@Vogue, You heard right, someone who watched GMA mentioned Rumer and Val saying they have no competition. It is sure going to be a long season with the show pimping them.
Thanks. I agree. She has officially turned me off now.
There goes that partnership. OTT arrogance. Which means IF the judges actually score her fairly when she screws up, the bitterness will come out full force. They’ll try to blame it on someone else and start trash talking Derek and Nastia. We’ve seen this all before.
I agree i liked her before her confidence became cockiness and arrogance. I dont care who it is but those two things are a complete turn off .
She was okay til she opened her mouth. Going to have to mute them when they are getting there critiques and when they talk. You are right Heidi. They will blame everything on Derek and Nastia when something doesnt go right And get judged fairly.
Okie dokie then. I guess there’s no point in watching any longer. Thou has proclaimed themselves the winner. Oh boy.
Well how arrogant is that. Just dropped them down huge notches.
Val should never open his mouth and now I guess neither should Rumer.
Guess they have never head the saying – If you can’t anything nice about someone don’t say anything at all.
Just lost a lot of respect for the two of them.
Sad!! And why is it that Cameron didn’t interview the rest of the couples if he was at rehearsals last night? Why just Rumer? I’m so sick of the pimping.
And she didn’t even say it in jest! NO competition, Rumer? Really? Not even from a gold medal–winning gymnast? What arrogance. Perfectly matched with Val.
Wow, that was a bit arrogant of a statement for Rumer to make. Interestingly, they are really promoting her on the Daily Mail as well. It is her name in the headline of any article about the show that they are running right now. Does she have high powered representation maybe? I think her cha cha will probably be good though and their scores tonight will solidify her being this season’s front runner. Here’s hoping some of the more interesting celebs are not hosed tonight and that this doesn’t become the Rumer Val show.
I first saw this interview on Yahoo this morning I think, but I didn’t read it because I was at work. And I saw the caption “Rumer doesn’t have competition” and I was thinking “Oh, well maybe she’s saying her only competition is herself” or something like that.
And now getting a chance to watch it… I feel like she should have said just that. The way she said it sounded way too arrogant. And then I feel like she tried to cover it up with that she’s just confident and that nothing else really matters. But still… That’s strike one with me. I’m going to give her one more chance. And if she rubs me the wrong way tonight, she’ll lose all support from me.
Puredwts please read Rumer’s instagram post she was Misinterpreted. I thought the same at first.
@anna – Yeah, a bunch of vague quotes on Instagram doesn’t exactly exonerate what she said. Regardless of whether she was misquoted or misspoke or what (I don’t think it was either), the celebs need to be cognizant of how they come off in interviews. It’s times like these when the Sabrina Bryan “I have rainbows shooting out of my ass 24-7!” method of PR really works…
I am speechless. She is forgetting that this competition is not only about skills. Likability plays a huge factor.
Looking at the comments on Yahoo she is already turing people off
It’s quite immature to have the just first experience in a series, and based on it going well conclude that the rest will be just the same. Not sure how she’ll handle it when something goes wrong/she gets injured/she’s beyond exhausted, which of course is bound to happen.
She’s super lucky that she can dances becuase she is as bad as Val now when it comes to the verbal diarrhea. Shame too cuz I actually liked her too.
Juusssst gonna put this out there as food for thought: I don’t think TPTB give a rat’s ass about Rumer. What I DO think they care about is getting A-listers like Bruce & Demi in the audience every week – and thus, they have incentive to keep her around and keep mommy & daddy showing up on-screen. If you think about it, they are the closest thing to A-listers they’ve had in the audience since Leah Remini managed to get J-Lo coming to watch. I think Rob & Co. have given up on ever getting an A-Lister to ever actually DO the show, so getting to show them in the audience is the next best thing.
As for Val – Heidi & I have discussed this before, but we think TPTB are intent on Val being the Big Man on Campus on DWTS after Maks and Derek are both gone for good. The problem is, he’s neither as talented as Derek, nor is he as colorful a personality as Maks. Thus, he needs a bit of a hand to really convince people that he’s uber-awesome and stuff – and even then, it’s not a guarantee. So in the end, I don’t think any of this pimping has anything to do with Rumer OR Val’s talent – it’s to suit the needs of TPTB.
I wonder how all this plays to the rest of the cast. These are people with whom she will have to work with in order to finish the season.(Swith up week, Team Dances etc.)
I also wonder if this is Rumer, or if this is Rumer on Val’s Koolaid?
LOL “Rumer Has It” alright Sounds like somebody drank too much of the C-bros Kool-Aid and it burned through what little filter she had. We knew that brew was corrosive stuff, but it’s even stronger than I thought. 😛
I wonder if this foolish comment will get traction in the real world where the average viewer is likely to see it? If so, will it cost her or will they give her the benefit of the doubt?
Read what she said under the instagram post those are her own words. I’m not a fan of her either but when I went to her instagram post I read what she said.
This is what she said:
It is not a contest there is no competition. We shouldn’t be worried about what the other is doing. There plenty of room for everyone to be happy and there is no need for all this negativity. We are all beautiful and unique and should hold space in our hearts for love not judgement and hate.
Court, it must be galling to know the only reason people want you is because they want to get to your famous mommy and daddy. However, she’s been dealing with that forever, and the flip side of that is I’m sure she’s had doors of opportunity opened for her that others have had to fight their way through.
Did you see what she said on Twitter/ Instagram? I think she’s making it sound like it’s not a competition to her and all other contestants aren’t her competition because she doesn’t see it as a contest to see who’s best. . I dunno… Check it out for yourselves and decide what she really meant… Shoulder shrugs…
I’d like to believe her because she does seem sweet.
Yes, anna, we read the same thing – believe it or not, I, too, am literate 🙂 And I still think it’s vague, and if she is attempting to clear the air, it’s a pretty half-assed attempt – if she TRULY wanted to clear up what was said, then she should have said something to the tune of “I was misquoted on GMA this morning, what I meant to say was…”. Something similar happened with Sharna during Charlie’s season, and she went out of her way to clear the air by clearing stating that what was said in the interview was “taken out of context” and proceeded to clearly state what she meant. I doubt Rumer regrets saying anything – just seems to me like she’s picking quotes off of tumblr and posting them and letting folks like you draw their own conclusions.
#Carrie M What she is saying that she’s there to have fun and interact with the cast its not about competing for her.
Yeah, gee, where have I heard that “I’m so misunderstood” bullshit before? Hmmmm…..
How do you reconcile the Instagram to the interview on GMA? IMo you can’t because she is saying that she and Val have no competition on the show and anyone criticizing her view of this is woman bashing? So, as women, we are not supposed to criticize her because she is one too? Sorry but comments made on tv are not misinterpreted, they are on video to be heard by all and she might regret what she said but she can’t deny it
@Judy – Exactly, Judy – we all heard her loud & clear on GMA. Kinda hard to be misquoted when people hear the words coming directly out of your mouth. And yes, the quote she posted leaves this VERY open to interpretation…especially since she didn’t provide any context. What’s to say her IG followers even saw her on GMA?
Although there’s obviously tons of perks to being a celebrity, I think the media scrutiny and numerous interviews can really be overwhelming for people, which is why I can buy that she didn’t express herself correctly. I do not envy anyone that has to have all of their thoughts and intentions and words always mean what you intend.
So despite Val’s history, I’m going to give Rumer the benefit of the doubt in this case. She may have just spoken too quickly and lost her train of thought, without finishing it to reveal her intent. If she begins coming across as cocky in other instances or her actions belie her explanation, then I’ll revise my take on it.
Rumer has been saying she has no competition from day one. She is not being misunderstood. I hear her loud and clear, she is very arrogant.
She’s not misquoted, that’s for sure – but she may have just expressed herself incorrectly. To me, what I think she was going for is that it’s not a competition but a journey – and just never finished the thought out loud. Nothing else about what she has done or said has come across at all cocky, so I think this is a case of her just getting a bit flustered in her answer.
Well, she’s no Kellie Pickler that’s for sure. Kellie said in a video where she was sitting in a chair, relaxed, and said, “She wanted to take that shiny ball back to Nashville.” Yet, she was as humble as humble could be during her journey, not to mention how she grew into a beautiful dancer.
I’m sorry, but I was thinking Nastia and Rumer would probably be my voting field towards the middle to end of this season; but between crybaby Val, and Rumer showing arrogance like the C fam, and then Len makes that horrendous, uncalled for statement about Val after their dance last week, Rumer won’t be in my voting field at all. I don’t care what kind of rudeness she suffered from the public, she is not the least bid humble in rehearsals or opening premier night, and this video tells it all. I do not like arrogance in any shape or form; and that’s one way a couple will lose my support. It’s one thing to have confidence in yourself; but, when it comes across as arrogant, not a good move. A person can be confident and humble at the same time.
Fig, she has said the same thing in other places, I think. This is not a new sentiment she is expressing. I am not voting for them anyway but I still think she will lose some votes if she doesn’t at least pretend to be humble. However, given how much support they were given by the judges I guess it has gone to her head a bit.
Anna – thanks for your input. I think Miss Rumer needs to watch what she says because she can fall from grace quickly. I think it’s great she wants to have fun and not really “compete” but saying something the wrong way can really screw you over! We’ll see what happens! Can’t wait for tonight…
Really, no competition.. That’s a pretty bold statement when you have Nastia, who IMO is just as good if not better & other contestants as well who are actually standing on their skills not being pimped because of the star power of their parents.-Just saying.(Not saying that she isn’t good)
Carolyn, you’re right, this is not the first time she’s made that statement. She said it in the livestream as well.
Cameron looked like he was shocked :).. That’s definitely not the way to respond if you want to win on DWTS. Other media sites are already talking about her being a little cocky. You go girl-LOL
Just watched it again, and I do think she’s trying to exude confidence but instead came across as cocky. As I said before, she said it so there’s no way she’s misquoted. But before I crucify her, I’ll wait and see how she behaves in subsequent interviews.
That being said, it does seem like a “been there, done that” with Val’s partners. Sigh.
Make no mistake people, Rumer does see this as a competition and she WANTS to win. I would venture to say she is pretty cofident that they will win. If you watched their last All Access Rehearsal, she said something along the lines of…We will win this season. Obviously! And then I will be the first celebrity who comes back as a pro and wins!” -_-
Humility is not her strong suit, I would say!
I’m not buying what she said at instagram either.
That’s a fun and very kind interpretation, anna. But that’s all it is – your interpretation.
# Carrie M Your Welcome She’s still young I agree needs to watch her mouth think before speaking.
She’s never been a favorite, but I’ll have more respect for her if she just owns it and doesn’t start backtracking. It’s not like she hasn’t said it before. It won’t endear her to me but at least she’ll be honest and herself.
Besides, who knows how many people have told her she doesn’t have any competition: producers, judges, media, rabid fans, the heavens above, Val. Why wouldn’t she think she’s got this. Really, JUST KIDDING and being silly.
KreativeKat, Kellie also kept acknowledging the other couples and saying how “amazing,” (her word) they were as well. She certainly didn’t ever say that she had no competition… she lacked self-confidence too much! Actually, I can’t remember any other celebrity, making such a arrogant statement.
I do think it’s kind of funny that she said “it’s not a contest, there is no competition…” when that is one thing that the show most certainly is. Sure, she may not “view” it as a competition, but it’s undeniable that it’s a show where people put in a lot of effort and are compensated for how long they appear. The money may not be what everyone is in it for – some might just want to learn to dance and challenge themselves, or find some way to be in the limelight – but that doesn’t negate that it is a competition. Just another reason why I think she is either not articulating herself properly, or the other excuse being that she really is that daft.
@Kenya Smith…
Yes, Kellie always acknowledged the other celebs always praising and her confidence got better each week. I loved her journey, the beautiful person she was inside and out, and she clapped and supported the others. She also showed good showmanship with her finalist opponents Zendaya & Alley.
Yes, she did, KreativeKat, she was my favorite on the show too.
#17 Court: you hit the nail on the head. I agree TPTB will keep pimping Rumer-Val for her A-list parents’ visibility in the audience. The fact the Rumer also has an insufferable ego and claims “no competition” (despite the obvious talent of Nastia) is for me just icing on an unpalatable cake. “Pride goeth before the fall” or some such saying comes to mind and I will be perversely delighted if the gold MBT goes to a more deserving contestant.
