Watch The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Launch Show Today, PureDWTS Message From Tristan MacManus
For the “Strictly Come Dancing” fans, are you ready for the Launch Show today? I’m excited to say the least as this will be my first time. It’s going to be so fun to see Gleb Savchenko and Tristan MacManus again. In case you haven’t read it yet, Gleb wrote to us on his thoughts on London and the show in this previous post. We wrote to Tristan too and here’s what he had to say about the show and being back….
Tristan to PureDWTS: Hi Lisa, thank you. Things are great. I love being back in London and really excited about the upcoming season. All the partners get revealed today, so, we won’t actually start rehearsing until after the weekend. But, as always, I’m really happy with my partner and łooking forward to getting going- we have a great bunch of celebs this year and I think the audience are going to love the show as much as we are.
I think we will too!! Yay!
So, here’s to the show. Below are the times again and a few links for where you can watch it online:

I’m so glad it’s Strictly time! What a treat to have Tristan back!! And this season, Gleb to boot! It couldn’t have turned out better, from the sad days when they both left DWTS, to happy days again with them on the flagship BBC Worldwide original from fabulous London. I’ve always liked the way they do things on Strictly better than DWTS. Hope it’s a great season – I’m sure it will be – I love the cast !!
Loved it !
It is my first season of Strictly but I really enjoyed this Launch Show, what can’t we have something similar in France.
Plus I like the cast.
lol – I loved Claudia’s comment about Gleb and his looks: “I can’t look at his face either. I’m not even gonna ask him any questions. You have done enough!” 🙂
As for his and Tristan’s partners: I don’t really know Anita, but I’m a little familiar with Jamelia. She has come across as somewhat annoying to me in the past, but she seemed fine on tonights show. So hopefully she will stay that way.
I think both Gleb and Tristan will do fairly well this season. But if I had to make a guess about the winner now – I’d say it’ll be Peter Andre. He’s kinda Strictlys equivalent to Nick Carter in my opinion.
On a related note – I’m SO happy that Anton has finally gotten a celeb that he might be able to go far with. 🙂
I agree Miss Pompon. I wish they’d do a launch show like that in the States too.
LOL Gitte to your first sentence. So cute!!
I hope they do well too. I was glad to see Tristan get someone younger finally. I already like their “lines” together for just the little we saw.
I have very high hopes for Jamelia and Anita! I think they both are gonna do great. Hopefully we finally get to see some awesome choreography from Tristan. Officially on their team! But also, of course, very much on Team Gleb and Anita. She looks like she’s gonna be a very elegant dancer and I can’t wait to see her do ballroom.
Sad I missed the Launch Show but thanks for the clips! 🙂
I love Claudia.
If I could put together the perfect hosting team it would be Tom and Claudia 🙂
And I agree – I would love to see DWTS do a launch show as well. It’s great to see the reactions of both the celebs and the pros when the pairings are announced.
The downside is that TPTB would be able to see the natural abilities of the celebs and make up pairings based on that.
I really appreciated being able to see the videos, could not get link to work. I have it ready by showtime. I really liked the Launch Party….what fun. Again, we are seeing a few things that are missing in DWTS. I am going to enjoy this show. So happy Gleb and Tristan got good partners. Too bad we cannot vote. They both looked very happy….lucky girls.
Until September 26th, we will anxiously await to watch.
I have REALLY disliked some of the things Jamelia has said on panel shows where she tends to come off as an ignorant loudmouth, but I love her music and she should be good. I was worried Tristan would get screwed again.
Anita is a sweetheart and might well have some talent. I think she’s likely to be better at ballroom with her natural quiet grace, but either way I’m very excited to see her and she and Gleb are my favourite couple so far.
Feel strangely proud of the UK this evening. Normally feel that Strictly can seem a bit down market compared to DWTS, but thought that the show embraced its true camp-ness and sparkled amazingly tonight.
The awful acting in the intro was endearing – I love the idea of spontaneous dancing in the streets – and the sun was shining (very not the UK this summer!) One thing we do well over here is allowing our pro dancers to actually dance – they do a group routine to start every results show and this opener went on for quite a while!
Also love our two female presenters – its still such a relief that Bruce (who presented up until two seasons ago) has gone. Tess stills can be a bit formulaic but is much happier reading the autocue, and Claudia steals the show – loved her comments about Gleb! I agree with Gitte – Tom and Claudia would be a blast!
In all honesty in terms of fame, these celebs are not exactly A-List: Peter Andre is probably the biggest known and he is best known for his awful ex-wife and their reality show and a pop song where he had crazy amazing abs 20 years ago! That having been said, I thought they seemed a fun bunch. I love the launch show – you can see the pros crossing their fingers not to get certain people and already see who genuinely seems happy to be together! By the time we see the couples in the US, they have put on their ‘game’ faces!
The big story in the UK is that Anton (who always gets the ‘jokey’ or fun candidates) has got someone with a bit of potential (Katie – older but with amazing legs and rhythm). It will be interesting to see if his choreography will actually accommodate someone with ability as his routines generally play it for laughs. Funnily, while he is thrilled, his partner is reported in the press to be less than enamoured as it implies she is not a contender, whereas I thought she showed some promise in the final group chaos (ahem – dance)!
As to the two pro American pro-dancers – Tristan clearly won some friends last year, because Jamelia seems one of the top women in terms of ability. She is a bit marmite in terms of personality so we’ll see how she comes across, but Tristan is charming so he might help her on that score. Gleb appears to have done well for his first season. Anita is not terribly well known, but is attractive and seems to have some potential. Not sure she has the juice to go the whole season, but we will see. They certainly seem to have decided that Gleb is the new eye candy! Not sure how thrilled he is with that, but he seemed to enjoy the launch show on the whole!
We have a programme in the UK which is on every weekday evening where each couple comes on and talks about the last week and previews the next week’s dance(s) as well as doing silly VTs. It isn’t a massive audience, but is the Strictly die hards and probably most likely those who will vote in the very limited time window – so is a good to stand out and be fun! It certainly adds to the viewing experience and can give a clearer insight into which couples really get on or don’t get on – its harder to fake then than on the Saturday shows.
As to the others, think Peter Andre is pretty much guaranteed a final spot (though he is reportedly completely over-analysing every step and very critical when anything goes wrong, so will need to show he is enjoying the experience.) Thought that Ainsley looked a blast and Natalie has won me over recently so hope that they last a while. Ola looked less than enamoured with the Iwan, but as a successful sportsman he has potential and she could whip him into shape if she puts her mind to it. Georgia and Helen both have dance experience so should be good, and new girl Ote also lucked out!
All goes quiet here now until the launch weekend in three weeks so I shall now concentrate on the DWTS launch, but look forward to discussing the show with you all.
Anton got a good one and pasha didn’t…..still am shocked. Brendan’s partner is kinda my fav though….she is super gorgeous.
Hit submit too quickly: Jeremy and Karen are adorable together. I’m all for that pairing.
I found myself totally enamoured by Otile and praying, when it was down to 3, she wasn’t getting Daniel. I think she and Antony are a great couple, as are almost all the male celebrity couples. The only shock for me was Ola getting Iwan and Natalie Ainsley. I was sure they were going the other way. I’m getting to like Ainsley, but how good will he be at dancing? I’m not sure, so I thought Ola would get him, and Iwan and Natalie, the two statuesque blondes could have been great together. Instead Natalie gets another “personality” although one who may have potential, and Ola kind of looks like an ungrateful bitch. That was one tight smile she had after being called, and Iwan is easily one of the top contenders in my head. Maybe she knows something we don’t?
On the women, I am thrilled that the token Scot didn’t get lumbered with Anton again, and who knows what Pasha can do with her? I noticed that there were no real obvious no-hopers this season, and Anton is the most old-fashioned pro, so why not put him with the classical music presenter? Georgia and Giovanni seem an appropriate match and all I’ll say on Kellie and Kevin is that it is perhaps no coincidence that series 11 (the only series to date not starring at least one EastEnders cast member) was my favourite by a long shot. Finally, for me the most exciting pairing, Kirsty and Brendan. Kirsty is crazy competitive, as is Brendan, so one way or another there will be fireworks from those two. They may not be my favourite couple but for now that’s where I’d put my money.
So glad you all are enjoying the show. I’m still all so new to this.
Also, for those interested: see the first post for video updates and more is coming later.
THANKS, ALL!! This is fun! Can’t wait until the 26th!
Ahhh.. Nothing better than my morning coffee sweetened with a bit of Gleb and a bit of Tristan. 🙂
I think Gleb is more handsome now than he was before. Life must be treating him well. And Tristan my cute little leprechaun is precious as always.
I love this new segment. Thanks Vogue!
Didn’t I tell you that the launch show was a good thing, It really sets the series off to a good start. In regards to the pairings I do agree with all of them, I wish Natalie Lowe was with someone else as she needs to go far. The returning champion dance was good but a tad slower than the Salsa that earned 40 points last year. My early tip to win are Peter and Janette, she knows how to choreograph to the TV coming from SYTYCD you do get a feel as to how stage dancing should be. I think Kellie could do well, also Jamelia, Helen, Georgia and Kirsty, Katie was no too shabby either. Anthony could do well for the men as well as Ian and Jay.
The “New Dancer” inro was BRILLIANT. We at Strictly know how to introduce new blood to the show, not a shoddy made piece in Breakfast TV. Yes DWTS that WAS a read. In fact the whole launch show put the GMA piece on the 2nd to SHAME. THAT is how you launch a series. The music guests were fantastic, showing fantastic latin and Ballroom dance.
The top of the show piece was also fantastic with the train, to red carpet and then to the Ballroom.
So as Tess and Claudia say at the end of every show.
KEEEEEEP DANCING
Full Blog to come in the week.
Next stop Week 1
Friday 25th September.
I really liked Katie as a celebrity, I thought that, during the group dance, she moved very well.
I reluctantly agree on Peter and Janette. He’s the biggest “star,” even if he is just as infamous as famous, and likely a good dancer. I hate him myself, but given how I went from absolutely hating Mark Wright to rooting for him, I guess we’ll see. Honestly Caroline’s Salsa lacked energy for me, but it was good enough. I’m far more amused by her “best show on TV” comments while she’s presenting its biggest rival. Ballsy or stupid, I don’t know, but she’s right. I’m interested in if she’s gonna lose her X Factor job over it. I hope not.
I youtubed a lot of the contestants today and I’m sorta loving Daniel lol. He just seems to have a lot of fun out there performing and his voice is really good. Jamelia was another surprise. As much as she annoyed me in the stuff I saw from her in the view-like show, her music is super catchy. Kellie is a good actress. Kevin better use that to his advantage. But by far, the chef is my favorite now. He is just a hoot.
Daniel O’Donnell is the old-person vote. He’s fine, but very dated. I can’t bring myself to care about another EastEnder. She’s the 13th in as many series and if you don’t watch the show it’s like, who cares? As I’ve said above, I hate Jamelia’s personality (although I think Strictly may put her across better) but her music is really good. I suspect we may see her Cha-Cha to her biggest hit Superstar in Week 1, but my favourite song of hers, which I’ve wanted on the show for years, is Beware of the Dog, one of many many many covers of/ riffs on Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus. Mel B used Personal Jesus for her Tango in season 5 of DWTS and Beware of the Dog would be a great Tango, or an even better Paso Doble, so that’s what I’m hoping to see. I genuinely have no idea who’s going to be bad in this cast, and while it’s light on major stars and people I like, I think the overall talent level may be the best ever. I’ve suddenly gone from apathy to major excitement. Such is the power of the launch show.
Daniel sorta reminds me of Wayne Newton…..is he the British Wayne Newton? The only contestant I haven youtubed yet it’s the go call the midwife actress….mostly because she reminds me of Allison from America’s next top model lol.
Aww, so glad we spiced up your morning coffee just right, Sandy!! And YW!! This is going to be so fun!!
lol Vin, I kept thinking of Liberace when I saw Daniel.
@Vin Was Allison the quirky alien one with the gorgeous big eyes from All Stars? If so then I sorta see your point in her looks, but I think she’s more that sort of “jolly hockey sticks” English middle class actress from an expensive stage school (said with the cynicism of someone trying to do the same without the same advantages.) I think she may be popular but unlikely to translate across the Atlantic.
Daniel O’Donnell doesn’t do as much live as Wayne Newton, I think he’s more about the albums, and he’s a very very specific style. It’s always Irish folk with strong religious undertones. I don’t know him that well, because as you’d expect he’s a much older demographic than I fit into, but you see him around.
That’s the one Mr. A! I can oddly see the Liberace thing too Vogue lol.
LO Vin. Oh good.
I have my money set on Jay McGuiness as one of the “bad dancers” of the group. The guy looked terrified during the launch show (which I was able to watch fully on YouTube today.. yay!). He also looked quite stiff during the celebrities’ dance. I feel the nerves might get to him.
My favorite couple at the moment is Jamelia and Tristan. I loved his expression when he got her as partner. You can tell he is excited to be paired with someone young after years of having the older celebrities. I don’t know about her personality yet but hopefully she’ll be fun to watch.
My other favorites based on just their interaction as partners are Ainsley & Natalie, Anita & Gleb, Iwan & Ola, Anthony & Oti (pretty sure he was doing some major flirting with her already) and Katie & Anton (i’m shocked).
I also have to say, big props to Strictly because man do they go all out with the launch show.
@CC NY You may be right about Jay. There will be bad dancers, but they aren’t as immediately obvious as in past years. Then again, I didn’t expect Scott Mills to be one of the worst contestants ever, and he was. If Jay turns out to be a dud I’ll feel really sorry for Aliona, but even without dancing well his fanbase gives him a few weeks. Also, dude needs a haircut. Possibly two. If Jamelia can keep her mouth shut she could be a real contender. Tristan might be the best choice to handle her. Anthony and Oti could be very good for each other, and she made a great first impression. Iwan and Ola are very confusing. I expected her to be punished for some terrible decisions she made last year, then when she got Iwan I thought she might be being shown mercy, but she seems less convinced he’s a good partner. Time will tell I guess.
This is awesome! The launch show is really interesting than the hype DWTS was creating with the Whip/nae nae and announcing the celebrity all over the place. I’m so excited to see Tristan and Gleb. Hopefully I can see Tristan longer because he always got bad partners on DWTS. I don’t know why DWTS ever let go of both of them. I guess they didn’t think about copying the successful show like Derek Move Live on Tour. Imagine Gleb and Tristan on the DWTS tour. Both are such an eye candy. Val will look nothing compare to them 🙂 Tristan accent alone will make the ladies go crazy. So yeah, Strictly got Gleb and DWTS got Louis 😀
