they could be taking a big risk…so I’m bracing myself for the most harsh critique they’ve had yet.  Bethany? One big question mark…this will be her first “intense” dance, which could work for her or against her.

Heidi is currently traveling and has limited computer access, but she wanted to make sure this went up for you guys 🙂 She should be back later tonight with more intel…

ETA: I’m Baaaackkk! With Lea and Artem’s song – and no, it’s NOT the Iggy Azalea version. I also wanted to add that I’ve been rewatching the show and left something out of my numbers post that I wanted to mention. I REALLY appreciate and love how the dancers in the sky box are wearing little tribute costumes to one of their cohorts from time to time. This past week they were all wearing dreadlocks after Tommy’s dance, and this was after they were all imitating Tony after his audition tape was shown.  The previous week they all had beards and duck calls. They show a lot of camaraderie with each other that is fun to watch.  Which makes the judges and their behavior that much more dreadful.  ~Heidi

ETA2: Lots of complaining by Derek fans about his and Beth’s song. Chillax, people. Of all people, he can handle it. And if it doesn’t work? Well, it happens. Jonathan? Much harder to tell how that’s going to go. 🙂 Oh, and if you scrooooooll down, you’ll see Derek and Beth had a special visitor in their rehearsal. ~Heidi

ETA3: We think we know who sings Antonio’s song, but we’re not 100%. Be sure to tune into our Live blog tonight for some potential spoilers for next week. 🙂
