Will There Be An Elimination On Dancing With The Stars Season 20 Week 6?
Just a small and quick update: We’re not sure if there will be an elimination or not on Dancing With The Stars this next Monday? In rehearsals on DWTS All Access, Sharna Burgess reported there wouldn’t be an elimination. Noah Galloway also reported the same in a new interview with Men’s Health Magazine. Then last night at twitter, George Pennacchio tweeted there would be an elimination (via an ABC Press Release). I guess we’ll just have to wait and see?
ETA: Per our source, there IS an elimination Monday, but it’s just a regular, single elimination – and the double elim that was planned for later in the season has been cancelled. In other words – business as usual on Monday.
ETA2: According to Tom Bergeron, there will be a double elimination next week.
The only thing is is if there IS an elimination on Monday, and the double elim coming up, does that mean there’s only gonna be 3 couples in the finale like back in the day? Something to ponder on.
This surely does not help the couples at all. If the couples don’t think there will be an elimination but TPTB have one planned then it will be a shock to them on monday and then they go from no elimination relaxation to elimination stress. It might affect some couples. If that makes any sense.
@Tina – they haven’t confirmed anything but I’m thinking if there is an elimination next week then there is no double elimination. I think they’ll want 4 couples in the finals.
Something sounds fishy in DWTS land.
First the switch-up is cancelled, then no elimination week seven, now there possibly is an elimination.
Something else I’ve been wondering related to switch-up week is that in the past they’ve done non-ballroom dances that week. Things like hip-hop, bollywood and whatnot. So with switch-up cancelled are those non-ballroom dances off the table? I sincerely hope so.
I’d go with the most recent information is correct, until told otherwise. So *probably* an elimination, unless there was an error in the press release.
I tend to go with what a Sharna says seein how she works in the building. Why would she have incorrect info?
I swear either Tom or Erin mentioned an “upcoming double elimination” on the show Monday night. I know I heard it but I don’t think they gave any details.
And TPTB continue to manufacture drama (trying to unsettle the celebs or pique the viewers’ interest). On the other hand, maybe they have to keep changing their plans in order to get to whatever outcome they’re after–pimp Val to a win, get rid of Chris or Robert, or try to engineer a “shocking elimination” of Willow or Riker?? At this point I wonder if *they* even know what the he## they want.
Bottom line, just stop, already!!!! Say what you mean, mean what you say, and stick with it. *sheesh*
well considering on monday someone said that tom had said there was gonna be a switch up still…and now we know that’s not the case…there definitely seems to be a lack of communication going on.
Here’s my two cents 🙂 As someone that has had the privilege (or burden, depending on how you look at it) of seeing a bit of the planning that goes on behind the scenes, I can vouch for the fact that more often than not, TPTB are simply flying by the seat of their pants…so I’m actually doubting that this “is there or isn’t there an elim next week???” brouhaha is a calculated deception, and is more likely them just saying “Sooo…what are we going to do?” Case in point: the all-star season was a veritable cornucopia of changed plans, on-the-fly decisions, and hastily made-up resolutions. I think most of you would laugh your hindquarters off if you saw how many plans they had at the beginning of the season (live eliminations! trio dances with former DWTS celebs! viewers pick the songs! etc etc etc) that they ended up dropping or altering significantly as the season wore on. Granted, the election and Hurricane Sandy threw a big wrench into things (the latter basically rendered the plans for the live elim moot, since half the eastern seaboard had no electricity and couldn’t vote), but still – I’ve seen in other seasons, too, that they’ve kinda had to make things up as they went along. My guess is that they were originally planning to have NO elim in week 6, since it was to be switch week; but with switch week cancelled, they’re not sure if they want to stick with the original plan of no elim or try and break up the double elim that would have followed. If I were them, I’d go with the latter and have the elim next week – double elims can have unintended consequences (i.e. a popular couple who had an off-week getting swept up in the elim). But who knows – maybe they have a vested interest in keeping Chris & Patti around for another week, or maybe letting Robert get two weeks of points under his belt will keep him from falling into the double elim whirlpool.
I agree that it’s mostly a “what are we gonna do?” conundrum, rather than overt manipulation that dictates changes. But they’ve done it enough times, such as the Sean Avery and Karina surprise double elimination, or the winner-take-all cha-cha to save Chelsea, or the disregarded switch-up votes that I understand the folks that get suspicious.
@Fig – Now the Sean elim? I actually think that one was totally calculated – they moved the double elim up SEVERAL weeks on that one, for no obvious reason. I guess that’s what you get when you’re a cocky (sort-of) celeb that mouths off to a EP with nothing to lose (Conrad, who already knew he was leaving DWTS after season 18 wrapped). In this case, it’s more a matter of “Well…do we wanna wait and do a double, or just do one this week and one next week?” This one has more to do with logistics than strategy, I think. Deep Throat seems to think there WILL be an elimination this week – a single one. And then a single next week – but he/she won’t hang her hat on it, since the lines of communication behind-the-scenes aren’t the greatest – hence, the reason Sharna might have thought there wasn’t one.
^^ Don’t forget last season’s immunity week & dance off to save Janel. I’m still raw from that one.
Oh yeah, that’s what I meant – that it was most certainly a producer call to move up that double elimination for Sean Avery because of a power play (no pun intended). Which sucks because I think he could have lasted a few weeks longer, especially as more people learned to appreciate his humor. So when they do pull that on folks, it’s bound to make the fans suspect of even benign stuff like what this situation most likely is.
Oh, I think some of the eliminations and the winner-take-all stuff is in a different category from what Courtney was talking about and was definitely designed to protect a good dancer (in their opinion) from the audience of a not-as-good-dancer (in their opinion). I actually think that stuff is rather calculated. Really, there’s no other reason to do it than the drama and saving credibility along with good dancers. They’ve done it often enough that it seems obvious to me.
I wonder if TPTB are trying to get rid of Robert. The judges seemed extra harsh in their scores (seriously how did Chris score higher that Robert?) and they gave him a Jive this week (possibly trying to make it harder for him to make a comeback?). If there is an elimination next week, I kinda fear his chances of survival. I think he’d have a better shot of surviving the double elimination with two weeks of scores/votes.
Of course I don’t know why TPTB would want Robert gone. Maybe they see him as a threat to the Rumer/Nastia/Riker angle they were playing up last episode? Maybe they think the bachelor fans bring more ratings than the Shark Tank fans, so they want to save Chris? Maybe they want the ‘drama’ of a rather good dancer leaving before a, let’s be nice and say, ‘sub-par’ dancer?
I’d be shocked if they were trying to get rid of Robert – he’s ABC, they have been giving he and Kym the “showmance” treatment all season, and he seems to be a generally popular contestant.
Now if he’s suddenly threatening Rumer making the final four, then maaaybe. Otherwise I think they did him a favor by giving him the Jive this week, since it’s very likely that Chris is gone and there’s still other lesser dancers. Plus if he does well, then he has the “comeback” arc. I guess we’ll know more if he delivers on Monday and they are still way harsh.
I almost think they might be trying to…Robert and Kym might be threatening one of their top four they keep advertising. He dropped a massive 10 points from week to week all of a sudden, and the judges became unusually harsh so quickly. He isn’t even seperated by a point and instead by 3 which is around 13,000-14,000 votes (we will have to wait for the numbers post to be sure) having no elimination probably would have given him the chance to climb out of that whole. In spite of the big gap I think he might have the votes to stay.
I do wonder about Robert’s scores, not for this coming elimination but for the future. After Chris and Patti depart (I’ll be shocked if they are not the next two out) we’re down to 6 couples. Someone has to go home, and with Noah surely killing it in the votes I could certainly see Robert as the next man on the hitlist so to speak. PH had a strong suspicion that Willow was being protected by scores as well. I’ll be interested to see how that pans out in the coming weeks.
I’m not really worried about top 6 M8 I just want Chris to home this week more then anything. Robert and Kym rightfully should make top 6 (many preseason predictions had them going out first) and I hope they bounceback with their jive but I fear things may be working against them.
I did some “back of the envelope” tinkering based on the percentages. If my math is right, Tobert needs 10,600 more votes per million to get past Patti or Chris. Not insurmountable, but also not “a walk in the park”… Could be trouble.
Sally that is not an impossible number at all! I thought it would be higher! It’s definitely doable! This is what you have fans for, basically when this happens
Sally, after the low scores last week I bet the votes for Robert increased. I normally don’t vote for him and I did this week and I’ll sure I wasn’t the only one.
To bring up another previously mentioned topic, I want to believe that Willow isn’t being protected by scores. I love her and Mark together and they’ve already successfully navigated a very tricky twofer of AT followed by Paso in the first 3 weeks, two of my favourite dances but I imagine the only thing which might pose more of a problem for a 14 year-old would be Rumba, which Zendaya was saved from having to do. To be honest I was very swept up in her Contemporary and my reaction was mostly awestruck profanity (You’ll have to forgive me, I’m Scottish.) I loved it but to someone who’s not a fan of the Hunger Games it might miss the mark, no pun intended. Is it possible the judges over scored it to appease fans of the Hunger Games? Jeopardy that week, both she and Riker were in jeopardy and I’d much rather see him go home, because Allison is a less interesting choreographer and Riker and Allison make a far less likeable pair than Mark and Willow do in my opinion.
Interesting Note. Tom tweeted 2 hours ago : “Only a half percent of votes between this week’s bottom two couples! One couple leaves tonight. A DOUBLE elimination next week! @DancingABC” So apparently there is an elim tonight and a double next week. Hmmmmm.
Yes, somebody already mentioned it on another thread.
Tonight is a very tough luck elimination since it’s the last one where what you do this week doesn’t count. Pray it’s Chris.
