The Dancing Poetry Corner – The Chapters of Life

What is your Most Memorable year? If you would like to, please share. In my 63 years of life, there are so many memorable years. It is hard to pick just one, isn’t it? I could choose my wedding year, 1975, when I married Kenneth Troutman. I could choose 2001, the year he died from cancer. There are many years in between. There are many years in my earlier lfe. I will choose 1990 (December 27) when we found out Ken had prostate cancer. That was the beginning of time until his death that had a profound affect on us. And changed life as we knew it into dealing with our cancer journey. The dance that resonated the most with me was Robert and Kym’s Waltz dedicated to his Mother who lost her life from cancer. I would give something to be able to have a pro teach me a Waltz dedicated to Ken. The music I would choose is Swan Lake. Ken loved classical music especially Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and the 1812 Overture, which was his favorite piece of music. He played both over and over. He introduced me to classical music and I love it, too.

You know how you find an incredible book you can’t put down? You have to keep reading well into the wee hours of the morning. I didn’t want to put Dancing With the Stars down for The Most Memorable Year night. I wanted it to continue for hours! This night of dancing is special! The emotions flow out of every space of the ballroom! The stars bear their hearts and souls through dance. The stars depicted:

The Chapters of Life

The Ballroom was dripping with floods of emotion
Eyes were moist with tears dripping down our faces

Each chapter was told through movement of dance
Each step, each moment had a profound affect on us

We were taken into a book of life as the pages turned
Each journey a valiant display, bearing of hearts, souls Read more..

Suzanne Somers Blogs About Being “Chrissy Snow” Again on DWTS And More

Suzanne Somers writes of how much fun she had on Dancing With The Stars last night, but, she found their scores “discouraging” (awww, I loved their dance too). Here is more from People.

I thought I danced great. I wanted it to be joyous, that Chrissy Snow was dancing and having the time of her life. It was the combination of the character and fulfilling the intricate steps of the foxtrot. It took a lot of thought, but I didn’t find the dance to be very hard. Each week the steps get easier for me, which is encouraging.

I think the judges’ comments and scores [adding up to 28 out of 40] were not allowing for the fact that I am improving each week. I am not a dancer, and I am starting at ground zero every Tuesday and giving it my all. So I found their scores somewhat discouraging.

Next week is Disney week, and I am looking forward to dancing to “He’s a Tramp” from The Lady and the Tramp. I am hoping this week that I can wear a beautiful gown and morph into Marilyn Monroe.

More at People including her thoughts about playing Chrissy Snow again.

Robert Herjavec Writes On Dancing With The Stars Week 4, Starts Getting Ready For Disney Week Today

Robert Herjavec writes about his Waltz last night with Kym Johnson in his new blog at Entertainment Weekly. He can still see his mom dancing around their apartment. Lots more at the link. He also talks on Disney Week coming up in this take and answers some questions from fans…

Just when we nailed the frame and got our first 9s, it’s time to change things up. It’s Disney week, and we’re starting a brand new routine TODAY! A lot of people on Twitter want to know how we can possibly be ready to perform a dance live over a matter of days. The truth is—I have no idea! Kym is an excellent teacher and we train every day. It’s very hard—I’m spending at least 6 hours a day practicing. Then I watch footage back to understand where I’m making mistakes, and what the movement should look like.

Other questions from this week:

Which Shark should dance on Dancing with the Stars next season? Mark has been on the show before, and did quite well—so that tells me ANY of us can do it! Just kidding, Mark. I’d love to see Kevin step as far outside of his comfort zone as I have. It could be good for Mr. Wonderful to be judged.

Are you ready for the jive? Next to the rumba, I’ve been told that’s the most challenging dance because the foot action is so quick. I’m up for the challenge. It will be good to cut loose and pick up the pace.

Sharna Burgess Writes On Dancing With The Stars Season 20 Week 4

Sharna Burgess has written a new blog at Closer Weekly. This week turned out to have one of her favorite moments. Read below to see why….

This week turned out to be one of my favorite moments on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ While putting this routine together through the week, I really struggled to find choreography that I was happy with and that I felt was right for Noah’s story.

I always knew I wanted to use the mirror to emulate him transitioning from the man he was to accepting the man he is today, but finding the right way to tell his story had me stumped… until about Friday! After watching the dance back last night, I feel like we nailed it. Noah truly took his dancing to new levels.

I was super hard on him this week because I know what he is capable of and I wanted to push him for greatness. Between Noah having a sprained wrist AND the fact that I kicked one of his teeth out (OMG… so mortifying), he was such a trooper. He took in everything that I had taught him about bringing emotion and really delivered during Monday night’s performance.

More at Closer Weekly.

PureDWTS Season 20, Week 4 – Power Rankings

Well, after shedding more tears than I intended to last night, I’m left feeling a tad uncertain about how things are shaking out these season.  Though Michael left on a high note with his best dance yet, he still seemed to get underscored relative to some of the other couples, and it just kinda makes me resent the fact that the judges nitpicked him to death week after week.  Though he seemed like he was at peace with getting eliminated, I still can think of at least 3 other celebs that should have gotten sent him before he did.  But moving right along…

…Len seemed unusually disgruntled last night, and the only people he seemed to really gush about were Robert & Willow.  He’s still not too fond of Riker or Nastia, but he seems like he turned on Rumer a bit this week, too.  Julianne seemed to love just about everyone, but did kinda surprise me when she told Robert he had the best technique of the men this season – perhaps trying to draw attention away from #RikerNotADancer and his suspiciously good technique? Tuned out when Carrie Ann & Bruno spoke, so I can’t really say anything about them.  The big announcement that the cast is touring again this summer? Meh.  If they think Melissa’s gonna be as big a draw as Alfonso, god love them. Oh, and if you didn’t hear already – the switch-up is cancelled, and we don’t know why.  *shrug* No skin off my back.  Is it Disney week yet??? 😀 Read more..

Judge Len Goodman Talks With People After Dancing With The Stars

People interview Dancing With The Stars judge Len Goodman last night after the show. He talks of why he judges the way he does and why he likes tradition. More below and at the link.

“The show is becoming performance-driven. It’s all about the performance,” Goodman told PEOPLE exclusively after the show. “For me, that’s not what ballroom dancing is about. The waltz, next to the Viennese waltz, is the oldest dance of all. There is a tradition. When you think of the waltz, you think of elegance, sophistication, fluidity of movement. Sometimes I look at a dance and I have to check what dance it is, because it doesn’t look like what I think it should be.”

“It makes me chuckle,” he told PEOPLE. “If I was sitting in the audience and someone else was me, I would be booing along with them. It’s all a part of the fun.”

“Two things I try to be … I try to be myself and I try to be honest,” he added. “The bottom line is it’s got to be entertaining. I also try to enlighten the viewers as to what I want to see, and I try to educate the couples on where I want to see improvement. I got it right tonight, whether people booed or not.”

Dancing with the Stars Season 20, Week FIVE – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

So….the big question this week is….well, I don’t have a big question. TPTB are determined to spoil our fun and I’ve learned to accept it. For now. 🙂

For anyone looking for the Disney week song prediction post, go here.

hETA: I’m going to qualify Willow & Mark’s song by saying it’s just a gut instinct based on some partial intel – simply because I can’t see Mark passing up the chance to dress up like the Mad Hatter, and I think Willow would make the perfect Alice 🙂 Take it with a grain of salt…besides, if my spidey sense is correct, Rob should be leaking the entire list soon anyway, just to flip us the bird 😉

ETA2: According to an Afterbuzz TV interview, Sharna and Noah have a Fox Trot. ~Vogue

ETA2 and Correction: Suzanne and Tony have “He’s a Tramp” for their next dance song via her new blog.

ETA3: Updated with dances for Suzanne & Tony and Robert & Kim.

ETA4: Looks like there’s been some changes to the song lineup, and Rumer may have a different song and dance altogether – but I can’t get ahold of Deep Throat to confirm, so I would take this latest round of updates with a grain of salt.  Doing a bit of process of elimination over here…and apparently I have the title of Riker’s song wrong, but the one I had sounds about the same when you play them…hence my confusion…

ETA5: Courtney, good job!! ABC just posted all the songs. You were right on everything. ~Vogue

ETA6: Ok, confirmed with DT: Rumer has officially switched to samba, but the song is the same – possibly. 😉 This hasn’t been confirmed by DT, but I think Rumer might have the Jonas Brothers version of “Poor Unfortunate Souls”, which is actually pretty fun and campy…and has some semblence of a samba beat. Kinda makes me wonder if Val caught wind of everyone talking about Rumer being “one-note” and decided that it might behoove them to switch things up…regardless, DT thinks this change is “cooler and more interesting than a tango”.  😎
