Allison Holker Says Her New Partner Could Do Really Well On Dancing With The Stars
Thanks to @DWTSgossip for this find! Allison Holker talked with the LA Times about the new season of Dancing With The Stars. She doesn’t tell us who her new partner is, but, she says she’s really enjoying him. Here is more….
“I really enjoy my partner. I think he could do really well on the show,” she raved. “There’s a lot of fight in me this season. I really hope that this year’s ours. We’re definitely going to get up in the finale and we’re going to win the Mirror Ball Trophy this year!”
One of the biggest challenges as a professional dancer on the show is the uncertainty of who your partner is.
“You have to grow a connection with this person. That is your first and foremost job before any of the dance steps before any of the choreography. You have to really understand this person that you’re creating all that beautiful work for and make sure that they feel comfortable,” said Holker.
The 27-year-old explained that one of the hardest parts of the show is to open up and be vulnerable with your partner.
“They become your friends. It’s not faking a friendship—it’s really being genuine and figuring out how you can really grow together as a team,” she said. “For me, you’re kind of a psychologist, you’re a trainer, you’re a mother to someone sometimes and you really take these people into your life.”

I love her spirit. I can’t wait to see what she does with her partner this season.
I love how positive she is and she sounds super excited, I wish we had a clue who her partner is! 🙂
I love Allison, and this makes me so excited to see who her partner is. As long as it’s not Nick Viall I’ll be happy! Thanks for the find, Vogue! 🙂
Hmmmm…I see. Can’t say I’m loving the “We’re going to the finals and we’re gonna win!” attitude this early in the season from any of the pros…and I’m a little weary of it coming from Allison in particular, because as a newer pro, I think she needs to grasp the value of the journey first before she starts really zeroing in on the MBT. Never once have I heard Derek, Emma, Peta, Sharna, Artem, or Tony say something like that so early on. It will happen with hard work and dedication, Allison – you don’t need to force it. Nothing wrong with wanting it – but I recommend not making it the focal point of your season.
That said – I can’t tell from this interview if she actually got someone legitimately good, or if she got a dud (or just someone that’s ok) and she’s just trying to talk her partner up to boost his confidence. Not gonna lie – I might be a tad peeved if she got another Riker this season, and we’ve got Emma struggling with the pissant teenager and Karina trying to minimize the height difference with Victor, or Lindsay just trying to adjust to being thrown into a pro spot after a 2.5 year absence and a mediocre first run.
Love her but she just had a Val or maks moment there. How about having fun and seeing where it goes and not so much pressure on this poor guy.
I wonder if TPTB are going to try to make Allison “happen” the way they’ve been determined to make Val happen?
Hopefully this is just Allison’s “all in 110%” personality talking.
Yeah she basically said the same thing last season also. That it only took Witney two seasons to win, that she was wanting to do it to. i’m all for thinking positively but it seems a bit too much for me .
She needs to slow her role with that MBT talk. I’ll all for positivity too and talking your partner up and keeping their spirits up, but yes, she did just have a Val/Maks moment.
I feel she is trying so hard to prove to everybody that she deserves a spot as pro just as much as the others do, even though everyone knows she’s not a ballroom dancer and you can clearly tell that when she dances.
If they are trying to make her “happen”, well, I just hope that’s not the case. Why do that in the first place? All of the other female pros are amazing and they get recognized and gain fans without having to do the whole “making her happen” thing.
And we will just have to wait and see what she can do with Andy this season. Court, I’ll be peeved too if she gets someone who’s like a Riker this season. Girl can’t have it easy all the time! Yes, I am aware her first season was sucky…probably because her partner was not a natural dancer. Combine that with her minimal knowledge in ballroom…
As “sucky” as Allison’s fans like to claim her first season was, Jonathan was nowhere near being terrible. He was actually halfway ok – love how revisionist history is painting him as this terrible partner. Her fans can bitch & moan after she’s had a Bill Engvall, Billy Dee Williams, Metta World Peace, Tavis Smiley, or Keyshawn Johnson.
Gettin’ REAL tired of having non-ballroom dancers jammed down my throat on this show…
I’ve actually been okay with a mix of non-ballroom dancers and traditional technicians. I think Derek was the one who recommended Tyne, Allison, and now Haley? Maybe he sees the writing on the wall for what the show is becoming and needs to embrace to avoid being labeled as stale (not what I think of the show, just maybe other people’s perception).
Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE me some beautiful Karina dancing and I think she’s a great example of a classically-trained pro that has been mostly able to adapt and expand her repertoire, but I also don’t have a problem with the inclusion of jazz and contemporary dancers adding to their mix, if they prove capable of producing, teaching, and choreographing entertaining routines. This season may reveal a lot in how Allison does, but I’m looking forward to seeing what she can come with. Just my feelings on it.
I’m sorry, but Allison has a LONG, LONG way to go before she ventures into Val/Maks territory. That’s some hyperbole right there.
I also don’t see them trying to make her “happen”. Andy is in no way a ringer. At all. He doesn’t fit any of the criteria, unlike the vast majority of Val’s partners.
What I saw was Peta needing surgery, so a massive shuffle was required. It HAPPENS.
I honestly don’t think Allison was going to have Alek anyway – I think she was waiting for a partner, Andy became available because of Peta’s injury, the stopped talking to whomever they were chatting with about Allison, and brought in Alek for Lindsay.
I agree that Andy is by no means someone that I would label a ringer, except I expect him to have at least reasonable musicality. He could be a Gavin DeGraw for all we know.
Personally, I think Allison’s energy is best served by someone that can keep up, anyway. While it’d be an interesting “challenge” to see a different type of person, I don’t think that it’d make for a necessarily enjoyable partnership. Not that I don’t look forward to the day when she can show another side of her – but I also don’t begrudge anyone for trying to create a well-meshed partnership.
I’m sorry but I think if any of the other pro women would have said something like that, it would be considered as arrogant.
To me it comes across like anything but humble and not showing a lot of respect to long time pros.
It’s not like she or for example Whitney had partners who were really terrible, at least Chris Soules and Jonathan where young and physically capable, just look at how many steps Jonathan did while dancing with Peta for switchup week.
Give them a Tommy Chong, Steve Wozniak, David Hasselhof, Billy Dee Williams, Carson Kressley, Wayne Newton, D.L Hughley etc.
I’m sick of watching pros pretending to do ballroom when they just spin around and call it something new and fresh.
I’m happy Anna is back, maybe we see some quality pro numbers without ass-shaking and just dipping.
Where did anyone claim that what Allison said wasn’t arrogant, artdeco?? You make it sound like you’re offended that people might be willing to cut her a bit of slack. After all, she doesn’t exactly have a history of arrogance like some of the male pros do – is that okay with you?? Seriously, we cut lots of pros lots of slack (and posters too, for that matter) when they don’t have a history of that sort of behavior – Allison just doesn’t have a history that makes me start calling her names. Now, if she continues in that manner, we can talk.
But let me ask you this. Where were you when Val was doing his (standard) arrogance laden behavior regarding a second MBT?? That that piss you off as much as Allison’s (one) comment did?? I have to ask, because we’ve been having this discussion around here about the double standards for men and for women. This subject OFTEN falls into the same category. Women say that, they’re an arrogant bitch. A man says it and he’s “just confident and wants to win again”. Yes, we did have people excuse Val in that manner.
What does Anna have to do with the quality of the pro numbers? Blame Mandy Moore for those – not our female pros.
+1 to Miss Heidi!
@ Princess Heidi
Well it wasn’t the first comment Allison made, she did a similar thing last season.
I did not comment on Val and the Fam cause there are a lot of people already stating the wrong and yes Val pisses me of even more. I always have to press mute when hi talks because of all the b***it coming out of his mouth.
Talking about double standards, I think it would be fair if next season they bring in some young male let’s say Hip Hop, Contemporary or Ballett dance, whith somewhat of a name in the industry and high energy, get rid of one of the Ballroom guys (Val), and give the new one a young good looking celebrity who has experience in latin or ballroom.
I’m sure Mark and Derek will do just fine with some 70 year old lady with no dance experience at all.
+100 @Heidi.
Very well said. I agree to all that you said!
Wow, so she’s said it twice now. What a horrible human being. Sorry, I just don’t get the same vibe from Allison that I do from Val or his brother.
As for the young male – yes we will see if people complain then. Val’s fans will be first in line, I’m sure. You pretty much describe tWitch, so I wouldn’t be so quick to be snarky. But where you go hugely wrong is comparing Val (and Mark and Derek) with a female pro who lost her spot in favor of Allison. Who would that be exactly?? Oh Brittany? Sorry – she’s not a name, neither is Jenna nor Anna for that matter. Cold harsh reality of Hollywood. As much as I can’t stand Val, you can’t compare him with those particular ladies. I’m not a fan of the contemporary shift on DWTS any more than most people. But unlike some, I’m not blaming Allison for it. She was offered a job and she took it. Why on earth wouldn’t she?? Pros get replaced all the time for LOTS of reasons – it’s Hollywood. Looks, attitude, marketability and so on.
As for your commentary on Mark and Derek – old and tired, lots of great reasons why it won’t ever happen. See above for some examples. But yes, they would do far better than Val, to name one.
I never said she behaves like Val or the Fam but she is the only one out of the female dancers who ever said something like that.
I also didn’t even mention Jenna, Anna or Brittany those are your assumptions, i did not compare Val with anyone nor did I blame Allison for taking a job.
What I was trying to say is that I don’t get why Allison get’s so much praise and that to me the way she is talking comes across as arrogant.
Just my opinion.
