Dancing With The Stars Has Been Renewed For Another Season, 14.8 Million Viewers No Joke
Good news for our favorite show. Dancing With The Stars has been renewed for another season. Below is more from Entertainment Weekly including information on some other shows that have been renewed for another season.
Great news out of ABC: The network has renewed 10 dramas and six comedies.
On the drama side, Castle, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nashville, Once Upon a Time, Scandal, American Crime, Secrets and Lies and Marvel’s Agent Carter have all scored additional seasons.
As for the comedies, freshman fare black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat join The Goldbergs, The Middle, Modern Family and Galavant. Yes, Galavant.
On the alternative side, America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, Shark Tank, Beyond the Tank and 20/20 have all been renewed.
Below is a take from Hollywood Reporter talking about it’s ratings and why it has been renewed…
Dancing With the Stars
As fellow glossy reality flagships hemorrhage viewers, year to year, Dancing With the Stars’ decline has been more modest. It’s aging gracefully — and though it continues to run the chance of overexposure with those back-to-back runs in the fall and spring, 14.8 million viewers is no joke. The admittedly older-skewing two-hour competition, from BBC Worldwide, also averages a formidable 2.4 rating with adults 18-49. ABC opted to eighty-six the Tuesday results show two years ago. Fall will mark its 21st season.
I’m not surprised that DWTS ranked so high since this was their big 10 year anniversary and the celebration drew viewers. So in the fall they will have to figure out exciting, drama packed, suspenseful and different programs to draw the same rating.
Where the heck did the Hollywood Reporter get those inflated 14.8 million/2.4 demo numbers? The show barely broke 14 million for Week One and has been doing its usual decline since then, with a low last week of 12.43 million on Monday and 10.29 million on Tuesday. As for the 18-49 demo, the highest the show has had all season is 2.17, with a 1.9 for last week’s Monday show and a 1.4 for Tuesday’s show.
Hollywood Reporter is right. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/05/08/live-3-ratings-broadcast-top-25-the-big-bang-theory-wins-in-adults-18-49-ncis-tops-total-viewers-for-the-week-ending-may-3/401276/
That’s damn good for a 10 year old show AND it’s still in the top 10 for total viewers. THR is looking at the Live +3 numbers which is live plus same day DVR. This is a valid number in a day when huge numbers of people DVR watch over watching live. Flat live viewing is no longer relevant.
My three favs all renewed (dwts, secrets and lies, castle) so I’m a happy camper. Shame about forever though.
I’m happy it’s been renewed. I just found out American Idol is dead after next year (about time imo) and I do wonder how much longer DWTS can stick around for? I’m already worried about SYTYCD getting the ax soon! I guess we need to enjoy DWTS while it lasts!
Holy crap, American Idol is finally pulling the plug. I’ve never watched a single second of it, so I won’t miss the show. But its plummeting ratings really show how powerful DWTS remains despite being around for 10 years.
I’m gutted that idol is going to only be around for one more year. It’s like my pick me up show during the week becuase I’ve watched it for so long. If they ever cancel survivor I would only have one fav reality tv show.
I’m going to be sad too. I’ve been a fan since season 2.
Side note, and this is completely unrelated to dwts, but has anyone else watched the mark and Derek house flip show yet? It’s really good. Definately a keeper of a show.
@vogue: whose your pick to win this season? I’m sorta torn between Clark (great voice but sorta bland but I’m not sure about his marketability) and nick (killer voice, seems like a fun guy but a little chris daughtry-ish). I want to like jax but I am not sure how she outlasted tyanna or rayvon.
All season, I wanted Clark, but, the last two weeks he’s been bland like you wrote. So, now it’s between Nick and Jax (unless Clark can really come up with some killer performances tomorrow night putting him back in the ballgame).
The change to the big theater should be good for Clark becuase he knows how to work a crowd for sure. Just hope he sticks to the good stuff and avoids anything too left field.
I hope so. I like when Clark gets all bad a** like and let’s out those screams he does. Those are my fave kind of songs and performances from him. I really hope he steps things up.
My favs have to be “the trouble with love is” performance and the “takin it to the streets” one. Any other season he would win easily though.
