Dancing With The Stars Season 19 Week 8 Show Details, A Dance Off And More
Broadway World via ABC has released some show details for Dancing With The Stars Season 19 Week 8. Read below for more…
“Episode 1908” – “Dancing with the Stars” pays tribute to well-known twosomes, both real and fictional, during “dynamic duo” night MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The duo dance styles will include Jazz, Cha Cha, Contemporary and the Rumba. Additionally and for the first time this season, the couple with the highest overall score for the night will be granted immunity from elimination. The duos who do not receive immunity will then compete in a dance-off to earn extra judges’ points in an effort to increase their overall score. At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination.
The “Dynamic Duos” featured will be:
Alfonso Ribeiro & Witney Carson as Batman & Robin
Bethany Mota & Derek Hough as Lucy & Ricky Ricardo
Janel Parrish & Val Chmerkovskiy as Romeo & Juliet
Lea Thompson & Artem Chigvintsev as Bonnie & Clyde
Michael Waltrip & Emma Slater as Jane & Tarzan
Sadie Robertson & Mark Ballas as Adam & Eve
Tommy Chong & Peta Murgatroyd as Johnny & June Cash
LOL to Michael being Tarzan!!!
A little confused about the dance off to earn extra points to your score. Is it even beneficial to get immunity if you can win a dance off and earn more points? If you have immunity you don’t get to compete to add points to your score.
If the highest scoring couple after the dance duo has like a 36. And the 2nd-4th place has a 32 and win the dance off won’t they end up with a higher score at the end of the day heading into the voting for next week?
Or I have no idea what I am talking about which is always possible lol.
So is the immunity for THIS week’s elimination (based on last weeks scores and votes) or NEXT week’s elimination and their scores for this week don’t count and no voting required? Oh, never mind! I think I just answered my own question lol
I’m so glad they cleared Lucy and Ricky. Forget about Romeo and Juliet. I want to hear “honey, I’m homeee…”(that’s what I got when I YouTube I Love Lucy). Other characters are interesting too.
Hahaha. Michael as Tarzan? AWESOME!!!
Now my question is… Who is doing the Rumba? Everyone but Bethany seems to have revealed their dance and she can’t do the Rumba again sooo… Maybe it’s a mistake, who knows.
Dance Duels should be interesting… Wonder who’ll win that one. My money’s on Alfonso.
Does anyone else find it odd that Alfonso and Witney are dancing as a dual male dynamic duo, whereas the other couples are going the male and female route.
Makes me wonder if Batman and Robin theme was their choice?
So i’m confused. Does immunity and the face off points added to scores apply to Monday or the week after??
Oooh, I think Beth and Derek is doing the cha-cha. I’m excited for it — I think this could be very cute. Also, Sadie and Mark’s Adam and Eve could be really great!
Janel and Val doing Romeo and Juliet… if the showmance thing comes into play, I’m outta here. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt.
I think a lot of these dynamic duos fit tptb’s power plays. All the couples fit who everyone is/how they’re portrayed. There’s only one person that could be Johnny Cash and only one that could be Eve, etc. So I understand the choices even if I’m not a fan of all of them.
I hope Bethany and Derek are doing cha cha and not contemporary
I’m the least bit familiar with Lucy and Ricky…. I have to search them.
Add me to the confused list, I hope one of our experts will give us a better explanation. It was my understanding that 7 couples will be dancing, but only 6 will be alive as 1 couple will be eliminated as a result of last weeks score and voting.
What if the couple that should have gone home would win the exemption?
Please correct me if I am wrong but in kellie’s season she won and was exempt and the other couples danced against each other to add points for the next elimination. (Voting after the Monday dances).
Since teams have not been made this should not affect Derek’s perfect team dance in my mind.
Basically the couple who gets the highest score in the dynamic duo dances will not be eliminated later in the evening. Their scores and votes from last week count for nothing as they are automatically saved even if they had the lowest combined scores and votes. Basically it’s a nice easy way for TPTB to save anyone from a shock elimination in place of Michael or Tommy. So for example Janel and Val could be currently going home as it stands, but then proceed to get the highest score of the night in their dynamic duo dance, meaning they are automatically saved from elimination and the couple with the 2nd lowest votes from last week (most likely Michael or Tommy) go home instead.
I think it has to apply to the week after….but hell, they’ll do whatever they want in the end.
Maybe, Ammie, but Derek said he wanted to do Lucy and Ricky and that he had some good ideas for it. Said it right after last weeks show.
M8- I agree it could be a device to save someone who got the lowest votes last week.
But what about NEXT week (week 9)?
If Alfonso wins immunity with a score of say 36 and doesn’t have to do a dance off, and Bethany is 2nd place with 34 points, she wins her dance off, doesn’t she move AHEAD of Alfonso with the points that will be “added” on? That would make a big difference in the week 9 results and would seem to take away any advantage of winning immunity.
Will be interesting to see what TPTB have up their sleeve. On the surface it’s certainly eyebrow raising.
it should apply to the following week but i’m pretty sure it applies to this week coming up. this could be very interesting cause its getting to the point in the season where we usually see a shock elimination and janel’s name has been thrown out (not throwing shade, just saying). So say that Janel has an exceptionally good night and places first, she gets immunity and then you never know if it really was her night to go or not. Regardless of who may or may not be the shock elimination, if any for that matter. It would really make the most sense to apply this immunity to the following week but the producers will do as they please
In season 17 it was used for the same week. For example if Janel is supposed to be eliminated but gets highest score she will be immune. The next lowest will be eliminated. I remember Tom stressing we still had to vote for the immune person because it would not apply to next week.
@Ananya- The voting was different in Season 17 though. In that season it was last weeks votes with this weeks scores. Now it’s last weeks votes and last weeks scores. Right now elimination is based purely on last week and no matter how you did this week, the elimination is set in stone. But if you throw an immunity in it, it could save somebody (which doesn’t seem right to me). Or, if it saves somebody from next weeks elimination, than you wouldn’t have to vote for that person next week.
You’re right. It’s still confusing
Hope they explain it clearly. Immunity works well for 2 night format not one
I was hoping instead of immunity they would do a marathon
I hope they explain it as well because it seems that everybody is confused by how this will work out!
If the immunity is for Monday’s show, am I the only hanging out in the grassy knoll regarding Vajanel getting such a dramatic, romantic tragedy to dance that will have have CAI and Bruno flinging tens about?
Cause if she gets immunity I’ll skin a cat. Well, not really. I’ll just gently spank it’s butt.
@Susan2: If Janel is one of the bottom two for votes, I bet she will get immunity, so they can send Mike home before her.
You’re not alone, Susan. Interesting that this immunity thing comes up this week – if it’s for this week, I cry foul. Particularly if the person who gets it clearly doesn’t have the best dance.
Much like using last weeks scores and last weeks votes to determine who’s eliminated, it only makes sense to use the immunity for NEXT week – otherwise, it leaves it open to be skepticism.
The thing is TPTB could choose to use it for next week. Let’s say for example Tommy is going home as it stands on Monday but Lea finished 2nd bottom on votes and below Michael thus putting her in obvious danger for the week after. Then Lea tops the scoreboard earning immunity for next week and leaving Michael needing to beat one of Bethany Alfonso Derek Sadie or Janel to survive the next elimination (very unlikely bar maybe Janel).
End of the day TPTB can and will do what they want. If they can use the immunity to their advantage they will. We can only watch and see how it plays out.
We have to make sure no matter what happens we still vote as usual
Heidi, I am a bit confused. When you say immunity should apply for next week, are you saying that the couple winning it will not be eliminated in week 9? Wouldn’t that mean they would make the finals automatically, or am I wrong?
I think Artem was the one that mentioned their doing the rumba, not Lea & Emma/Michael are doing the Fox Trot.
Sadie and Mark as Adam and Eve….ok then. Kinda feel like Artem and Lea got one of the best pairings (Maria and Derek had a bonnie and Clyde kinda dance right?) and Tommy and Peta as Johnny and June Carter Cash is pretty awesome too. Considering that the immunity is a battle between Bethanny and Alfonso probably, I kinda hope Val keeps his “pick on someone your own size” attitide that he usually has. I always like that.
Sidenote, I am praying that Tommy and Peta don’t get eliminated. I know it’s probably between him and Michael but I put almost half my votes for him, which is not something I usually do with this show ever until the finale, becuase this man is just so much fun to watch.
Adam and Eve contemporary with Mark’s girlfriend singing sounds like 30s for Sadie. Though I can see ?Janel getting the high score to not compete in the dance off.
Mark has borrowed from sytycd before but I hope he doesn’t borrow from the Adam and Eve routine danced by Will and Jesaica. That was an amazing dance.
Yes, machane. If it’s applies this monday, someone already eliminated could be saved.
Thanks for the clarification, Heidi. Let’s hope one of the deserving couples gets immunity, then.
This is so confusing! I hate it when tptb is vague, but when are they not vague when it comes to things like this? I probably should just get used to tptb wanting to do whatever they want, but still…
Despite this tptb machinations, I am excited for the dynamic duo routines. Let’s just hope that when the couples add in production to their numbers (because of the theme, duh), Len wouldn’t throw a tantrum.
it’s things like these that just further confirm the involvement and interference of the producers. i’ve long believed that tptb had a hand in how things play out every season but this move is so blatantly obvious on their part, at least try to hide it better.
If the immunity applies to Monday, then what was the point of saving them this week? Makes no sense, especially if you made an effort to vote. Then again, if someone like Michael tops the leaderboard—highly unlikely, but hey—and he’s granted immunity, that means he can’t get voted out this week? Would the second lowest be eliminated? Now I’m just confusing myself. TPTB, show us the light!
And I agree that the advantage of earning extra points can give you a boost in the overall board so it’s not a complete disadvantage at all. Especially since Beth and Alfonso are tied for first place. The rest of the Stars need just to fall into place. But whatever, I’m excited anyway!
I’m looking forward to Derek and Bethany as Lucy and Ricky. I can see him starting off with the conga drum singing Babalu.
Reading everyone’s comments about immunity I’m more confused than ever. Wish they wouldn’t come up with these dopey plans.
Should be a fun show though!
machane (#28), this season has 11 weeks. There would be one more week in between Week 9 and the finale.
This is how I think I understand it…
So if the immunity applies for Week 9 (I hope), no voting needs to be done this Monday, 11/3 for the winning couple. The couple would not be eliminated at the end of the show on 11/10 (Week 9).
However, AFTER the show on 11/10 evening, we would then still vote for that couple to not be eliminated on 11/17 (Week 10). If the couple is not eliminated on 11/17, that would make them one of the 4 couples going into the finale on 11/24 (Week 11).
I’m really, really looking forward to Tommy and Peta’s Ring Of Fire paso. Johnny Cash was a true artist. He could put more regret and yearning singing a few words than most singers could do in their entire careers. It’s also a great duo for T&P to portray.
Other duos I’m excited about are Beth and Derek’s and Sadie and Mark’s. I wonder if Derek will go full Ricky and wear a black wig and one of those 50’s boxy suits that he always wore on the show.
I hope Mark will choreograph an intimate, stripped down Adam and Eve after the critism he got for last time. Something slow, sustained and beautiful would look lovely on Sadie. He’s doing such a fantastic job with her.
Am really looking forward to Alfonso and Witney–it will be nice to see a their comedic side on the dance floor. Plus, I can’t wait to see them in their dynamic duo get up! I am expecting a perfect cha cha from them!
The only couple I care about is Whitney and Alfonso I want them to get immunity but I also want them to get extra points.
My thoughts on the pairings:
Alfonso Ribeiro & Witney Carson as Batman & Robin–This will be cute! I can’t wait to see some fun from them.
Bethany Mota & Derek Hough as Lucy & Ricky Ricardo–does Bethany even know who Lucy is? LOL. I have no doubt in my mind that, as always, Derek will find a way to make whatever work.
Janel Parrish & Val Chmerkovskiy as Romeo & Juliet–I hear this is a contemporary. Should be a good dance. Looking forward to seeing it.
Lea Thompson & Artem Chigvintsev as Bonnie & Clyde–This should be good as well. Interested to see how Artem can pull off this duo with the style.
Michael Waltrip & Emma Slater as Jane & Tarzan–Totally not looking forward to this. LOL. Getting so sick of Michael. At this point in the season he should be improving and he’s not. It’s his time to go.
Sadie Robertson & Mark Ballas as Adam & Eve–Figures that this would be Sadie’s pair. However their style is a contemporary and with this pair it will be interesting to see how Mark makes it age appropriate.
Tommy Chong & Peta Murgatroyd as Johnny & June Cash–Will be amazing. Only Tommy can pull this off! Hope his stamina holds out.
As far as this dance off immunity thing. I am with everyone else that the only way it would work is if the immunity is for next week. What if (God forbid) the person who was voted off this week ended up with immunity (i.e. if it was Michael or Tommy). That would be a reason to “call foul”. If TPTB is smart they will have it be for next week. But again, they will do whatever the heck they want whenever they want to.
Should be an interesting night. My predictions on who goes home: Michael first, Tommy second. If neither of those then of the girls I would say Sadie.
No Disney week this year which is a shame bc that was the best idea to come out of last season
#43 I wouldn’t worry too much about Mark making the Adam and Eve dance appropriate. He’s done a wonderful job with that so far.
being cast out of the Garden of Eden, A&E were more like innocent children so I suspect Mark will go that route. Also I seriously doubt he’ll dress Sadie to look nude. A simple white or blush toned leotard and skirt would be appropriate.
Looking forward to Alfonso and Witney too! There’s no reason why Robin can’t be a girl. I mean I know it’s not that way in the Batman canon, but this is DWTS.
Some of my sentence got chopped. What I meant to say was, before being cast out of the Garden Of Eden. Halloween gremlins!
#jrgoldengirl I totally agree that Michael can be difficult to watch sometimes. When I saw Emma’s instagram video I started to realize the enormous positive influence this has been in Michael’s life, the expressive freedom he seems to have found. With apologies to mods here’s the link in case you haven’t seen it. http://instagram.com/p/uzbpdpBdHf/ This, of course, has Emma written all over it. I’m thrilled for Michael that he got to be on the winning Team Itsy Bitsy, that he had a chance to really work and interact with Derek; the affection between those two is clear. I don’t particularly expect Michael to get much better, but this experience is sending him back out into the world a happier person who will clearly pay that forward every chance he gets. For me, it’s a different way to appreciate him. Still can’t dance, but the energy he contributes to the world is really priceless.
#Susan and #Susan2 you both bring up valid points. I agree that Michael’s experience on the show is making him a happier person. I know that Mark will have no problem making it age appropriate. That costume idea seemed really nice.
#Jordan I too wish there was Disney week! I loved that. If they don’t do that, the other thing I wish they would bring back is the trios. This gives eliminated pros or troupe members another chance to come back on the show.
Can’t wait to see what happens this week.
This is just an interesting fact that I would like to point out. The immunity challenge has only happened twice before (season 16&17) and the winners of the challenge (Kellie&Amber) both won their seasons, respectively. So, does that mean that whoever wins could possibly be the winner in the end??…Just something to think about
Yeah, Mary, I pointed this out in another post. As I also pointed out, they’ve done immunity sorts of things before to save a particular contestant as well – and it didn’t work. Chelsea Kane’s Winner Take All Cha Cha. They didn’t use the words immunity, but giving someone *15* extra points amounts to the same thing. There was a lot of outrage around that, so I think they watered it down to a much more conservative approach. I also think the judges may give it to who they *think* might win (Lea), but they could certainly end up being wrong.
