Private Members Area – DWTS Season 19 Finale Discussion
Tonight was the finale of Dancing with the Stars Season 19. If you’re not a Pure DWTS Insider yet, you can do so here. If you are, then I look forward to the discussion in the comments.
What did you think of the finale? How about the winner? What about all the tears?
Also, some people started this in the last thread, but a big shout out to the Pure DWTS angels who do such an amazing job creating content for the site. They’re really amazing at what they do and considering we all have day jobs which keep us busy, that makes it even harder.
Let us know what else you think we should do in the off season. Most of us take a bit of a break after the DWTS Finale, but if you have ideas let me know and we’ll see what we can do. Although, I have to admit that this break is much better because of the holidays than the summer break which seems to drag on forever.
It was ok. I already knew from week one who was going to win so no surprise. I was glad that Val/Janel were third and that Mark/Sadie were second. The look on Val’s face was worth watching. Val definitely needs to learn how to lose with grace and be humble like Derek. Val’s lack of professionalism when he looses is such a disgrace and gives a bad image of the pros. It is about the celebrity and not the pro…Anyway done with my rant. Great job mods for running this site you are all fantastic and thank you for allowing us to voice our opinions. Have a safe/happy Thanksgiving…..
I’ve not watched the final show yet but congrats Alfonso the best dancer won for me throughout the season. Well done Witney as well for doing what that Chelsie Hightower couldn’t. She had a lot of pressure considering most expected Alfonso to be there at the end and she didn’t let him down. Does that make her the 1st sytcd winner of DWTS? Here’s to the season end and thanks to all the mods for the updates. Have a great Christmas and a happy new year everyone and maybe I’ll speak to y’all again in the spring 😉
The finale is one of my favorite nights to watch. Almost all previous couples get to dance and it is joyful to watch.. The BONUS is I don’t have to listen to the judges say mean things to the couple dancing. There is a way to give critique on how to improve or what to work on in a constructive kind way….. BUT I guess that makes “boring” TV. I loved having TWITCH SHOW UP and dance a TRIO!!!!
The road to the finals would have been so much better if they would have made it all NEW content.
I think finals must be a HUGE emotional evening for the Pros and Celebrities. Hopeful that you will win… Wanting it so much…. Disappointed you lost….. Happy for your friend that they won……sad the season is over….happy you get s break…. Etc.
In the off season…..
I love the polls you create
I enjoy the who do you want to see next season
Maybe add updates from those that attend the DWTS tour
OR just take a break and relax…. You ALL HAVE DONE A FANTASTIC job.
Thank you!!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Yes thanks all for the hard work and gossip and helping distract me from work and school, haha. Now always comes a big lull: no DWTS, no baseball, school ends for me in a few weeks, no Game of Thrones – and the Bears suck. Guess I’ll have to try and be productive during this off-season!
Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for everything, everyone.
ZG, thanks. We hope to do all of those things you listed and soon.
Fig, thanks too and omg to what you said on the Bears. This is my Hubby’s favorite football team. I know when the cussing begins when he’s watching them on TV that things are not going well for them and this year is really bad. lol
Ahh, my sympathies for you and your husband, Vogue, haha! My boyfriend is a Titans fan and they are having an even worse year – so we just watch the rest of the teams on the NFL package whenever one of ours might induce swearing, lol. I will say that baseball spring training can’t come too soon. Thankfully we’re Spurs and Bulls fans too so there’s that. 🙂
Now that DWTS is over at least I still have football for a while. Thankfully I’m at Patriots fan so hopefully we’ll be going for quite a bit longer. (Yes, I realize that everybody in the country hates us except for ourselves haha)
As much as I get upset once in a while. I really do love the show and always miss my Monday night programming. Mondays start to suck after the finale.
I think Whitney is the first SYTYCD alum to win. Lacey came close as well, but I think 3rd was the highest she ever did.
At least we do have Football. I’m a dolphins fan personally, so I’m still suffering from their ongoing inconsistency. One week I think they can win it all and then the next week I think they’re sharing space with the Raiders. So frustrating, but I still love me some Football.
I just watch all the games since we have the package, which takes the hurt off the Bears being so bad. I do hope for the best for the Dolphins (except when they play the Bears, of course) and there’s a number of other teams that are fun to watch. Now the Patriots…yeah, it’s so easy to root against them, even though Brady is fantastic and Bilicheck is a genius, I do usually have some schaudenfraude when they lose, haha. Sorry!
As for SYTYCD – I think Lacey came in 2nd with Kyle and 3rd with Lance. Although her technique was a bit sloppy in ballroom, I really loved a lot of her numbers. I also thought Chelsie was a much better dancer than Lacey and choreographed some really cute numbers – I loved her with Romeo and Roshon – it’s a shame that the fans couldn’t get behind these guys. I think a lot of younger male – and many female – celebs have that issue unless you have a master showman and clown like Kyle. Witney also couldn’t take Cody far and he was arguably more popular than Romeo and Roshon. Alfonso came in with a huge, in-demo fanbase and had the skills to back it up – in my opinion one of the bigger “fan base meets talent” ringers of the show’s history. But of course, you gotta back it up with great performances and pushing his abilities, and Witney did great with it.
LOL Fig I was born in Chicago so I guess technically although I don’t follow American Football that much I should support the Bears. Who’d have thought we could disagree on DWTS matters but follow the same American Football team lol.
I had a very happy little 3 year old this morning when I told her we got a text message that the pretty little blonde girl won the dance show last night!!! Her Poppy told her maybe we would take her to the live show when they hit Pa. if she was all better. I later mentioned to him the price of the tickets and he asked if they make a DVD! LOL
Honestly I don’t care if she is better and her Mom would ok it I’ll sell my husband to buy them.
I will watch everything when she comes home. I only allow her to watch certain dancers. When I am doing her leg therapy at home we watch Sadie and Derek’s Charleston. I dream about it in my sleep. She also likes the Carlton. I will say this season has been a welcomed distraction at times. Also the Dr. said her baby sister could come today for a visit so my daughter brought the new baby and we were all happy to see her.
Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes yesterday.
Honestly Kaitlyn the Eagle Nation doesn’t hate the Patriot’s even though they ground us into dust a few weeks ago. Now Dallas that’s another story!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone and safe travels. It has been snowing here most of the day.
That’s right. I forgot about Kyle. Thanks for the correction.
I didn’t mention the Patriots since I was being nice to Kaitlyn 😉
M8 I knew you were alright in some way 😉 Just kidding! You can love Artem and I can love Mark – but we both agree that Emma is a doll. Plus – god forbid – if for some reason my boyfriend and I broke up, I’d probably go seek the comfort of some hot British guys the first chance I got.
A few post-finale, pre-Thanksgiving tidbits…:-)
*Apparently Rob Wade gave Cheryl a really nice send-off speech at the wrap party last night – and at the end, he went to hand her a nic bouquet of flowers, then said “Who am I kidding? You don’t want flowers, you’d rather have booze!” and he tossed the bouquet over a balcony and handed her a bottle of vodka instead 🙂 But the send-off at the party kinda makes me think Cheryl’s departure has a sense of finality – more of a “she’s gone an she isn’t coming back as a pro EVER” than a “she’s just taking a little break”. 🙁
*Also notable about the wrap party? Joey Fatone sang “Bye, Bye, Bye”. 😛 Oh, Fat One…
*Now as for Mark – something Deep Throat said kinda makes me wonder if his (maybe) decision not to return next season was a knee-jerk reaction…he apparently said he wanted to quit a few weeks ago because he didn’t like the way he & Sadie’s rehearsal packages were coming out. Said they made them seems far more negative than they really were. So who knows – maybe it was something Mark just said in the heat of frustrating moment, and perhaps not set in stone.
*No sign of Maks at the wrap party, despite some fans saying that he was in the studio audience or was hanging out backstage or what have you. I have no reason to believe he was anywhere but at home, watching like the rest of us. Who WAS there: Joey (obvi), Randy & his gf (who I’m a big fan of now, since she retweeted me last night 🙂 ), Karina, Peta, Henry, Cheryl, Tommy & his wife, Jonathan, Allison & Twitch, Artem, Lea, Shawn Johnson, & Danicanotadancer…who (bless her heart) apparently has yet to realize that her season ended over 6 months ago 😛
To all our American readers – have a safe and happy Thanksgiving! To everyone else – have a great weekend 🙂
Also – Go Colts 🙂 Indy gal over here!
Love the tidbits, Court. Thanks so much and I hope Mark comes back. He made me a fan this past season. Him and Sadie were so cute. Speaking of, I don’t know how true this is…but, Shirley posted this at her FB about the voting turnout last night with Sadie and Mark:
“I heard they lost by 0 .1 per cent of the vote.
Dial idol had them way out in front. Came down to a few hundred votes I heard. Actually I heard a lot more. Mmmmm”
Yeah, Fig, but Cody wasn’t as “involved” with the show as Alfonso was – obviously, if you have a celeb who wants to kill it and do well, YOU are going to do well. Hell, wanting to work hard is more than half the battle.
I just LOVE Witney. Love her. I loved her when she was on SYTYCD and I’m so happy that she’s doing well and confirming my suspicious that she could be the next Julianne. Derek has said more than once that the pressure is higher and you have to work harder, when you have someone who is a ringer. The expectations are higher. Well….they are for HIM. Not sure that’s true for every pro. 🙂
Thanks for the Tidbits. 🙂 It’s been a great season. I, like Courtney, Love, Love, Love, Alfonso. I think this has become my favorite season of DWTS ever. Witney and Alfonso were a match made in heaven.
A little bit off-topic but since you mentioned Shawn Johnson. I believe I read that Shawn will be part of the new cast of Celebrity Apprentice with Donald Trump. Did anyone else read that?
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
Awww…come on, Mark. Take your brother and move on to better things with Cheryl. I love all three of them (much of the time, in the case of Mark and Cheryl), but they can afford to leave and do something else.
Do I need to tweet Shirley a link to my “Why Dialidol doesn’t work for DWTS” post? 😛
Yes, I think you do. Even a Derek fan who should know better was retweeting links to DialIdol last night. Come on people.
So Mark could potentially be leaving next season? Just because I don’t like him doesn’t mean the show won’t miss him and his commitment & choreography massively. Cheryl and Mark with their longevity would be huge losses to the show. Imagine if Derek decides not to return as well?? I don’t think I could handle the Val Chermerkovsky show that would potentially take place next season. I would hope considering Mark is doing the DWTS tour means he’s still committed to the show.
I’ll miss Cheryl, she’s part of the DWTS furniture and I feel like she’s been underused this season yet still showed signs of her brilliance when she had the chance. Alfonso’s Flamenco was one of my favourite routines in the whole season. I really respect her as well for the crap she’s had to put up with in her past. If Jenna Johnson gets the expected promotion, she has a hell of a lot to live up to.
Yep Fig Emma is the BEST 😀 although she’s slowly breaking my heart seeing her on screen with Sasha more and more. Her home town is like a 1 hour train journey away from me, so I must restrain myself from going to give her a piece of my mind if she comes home for Christmas. :p
@Vogue – Don’t know how Shirley would know anything about the voting numbers. But hasn’t Tom been known to announce it when the voting numbers were that close? I think he did it with Shawn and Gilles.
There are still lots of pros to love: Karina, Peta, Emma, Whitney, Tony, Val, Keo, etc. It’s not like they’d be without returning pros if Cheryl, Mark and Derek left. Plus, what if they brought back Anna T? I’d love that.
If anyone knows, curious about why it took 10 years for Alfonso to get on the show.
@Suzy – If I had to guess (as harsh as this is going to sound), I’d say it was because they weren’t desperate enough 10 years ago – once the first season was such a success, they were able to command much bigger, more currently-relevant names. They had NFL players, Olympians, singers, TV actors, etc. knocking down THEIR door to be on this wildly popular new show – they were above celebs like Alfonso, Danica, Liz Berkeley, & Ralph Macchio that had once been popular, but had kind of faded from public view in recent years. Remember: for a long time, DWTS was in pursuit of the “A-list celebrity” – which I don’t think they ever got. And in the past few seasons, it’s gotten harder to cast DWTS – there’s a bit of a stigma attached to doing the show, and I think some of the humiliation tactics of the judges’ have made it far less appealing for a lot of celebs to do the show. So they’re having to lower their standards a bit – maybe grabbing stars that were once relevant awhile back, but still stick out in viewers minds from their younger years. I think it’s actually rather telling that, during Rob Wade’s first season at the helm of DWTS, they picked 2 stars (Alfonso & Antonio) that have had long-running fan campaigns going to get them on the show. I think they’re actually starting to listen to some of the campaigning going on, and hoping that the campaigning that they’re seeing is an indicator of potential viewership if they cast a certain person. And I think Alfonso was really a success for DWTS – he was a brilliant entertainer and gave viewers a sense of nostalgia. So I guess I’m hoping that they start to broaden their horizons a bit more – paying a bit more attention to fan campaigns and not writing off every single celeb that isn’t currently a household name. I think the last few seasons have shown a casting pattern of early 90s popular television – they’ve hit on Fresh Prince, Full House, The Wonder Years, and Saved by the Bell in just the last 3 seasons, and all of those picks lasted until at least the semifinals. Maybe it’s time to hit up another popular show from that era…maybe grab Suzanne Somers or Patrick Duffy from Step by Step? Lacey Chabert from Party of Five? Rhea Perlman from Cheers?
I do wish they would go outside the ABC family, though. Too much fishing in their own pond. When they cast Amber I had hope…only to see that she’s an anomaly. There are three other networks, dudes.
Whatever the reasons I think it was meant to be. I think Alfonso and Witney were meant to be together, beit 1 yr or 10 yr.
I haven’t seen anything definitive from the producers on why it took 10 years, so it’s all speculation. I think Court is right on about “lowering the standard” as far as what they’re looking for. Although, I think that DWTS was a little afraid of past dance experience with Alfonso as well. Sure, some of the past stars have had it too, but a star that’s name hadn’t been in the spotlight together with the “too much dance experience” together was likely the reason he never made the cut previously.
A number of people have hit our contact form complaining about his dance experience. So, there is some legitimate reason for concern, but I don’t think there should be concern. It makes for a great show. It would be another thing if they cast one of the pros (say Julianne) as a Star (music and movies). Can you imagine the outrage? But can you also imagine the performances?
One of these days the pros are going to have their own show. I don’t know if it’s going to be a battle format or something. It just needs to happen. It would be amazing to watch just the pros in their element each week.
Mya had FAR more dance experience than Alfonso, and Meryl and Kristi were far bigger fanbase ringers. And Alfonso can’t touch Donny Osmond in terms of the combo. I think there are some bitter folks hitting the contact page. 🙂
Thanks Courtney. Life has taught me that just because things don’t look right to you doesn’t mean that they aren’t perfect just the way they are. Alfonso’s 10 year wait would appear to be an application of this principle.
10 years just seems like an overexaggeration, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more 3 years and other commitments had prevented him from taking part until now. Like for example he was on a UK reality show (I’m a Celebrity Get me out of here) this time last year which would have stopped him from doing season 17.
Someone that’s not been mentioned on the thread regarding pros etc is Allison. With Cheryl gone I consider her the most alpha female American so to speak of the pros. Witney is the golden girl atm which is rightly so considering she won. But I really think if Allison returns she’ll get a contender and it’ll be her chance to step into that void left by Cheryl. I really see next season as massive for her as a pro should she be brought back.
I think Allison will do well, but I don’t think she really takes the place of Cheryl. I think Allison fills more of the shoes of Chelsie Hightower or someone more fun like that. Which makes me wonder if Chelsie has a chance to be back on the show with Allison and Whitney on the show already. Plus, if the troop girls get their chance, then that will be a lot of bubbly personalities from young girls. None of them fit the Cheryl role well in my opinion. I’m sad they can’t go Edyta since she was more like Cheryl.
Hey Insiders, do you have questions for Sharna Burgess for a new interview? If so, see this post(link below). We’d like to get them sent to her in a day or so since she’s got a lot on her schedule coming up. So, try and get your questions in as soon as you can if possible. Thanks so much xx:
