PureDWTS Season 19, The Finale – Power Rankings

ZOMG guise Janel r hurt! Janel didnt getz enuf rehursul tyme! O the humanatee!!! Seriously, felt like the lolcat sympathy hour for awhile there, with everyone reacting with such horror at poor Janel and her rib injury and lack of rehearsal time.  Nevermind the fact that Alfonso has been injured FOR WEEKS, or that all of the contestants this season have outside commitments.  I took Tavis to task almost 2 months ago for complaining about not having enough rehearsal time – you best believe I’m an equal-opportunity chastiser, and I’m gonna take Janel to task for it too.  You don’t get to sign up for DWTS, knowing you have another commitment, and then complain about how little rehearsal time you have.  Bethany & Derek made do with 7 hours for one dance. Suck it up, buttercup.

All that aside – tonight was a pretty strong night for just about every dance.  Probably the strongest freestyle round, across the board, that we’ve seen in awhile, with everyone committing 100% to their dances.  I don’t think anyone struggled with showmanship.  Judges’ choice round could have been a bit better, but overall I think  everyone did ok.  Tomorrow night should be interesting, though – with only 3 points separating the leader (Alfonso) from the third place (Janel), they really are kinda throwing it to the fans to figure out – and while I’m pretty sure I know how things will shake out, the fact that they did a real bottom 2 tonight will probably whip some fans into a voting frenzy.  How convenient.

As for Bethany – she should’ve stayed.  Even though she fumbled a bit on her jive (dumb bed), I thought her freestyle was spot-on and was her strongest dance yet. Sorry to see her go – she seemed to have finally blossomed. But I think she and Derek went out on a high note, and can take pride in what a fantastic job they did this season. 🙂 Read more..

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

DWTS Season 19 The FINALE – Night 1!! Let’s discuss tonight’s show! (Spoilers)

Once again, comment to your hearts contents, as long as you remember the show night rules. Also, for tonight, I’ve turned on comment moderation which means your post won’t show up immediately. At the end of the season we always seem to have an influx of trouble makers. Even MORE important that you don’t hit refresh constantly.

  1. Our server gets totally hosed when people sit at their computer and click “refresh” constantly. Post a comment, then walk away for five minutes so that others have a chance…and so that Courtney and I can actually post on the site. 🙂
  2. THIS SITE IS NOT TWITTER. Do not post like you are on twitter. You get one warning and then I put you in time out. 🙂 We need context and content. Believe it or not there are a lot of people who don’t watch the east coast feed of the show, so they don’t know what the hell you’re talking about when you post a comment that says, “Boy, that sucked.”  If you want to say “____ and ____’s dance was not good at all, crappy choreo” that’s fine. That would be context. It is good. 😀  Remember, if you post five one liners in five minutes, you’ve broken rule number 1. 😉

Power rankings will be coming up later tonight and the final “Dancing by the Numbers” should go up around noon eastern time tomorrow. Just FYI.

Artem, you ain’t all that. Love how the camera cut away before he could get his shirt all the way off. 🙂

And of course, production completely blows the start to Bethany’s dance, throwing her off. Jaysus people this is the finale. WTF is wrong with you?? Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Janel Parrish Is Hopeful She And Valentin Chmerkovskiy Will Win Dancing With The Stars

Janel Parrish tells People that her goal now is to win Dancing With The Stars. What’s more, she is “hopeful” that she and Val Chmerkovskiy will win….

I’m very happy with the dance the judges picked for us. It’s one of my favorite dances that we’ve done, and one that stayed a little bit under-the-radar just because we didn’t get great marks for it. I’m excited to bring it back and hopefully do it better than I did the first time.

For our freestyle, we’re going to go with what we think our strengths are, which is our chemistry and what we bring to dancing when we’re dancing together. We’re going to keep it intimate, we’re going to keep it beautiful, we’re going to dance the hell out of it and go out with a bang.

I’ve always thought and I still think Alfonso Ribeiro is probably the one to beat, but I do think that everybody that is left in the competition is a very strong competitor. Everybody has worked so hard, and everybody wants it just as bad as the next person, so it could really be anybody’s game. I’m just really grateful to still be a part of it.

I actually feel less pressure going into this week because it is the finale and I’m so proud of all the work I’ve done to make it this far. Now at this point I think any of us can win. I just want to enjoy my last dance on that stage with Val, and enjoy that last moment. I know that I did everything I could possibly do, and no matter what, I got what I wanted. I wanted to enjoy the journey all the way to the end and that’s what I’ve done, so I’m going to be happy with the outcome whatever it is, but obviously I am hopeful that we will win!

DWTS19 Carrie Ann Inaba Sizes Up The Competition Going Into The Finale

Well, it’s finally the day we’ve all been waiting for!! Who’s ready for a little dancing? For starters, head to TV Guide as Dancing With The Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba sizes up all of the finalists and describes what it will take to win. It’s very much like her Parade blog last week, but, with more detail.

“This to me is by far the closest competition we have had in a long time,” veteran judge Carrie Ann Inaba tells TVGuide.com. “I’m really interested to see how it’s all going to play out. … At this stage, it could be any of them. It’s going to be great.”

The unpredictability of this season’s finale may be due in part to the show’s polarizing new casting philosophy — tapping contestants like Bethany Mota and Sadie Robertson, who are popular with the younger set, have a huge social media presence, and are influential enough to get fans to watch the show.

“At first on paper, I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t too thrilled [with the cast] because I didn’t know a lot of the names,” Inaba admits, echoing the sentiments of the show’s primary fan base. “Obviously we all know Tommy Chong, we all know Alfonso [Ribeiro]. But other than that, there weren’t that many names that I actually knew. So I was curious. But I was happily surprised. … We’ve brought in a younger demo and I think it has changed up the voting a little. In the past, we had Sabrina Bryan and we had Cody Linley, and they had huge social media followers too, but [the fans] weren’t watching the show. They didn’t vote. This year, these kids have followings that are voting.”
