Dancing With The Stars Live To Tour This Summer
Could this be the big announcement tonight? If you head to this link, you can see a new schedule for the new Dancing With The Stars Live Tour to take place this summer. Note how the dancers include Sasha Farber, Keo Motsepe, Peta Murgatroyd, Witney Carson, Val Chmerkovskiy, Emma Slater, Artem Chigvintsev, Jenna Johnson, Alan Bersten, Brittany Cherry, and all-star champion Melissa Rycroft. Keep watching the link as I bet they might be adding more cities soon. Thanks to #DWTSGossip for the find.
So, who plans to go?
ETA: Entertanment Eeekly has posted on the tour with a few more details and quotes from Val and Melissa.
“Every time I think I’ll never do this again they suck me back in!” said Rycroft, who has been a competitor twice on the show. The singer said she’s excited to travel by bus and “live like rock stars” with her husband and two children.
Those joining Rycroft on the tour include Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Witney Carson, Peta Murgatroyd, Artem Chigvintsev, Keo Motsepe, Emma Slater, Brittany Cherry, Alan Bersten, Jenna Johnson and Sasha Farber. The tour will incorporate both new choreography and popular numbers from the show into the live performances.
“The opportunity to go out on the road theater to theater and have the privilege to perform in front of our fans, getting to meet them and interact with them is an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Chmerkovskiy said.

They doing the tour at the wrong time. Going up against MOVE LIVE is like a mouse (dwtstour) going up against a powerful monster/beast (MOVELIVE) the mouse is gonna fail miserably
I feel like this solidifies Val getting the MBT this season. They are for sure going to want the champion and the tour. I’m a big Val fan, so I’m not trying to throw shade, but that was literally my first thought when I saw this.
I totally agree with you Josi. I have my tickets for MOVE! DWTS might have to eat crow going up against Move. Plus, people have already bought tickets for Move. DWTS is getting greedy. I bet their venues will be smaller than Move too. Saying they sold out like Move won’t be the same amount of tickets sold. But DWTS always uses smoke and mirrors.
They’re going to definitely give the trophy to Val. Sad. Derek and Julliane should sever all ties with DWTS
#Allie, I agree. I wrote this under the Big Announcement. Willow is too young and Mark’s not going. So far Allison’s not going and I can’t see Riker being interested in this kind of thing. Nastia is too busy as well, and we all know what Derek is doing. So, if Rumor is interested, just like Alfonso, I think she MIGHT have another advantage to winning. I really hate thinking they do things like this. Maybe there really are unicorns and I’m wrong.
#Josi, I agree.
Looks like Move and DWTS will play the same venues – at least in some cities. They are both at the Venitian in Las Vegas. It’ll be interesting to see which venues DWTS will play in New York and LA where Move are playing Radio City and the Nokia Theater.
I do think Move will be the “winner” of this – even with all the advertising ABC undoubtedly will throw behind the DWTS tour.
I agree, setting the stage for Val/Rumer win. Rumer will be the come back queen starting tonight. How very sad. Done with the show after this season. Of course,I am only watching this season as Derek came back.
Do they seriously think they can go up against the MOVE Live Tour, no competition, plus Mark’s not going. Nahh
Riker wouldn’t be able to go on this tour anyway he has his r5 tour this summer.
Dwts is putting alot of balls out trying to take down the houghs but like I said mouse is gonna fail to the powerful beast. Which tour is gonnabe playing radio city and other venues similar in size…. not dwts tour – they r no where close to playing those venues they never will be
Does it really matter if this tour isn’t playing as big of venues as Move? Can’t both tours exist? Why all the hate? Clearly Derek/Julianne love DWTS, so I just don’t get why some Hough fans hate DWTS so much.
This is my year to spend extravagantly on Mr. Hough – primo seats for RCMH and VIP seats for Move.
My budget couldn’t handle another dance show if I wanted it too… 😉
Everybody do me a favor and go take a 5-minute timeout to JUST BREATHE. This comments section seemed to go from zero to 60 awfully fast, with a lot of conclusions being jumped to and a deductive leaps being made.
Allie – please refrain from jumping to conclusions about the motivations of other posters, and stop with the word “hate” – that’s an exaggeration on your part. So far, all I’ve seen is people saying that they don’t think the DWTS tour will be able to compete with MOVE – I don’t really see that as “hate”, but actually kind of a valid argument. How many people do you think are able to afford tickets to both? Or both those tours, plus Sway and/or BWAT and/or Dance Pros Live? And I doubt anyone here HATES DWTS – the people that post here all watch the show, so…
I think there is room for all the tours since they all star someone different, but, touring two times out of the year seems to be a bit much. I don’t know?
Allie, if they use the tour as deal for Val to win, then there will be backlash. I don’t care for DWTS going on tour. I already got Move tickets, I didn’t go to DWTS tour last winter, nor will I go this summer. But what I found interesting was the top 3 pros last season all ended up on tour. They tried so hard to boost Val and Janel last season, that their motivations became crystal clear. Why should other couples even try, if Val’s win is predetermined.
Honestly I don’t see how this solidifies anything, it could but.. I am hoping I can go to this summer’s tour, I had all kinds of things going on last time!
They are getting greedy. Should have kept the tour as once a year to ensure maximum anticipation and sales. Saying that as long as people can afford it obviously surely no one will have a problem attending both MOVE & the DWTS live tour.
The biggest news about this is that it literally guarantees that Rumer and Val will probably win the season. Not a chance TPTB will let a pro dancer not on the tour win the trophy, ESPECIALLY Derek whose tour is going directly up against DWTS. Imagine how embarrassing that would look if the winning DWTS pro is headlining a show against his own employers after taking their gold mirrorball trophy.
Saying all that I think it’s good that dance is expanding as a whole. This summer their will now be two fantastic live tour shows to enjoy. I don’t see it as a slap in the face to MOVE, I see it as great news that two very successful past live tours are touring again this summer.
So many dance tours which is nice and each bring something different. Good point about the timing though. They are both longer running tours running around the same time. I don’t doubt the dwts tour will do fine. They are not at some of the bugger venues and hitting locations that I don’t think move or dancing pros went to either. I think Alfonso was a big draw and critical comments I read was wanting more celebs on the dwts tour. I don’t know if Melissa is as big of a draw. Her win is one the one I consider the asterisk win.
Sorry if “hate” is too strong a word, but that was my first thought after reading comments like “Derek and Julliane should sever all ties with DWTS” and “Done with the show after this season. Of course,I am only watching this season as Derek came back.”
So I guess it is a conclusion on my part, but a conclusion that is based on their own words.
My point is only that many people seem to be talking down about the DWTS tour because it’s going up against Move. Can’t both tours, which feature different people, coexist? Arguments that one might sell more tickets are valid, but comments like “Which tour is gonnabe playing radio city and other venues similar in size…. not dwts tour – they r no where close to playing those venues they never will be” just seem to unnecessary when both can be successful in different ways.
exactly M8, that’s my only problem with the DWTS tour, fixing Val’s win. I was wondering why suddenly Derek tweeted about MOVE today.
I think there’s room for multiple tours, but I don’t think they can all expect to be equally successful – that’s just economics. I think the supply of DWTS-related live tours probably exceeds the demand for such a show, and when that happens, only that shows that have the most to offer a particular viewer are going to be successful, especially when said individual is on a budget (like many of us are). I daresay most of the Derek fans are probably going to pour their money into MOVE; Chmerkovskiy fans will probably shell out for Sway, and maybe DWTS Live, if they can afford it; fans of the old school pros are probably more likely to buy tickets to shows like BWAT or Dance Pros. I think where DWTS Live is going to run into trouble is they’re kind of in an odd niche – they have current pros in their lineup, but I don’t know that they’re the most POPULAR current pros; and as for Rumer – I don’t know that she’s got the same broad-spectrum appeal that Alfonso had. And aside from Kym, Mark, and Val, most of the last DWTS tour was newer pros (Emma, Witney, Keo) and troupe members (Brittany, Sasha, etc.) – pros not as likely to pull in tons of people. On paper, I just think MOVE wins this one.
They should of just kept it as 1 tour and or no tour at all. The only reason why they started to tour again after how many seasons is because the dwts producers saw the success of move live and thought they could emulate that by bringing the dwts tour back … but they were mistaken, they were no were near the success of move. I feel embarrassed for them this tour… I’ll just leave it at that oh and dereks not really employed by dwts anymore he is mostly employed By msg and the Weinstein company. Harvey was the 1 that gave him the ok to do dwts this season
I agree that both can be successful in different ways. If I was at a place in my life where I could see shows I’d love to see both. I’d go to MOVE to see Derek and to Dwts to see Emma and Sasha. And I’d be sad that I missed the tour with Kym and Mark because for me, Peta and Artem don’t replace those 2.
I’m only assuming this will happen because the UK does this every year. SCD has a winter tour every year (very similar to the last DWTS tour). The tour cast gets announced about 1 month into the series and the couple that goes on to win SCD is always on tour without fail. If a celebrity cannot go on the tour they won’t win SCD. For example this past season, two of the best dancers couldn’t go on the SCD tour (Pixie Lott and Jake Wood). They were both part of “shocking eliminations” in the series. We have a dance off as well which makes it even easier to rig the result. I can only assume that TPTB on DWTS will want to do exactly the same.
Melissa fully agree with you about Alfonso. I think he was without question a big draw and Melissa Rycroft is underwhelming in comparison. I wonder if Rumer does end up winning whether she’ll come on the tour as well. I truly hope both shows are successful although deep down I can see empty seats on the DWTS tour. TPTB will then learn their lesson and keep it to just 1 tour a year for the future to maximise capacity crowds.
Could everyone please stop getting all worked up over how Val & Rumer going on tour somehow “fixes” this season for them to win? I just don’t see the incentive. If TPTB feel as though they need to “fix” this season for Rumer to win, then they probably don’t think she’s capable of winning on her own – and if she’s not capable of winning on her own, it’s probably because she’s not getting the votes; and if she’s not getting the votes (which costs nothing for viewers), what makes you think she’s going to somehow draw tons of viewers to shell out $$$ to come see her dance on tour??? Based on the talent this season, it’s probably a given that she’s going to make the finale – I think billing her as a finalist, at the very least, is relevant enough to put her on the tour. They’ve already got their champ – Melissa – why the hell do they need TWO champions???
josi, Derek’s still employed by DWTS – if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t be getting paid by them. I don’t care that Harvey “let him do the show” – he’s employed by both the show and Harvey. Please stop making misleading statements like that.
Sorry that’s what I ment lol I ment to say that he is employed my msg and harvey more so at the moment but is still employed by dwts sorry should of checked before I Sent it – my mistake
So true, Court. I’m going to see MLOT twice (and Madonna …twice I hope too). But, if DWTS Live, BWAT, and Dancing Pros Live come near me and I can afford it at the time, I’ll definitely think about going to those shows too as I love dancing in general, all of these shows are different and entertaining, and a good night of fun.
VIP packages…worth it, not worth it?!
Come on you guys…they have no interesting shutting down MOVE even if they could. They are out to make some cold hard cash off the backs of the pros with less favorable contracts and/or those who need work anyway. Do you KNOW how much money Derek and Julianne made off Move?? It is NOT chump change. Of course DWTS is going to want a piece of that. Their only mistake is going twice a year – their tours dried up years ago due to over exposure. But greed is greed.
And I would not count on DWTS doing a better job at advertising. MOVE posters are plastered all over Radio City Music Hall and NYSS is being see by thousands of tourists every week. Move is coming to Nashville and I’ve seen commercials for it right before DWTS the last two weeks. MOVE sold out in nearly every city last summer to rave reviews. It should have no problem selling now on word of mouth alone. Chill out.
The only people I feel for are the pros that have to go. Sure, they get paid, but they’re going to get a tiny fraction of what Derek and Julianne are pulling down by doing their own tour. They are probably contractually bound and might have been better paid elsewhere.
Becki, I didn’t go to the DWTS tour, but my understanding what that you couldn’t count on which pros you got in the meet and greet. It seemed like you either got Mark OR Val, not both – someone who went and got VIP can probably tell you more. I thought VIP on MOVE was worth it just for the private Q and A and Derek informing everyone he had a bag of ice in his pants. 🙂
PH, I dont worry a bit for MOVE. I think it’s ok for people to have more options on what they wish to attend. But don’t you think the organizers of DWTS tour would want their headlining pro to have a MBT? I don’t want the tour in any way impacting the show.
For the DWTS tour I feel like this is almost part 2 of it. There only going to a few of the same cities and states as the first time. Its almost all new locations. Im thinking there doing it again so people who are from Washington, Idaho,Virginia,Michigan, North Dakota, etc. who didnt get to see it the first time get a chance. I would love to go to the Dwts tour again but there not coming to my home state this time.
Kelly A, I was just noticing the same thing. They are mainly hitting cities they didn’t hit the last time….kind of like what BWAT and Dancing Pros Live does. ETA: Small venues too.
Thanks PH! 🙂 I had actually set aside money for a MOVE VIP, but no Minnesota (or road-tripable) stops. 🙁
But I am
a secret Melissa Rycroft fan. Guilty pleasure 🙂 So might be my consolation prize.
@Becki- I did VIP for both DWTS and MOVE in the past year and I would say that the DWTS VIP wasn’t worth it. There was probably a 45 second greeting and picture taking time for each group. I spoke quickly with a few pros but we were rushed along. The VIP did get us very close seats which were amazing, but if you have the chance to buy close seats or your own, I would do that instead. Seeing them up close was amazing, but the rest of it wasn’t worth the money. The gift they gave out was a travel mug and a magnet. I waited outside the theatre for the dancers after and that was much more worth my time.
Perhaps it wasn’t as great though because I had done the VIP for MOVE before that. With MOVE I got more time for picture taking (not a ton more, but still felt like more time) and the Q&A lasted a while (which didn’t exist at all on DWTS).
@Becki – I didn’t do DWTS or MOVE, but I would say that MOVE seems like the better deal as almost all of the VIP Nation packages are the same, regardless of what show you’re seeing: rushed group photo op, cheapy souvenir, and front-row (or close) seat. I’ve done VIP nation packages for 3 different concerts, and that was basically the same formula – none of them offered the Q&A session. I’d say that’s a bonus worth taking advantage of.
PH — Please clarify once again — My understanding is that TPTB can pimp til the cows come home, but they cannot “fix” a win.
I think Move also includes some sort of dance lesson thing with Derek and Julianne this tour as well. Or at least it mentions a dance instruction with my package. Not sure what that entails though.
Ananya, sure they do – but I don’t think any of them are stupid. Just blind sometimes. It’s a very slippery slope when you actually start rigging a competition for one person to win. Especially when your credibility is low to begin with. They came out of the gate pimping Val and Rumer HARD and then put the brakes on. I have to wonder how big the backlash really was – I don’t think they’ve been overly pimped since week 1. Possibly trying to create an arc for Rumer, but also possibly because they realized they overplayed their hand. (Besides, who said Val was the headliner?? Peta and Witney both have MBTs, as does Melissa).
I also tend to agree with Courtney and that’s what I’ve said before – there is no money in forcing someone to win instead of letting it happen organically. Not only do you risk your credibility, but you can’t sell tickets for someone who was pimped to a win. Do TPTB understand this? Probably. In any case, regardless of why they pimped so hard week 1, they have to be very, very careful with what they do. The safest thing is to take a more hands off approach and let the show play out because they’re pretty screwed any other way. Now, if Rumer worked for ABC, they’d continue pushing hard regardless – and they may still push hard because they need Val to happen. But I don’t think that has as much to do with a tour as it does building up Val for when Derek (and Mark) leave.
I also wager that people who like Val, Peta and Witney (and Melissa, Emma and the others) would go to see them whether they won or not. The problem that DWTS tour has is that I don’t think any of those pros (or Melissa) are the draw that Alfonso was. He was the STAR. I don’t think any of them have the strength to pull people to a show they way Derek and Julianne do.
And doing a DWTS tour twice a year is STUPID. And I’d say the same thing for Move if Derek and Jules ever got inclined (desperate) to do it twice a year. Luckily, both Derek and Julianne don’t have the time to do it twice a year.
Move this time also includes a “Private Dance Lesson” for those taking the upper level VIPs – which I suspect is really a Dance demonstration for the group of 20 that will be involved. But even so – a Q&A AND an up close demonstration from Derek and Julianne?? Odds are good that one or two women get to dance with Derek. Hell, I’ll pay good money to be within 10 feet of Derek when he’s showing someone how to dance. 🙂
I would agree, Suzy – but at times their level of pimping is practically akin to fixing the show. Meryl/Maks was out of control, but that was aided and abetted by a showmance. And, of course, her being a very recent gold medal Olympian is a huge help as well.
Wow people jumped to conclusions quickly. If you look at the poster you can see that the “celeb” they seem to be bringing with them is Melissa Rycroft…I do not see Rumer’s name on here anywhere. I do not get the “host” vibe from Rumer.
Heidi I agree with you big time regarding the pros, I feel sorry for them as well. I wonder how Sharna wriggled out of it, maybe something to do with that workshop she and her BF are putting on. I bet Brittany Cherry’s secretly gutted if she was planning to do MOVE again this year.
Wasn’t this started because ABC did not want current pros doing BWAT?
Wasn’t Val in this show last year, and if so, why it is a surprise this year? Two of those pros have MBTs already. I think fans of the show would enjoy this, but if someone wants to see Derek specifically, there’s a show for them as well. It’s not like Val is “featured”.
You have SWAY and these 2 shows so it sounds like the fans have 3 great choices.
You’ve got that way backwards, I’m sure, Jill. People don’t start tour just to prevent someone from doing something. They start tours to make MONEY. Obviously they were fine with BWAT for years…until they saw the huge success of MOVE. Then they started griping about BWAT…but only to get those pros to do their tour instead. But it’s all about money.
Brittany probably willingly traded a summer job with Move to be on TV with DWTS. Probably loved MOVE (clearly she did) – but for someone not already on TV, TV is more lucrative. AND once you’re on TV, you’re contractually obligated to the DWTS tour and off of MOVE.
But the other pros are stuck if they had bigger hopes. I think if some had a contract in place before DWTS decided on a second tour, they have an out.
The first post has been updated with quotes from Val and Melissa on the new tour for those interested.
Wait, Melissa Rycroft is a “singer” now? News to me.
I think it’s really interesting Kym Johnson isn’t on this second tour. My guess is because her contract was frozen prior to rejoining the tour she didn’t have a clause to cover the tours. It seems like a lot for the pros as it starts so early after the season
Well, the tour is coming to Fort Wayne IN at the end of July which is where I live. Does anyone know how much tickets usually run? If I go, I’m treating my sister as well. July will be the third year anniversary of her double lung transplant. Big Sis deserves to go.
Well how did Mark get out of doing the tour the second time? I noticed its all the same pro/troupe members besides Kym and Mark. I could see how Kym wouldn’t have to do it im guessing she was only signed to do this season of dwts, pluse with her judging gig in Australia but im guessing Mark is still under contract.
DWTS tour, not interested at all! I will be going to MOVE!!!!!!
I bet Mark has been on long enough to negotiate his contract much more favorably every season. Newer pros likely don’t have that ability, including Val.
@Susan2 – Born in Fort Wayne, lived there till I was 9 🙂
Courtney, I kid all the time about how boring Fort Wayne can be, where, if we don’t like you, we’ll beat the snot out of you with corn stalks and whatnot, but honestly FW is a great place to live.
@Susan2 – The zoo and Coney Island are both redeeming factors 🙂
DWTS Live just so happens to be closest to me ON my birthday. I took that as a sign. 🙂 Though I’d prefer to see Move, DWTS tickets are also significantly cheaper. No VIP, but decent seats and I’m quite looking forward to the show. 🙂
Purchased tickets today for myself and my sister for the Fort Wayne show. I have an art show in Noblesville early the next day that we have to drive to, so I’ll be tired but happy!
@Susan2 – I work in Noblesville 🙂
Small world!
