TEAM NASTIA OMG. It was my dream team. I wanted them four together so much
TEAM NASTIA OMG. It was my dream team. I wanted them four together so much
Derek, Mark, Sharna AND Kym in the same team WOW WOW WOW. Possibly my fave team set up since Team Tango in season 14
This should be great! Do we know dance styles for teams yet?
Prob team freestyles like the last 3 seasons.
@margaret, most likely will be freestlye like the last 3 seasons.
Does anyone know how the teams were picked? Did Nastia get first? If so, I’m happily suprised she chose Willow first. As a whole, Nastia teams seems much stronger.
DITTO Nathan! Just what I hoped for as well!!! Team Nastia all the way for me in both Polls.
Team Nastia all the way! 🙂 I’m glad Noah is in Nastia’s team. I don’t want to sound rude, but Noah has his limitations and if someone knows how to cover them and make it work…it’s Derek. 🙂 And I mean…c’mon. Mark + Derek + Sharna together? Sounds amazing! 🙂
Although I think that both songs are a little…well, weird for a team dance. But if I have to choose, I prefer Rumer’s song.
I hope they do a live stream of the team rehearsals. That would be fun to watch! 😀
Ugh team Nastia would be unbelievably perfect if Riker is on her team, but I’m happy that Sharna is on her team! I wonder who got to pick first, is it Nastia? She got the highest cumulative scores after all.
Now I’m wondering if judges are going to go on with Vak’s season pimpage by giving unfair score to Rumer’s team…
I’m sorry it’s not even gonna be close. Nastia’s team has it in the bag. No idea how the picking went but Rumer boobed up getting both Chris and Patti.
To answer some questions I’m seeing…
The dances are both freestyles.
Nastia got to pick first, and she chose Willow. Rumer then chose Riker; Nastia then picked Robert; Rumer chose Patti; Nastia picked Noah; Rumer was left with Chris.
Rumer then got to pick the song (since Nastia got first pick on teammates).
Apparently Nastia & Derek were only at team dance rehearsal for an hour before they had to leave and catch a flight back to NYC. The team won’t practice again until Sat (and it will be sans Derek), and Derek won’t be back until next Mon. I’m predicting some Skype rehearsals for Team Nastia…
I’m sleepy…but God bless Deep Throat 🙂
wow TEAM NASTIA will be perfect. also wonder who picked first. Now I hope the judges won’t pimp Team Rumer just because of Val. Honestly, I’m afraid it may happen since they’ll of course be playing on the “Derek’s never lost” note and trying to break it – because it’s Val’s season. Hope I’m wrong. As for the song’s – I don’t like either of them, but it’ll depend on the choreo of course.
Hmmmm…should I use my powers of invisibility for good or for evil…
Courtney, I would say: God bless Deep Throat (please, send her/him a huge thank you) and all of you at PureDWTS for spoiling us so much week after week 🙂 Like I said, it’s early morning and we already know the teams, the songs, who got to pick first etc. THANK YOU! 🙂
Yay Courtney and Yay Pure!
Boo to those who steal your intel especially without giving credit, and very especially to those who steal it and trash talk.
I never thought of skype courtney. You’re a marvel! Still furious over carrie ann and the lip sync b.s!
Rumer should have picked Noah when she had the chance to be honest. Think going for Patti instead will cost them the win but meh at least they’ll have a fun practice. Thanks for the intel Court.
My ONLY concern about the team dance this year is that Derek really won’t be around to do his choreographic magic. But then with Mark, Sharna AND Kym there? Perhaps my concerns are misplaced… 😉
Love the Nastia team! Thank you SO much Courtney for this DT intel! You are the BEST! I wonder which song Derek would have picked if he had had first choice???
I find it interesting that apparently both teams went to rehearsal straight after the show last night when most of them have an entire week to rehearse. Was that so Nastia and Derek could get some practice time with their team?
Amanda, it’s not because of Derek and Nastia. They always have the first rehearsal straight after the show.
Thanks Tamara for that info. I don’t usually pay close attention to the team dances so I didn’t know they go to rehearse straight after the show. I thought that was only for the finale instant fusion dances in the past.
Evil.
@Lurker, I’m not even worried because I know Derek will find a way to make it work. He always does. He created their dance last night with the craziest schedule he & Nastia ever had, so I am not worried. 🙂
I believe they always have 4 hours after the show to rehearse the team dance. I think some rehearse during the week if they can fit it in their schedule . I think Derek’s team is the strongest can’t wait to watch on Monday.
While I agree with everyone saying that Nastia’s team is a powerhouse jam-packed with outstanding dancers and choreographers, I would like to point out that Rumer’s team isn’t completely disadvantaged considering the fact that the genre is freestyle which is in favor of Allison Holker who is exposed to a wide range of dance styles. Let’s not forget those dance routines Allison and Derek choreographed together which earned them the Emmy nominations. I would say it’s a pretty close fight between the two teams. =)
I’m intrigued to see what Allison can do as well. I think chorographically it’ll be strong if not just as strong as Derek’s team. The problem is they have the 2 clear weak links in Chris and Patti who will struggle with the synchronicity of a team dance. It’s not like last season where both teams had 1 real weak link, this season, one team has the two weak links of the show. Considering the judges always seem to favour synchronicity over individuals in a team dance, it just feels like an open and shut case. Add that to the fact that Derek is a creative genius, still can’t believe he made Michael Waltrip look great haha.
Key words being Allison “and Derek”.
I really want Riker to team up with Nastia. 🙁
@M8, good point… I didn’t watch the previous seasons, though, so I’m completely unaware of the judges’ preference in team dances. But I agree that Patti and Chris might weigh the production down. I’m also concerned about the song choice. It’s so… meh. I wonder who chose those two songs. I don’t like the rhythm of the song Trouble, seems pretty hard to dance to. And while Wipe Out is rhythmical, it is dull and stays on one level in terms of dynamics.
Voted Team Nastia in both polls.
You have four strong choreographers on her team. Each of them know how to make a visually appealing, fun dance. She picked exactly how I would have picked, if I were in her shoes.
The song picks for each team are really different. So different I can’t imagine how those two songs together wound up as the choices.
They cant make an Iggy Azalea song win twice in a row, cant they?
That Iggy song annoys me but I guess it could be fun. I actually love the way the teams ended up. My only minor complaint is that I was hoping that Team Nastia would get Riker and and Willow. Love how they chose Robert though so I’m happy with it.
Thanks for the Intel!
So Rumer had her choice between 68 year-old Patti and her knee, Chris I-can’t-dance and his calf, and Noah with his super-human strength and musicality, and she chose Patti? Big mistake.
I love Miss Patti, but she can only practice for about 15 and she has to rest and with 2 dances it’s gonna be rough. I just hope she doesn’t further injure her knee. This may have been more about Artem bring Fam..
Will Val let Allison take over choreography? Hmmmm… I doubt that 😉 Because you know, he and Rumer are team captains, not Allison and Riker.
Yay! Early intel! Wooohoo! You, mods, are the best!
Courtney, please extend my gratitude to Deep Throat. Good or evil? Evil! (with a sneer, stroking my imaginary goatee) Well, actually, whatever you decide, I’ll take it. With everything you do for us, I can’t be choosy. Thank you, Courtney, Princess H, Voguerista, John, Lori! You make DWTS seasons more exciting (and bearable) to watch!
I forgot to add ithat while Allison is great, she seems to have a hard time dumbing down the choreo. She made mistakes with Jonathsn last year and Riker’s dances are too fast and frantic for Patti snd Chris are not going to be able to handle. Witney’s has also had a hard time with Chris as well.
Tamara the last 2 seasons (the only ones I have watched) Val and Derek were on the same team and it was fine – great even. I still go back and watch Team Itsy Bitsy and Team Loca (dream team of Maks,Val, Mark, and Derek).
My feeling is reversed. I think Allison is going to have a hard time.
Yes, I just want to echo the gratitude to Court and the other mods, and Deep Throat for being so generous with info!!! You all great!!
God bless Nastia and Derek for picking the perfect team.
It remind me of Season 18 where not a single person on Derek’s team was “bad”.
Oh this is gonna be awesome. I can’t wait!!
Thanks for this info Vogue! I can’t believe you have all this for us so early in the morning! 🙂 BTW nice invisibility powers!!
I think that Nastia’s team is so much better!! The four pros are the best at choreography and the stars are all good too. The only thing that could come in their way is Derek not being there, but after this past week I’m starting to think that he also has superpowers and can do anything. I wish he would have stayed until today and at least make sure that the choreography and “idea” was fine. Regardless I think they definitely have the advantage.
Patti over NOah- not a good move. Especially considering that means Sharna over Artem. Sharna’s choreography is one of the best in the show.
Anyways this should be fun 🙂
Allison is great, but she overpowers even Riker at times so integrating two non-dancers will be her biggest challenge.
On the other hand, Derek, Sharna, and more recently Mark know what it takes to do that.
Anything can happen, but theoretically it’s a no brainier for me.
I voted for Team Nastia in both polls! I think her team as the advantage, even with Derek in New York! Rumer not picking Noah is surprising, he is much more musical.
*brainer*(sorry)
With regards to Derek being absent, here’s something to keep in mind: the teams only have two rehearsals together anyway, so it’s not like Derek would even be rehearsing with his team today if he were still in town. He’s also proven that he’s mastered the fine art of the “remote rehearsal” – critiquing Nastia’s rehearsals with Henroid/Sasha from afar. His being in NYC will have little, if any, impact on the team dance – but I would put money on it that he gets goaded by TPTB on camera to moan and wring his hands about being out-of-town. For drama’s sake, of course.
With regards to Allison – I don’t know that her being exposed to a bunch of dance styles is going to be much of a boon to Team Rumer. I don’t think it will HURT them – but considering that Mark & Derek (and to a lesser degree, Sharna) have proven that they have some skills when it comes to jazz & contemporary (as well as a high level of proficiency in ballroom, which Allison lacks)…I don’t know that it’s going to be a huge leg up for the other team to put all their eggs in one basket with Allison. I’m sure her input will be valued (maybe) – but it alone won’t win them the team dance.
My only explanation for Rumer picking Patti over Noah? Val wanting to be with his buddy Artem. But I think they’ve got a bit of a liability in both Patti and Chris – and I’m not sure that Val is as skilled at concealing weaknesses as Derek. I think back to how you barely noticed Mike clodding around in the background of Team Itsey Bitsey last season – but how Tommy’s shortcomings were woefully obvious on Team Creepy.
And thank you everyone for the kind words – glad you’re enjoying the spoilers. It will be entirely worth the 5 cups of coffee I will need to stay alert today 🙂
Val has not learned how to pick a song huh? Trouble is great, but has totally different appeal. Guess it will allow him to put Rumer in the exact same role he does every week.
If I were them, I would play off the video and make the ladies the prison guards and the men in “trouble”. I think you could play up Patty as the queen bee guard….let her show her rhythm and sass, and then dance around her a lot.
Almost forgot – the music. Keep in mind that next week’s theme is “Spring Break”, so I can totally understand why “Wipeout” is one of the team dance songs. I guess I can kinda see why “Trouble” is also, but I daresay “Wipeout” is more iconic and is likely going to be more relateable for the bulk of the audience. Plus the rhythm is pretty versatile – I once saw a pro dance to “Wipeout” where the couple did mambo, jive, samba, tango, & quickstep to it.
@Becki – In Val’s defense, I believe Rumer actually picked the song – and given her age, I’m pretty sure she saw Iggy Azalea and a band she’d never heard of (The Surfaris) and just went with what was familiar to her. Can’t state with confidence that she wasn’t coached by Val to pick a certain song, but with the speed at which they rushed everyone into rehearsal (only Suzanne & Tony did the press line last night), I don’t know that they necessarily had a ton of time to talk strategy.
#Jill L, yes, but my point was, that Val is now the team captain and usually team captain takes over the choreography or at least I got that feeling. Last year with Derek and Bethany, Val wasn’t the front runner in the team. Derek and Bethany were. But now he is. That’s why I’m curious if he will let Allison take over and do most of the choreography (I guess everyone assume that he will). That’s what I was trying to say 🙂
If I remember right, the pros are not there when the team or the music is picked -right?
It’s gone both ways, Jill L – sometimes the pros have been there during the picking, literally whispering in their celeb’s ear; other times, they haven’t even been allowed in the room (season 18 is a notable example). DT didn’t specify whether the pros were or weren’t this time, but because of the way he/she described who picked (“Nastia picked Willow”; “Rumer picked the song”), I would be willing to bet the pros weren’t involved in the picking.
Ok, I’m Team Nastia but Wipe Out-OMG confused!! Trouble on the other had is for sure a lot more fun to dance too. I can see Patti having a great time with that one.
Excited to see the results though. Could go either way!!
Thanks for the information so quickly.. You all rock!!! 🙂
I just want to echo everyone else and say thank you to all the mods for this site. It is my go to place during the season. I appreciate all the work you do.
Sorry for many posts, but new comments are popping up faster than I can type.
Tamera, Rumer’s pro has the most DWTS experience and I feel Allison would be wise to let Val do his thing. I think he would be better at working with choreo for Chris and Patti. She is going to have to chill out because I think only Riker can handle her choreo on that team.
I remember an interview with Chris and Alfonso and Chris ( or Alfonso?) said it was easier for him to watch the male dancer and learn from them. Chris may like Artems’s more gentle approach as well. If Chris and Patti are having a hard time now, Allison will have them in the corner in a fetal position sucking ther thumbs or in the ER.
Absolutely. Let Val do his thing. :::snicker::: That gets my vote.
Thanks Courtney for your insight on the song Wipeout. Now it makes a little more sense and I can now see how it could work in a ballroom setting 🙂
Funny but I also always think about the scene in Dirty Dancing when I hear this song-lol
I’m not sure if someone else has said this, but I think it’s worth thinking about whether people can pick up the choreo. I think that Allison could be better at helping Val branch out, and get more of a jazz choreo going, but I think it will be immensely difficult to get something together. Hypothetically, this dance is Nastia’s to lose, but who can say with TPTB’s desire for Val to go far.
The other good thing about having Noah on Nastia’s team is that there will be two pros who can deal with prosthetics. Having worked with Amy, Derek will be able to provide another angle for Sharna, which is good. I think that team will be immensely hard to beat.
Just saw a tweet from someone that Derek was on her plane an hour ago, so Derek was probably at the whole team rehearsal – provided that running his car out of gas didn’t slow him down. 🙂 Of course, turns out Julianne has been driving his car in his absence and he doesn’t look at the gauge.
Shirley also made it sound like he had a 6am flight to NYC.
I’m guessing Nastia had to fly out last night in order to make it to class this morning at NYU. I think the original plan may have been for them to fly back together – and maybe Derek switched to a later flight so he could choreograph the group parts?
Love Love Love Team Nastia! With Noah they can do amazing lifts! And Robert isn’t exactly a week link in spite of last night! I wonder if they will do the everyone on one team is in jeapordy thing that they normally do because then it would be pretty obvious who is going home lol! In the after dark videos Kym and Derek were having a pretty detailed conversation before he left! Honestly I think they will be fine, there are a ton of MBT between those pros and Sharna is amazing
PH he was in the paparazzi video leaving at midnight with Robert and Kym
Wow thanks soooo much for the intel. Love how the teams worked out. I am pulling for team Nastia all the way.
@ Courtney almost choked on my soda at “Henroid”. I think I will have a smile on my face all day. Thanks.
@PJ – The name for him seems apt, since he’s a pain in my ass anymore 😉
Thanks for the info Courtney. Really appreciate all the inside scoop. Nastia’s team obviously has a better set of pros. If they can utilize Noah properly, I see this being a really fun dance.
In case of Rumer, I feel neither Val nor Allison has shown to be capable of handling dancers with limited ability. I can see Chris and Patti sticking out like a sore thumb.
Definitely Team NASTIA all the way! I love all of ’em …Willow-Mark, Robert-Kym, Noah-Sharna…:)
But i think it would’ve been easier for both the team to work with Chris than Noah and Patti..right? I wonder why he was picked last? IMO, Nastia should’ve picked Chris over Noah, as i think choreographing for Noah will be more of a challenge than Chris..
I’m sure Derek will choreograph a great dance as always…i just hope there’s no pimping by the judges/TPTB for Val.
@DWTSFan, I think she picked the right people on her team. Chris cannot pick up choreography well and it’ll actually be more of a struggle. Derek’s worked with Amy before so he knows exactly how to work with Noah. Plus Sharna’s amazing too, can’t see what all the pros come up with.
DWTSFan, I am beginning to seriously question your eyesight – because Chris is TERRIBLE. Which is saying something, when Noah, who is down two limbs, and Patti, who barely moves, are both more adept at picking up choreography and are far better showmen. On top of that, I get the feeling that Chris doesn’t really want to even be there anymore – he seems pretty checked out. I’d rather have a less able-bodied contestant who is ready, willing, and eager to work hard to learn than an able-bodied one that doesn’t even want to be there. Chris is a toxic asset, at this point – the dude that’s consistently getting low scores and looks miserable while he’s doing it. Every season has a toxic asset during the team dance that nobody seems to want and is usually the last one picked – during season 18, it was Candace; during season 14, it was Roshon; there’s been many others, but those are the two that stick out in my head.
Wow, this is one of the more heavily-favored teams in terms of pros that I’ve ever seen. This should be interesting.
Hahaha Court – that’s one of my all-time favorite Chandler lines in Friends when those around him completely ignore what he’s saying.
Even with his disability Noah is the better dancer and gets better scores then Chris so it makes sense with just that to choose him. But Derek is also well practiced at choreographing for someone with challenges like Noah’s and Sharna will be there as well. It’s probably better for Noah that he is on Derek’s team as at least the pro captain has some past experience in this type of situation and will not be afraid to push a performance out of him. Between Sharna and Derek I think Noah will be an amazing asset to their team.
@Fig – You mean “Mrs. Chanandaler Bong”? 🙂
I really think Chris would have been better off with a different pro. He and Witney seem absolutely miserable together, and that’s not just going based on the video package but their body language and everything else. He is by far the greatest liability not only in terms of dance ability, but commitment and attitude.
Ugh, I’m disappointed Riker and Derek aren’t on the same team because watching them dance together would’ve been really cool. Based purely on talent, the odds are definitely in Team Nastia’s favor.
Mark worked with Amy during the switch up, do that’s 3 pros with experience working with amputees. Noah will be fantastic with all those pros!
I wish Redfoo/Emma and Michael/Peta were still around instead of Patti/Artem and Chris/Witney….now that might have made things more interesting.
Hi Lex #75
I think given a good team leader & choreographer, Miss Patti could be an asset. This is a freestyle so no pre required moves. She has class, charm and showmanship galore! She has great attitude and is willing to work. A routine could be built around her and showing reverence for her legendary status while actually showcasing the skills of other, younger team members.
But sadly, other than Artem, I don’t think that is the team for this.
I’m torn between the teams, but more excited to see what Team Nastia comes up with especially for Noah. Anyone else observe that with a lot of pains and injuries among the celebrities, Noah is so strong and healthy (despite his disabilities)? I think I need to go lift some weights later!
By the way, props to Artem! He obviously doesn’t have a contender for the mirror ball. Yet he appears to be making sure his celeb enjoys the experience and is showcased in a flattering light each week. A joy for Patti and her fans old and new.
I agree Colleen, I was really touched by the way Artem has been caring for Patti. It’s similar to Peta and Tommy last season. I think Artem just cemented his position as a pro this season, because I can see people warming up to him. Val needs a partner like that to shake off people’s perception of him being arrogant.
My dream team would have been Nastia, Riker and Willow. But I’m very happy with Team Nastia’s configuration. Mark, Derek, Sharna and Kym have all proven to be competent and versatile. On the other side…not so much. I think Artem can help Patti get by and maybe teach Chris a little, but while I think Val and Allison together might be able to come up with something interesting (esp Allison), I don’t imagine them being as great teachers as the pros on Team Nastia. Riker’s the only one who can keep up with Allison tbh. Not to mention Team Nastia pros definitely have more creative insight. I’m sure Derek and Nastia have figured out coast-to-coast rehearsals anyway, Noah is strong and musical and Robert is cute and brings energy, so I don’t see either of them as weak links.
I’m seeing a lot of people a tad disappointed that they won’t see Nastia, Riker, and Willow all on the same team. Just out of curiosity…what makes you think this would have even been a possibility? Granted, Val has made some pretty boneheaded picks in the past (hello, season 17 team dance), but I think he’s learned his lesson and isn’t completely stupid – Willow and Riker were bound to be the first two picks for the dances, because they’re the strongest dancers that aren’t already the team captains. Rumer/Val would have really had to pick somebody subpar in the first round of picks in order for Nastia, Willow, and Riker to end up on a team together. With there being such a strong divison between the top tier (Nastia, Rumer, Riker, Willow), the middle tier (Noah & Robert), and the bottom tier (Patti, Chris) this season, I think it was an obvious choice to snap up the strongest dancers first, then the middle tier, then the bottom tier…I think the only pick that threw a wrench into this was Rumer picking Patti over Noah.
Nastia went for the jugular! Best team ever!!!
I remember watching the end of a live stream weeks ago of Chris and Witneys. Artem came into the room (him and Patti were next on stream) and it felt like he taught Chris more in that 5 minutes than Witney had the whole session. I’ve seen someone mention above how Chris might fare better with male pros teaching him, so hopefully him and Val can help him as best they can. It’s his picking up of choreography which is the issue not to mention having a poor, inexperienced teacher as a pro. Patti picks up choreo fine but her slow movements etc will let her down in the team part of the dance. I could see maybe Val doing something similar to season 17 where Bill E felt like the showpiece of the dance.
Thanks for the info. Topic aside, why do I keep reading Henroid as hemorrhoid…Courtney, what’s up with you and human anatomy? (Vajanel)…lol…thanks for the good laugh.
Thank you Courtney for all the spoilers that you give us DWTS fans!! I really appreciate that you share all your little tidbits with us. =)
With that said…. Team Nastia ALL THE WAY!
I like Team Rumer’s song better ..as i have never heard of the Wipeout song before. But overall, Team Nastia is stronger than Team Rumer.
Hello..Derek, Mark, Kym, Sharna, Nastia, Willow, Robert, Noah ..all of ’em are exceptionally talented! 🙂
My team I chose:
Nastia & Derek
Who will win:
Nastia & Derek will no doubt be the best. (unless it’s a tie and Len is given the final decision (of course his pimping will kick in then)
I think Chris’s attitude is his handi-cap. He seems to be dwelling too much on disappointing himself, that he can’t see what capabilities he does have and let Witney use those strengths. I think Witney should have brought another pro who is not on the cast list, to work with Chris and give him some pointers since a male pro would be better to see how the male’s part in the dance works.
@Courtney #81
I agree with your comments on the picking of the two teams.
I think Derek & Mark & Sharna will work around Noah’s strengths (which is his powerful strength, timing) and use it and the other dancers to incorporate a dance that will blend him into the dance. We all know Derek’s is a genius at doing this and he hasn’t lost his touch. He just amazes me how busy he is yet manages to get everything done.
I think Wipeout is a much better choice for this team dance. It is a total classic and has the potential for being a really really fun spring break dance, especially with the creativity of Derek and Mark. I think they’ll have a much better time doing it, I think it’s much better suited, for example, for finding something “real” for Noah to do. I mean, total drum solos — are you kidding me? It’s going to be a blast.
Thanks for the early Team info!! I was really, really hoping that Noah and Sharna would end up with Nastia and Derek. I think that Noah can get to know Derek better and Derek may have some interesting Amy-type tips even though their mobility issues are not the same. Derek got so creative with Amy. Bring out that Emmy-deserving table prop routinie for Noah! Also, I think it will be fun for Sasha (I hope!) to get to be standing in during the next Team rehearsal. He brings so much fun and joy and energy!
A number of these comments seem to criticize Rumer for picking Patti instead of Noah because it was a strategic mistake. Don’t forget, these cast members all get to know each other & become good friends with each other. And, while we may watch this show thinking about competition and strategy, maybe the actual cast members view it more like summer camp…a chance to hang out with their new BFFs. It could just be that Rumer adores Miss Patti (who doesn’t?) & thinks it would be a blast to dance with her, to heck with the scores.
Or maybe a cast member campaigns to be on someone else’s team, kind of like what happens during the Switch-Up Week.
@PFQ – I will cut you some slack since it appears that you’re a first-time poster here, but I suggest you try to avoid taking the sanctimonious route here, telling people “Don’t forget, the cast is all friends, yadda yadda yadda”. We know; we’ve been doing this whole blogging thing for quite awhile. We also know that the picking of teams isn’t strictly based on who’s bff with who – there is some strategy involved. So while you’re not necessarily wrong – neither are we. Food for thought.
Then why are you even commenting, boo boo? 🙂
Yeah, jleam, think of a better contribution to the discussion next time or there won’t be a next time.
Lleam, why even participate then?
Court, time to get your “B*tch, your a fan” poster out. lol
It seems obvious Nastias team will win. Rumer should have definitely gone for Noah though!
Am I the only one who thinks Willow and Mark need to tone down the special effects a little? I love both of them and all of their performances , but I would really like to see a simple dance where there aren’t lots of pro dancers and an elaborate theme.
I, too, would like to see just Willow and Mark with no props or back-up pro dancers. I think she is very capable of doing a terrific dance. The first week was the only time they didn’t have any extra and danced the cha cha. I hope next week will be stripped down and we get to see what she can do on her own. I think she has much potential and sure has been giving it all she has and has a great attitude.
If anyone has some info about Rumer, how much dance training has she had? I had read something where she studied dance at a performing arts high school. Her arms especially are not the work of an amatuer. SHe seems very polished.
I understand wanting to see Willow and Mark just do a no-frills dance; I do too, but Willow and Mark have only had big production and extra dancers for 2 of their 5 dances. And I am inclined to not even count this week’s foxtrot towards them because most of the couples had big production/extra dancers/effects for Disney night.
As for her AT and Paso, while they had themes and colorful costumes, Mark made sure Willow was doing a lot of traditional content.
So, to me, I don’t feel like they have been going overboard at all. Also, it doesn’t seem so much different than what Mark was doing with Sadie last season where she also had a Week 1 basic Cha Cha, but then 3 weeks of themes…Week 2 Country-themed Jazz, Week 3 “UP” Viennese Waltz (with props and staging), Week 4 Duck Dynasty Samba (crazy costumes)…
@Gibroni
As far as I know, and what’s out there.
– she went to a performing arts high school for 1 year (idk what she focused in) then left
– she did a music theater camp, not sure how long that lasts…but kristyn burt mentioned she went to the same one
– Rumer says about 3 yrs ago, doing the ftr shows, really opened her up to dance
I could be missing something, but that’s what I remember off the top of my head
Hey guys, going to go ahead and unsticky this post from the front page – if you want to continue talking about the team dances, please feel free to do so here or at https://www.puredwts.com/2015/04/14/dancing-with-the-stars-season-20-week-six-whos-dancing-what-and-when/
Cali #99, I agree with you completely. I rewatched Willow’s foxtrot, and there was a lot less to the production than I even remember – most of the dance was just the two of them with the cards projected on the floor, and once the troupe came in it was just for a short bit, and although I didn’t *love* the card dancers, they didn’t bother me except for the costumes themselves – I didn’t like the helms.
I think these dances so far have been a good balance of production and content, at least for me.
Yes! Nastia did a fantastic job picking her team. I’m thrilled she went right for Willow and Mark and so happy that Noah and Sharna will be working with Derek. Riker and Derek together would have been amazing. However, Robert’s no slouch, and of the remaining female pros, Kym is the one I would want on the team.
“Wipeout” is a classic choice for a Spring Break theme. I’m just relieved Team Nastia is dancing to it–we won’t have to worry about all the guys showing up in Speedos! *shudder* Of course, the men on Team Nastia probably would make the Speedos look good. 😉 However, I think gaudy board shorts will be the more likely costume choice.
#91. Understood. My bad.
Eliza, she also does dancing with aerial silks. I do think she has had private lessons to prepare for the show and she has the money and her parent’s estates to do that under the radar. I just do not believe she picked up her dance moves as a result of “natural ability” . Obviously this is my opinion only.
I think team Nastia has stronger dancers and they have the best choreographer in Derek and Mark is good too. What I’m a little worried about is that Derek won’t be there to coach and change things if necessary. He doesn’t get there until Monday morning although Derek always seems to make everything work. I just hope he keeps his record it would be awful to lose when he really wasn’t there to be in control
No one will ever beat Derek’s record in the team dances, even if they lose tomorrow – it’s just not something to worry about. And even though I’m a Derek fan, I’m a bit perturbed by the notion that the Derek would have to tweak the team dance. Pretty sure he’s been involved all along via skype and conference call. Does he seem like the type to just leave himself out?? For that matter, do you really think that Mark, Sharna and Kym are incapable of putting together a good team dance?? I don’t. Now, if Val had taken charge, I’d be singing a different tune. 🙂
I agree PH, I was taken back a bit too by what seems like a dis to some very good pros. Also, Derek took both things on and he’s doing great but with almost anything in life there are costs to decisions. He isn’t in a position this year to be as intimately involved in camera blocking and production decisions as he typically is. He has to let go of some of the control. Even with technology so that he can be in frequent contact, there are still hours he’s on stage performing and life has to go on in LA as they get ready for Monday’s show.
Totally agree. There’s one annoying thing I’ve seen among Derek fans (not all, just some) and that’s the hand-wringing over NOTHING, sky-is-falling attitude at even the merest suggestion of anything that might not give Derek and his partner a perfect score – all of these unrealistic expectations AND an attitude that doesn’t just appreciate Derek’s accomplishments, but by proxy insult the other pros and their abilities.
Some of you guys may have seen the twitter fan that was blasting Mark for “changing Derek’s ideas because omg now they’re screwed”. As if Mark, Kym, and Sharna aren’t amazing choreographers in their own right, and that they’ll just disregard Derek’s input. Just silly.
Yeah I saw that, what a crazy! Too bad some of the craziest people can be the loudest and reflect poorly on the not crazies.
I saw it, Fig, and it pissed me off. Not just because it was insulting to the other pros, but because it showed a refusal to acknowledge that DEREK made this decision. He is the one in NYC, along with Nastia. As long as Nastia can learn the dance over the weekend (which she did) then Derek will be fine.
Really, Derek fans have an embarrassment of riches – Derek has done a movie, a broadway show, a sold out national tour, has 5 MBTs, an Emmy, is doing another nationwide tour that is selling out, has an HgTV show with Mark….this is INSANE. Absolutely insane. I think some of his fans just need to STFU and enjoy everything he’s doing. A freakin’ team dance on DWTS?? Big fucking deal.
Yes, it’s just a Team Dance for crying out loud!! Everything will be just fine, I have faith in everyone and they will do their best. I’ll take Derek any way I can get him, and Nastia, too. Their Tango is what I am looking forwarding to anyway. Enjoy the show everyone. It’s “Spring Break” some just need to take a chill pill.
There does seem to be – alongside the sky-is-falling mentality – a refusal to accept Derek as a human being. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good one and I think he’s got a great head on his shoulders, but still – just a man. He’s done a lot in his young life that he and his fans should be thrilled about and proud of. But that doesn’t make him infallible, or a god that deserves laurels thrown at his feet and virgins sacrificed in his name. Derek’s in NYC because he chose to be – and it’s a great thing, but it does come with some minor consequences for the show, and it seems that everyone is getting through it just fine. Nothing worth crying foul over. If Derek’s team loses the team dance? NBD.
Moreover, I’m sure that Derek is the kind of guy that would be absolutely against ANY kind of harassment of the other pros or contestants by his fans – especially the guy he calls brother.
I’ll just say this: there is nothing that makes me want to karate chop a Derek fan in the neck a la Miss Piggy (Hiiii-YAH!) more than sentences that starts with “I’m soooooo nervous/worried/scared/anxious/etc. for Derek & [insert partner here]!”
Once again, I reiterate: if you are a true fan through thick and thin and know what Derek was truly capable of, YOU WOULD NOT BE WRINGING YOUR HANDS LIKE A FOOL RIGHT NOW.
“I’m sooooooo nervous that Derek and BLANK are going to be eliminated, even though they have a perfect score and would need someone to get two million more votes than them”
“I’m soooooo anxious about Derek and BLANK’s routine tonight because on Instagram there was a picture of the camera blocking and it looked like she wasn’t pointing one of her toes and omg Len is going to dock them a point.”
“I’m soooooo scared that Derek and BLANK’s costumes aren’t the right shade of red to capture the theme of the song and it’ll just be RUINED.”
“I’m sooooo scared that Derek and BLANK’s flight is going to make them five minutes late to rehearsal and they’ll have to actually drink their coffee faster than normal and it’ll burn their tongue and then they’ll talk funny and no one will vote for them and then the WORLD ENDS.”
Hiiiii-YAH!
Lol…..I loooove Miss Piggy!! The ultimate DIVA! I’d love to see her on the show. You guys are fun. I REALLY needed to smile this morning. Thank you
LOL…exactly, Fig. It’s almost as if they NEED something to fret about, which boggles my mind.
Dancing the Foxtrot, Miss Piggy and her partner Mark Ballas 😛
Hahaha, now that kind of routine would make me pick up my phone and vote. And of course, no one would be more suitable than Mark (maybe Sasha).
I just watched the Muppets Quickstep with Karina and Aaron – again. I wish it wasn’t so short, but god I love it. She’s wearing pink for Miss Piggy, and he’s decked out in his Kermit-green Tux. So cute.
Now if they could throw Beaker in there, I might just die and go to heaven.
But yeah, ignoring the celebs for a minute, Team Wipeout might have got the 4 best current pros as far as team dances go. Derek has never lost in something like 8 or 10 team dances with good reason. Kym is a very clever choreographer and a great teacher, one of the most consistent pros in many respects. Sharna created absolute magic with Charlie White, and she’s doing the same with Noah; and Mark has become my new favourite pro, such a maverick with as unique a brain as Derek has but applied in a more overtly theatrical way. We know Derek and Mark work beautifully together, and I have absolutely no doubt Sharna and Kym have a lot to bring to the table, in particular some editing to protect Mark from his tendency to go nuts. Sidebar, I really want a really simple Willow/Mark Viennese Waltz next week, because I know they can pull it off and they should show it. Back to my main point, and by contrast, Val has obvious problems, possibly as much in his character as his talent, Artem was pretty much the Derek of the British version but hasn’t really delivered in the US in the way I’d have hoped, and much as I really like both Whitney and Alison, they have the least amount of experience, and the least amount of the right kind of experience, which might well hamper them. I like most of and respect the talent of all of the pros, but this may be the most uneven team matchup ever, including season 17.
I’m excited for tonight’s WIPEOUT Dance. The best thing that comes out of these TEAM dances, in a way, is that the Male Celebs can pick up a lot of pointers from Derek. Warren Sapp applied what he learned during the TEAM dance to his next individual dance. Derek took the time to work one-on-one with Maurice. The smart ones listen to Derek. Robert is one smart Sharkadoo!
