Dancing with the Stars Season 20, Week FOUR – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
Grab ya kleenex and get ready for “Most Memorable Year” Week. :::sigh::: Anyone else remember the good old days when every single week didn’t have to have a theme?? I do.
Anyway, Vogue has been a workin’ fiend as per usual and the info we have so far on the dances comes from her Massive Media Roundup post….or in Sharna’s case, her blog. Mark and Willow’s dance is from something he said on Afterbuzz, which Vogue will put up as soon as she gets it.
And hey – at least they’re not all Rumbas.
ETA: Apparently it’s okay if someone other than us spoils the songs. Really ABC – Just Jared is a better option? Funny how no one cared about the songs until we started spoiling them a few seasons ago. Humph. Michael’s song already feels heart wrenching. Nastia’s song is so perfect for an AT that I wonder if it was her idea. I wonder about Chris’ also.
ETA2: Finally got Suzanne’s and Riker’s dances nailed down. According to Courtney, they could have gone several ways with those particular songs.
Nastia and Derek – Argentine Tango (Song: “Variations on Dark Eyes” by Lara St. John)
1-855-234-5604
Dancing 1st
Rumer and Val – Waltz (Song: “Turning Tables” by Adele)
1-855-234-5610
Patti and Artem – Jazz (Song: “Dan Swit Me” by Patti LaBelle)
1-855-234-5606
Willow and Mark – Contemporary (Song: “Atlas” by Coldplay)
1-855-234-5612
Chris and Witney – Rumba (Song: “The Book of Love” by Gavin James)
1-855-234-5602
Michael and Peta – Rumba (Song: “Not My Father’s Son” from “Kinky Boots”)
1-855-234-5603
Noah and Sharna – Contemporary (Song: “American Soldier” by Toby Keith)
1-855-234-5605
Robert and Kym – Waltz (Song: “The Last Waltz” by Engelbert Humperdinck)
1-855-234-5609
Riker and Allison – Tango (Song: “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk The Moon)
1-855-234-5608
Suzanne and Tony – Foxtrot (Song: “Three’s Company Theme” by Dominik Hauser)
1-855-234-5611
Robert and Kym also seem to have the waltz it was in one of the post show interviews
“Anyone else remember the good old days when every single week didn’t have to have a theme??” Yep.
Which source told you girls that Willow and Mark have contemporary?
Out of Mark’s mouth on Afterbuzz, Robelynn.
I’m not the biggest fan of contemporary but I’m very curious to see wha willow and mark have in store. She looks like she might enjoy that dance style a lot.
Mark said Willow is one of his hardest working partners. That she trains like shawn and kristi. Everything he said about willow in that afterbuzz video has got me really exicted. I really can’t wait to see their dance next week. I wonder if they are going to dance to hanging tree by jennifer lawrence because its most memorable year. Willow said her fans would really like its so i think its going to be hunger games themed.
So Val said he’s never done a waltz on DWTS, only the Viennese. I know ZERO about dancing so could someone explain the difference? Thanks!
Add me to the list of those who remember with great fondness the good ol’ theme-less days. Oh well, I hope this theme doesn’t overwhelm the celebs. Sometimes they get so overwrought that the dancing is pretty mediocre.
I’m glad we’ll see a slow waltz from Rumer. Finally a change of pace, although I expect it will still be intense.
Can’t wait to see what Sharna comes up with for Noah. I just feel Contemporary will be right up his alley as long as they control their emotions.
It seems a no brainer Willow will do something related to Hunger Games. When you’ve only had 14 years on the planet and you’re in one of the top movie franchises, you’re not going to pick ‘the year I got my puppy’ (as special as that is).
Needless to say, I’m expecting the AT from Nastia/Derek to be brilliant.
@ Cidra “the year I got my puppy”. love it. This is usually my least fav of the theme nites, but I will try & reserve judgement.
So true, at least it’s not all rumbas.
I actually like the personal story theme weeks, because it’s usually the first time we get to dive deeper into the personalities and stories of the celebs, which I love – especially since going to one night, there’s less time spent getting to know them, simply because of time constraints. Sure, some of them can be a bit hokey or forced, but many are touching and it adds more depth (haha CAI) to my perception of them as people to root for.
The only thing I don’t like about theme weeks is when they try to force a dance to a particular song or emotion that doesn’t fit, so the dancing suffers. But for the most part they usually jive (haha pun) well.
My two least-favorite theme weeks – America (or USA or whatever) and Rock night – the first because a lot of the songs sucked, the second because there was absolutely no variety in the styles and tone – every routine seemed to be derivative of the rest.
I’m hoping Rumer will do something LESS intense, Cidra. Rumer is becoming a bit one-note.
Loving Rumer and look forward to her Waltz!
Thanks for the updates.
@ Figamentation Well maybe I misspoke, I do like getting an insight into the celebs stories, it’s just when all the dances are for dead people it’s gets a little weird. IDK
ITA about Americana week. I remember Ralph & Karina getting raked over the coals by the judges for their Samba to Sweet Home Alabama.
I’m so excited about Nastia and Derek’s AT!
YES! Nastia and Derek doing an AT at full 90 seconds! Woohoo! And their routine should be fire!
I’m excited and worried for Nastia and Derek as it sounds like he was still in LA yesterday. I have to say I’m starting to scratch my head. I’m eager to see what dance Riker and Allison have and I have no doubt Noah will bring down the house. What an amazing individual.
Rumer is sweet, but all the hype has completely made me lose interest. They clearly set her back a notch Monday simply so that they can build her up again. The show has become so transparent they’ve taken the anticipation out of who will hoist the trophy.
I love Rock Night but I also agree about the one note music selected. It’s almost always 80’s Hair Band stuff. Why no U2, The Clash, The White Stripes, The Hives?
Derek does some epic AT’s. That, and the intensity of the dance should suit Nastia perfectly.
Val’s Waltz needs to be flowing and romantic, not stacato and intense. We’ll see.
I’m a little worried about Peta and Michael’s Rumba. I love her, but in her Rumbas Peta has a tendency to dance around her partner, while he stands there on the floor like a potted palm. I hope she gets him to move fluidly and expressively.
@Jill L I’m no dance expert but all I know is that the regular Waltz (or “Slow Waltz”) is generally slower than a Viennese Waltz. I’m sure our dance experts here can go more in depth about the differences 😛
I’m really curious about Nastia and Derek’s dance. Mainly because I’m dying to knoe what year she chose and which song. Don’t think we’ve ever had an Argentine Tango for this specific theme night. Should be fun! And Derek always comes up with some of the best AT’s of the show, so even more excited for that.
Noah’s Contemporary is probably gonna make me cry like a baby so I’m ready for that.
I’m not a huge fan of the Slow Waltz, but I do want to see what Rumer and Val come up with. Didn’t realizd Val had never done one before. Should be interesting. Add me to the list of those who would like to see a much softer side of Rumer as opposed to the sexy, hard-hitting, edgy Rumer Willis.
@Rose1 Don’t worry! They don’t rehearse on Tuesdays cause of class, but they make it up later on. They still come out and kill the dances and Derek works very well under pressure and it seems Nastia does too so I’m the least bit worried.
Tina, they said in the AH interview that they lose “part” of Tuesday for rehearsals, but not ‘all’ of Tuesday.
The last several seasons, I think we’ve mentioned here wanting Val’s partner to show more sides, and so far this season, it’s been the same for Rumer. It’s like he chooses just one part of their personality, the one that is the most “front and center” and creates every dance to show that one part. And Tony, I think, seems to have the same tic. They’re both fantastic dancers, and great teachers, I just want to see MORE than the same side of their partners each season.
I don’t remember where I saw it, maybe during their AfterBuzz interview, but Riker chose 2014 as his most memorable year, when his band’s album was released, and they went on a world tour. So, while we still don’t know which dance they’re doing, I think it’s almost a guarantee (and this is ONLY MY GUESS! I HAVE NOTHING EXCEPT THIS ONE INTERVIEW TO BASE IT ON!) they’ll be dancing to an R5 song, with possibly the band playing it live. Just a guess.
Willow and Mark don’t have rehearsals at all on Tuesday. They do great for having less time than all the other couples excluding maybe derek and nastia.
Lori, if I was a betting woman, I’d bet $100 bucks that you’re right about Riker’s song.
I guess I still don’t understand the concern about Nastia’s rehearsal time. Derek no longer has anything other than performances at Radio City. So, even if they lose all of Tuesday, they still are making time. This past week, Nastia and Derek rehearsed on Wed/Thur/Friday, then Nastia flew to LA on Friday evening. I’m assuming she practiced sometime on Saturday with Henry, did wardrobe, etc – but she also posted a photo of herself and her bf in Santa Monica – so she’s getting some down time too. Then on Sunday she rehearses with Henry for a bit, they do camera blocking. Derek flies in, sleeps three hours and he and Nastia rehearsed Monday morning. By my count, that’s SIX different rehearsals – since Derek has said it’s just he and Nastia, and no breaks to chat with all the other couples like they do in LA, I would be willing to be that they are getting nearly as much (maybe more) rehearsal than the other couples. Anyone who has been watching Derek grow up over the course of DWTS should know by now that the man will get it done. If something happens and they don’t get it done, well – bad luck, but he will beat himself up and work even harder.
Honestly, if Derek does NOTHING on Tuesdays and Nastia is sitting in a classroom, it’s probably the best for both of them. Your body needs some down time.
Oh, and by my count, that’s FOUR rehearsals with Derek and TWO with Henry. Math is NOT Anna’s strong suit, clearly – or it doesn’t suit her purpose.
I’m really looking forwad to Nastia/Derek Willow/Marka and Sharna/Noah. I think the AT tango will fit Nastia really well and I usually love the AT’s Derek puts togehter. I have really high hopes for them this week! I’ve been loving Mark and Willow so I’m looking forward to them, I wonder if it will have some Hunger Games vibe to it, assuming she picks that for her most memorable year. I can’t even imagine what Sharna will come up with for Noah, it’s bound to be emotional! I think this theme week is my favorite of them (I too wish there were some weeks that were just normal.)
I have a feeling I’ll be needing a box of Kleenex to watch Noah and Sharna!! Love that guy…. 🙂 And I love Queen Sharna!!
ANY seasoned professional can accomplish more in less time than less seasoned ones. And different people have more or less efficient personalities and styles. Mark and Derek and Kym know what works for this show. And they’ve had wide range of celebrity ability and they know how to cut to the chase. Mark can accomplish a lot with Willow in her restricted hours and Derek can accomplish a lot with Nastia in restricted hours.
More isn’t always more.
I’m definitely in the camp of wanting to see a different side to Rumer. I like her, honestly. But she is becoming one note. And Len has made his bias pretty clear so here’s my concern with Val choreographing a waltz: I foresee a lot of open work. Just like with the foxtrot. Just like with Janel’s VW last season. The question is: will Len dock him points for it like he did in the past (with not just Val though) or will he continue to be a supporter of “It’s Val’s season”?
I’m excited to see Nastia and Derek’s AT. I think her gymnast intensity will work well with the AT. Also, I know that Derek will tastefully incorporate lifts into the routine. I think it will be a really good dance.
As always, I’m also excited for Noah and Sharna. There are so many fluid movements in contemporary, so I’m interested to see the choreography Sharna dreams up. I hope they don’t use the arm this week, because I love what they do without it, and since contemporary doesn’t require anything in hold, I don’t think they need it.
Oh and of course I’m excited for Miss Patti. I really don’t care how much content or any of that her dance has. I just love her, and every time she performs, it puts a big smile on my face.
PH, I’d like to see something different from Rumer too, but I’m not sure they know how to do anything that doesn’t come across as “intense”. In Rumer and Val’s post-show interview with E! when asked about next week, Val said something about “switching it up” that this past week had been “all about fun” but next Monday would be more “intimate” and Rumer chimed in with “have more depth”. To me that sounds like we’re in for “slow and intense” vs. “fast and intense”. I suppose “intimate” and “deep” could mean softly romantic.
Jill L – Viennese waltz and waltz are two completely different dances in that they have a different sets of steps and different timing. Viennese waltz is mostly rotating to the left or right while waltz (or slow waltz as some call it) is very smooth and flowing but mostly not rotating (similar to foxtrot?). I’m sure a pro could describe it better, I’m just an amateur that dances with a pro and half the time doesnt know what set of steps I am doing as I do them automatically based on his lead, so all I can tell you is that they are two completely different dances.
Sharna just said they won’t be using the arm this week, for anyone who wanted to know.
I could have sworn that I did a post on the difference between the two types of waltzes awhile back, but I can’t find it 🙁 So here’s just a few things I would add to Aprilp’s description…
…the biggest difference between the two is tempo: Viennese waltz is much faster than standard/slow waltz. Due to the speed of Viennese waltz, the footwork is more compact, and the person stepping forward has to cross their feet at the end of the figure in order to prepare for the next bar. There are more figures in waltz than Viennese waltz, simply because there’s more time due to the slower tempo. One correction: both waltzes rotate, but it’s just much more noticeable in the Viennese waltz.
Within the context of DWTS, the waltz has recently just become “that dance we pull out sometimes because it’s the only dance that fits a certain song”. It used to be that everyone did it, or everyone did it OR the Viennese waltz, or everyone only did Viennese waltz…there’s been several variations over the years, but since season 12, I think, it’s just been a dance that cropped up every now and then, on an as-needed basis. Can’t remember any waltzes that have been wildly memorable – I liked Amy & Sabrina’s respective Cinderella waltzes, and I think I remember liking Jennifer’s, too…but beyond that, nothing is really sticking out.
In my opinion, nothing tops Ralph and Karina’s Romeo & Juliet Waltz – I still watch it with regularly!
Oh I loved Amy’s Waltz. It truly was beautiful and she looked stunning as Cinderella that week.
One that sticks out to me is, and is probably my favorite, is Katherine Jenkins’ Waltz dedicated to her father. That dance was just gorgeous and I remember crying like a baby watching it. I don’t know if would be considered a “proper” Waltz but it was still beautiful.
Watching Noah’s livestream and I’m sure I can hear Coldplay in the background. Wouldn’t surprise me if Willow and Mark have Atlas. Can’t wait for that if it’s true.
CCNY, #35, I agree about Katherine Jenkins’ waltz. It was spectacular, moving, and beautiful. In fact, I think I’ll find it on youtube and watch it again. Thanks for reminding us of that waltz.
The songs has just been announced (I’ve sure the mods will post them here soon). I just listened to Nastia and Derek’s and I can’t wait to see them dance to it – it’s stunning!
I already have tissues stocked up for Noah but I’m actually expecting Michael’s to be really emotional based on the song! I think if he nails the dance it will him and Peta’s much needed comeback! Based on their livestream that had crappy audio and started 30 min late they looked really good, I’m hoping they (Michael) can bring the emotion to the dance! Noah and Sharna with the song and the story along with a contemporary dance on top of that will be so powerful and emotional There won’t be a dry eye!
@M8 Good job on calling Willow and Mark’s song 😀
I’m wondering if they’ll do some sort of Hunger Games theme to it. Very much looking forward to their dance. Love me some Hunger Games!
I REALLY like Noah, Michael, and Nastia’s song. I had to look up Nastia’s and it turns out it was her floor music for 2008. Had no idea. Now I’m curious about this one… Should be great though I bet. And then Michael and Noah’s songs are both so emotional. I’ll have my tissues ready for those.
Based on the songs I’m guessing Riker has the ChaCha and Suzanne has the Foxtrot? “Three’s Company” always struck me as a song fitting for a Foxtrot. Not sure what “Shut Up and Dance” has to do with Riker’s most memorable year, but I’m excited to find out.
I also have no idea how Rumer’s song is going to relate to her most memorable year, but I do like it anyways. It sounds a bit fast for a Waltz, though.. Idk.
I usually hate “My Favorite Year” theme but I think it’s going to be really good this year!!! I just finished Robert & Kym’s live stream from today and his year is 1970. The year his dad packed him and his mom up and fled Croatia for Canada. Noah & Sharna also talked about their dance today and I’m going to cry my eyes out when they perform.
Don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet … I gave the posts a quick look and didn’t see that anyone did … the selection “Variations on Dark Eyes” Nastia & Derek are using for their AT is the same piece of music she used for her Floor Exercise in 2008 when she won the All Around Gold Medal at the Olympics …
Heather I agree!
I am looking forward to Robert’s, Noahs, and Michael’s as based on what we’ve heard there should be some really good stories there. On the live stream Robert said they came to Canada with a 20 dollar bill and one suitcase which is crazy and of course Noah’s will be spectacular, Sharna has been great this season.
I think this has to be the week of improvement for a lot of the contestants, as this week could be key to determining any longevity in the competition. The switch up is also looming and a lot of votes could be thrown out lol
Oh … I now see a mention of Nastia’s Floor Ex music now in #CC NY’s post … it is ‘Most Memorable Year’ … and that score did win her the Olympic Gold in the All Around … something she’d been working for her whole life … sorry to duplicate the info …
Aprilp and Courtney, thanks for the help. I did Google some videos so I have a rough idea now that I know a little more about it.
CC NY, that Adele song is about a break up…maybe her parents divorce?
Michele’s song is so emotional. If you have read anything about his dad, he’s apiece of work. I’m sure his dance and Noah’s will be very moving.
Suzanne is using the song from Three’s Company? Gosh more cutesy/gimmicky stuff….
Oh, man. Noah and Sharna are dancing to a Toby Keith song? That’s one dance I’ll have to avoid because I cannot support anything Toby Keith.
I love that Adele song that Rumer and val are dancing to. Still don’t like them. Think they’ll break out the 10s for them since “it’s val’s season” and all?
I’m with you, Fancy. Cannot STAND Toby Keith. Maybe I’ll watch with the sound off.
Question, do the judges prefer the professionals to stick to international standard or do they give the Pros leeway to choreograph their celebrities in the American Smooth style? I’m asking because it’s usually Len who gets bent out of shape when the couple “breaks” out of hold. I can’t help but think to myself that it’s not necessarily wrong when they do that unless a specific “style” of that dance was specified. Just a newbie fan here trying to acclimate myself with the show and the judges expectations. As for the song choices, I’m preparing myself to be a wreck on Monday. Sharna and Noah dancing to “American Solider” will be beyond choreographed steps for me. Michael to me hasn’t been the mover I thought he would be, but I imagine this week will be good for him since he has a personal connection to the music.
I love that song by Patti that she’s dancing to. When I was a freshman and I high school I danced to that song. I remember it being one if the more fun pieces we did.
I like Rikers song a lot too. It’s one of the songs on my current playlist. I hope they have a jazz dance. I’d love to see what Allison could choreograph with Riker to that song.
Not that rehearsal time (or lack there of) appears to be an issue from the performances Derek and Nastia are putting out week after week..she probably is on spring break for a bit…..
Thanks CC 😀 Love Coldplay and Atlas so I can’t wait to see a hunger games contemporary. It could be the surprise of the night.
For the first time, I have listened to all of the selected songs, and I’m ready for an interesting night of dance. Derek’s AT with Kelli is my #1 dance of all time, the followed by their Flamenco. I’m a frequent viewer on that one! Having watched the video above of Nastia, I think we have the potential for the best AT Derek’s ever done. The leg work and the lifts should blow the doors off!
I’m hoping the 2nd best dance will be Mark & Willow’s followed by Kym & Robert’s waltz. I think Kym does an excellent job with all of her waltzes.
Based on Rallison song, they are most probably going to do a either a cha cha or jazz routine.cHopefully Allisonnwill do a better job with choreo if its the cha cha.
So excited for Markingjay. I know they are goung to be awesome as always.
P.S idk why, but i have a feeling Mark reads puredwts. I remember a small cluster of comments in another post about people getting irritated about willow talking about her age, and in afterbuzz he was aaying that she wasnt the one who wanted to capitalize on her age but the producers. Haha
Still love them to death, want them to win
I really like Rumer and Val song pick but I’m a bit worry how it will fit slow waltz. Any way I think their performance will be highlight for sure. Also I’m very exited about Mark and Willow contemporary. I bet Willow will be very good at contemporary since she is actress and I am sure Mark’s choreography will shine as always. I’m looking forward to see Sharna and Noah doing contemporary, I think it will be very emotional. Speaking about Nastia and Derek, I am not a fan of these two. I mean Nastia dance amazing and Derek is good choreographer but they just don’t click. I mean I don’t like them as individuals and as a pair they don’t seem to have any connection… Anyway, I am afraid that they could be on the top of the leaderboard again because dance style it self and song pick are amazing.
Hoping Riker has jazz as well to mix-up the styles some and I just think Allison could do well with that style and song for him. It’s a bit random to me that Nastia has AT as it isn’t the typical “memorable year” dance style but I wonder if she specifically requested that song and if so that obviously lends itself more to an AT than other styles.
I’m wondering how the story line of Derek and Nastia not having chemistry (because of lack of friction? There needs to be friction for chemistry? How does that work??) is going to play out this week. The AT is soooo intense, and really is all about the connection. So are they going to:
1 – Say it was technically excellent but left them cold because of that “lack of connection” OR
2 – Proclaim a miracle has occurred and praise them for the outstanding improvement?
In the context of this being Val’s year and all, I’m betting on option #1. smh
I think I’d rather pour boiling oil into my ears than listen to Toby Keith.
The theme to Three’s Company sounds like a Foxtrot to me. I just want a gimmick free elegant dance from Suzanne and Tony.
Michael’s dance is going to be so moving. I hoping this is his breakthrough moment in the competition.
By the way, has anyone seen Kinky Boots? It’s got three things I love, drag queens, boots and music. I’ve been wanting to see it, although I’ll probably have to wait for a touring company.
I dont understand why it should be val’s season.
Yes, hes a great professional ballroom dancer…but, I am not impressed by his choreography, same with Maks, I think it doesn’t always translate well for either…for a dwts show.
Len gets his knickers in a twist when he’s technically not supposed to, Tammy. He has his own preferences for the content he wants in several dances, even if it’s not required. And he does nitpick as if they are using international standard, although I believe it’s been said on many occasions that they are using American Smooth. Courtney probably remembers this stuff better than I do, I just remember Len blasting Derek for something and one of the other judges remarking, “But they’re using American Smooth”. That’s happened on several occasions.
Susan2, please save some of your boiling water for me.
Mark does read PureDWTS. ::::waves to Mark:::: Oh, and :::waves to Mark fans who police web sites looking for negative things to report to him:::: LOL. 🙂 I’m cracking myself up today.
We must be doing okay, since he hasn’t tweeted me lately. I kinda miss him. 😉
DLT, she did a gold medal winning floor routine to that song…as numerous (way too numerous, please stop) Nastia fans have informed me. 🙂
LurkerB5 – the whole connection thing didn’t seem to make it to the judges last week, so I wonder if it was a passing thing the producers were trying to get started. Maybe it will pick up this week.
I think it’s highly subjective in any case. Watching them interviewed together shows Nastia is really coming out of her shell and she seems happy.
Thanks for the idea, Susan2 – I’m going back to NYC first of May and was thinking of what to see. 🙂
Susan2 and PH, I’ve seen Kinky Boots twice since it opened two years ago. It’s fantastic!!! Go!!!
And I just bought a ticket, Meggie. 🙂
PH, I think you will love it! It’s got everything – a great story, great music and great acting. The guy who plays the lead in unbelievable! I’m excited for you!
@Heidi – Also, hello to Gina Carbone from Wet Taint, who is so devoid of original ideas that she has to creep our comments section for content. *blows kisses*
LOL…ah, so many creepers, so little time…
It’s a sign of huge success if you’re being creeped by the “competition” all the time, although some acknowledgement would be nice, I’m sure! Congratulations Mods!!!
Heidi and Court….LOL!!!
A Tango to “Shut Up and Dance”? Ehh… Not my cup of tea. Much rather see a ChaChaCha to it. This is “Sugar” all over again! Either way I hope they make it work as a Tango.
I’m excited to see Suzanne finally do a ballroom dance. I feel like that’s gonna suit her a lot more than the Latin dances.
@CC NY – The same song was used as Alfonso’s Argentine tango/cha-cha fusion during last season’s finale, so I don’t think a tango is too far off. I even think I told Heidi “Could be a cha-cha, could be a tango, could be an Argentine tango…any of the 3 fit, rhythmically.”
Or Mark could have commented the age thing because Carrie Ann made a comment about it on Monday night ..
Oh how did I forget about Alfonso’s fusion dance! Ok I think I can see a proper Tango done to that song now.
Witney’s choreography for the fusion, I remember, was perfect. Hopefully Allison can do the same – wasn’t totally impressed with her Tango with Jonathan last season.
Now that all the songs are there I gotta say that is a crazy song list but in a good way. Only two I’m slightly not as excited for are Noah’s (great song but not sure it will work as well as he thought) and suzzanne (I know it was her show and stuff and people love it and Her and all that but a foxtrot?
@Vin: I think it’s going to come down to what portion(s) of the song he has and if the dance fits the sound/words. It’s also possible that they might have some sort of stripped-down version or something.
I have to say, FWIW, that you can put me into the “I wouldn’t go to a Toby Keith concert if you paid me” crowd. That said, my respect for Noah and what he’s doing outweighs my revulsion for Toby, so I’ll keep the music on when the time comes.
@N, yeah that too…
Small favor (to anyoneof course)…Since the rehersals cant be posted anymore, can someone at least make like a short summary of how the rehersals went? Particularly willow’s? (Yes, I am biased) That would be super nice. Thank you so much.
Praying to God that the scores and the votes align.
Ah, the song list–although I’m even less impressed with ABC than before if they’re OK with Just Jared.
I’m still not a fan of Personal Story Night. So this week is always one I just grit my teeth and suffer through as best I can (with the help of some adult beverages). The songs will also help this season. There are only three that have me cringing: “The Last Waltz” (Humperdinck? Must we go there?), the “Three’s Company” song, and sadly Toby Keith’s “American Soldier” (I actually like some country artists, just not this guy *shudder*). Yeah, I get why Noah’s dancing to it, but I so wish he wasn’t; it’s really going to be hard for me to enjoy the performance.
The rest of the song choices run from “great, can’t wait” to “yeah, that’s OK.”
@Jamie I watched Willow and Mark’s rehearsal and it was fantastic. She is looking REALLY good. The whole concept of the dance is based on the “arena scene” of the Hunger Games where everyone is fighting each other with weapons and stuff. They were rehearsing with some sticks that were supposed to be the weapons and they are also going to have other dancers (I’m guessing the troupe) to play the part of the other tributes. Overall, the dance, I believe is going to look amazing. She’s apparently chosen the song because it was the song she heard as she walked out of the premiere of the movie and saw all the fans. They wanted to use “Hanging Tree” at first buuut clearance issues.
That being said, about Willow and Mark… I am so excited to see their Contemporary. I think it’s gonna be awesome and I just hope Len doesn’t get all crabby because of the concept of it.
@CCNY Watched a bit of Allison & Riker’s rehearsal and their Tango looks really good too. Looks like Allison is being technical this time instead of going all out like their last two dances. Cannot wait to see Nastia & Derek’s AT. Going to be fantastic.
@Tina I missed some of their rehearsal but the little bit I saw of them dancing looked good too. I was surprised and very impressed with the steps Allison is incorporating in their dance. I’m really enjoying her this season.
I also REALLY wish we could get a live stream with Nastia and Derek.. At least a pre-recorded one like last time. Booo :/ I bet their dance is also looking fantastic by now. I always expect great AT’s from him; don’t think there’s any I haven’t liked!
@CC NY I agree, I am too. I think along with Derek and Mark, she’s bringing some creativity and fresh choreography this season. Why not, especially when she has the partner that can handle it. I definitely see her and Riker in the final four with Nastia & Willow and Rumer.
And I agree with you about the livestream, I just am so fascinated at watching how Derek comes up with the masterpieces he creates!!
I always think more than one pros “visits” this site. Might even be producers or the judges, who knows 🙂 They know the mods here are knowledgeable. I’m pretty sure, at least, they read Courtney’s Power Rankings or Heidi’s numbers or Vogue’s Questionnaire. This is where they can build their storyline. Based on what the fans discussed. What are the most heated topics, etc.
Yeah, we know the producers are well acquainted with this site also. They told John to his face they knew all about it…and that we were right more often than we know. 🙂
I am very very happy and relieved that Willow and Mark will use Atlas as their contemporary music. I figured from the start that Willow’s Most Memorable dance would be something HG related and contemporary is obviously the most suitable dance for any of the key HG movie music, but everyone I knew who watches this show kept saying they wanted her to use Safe and Sound or The Hanging Tree. Nothing against these two songs but I don’t find them as good to dance to as Atlas.
I’m also really excited to see Patti dance jazz! I think this style would suit her swag, though I’m not sure how she will fare with her injury.
Looking forward to seeing willows contemporary nastias AT and Rikers tango and intrigued to see noahs contemporary . It could be a good night of dances if everything goes well .
My thoughts on each dance with a score guess
Rumor and Val: Definitely one I am curious about because she really likes the intense and this dance sorta is that way. My guess (9,8,9,9)
Patti and Artem: She is pretty awesome and honestly she isn’t the strongest dabcer there but she is the most fun to watch in my opinion. My guess is jazz will be good for her and the score will be (7,7,7,7).
Willow and Mark: Should be a good one. (9,8,9,9)
Chris and Witney: Honestly, not sure what to expect from him. One week he is really good then the next not so much only to have a big comeback with the AT. He needs to just let loose. My guess (7,7,7,7).
Michael and Peta: Should be a good one for him. (8,8,8,8)
Noah and Sharna: Should be good….just hope (like someone said before that they pick and choose areas of the song carefully). My guess (8,8,8,8).
Robert nd Kym: (8,7,8,8)
Riker and Allison: (9,8,9,9)
Suzzanne and Tony: (8,8,8,8)
Nastia and Derek: (9,9,9,9)
The only song out of that group that I am familiar with is the one by Toby Keith. I am glad to see that Noah is dancing to a song by an artist who is so supportive of our military.
I cant really predict scores but I dont think theyll make Nastia 1st place 3 weeks in a row. it might actually be good for her since it could give her a better arc. Could be wrong.
Dont think theyll put out 10s, but I see 4 9’s this upcoming week.
I know it unpopular opinion, but I am actually look forward to Most Memorable Year.
Is it true that their toing to make the dances a minute and 30 seconds? If so, thank god!
For once I’m actually interested in seeing how a Waltz would be done. Val had never done the Waltz this far (only the Viennese Waltz if I’m not mistaken) so I’m interested to see him choreograph one. I can totally see it’s not going to be in hold much, and while I don’t mind that too much (my favourite Waltz ever done on DWTS, Katherine’s, was mainly out of hold as well), I also want to see a softer and more elegant side of the aggressive Rumer I know this far. Heck, this is Most Memorable Year anyway.
About other Waltzes, I remember really liking Donald’s, as well as Ralph’s and Amy’s. And of course Jennifer’s. Chelsea Kane’s benefitted from having my favourite rendition of “My Love” EVER (sorry, Sia!), but Mark’s choreography was very pretty too. Those are the ones I remember distinctly now. Waltz routines are rarely showstoppers, but I liked seeing it when featured, so it’s nice to see two being danced this week while only one was danced on S19’s whole season.
@Daniel I loved Chelsea and Mark’s as well and big part of it was because of the song. What a beautiful rendition of “My Love”. Whoever that singer was, she did a stellar job.
I’ll do my prediction on scores. I am always dead wrong but it’s still fun 😛
Nastia & Derek : 35 (9,8,9,9)
Rumer & Val : 36 (9,9,9,9)
Noah & Sharna : 34 (9,8,9,8)
Suzanne & Tony : 30 (7,7,8,8)
Michael & Peta : 32 (8,8,8,8)
Robert & Kym : 31 (8,7,8,8)
Patti & Artem : 28 (7,7,7,7)
Chris & Witney : 26 (7,6,6,7)
Riker & Allison : 33 (8,8,8,9)
Willow & Mark : 37 (9,9,9,10)
Yes, I know it is kinda crazy to say they’ll give out a 10 on Monday… even more so to Willow. However, I just think her dance is gonna be amazing. The concept is awesome, and from her rehearsal the other day she looked VERY good. I have high hopes for this one. Of course, I could be totally wrong and Len’s precious, Rumer, gets a 10 and/or gets the highest score of the night.
Since it’s personal story week which means the celebs are emotionally exposed and vulnerable, I hope the Stooges are very careful and kind with their comments–focus on the positive, and don’t nit-pick.
However, I also hope the judges stay “real” with their scores and don’t let the emotions of the night push them into waving 9 and 10 paddles around like fans on a hot Summer’s day. It’s only week 4, for heaven’s sake! Sure, there’s a chance that the stars align for someone and they hit a grand slam (both in terms of performance and dance technique). If that happens, then a 10 might be reasonable; but I don’t want to see any “emotional” 10s.
Hey what’s the deal “Wet Paint”…we should be getting residuals if you are poaching information and comments…lol.
Lots of people owe us residuals. Lots and lots.
I’ll be really surprised if a 10 paddle doesn’t get thrown. Especially from Carrie Ann and Bruno, they love an emotional 10 on most memorable year night.
Don’t know exactly where to post this but this was the first article I saw so it made sense (at least to me lol): happy Easter everyone!
On second thought, maybe at most 2 10’s will be given out for the whole night. Prob Nastia or Willow. I cant really see Riker’s tango or Rumer’s waltz getting 10’s. Could be wrong.
I starting to like Rumer actually. Its just Val I find off putting. She seems very poised and is a much better dancer than Janel, IMO. Im not rooting for her to win, but I actually wouldnt mind if she won. Its not her fault that the judges are pimping her. Haha,
I don’t know why DwtS US took soooooo long to reveal the songs of The weeks… Dwts AU and SCD do it since years ago…
@Carlos, I think DWTS US is AAALLLLLLLLLL about the surprise element, and TPTB think, or thought, that if they could control as many of the elements of the show and keep them a surprise, they could make sure more people will watch. Fortunately, our Fearless Leaders here are WAY too good, and much more intelligent than TPTB, and forced them into releasing songs early. Otherwise, I doubt they’d be releasing the songs. 🙂
Nastia and Derek up first… Hmmm… Didn’t see that one coming. Hopefully this doesn’t lead the judges to underscore her. I’m still sure their dance is gonna be awesome.
I had a feeling Michael would be first. Don’t know why.
My wild guess for the night is Willow or Noah close the show.
