Emma Slater And Valentin Chmerkovskiy Talk On The New Season Of Dancing With The Stars
Just a couple of fun mentions to start our Monday! First, Emma Slater chatted about the new season of Dancing With The Stars in a Q & A at one of the Dancing With The Stars Live shows. Below is a report from the VC Post. Emma mentions how the new season will be “the biggest and most impressive season of Dancing With The Stars ever”. Thanks to Kristyn Burtt for this find…
During the preview of DWTS tour date at the Saenger Theater with Witney Carson and Alfonso Ribeiro in New Orleans, pro Emma Slater dropped some intel for the upcoming anniversary series.
Slater was asked by a reporter if she’s returning amid rumors spreading online about which of the pros may or may not be returning.
She answered the question indirectly by saying, “Actually, we will find that out very shortly and we can’t wait to tell you guys, and give you some information. But what we can tell you is that Season 20 is going to be the biggest and most impressive season of Dancing With The Stars ever. So you have to watch it. It’s going to be huge. There’s going to be initiative.”
Also, Val Chmerkovskiy talked on the new season at one of the Q & A’s. He mentions a return of the Tuesday night shows. What do you think? Thanks to DWTSgossip for this heads up…
Exciting! Bring on this new season!! And I’m game for them bringing back Tuesday shows as long as we see more pro numbers and Macy’s Stars Of Dance with Derek at the helm.
I hope Emma finally gets a partner that’s under 50 years old. How about giving her an athlete this season? I think it’s time for either scenario to happen.
I agree Sandy, while I loved her with Bill Engvall, I hate seeing her get stuck in some niche they seem to be putting her in. She deserves the chance to see how well she can make a talented/fit partner shine imo. I don’t think a talented partner would be wasted on her, I know that can sometimes be an issue, I can think of a male pro example. We know Karina can take a talented partner pretty far even when she’s being Ralphed/Apoloed, and Sharna can even when she’s being Ralphed…and Witney has proven she can, as has Kym, Peta, Cheryl…give Emma her chance! But I’d rather her be on with “her type” than not on at all. Also, one of the reasons I think so highly of her is that she embraces whoever she gets and really really enjoys them, the process, and the exposure to their lives outside/before dwts.
Emma/Bill may well be my favorite pair ever (maybe… have to think on it). But agreed that I’d like to see her with someone who has the body to be a contender (as opposed to just a feel-good story, though I adore those, too!). I also think it’s time for Val to have a more challenging partner, since he’s had five great dancers in a row.
Looks like Val has something to say about DWTS blogs being biased toward Derek on his twitter. I assume he means this one but I have never found this place to be biased. While I love Derek’s style and choreography and will miss him on the show this season, I think most people on here acknowledge Val’s talent but are aware he has not been challenged with his partners. Anyway, I guess he has been spending time checking out what people are saying about him.
Thing is – Emma did so well with both Bill and Michael (in that they were entertaining/fun/well liked couples) that she may well end up in those types of partnerships most of the time. People LIKED her so much with those guys, and she did well with them – why mess with success?? Not that I agree with that, but I can see why they might think that.
Val will just have to deal with the fact that not everyone kisses his ass all the time. 🙂 Must be a shock to the system. Besides, I thought he and his brother were all about being “real” – no one can accuse us of not being real. We have opinions, we share them – that’s what blogs do. As for bias – EVERYONE has one. Some of us just own it. Others try to pretend they are above it all. We ARE critical of lots of things – but only a child calls all criticism “hate”.
The only time I actually see anything Val writes is when his fans retweet him into my DWTS searches. Otherwise, I’m not interested in what he has to say, so I don’t read his tweets. Simple enough solution, eh? He should try it. 😉 As should his fans who claim they don’t read us anymore and no one does – yet our readership was at an all time high last season. Weird, eh? 😀 They’re just mad because we don’t allow them to express themselves in a hateful, nasty way. Yet they claim we’re haters? The little dears do project, now, don’t they? 😉
:::waves::: Thanks for reading, kids.
PH, it is just so weird that he even has to tweet something like that. The season hasn’t started and he is doing stuff that polarizes people. He really is his own worst enemy unfortunately. He has a lot of talent but no filter for appropriate behaviour. I think of another pro that sets himself up like that.
He is his own worst enemy – true. But think about it. This is a game he and Maks (and sometimes Mark) play. What is the quickest way to get a bunch of people to reinforce how you feel about a particular subject?? Why, you whine about it on twitter. Then you get all your little fans rushing to your defense and telling you how wonderful you are. It’s a sign of insecurity. If he really didn’t care, he would read it (or better still, not read it at all), shrug and go “ah whatever”.
Another path is a bit of self examination to see if anything that is being said might have some truth. If, after said self examination, you decide all of us are full of crap, go on your merry way and think no more about it. But posting on twitter is very revealing.
You lot at Pure should be proud. Pissed off Val Chmerkovskiy to the point where he’s tweeted about you. I don’t know why he gets so angry about a site like Pure. DWTS is watched by 12 million viewers on average, Pure makes up a tiny percentage of DWTS fans. Why would he care that such a small amount of people think about him in a negative way. Maybe the bias comment is referring to the fact that the admins on this site are also admins on Pure Derek Hough?
I am proud. 🙂
As for PDH, the whole issue of “bias” is stupid and a non-starter. This is a blog, the very definition of which is “opinion”. Smart people know that all opinions have a bias of some kind. ALL. No one is exempt. This ain’t ABC News where some sort of objectivity is expected (and often not achieved).
I am biased against people who don’t understand these things. 🙂 Or who DO understand these things and whine anyway in some sort of attempt to shame or bully others into changing what they do and think. Val’s fans have tried that before, here, and it never worked which makes them mad. 🙂 It won’t work now either.
If he does not care why even tweet? I think all his fans adulation has gone into his head.I for one think he isn’t all that and am tired of his being shirtless all the time.
I agree. He “does” care or he wouldn’t be reading here or tweeting what he did. The thing is…he says we’re bias and yet if you look back, you’ll see a whole lot more posts about Val than the person he thinks we’re biased for. He’s got half of us blocked and yet, we’re the ones who still keep promoting him. Last night, I found out he blocked a fan just because they said they thought Derek and Kellie deserved to get 1st place. And geez, what’s wrong with having a Derek Hough site? I’m sure there are fans who made sites for him? Oh well.
He blocked someone for saying that Kellie and Derek deserved the MBT???
Um, gee, how objective, rational and clear headed.
Not. But what do you expect from someone who dodges the post finale media because they didn’t win and continually exhibits unprofessional behavior. Smart men realize that everyone who makes it to the final four “deserves” to win. Including Zendaya. But not everyone CAN win. There’s only one winner – and considering Kellie won even though she was a point down from Zendaya, I’d say she certainly deserved to win.
Hey, Val, when I looked yesterday I wasn’t blocked any more. Could you do me a favor and block me again? You’ve ruined my street cred. 😀
lol Heidi!!!
Val or anyone can say what they might, but this site is not all Derek lovers, or all Val lovers/haters, and so on. We consist of a fairly good mix of fans, of which, I think are a “true” reflection of the viewers that actually tune into the show.
Maybe Val would do himself a great service to just take a deep breath, put his shirt on… and just say okay, with all good criticism comes growth and confidence, and apply that confidence to his dancing.
It has to hurt to read that some fans would prefer Louis over Val, maybe Val could learn from this and better himself…. Okay Val, now put down your Louis voodoo doll… 🙂
#13 Princess H & #15 Sandy, love ya, ladies! Thanks for the laugh! That’s why I love coming here, reading the articles and comments, and commenting when I feel like it. I may or may not agree with everyone’s views, but hey, to each his own, right? Just follow the house rules of this site and we’d all be fine. So much wit and thoughtful posts, criticisms that are often sound, and reactions/opinions that are honest but not downright nasty–unlike the ABC boards and other sites.
P.S. He has a fan site, Voguerista? I hope it’s not the kind that bashes other pros instead of promoting him. Wait, do I really dare hope? 😉
I love this site. Everyone who runs it are fair and create a safe place for fans to come to. We can talk about our favorite pros and dances without fear of being bashed by haters. Thank you for that 🙂
My favorite pro will be in NY this season so I won’t be watching dwts this season but will be coming to this site to see if I should youtube a dance. Plus I love on the inside info. Great job to all you run this site!
And all the people who come here to read the content then trash it all over the place
Apparently it’s only OK to say express a negative opinion about something if you do it with a hashtag and you’re cryptic, or deep or whatever.
LOL Sandy. It’s always going to be *someone* but I think he and his fans have cast Derek as the big, bad wolf. The entertainment field is full of extremely talented people – and not everyone is going to love you. So…MAN UP. Do your best and accept that some will love you and some won’t. And acting like a petulant baby is going to swing that pendulum in a way you would not prefer.
I think he would be well served to listen to someone other than his worshippers. Might do him some good.
I love you all. xx
And lol Nobleze…well, come to think of it, I’m not sure he has a fan site or not? 😯
The hypocrisy is mind boggling….
Let’s be honest, Val is just pissed he doesn’t have a mirrorball trophy and he’s only got himself to thank. He is so competitive and is pissed that Derek has 5 and Mark has 2, because for the past seasons he has had some really good dancers. I thought Danica was a phenomenal dancer and I really do believe that if Danica was paired with another pro she could have been in that final. I think Val is so pissed after this season because he got 3rd and he lost to Mark who had a non dancer and still did better than him. We all know how competitive Val is, he throws shade all over the place. I mean i’m sure Mark, Derek and all the other pros stil get hate, but none of them have had the need to express themselves on twitter after the season ended. Nobody is as biased as Val and Maks and nobody throws shade like them. I mean I was qatching Val talk on the DWTS live tour and he said something amongst the lines “85% of the time it’s the producers who goes “take your shirt off” just like the gorilla suit .. referring to Mark and Bristol in the gorilla costumes, I mean there is no need to bring that up unless its set in your mind that Mark is better than you” I mean I’d rather see him in that gorilla suit than shirtless 😛
Val’s excited because he thinks, sans Derek, he has a better chance to win. Or at least make the final. And he’s right. Since Val’s been on the show, Derek has made the final 4 EVERY TIME. Of those 7 seasons, Derek was in the final 3 five times. By contrast, Val made the final four THREE times. Three out of 7. Of course he’s excited. Probably with good reason. They’ve been giving him fantastic partners – absent Derek and his continued run of getting a great partner, he might actually win.
Ah, but what will it mean if he hasn’t “gone up against the best,” his own pronouncement of what you have to do to claim that you’ve won? He still won’t be able to say that he won against Derek. Now that I think of it, if he’s going to win I’d just as soon it be this season, because it would always have (a figurative) asterisk: This win came during a season that Derek Hough sat out. Can you imagine the agony of having that follow him around? Val might do well to heed the admonition to be careful what you wish for.
It wouldn’t bother me if Val won or didn’t. I just would like it if he didn’t bring his attitude with him. But, then, maybe that attitude stemmed from the high competitor that won’t be on this season.
It’s funny to read Val’s tweets. If he doesn’t care, why even tweet about it? As you guys mentioned,he just wants to be defended by his fans. Pretty sad. During the Superbowl he tweeted to Amy, so I wanted to check his page, and noticed he blocked me, which is very funny considering I’ve NEVER twitted to him. How insecure is he?
On a side note, I hope Emma gets a great partner and wins this season. She has more than proven herself to be a great coach.
I never tweeted him either, Ananya, and he had blocked me – but it seems I’m not blocked any more. Pretty stupid to block someone that’s never even tweeted you. I mean, how insecure and silly is that? It’s not like people can’t see your feed – FYI, Val, they can if they want to. 🙂
#26 — Yup. Exactly. Reeks of insecurity. I almost feel sorry for him. He’s quite talented but cares way too much about what random people think. Blog = opinion. Besides, I don’t think anyone here is mean to him, per se. Critical of the enormous ego and annoyed by his string of ringer-esque partners, yes. But mean? No way.
All I can say is in (very) slight defense of Val – and really any celebrity – how difficult it must be to read anonymous criticism – even valid stuff. I think if I was famous I’d have to never read that stuff, cause that way lies madness.
Now where Val has the problem is that his ego is so big, anyone that disagrees with him or doesn’t adore him must be a “hater”. Of course there’s some nasty stuff said about him here (and elsewhere on the internet – but all celebs are subject to it), although most of it’s joking or just fans letting off steam. That stuff is easier to point out than the more reasonable and well-backed criticism which makes up the vast majority of the discussion about Val here. What I see most people say is – god he’s talented, just stop being a friggen wankjob with the showmances and ego, shut up and do your best for your celeb and good things will happen. But that’s harder to swallow with an ego of his size 🙂
Of course just bringing it up was dumb of him, too. But again – he has a hard time keeping his mouth closed.
Friggen wankjob?? I love that. 🙂
It’s much easier to dismiss the actual haters/crazies/shipper nutjobs as, well, nutjobs. But the discussions here are often well thought out, logical discussions – you’re right, those hare harder to swallow and harder to dismiss.
