PureDWTS Season 21: Alfonso Ribeiro to Guest Judge in Week 3, “TV Icons Week”
So People just broke the news that Alfonso will be the first guest judge of the season. It also looks like the theme of week three is “iconic tv shows”. Iiiinteresting. Here’s what Alfonso had to say about it:
“Guest judging on Dancing with the Stars is like returning home for me but with the big twist of being on the other side of the judge’s table, which is both a relief and exciting,” Ribeiro, 44, says of hosting TV Week on the show, where each couple will pay homage to iconic TV shows.
Honestly, I think having Fonz as the first guest judge just seems like the natural thing to do – he already seems to be so active at the show, and the dude has a good bit of dance/entertainment knowledge to bring to the table, so I think he’ll actually give relevant critiques. Thoughts?
I thought they sad no guest judges this season?
Anyway – Alfonso will be great and definitely an obvious choice both because of his dancing but also because of the theme 🙂

I had just been thinking that since there was so much talking going on already it’s a good thing there would be no guest judges this season. Couldn’t they at least have waited a couple of weeks — next week there will still be a boatload of couples competing. My sense is that Alfonso does tend to like the sound of his own voice, so I’m not looking forward to this at all. So far this season is just one bad idea after another. What upside did someone think there was to two dances in Week 2 anyway?
If they HAVE to have guest judges I’m OK with this but I’d rather they stick with 3, too much time is already taken by blah blah blah, I’d much rather see longer dances.
I just knew they’d have Guest Judges. lol I wonder who else is lined up?
@Vogue – Knowing how random they can be? Probably Jon Hamm, that gorilla at the Louisville Zoo that loves selfies, and Justin Bieber’s new haircut.
I’ve heard that gorilla has more dance knowledge than Redfoo. I’ll look for a source, Court.
As for Alfonso guest judging, I’m liking the idea. I’m sure he’ll have some good criticism to give. I really just hope he is the only guest judge though. I’m already getting used to (once again) having only three judges.
@Courtney – As long as Maks doesn’t appear on my television screen, then I’m okay with Magilla Gorilla or anyone else as a matter of fact.
While I’ve never really cared for Alfonso – not sure why – something about him has always bugged me on a gut level – there’s no denying that he’s an amazing dancer, popular, charismatic, and a very relevant guest judge – not to mention that he’s got the ABC tie-in now too. All of this makes sense, and I’m sure he’ll be as good addition to the panel as can be expected.
NOOO!! If they want to have a guest judge, why not one of the Ballas’ or maybe even Micheal Wentik. I don’t like it how Alfonso is involved even after season 19. I mean he was great but definitely not the best male celeb/dancer ever. That title goes to Corbin Blue for sure.

A bit off topic but I was on social media during the show last night and the recently crowned world latin professional champion was live tweeting about the show as he watched it (Neil Jones). One thing that stood out was his bemusement at how bad the judging was (he’s British so it used to SCD and low scores). I found it quite funny to be fair. One thing he said about Len being a big miss was spot on! I thought the judges were terrible last night ESPECIALLY Carrie Ann, so maybe a guest judge will help although I doubt it with Alfonso.
I was really hoping that the no guest judges was the one thing that would have stayed consistent this season. With the exception of a guest appearance by Len,I would prefer just 3. I’m sorry and definitely in the minority here but I’m kind of sick of so much Alfonso being forced at us. Was so excited when he was resurrected for DWTS and it surely jumpstarted his career again but can we just let him go on his merry way now??
Could it be possible Bruno is taking a week off?? Double episode of SCD this week.
So odd to confirm no guest judges then bang here we go … What goes on in that office!
*sigh* I was just thinking how pleasant it was to be back to just 3 judges. It takes some of the focus off the judges’ panel and puts it back on the couples, where it belongs! Oh well, if we have to have a guest judge, at least Alfonso has cred on several fronts.
I’m sick of Alfonso, honestly. He’s like the Lisa Riley of DWTS, and even Lisa vanished off Strictly after some time. Oh, and I’m sick of guest judges too – I always prefer they got their score out of 30 on DWTS (because Strictly already cover the 40 scale). If there were a guest judge, hopefully one of the three main panels wouldn’t present so there’ll still be three.
I vote AJ for guest judge. I’m kinda tired of seeing Alfonso too, honestly. He’s approaching Donny Osmond territory.
@Heidi – Between AJ Ribeiro & Peanut Rademacher, I think we’d get the equivalent of Len 🙂 Both very good at looking nonplussed.
Just seen that the ratings were down last night. Looks like we have the reason why Alfonso and other guest judges are being recruited out of nowhere.
And I would so be swooning. Them’s mah boys. 🙂
