Derek Hough’s Halloween Blog – With an Immunity Explanation
Well, sort of. Plus, he and Beth are doing Salsa. From TV Guide – click the link to read his entire blog:
Salsa’s also a hard dance because there are so many steps. You have to be careful. You can do the club style, but the problem with that is you can look sloppy with a non-dancer. It has to be more structured. I also really want to interject some fun and humor. And yes, we’ve been working on our Lucy and Ricky impressions all week. She goes, “Oh, Ricky!” And I’m like, “Lucy! You got some ‘splaining to do!” I think my Ricky is pretty good if I do say so myself!
The first place team will be immune from elimination this week and everyone else will have to do the dance-off. If you’re in second place, you chose who you want to dance against and they chose the dance style. The options are cha-cha, jive and rumba. Not gonna lie, we haven’t prepared for that yet! We’re going to start later today. It’s more work, but it’s all good.
Always enjoy his blogs.
I’m happy they have Salsa, especially as the dynamic duo of Lucy&Ricki & it allows them to be more competitive too 🙂
Sounds like like its going to be both technical & fun!!
Derek’s stepping up the choreography & hoping Bethany nails it too! – Looking forward to this routine.
Hope to hear their impressions of Lucy & Ricky 🙂
And I thought they stepped up the choreo last week. Cool…I can’t wait. Bring it on.
Not gonna lie… Kinda worried about Bethany doing the Salsa. I’m just worried she won’t be able to get loose and get those hips moving. Then again, I was worried about her doing the Paso Doble and then she delivered an amazing one.
I am still excited to see them as Lucy and Ricky though. Gonna be so fun!
In other words, the judges found a way to get rid of a contestant.
So it’s the same immunity thing as Season 17 pretty much? I would say 16, but considering 16 was two nights a week…
More likely, save someone that might not otherwise be safe. We’ll have to wait and see, Misty.
So if say Vajanel gets way over scored, and everyone else gets underscored so that they get immunity ….. I would say somebody got some splaining to do. lol
Exactly, PJ.
So agree PJ. Thought the same thing that they are figuring a way to save Val and Janel.
I always enjoy reading Derek’s blogs. He’s such a positive and good person. He said he could go to a Halloween Party or Trick or Treat with his cousins; but, instead he was going to the Children’s Hospital. What a “sweetheart” this young man is and love his humble heart.
So looking forward to seeing “Lucy” and “Ricky” Salsa it up out on the dance floor Monday!!
I think they will use the immunity to save either Janel or Lea this week. I think they are the only two who might need ‘saving’ who could also conceivably ‘win’ immunity. Tommy and Michael aren’t going to outscore any of the others, and I can’t imagine Alfonzo, Sadie or Bethany not getting the votes to be safe this week.
Janel has contemporary and Lea has jazz. You can get away with a lot in those styles. As long as they bring it, and don’t massively screw it up, the judges can easily give either of them straight 10’s. Then they can call the other couples out on minor details as justification for giving them a random 9.
If one of those two get immunity it will lead me to believe that they are not getting enough votes and they will be gone the following week. Unless the show breaks out another gimmick like the ‘dance off’ between the bottom two and the judges get to choose who stays. That would be negating the power of the fan vote two weeks in a row. Probably not the best idea.
I think your spot on Finlay. I’ll be shocked if Janel, Sadie or Lea don’t win the immunity. I say Sadie because she could have ended up bottom after her scores from last week. It just makes no sense to have someone like Bethany or Alfonso be immune from the nights elimination. I’m convinced one of the above ladies have got the lowest amount of votes from last week.
While I absolutely agree with Finlay, I don’t think Sadie is in the “danger” group. Or she is and they aren’t remotely interested in saving her. If they were, she wouldn’t have been so horribly underscored to begin with.
Yeah it’s strikingly obvious to me that Lea or Janel would benefit the most from an immunity. We’ll see if it plays out that way.
I completely agree with Finley. I think that with some of the more ‘free’ dance styles Janel, Lea and Sadie will be able to capture their dynamic duos better. I think Sadie is definitely safe, so I’m guessing either Janel or Lea will be get immunity. I’m also really happy to hear that Derek is stepping up the choreo and intricacy. I love to see Beth’s improvement every single week, and honestly think she’s the most improved in the competition. I’m so proud of her and it makes me so happy watching her dance every week.
I wonder… If you came second and had to pick the couple to dance off, wouldn’t you pick someone like Michael whose one of the weaker dances on this comp? Or would you pick the couple who you think would pick the dance you were the best at? Like zendaya picked Jacoby in season 16 because she knew Jacoby would pick jive, which she was good at.
If (for arguments’ sake) Bethany/Derek and Sadie/Mark (or any combination of people for that matter) ended up getting a perfect score for their respective Dynamic Duo dances, who would get the immunity?
(Sorry if this has been asked/answered already. I couldn’t find it anywhere)
After Derek’s explanation I see this as a way to eliminate either tommy or Michael insuring a top 5 semi final. Guessing the 3 couples that dance against each other that the winners will get a bonus, such as 3 pts to their score. That would widen the gap that the low celeb would have to cover. Fixing the winner would be much harder. My question the exact rules for who picks first of the six couples, will it be high score of the night, with cumulative score as a tie break?
The dance order will be very interesting, would not want to be first
If it’s tie then they look at cumulative scores. I wonder what will happen if both Alfonso and Bethany get perfect scores. They do have the same cumulative score.
I noticed janel’s frame is not so good, they sure are buffering her by not giving her ballroom.
I’m glad Beth& Derek has salsa, it’s a chance to show her versatility
I doubt the judges will give out more than one perfect score for that very reason, Sophie.
