Dancing With The Stars Val Chmerkovskiy Visits With Access Hollywood – Video
Val Chmerkovskiy was a guest on Access Hollywood today. He chats about Tamar Braxton and Dancing With The Stars. He also talks on Maks and how they use to fight when they were kids. Lots more below including talk on Bindi as his switch up partner and Maks as a guest judge at the end…
Whats wrong with this guy? If he keeps talking like tat abt Tamar he won’t go far this season he himself is making it difficult.
This was so awkward to watch but also funny! I used to chalk their attitude up to being Russian and blunt but idk anymore.
This interview is just another example why I can’t stand this man.
First I think it’s rude Tamar did not show or pick up her phone. Even if something urgent came up, in this day and age you can communicate easily especially when you have a TV interview!
I really don’t think either of these C brothers have a grasp on the subtleties of the language. Does he REALLY know what subordinate mean? A really poor word choice, maybe “cooperative” or “flexible”, or ” respects the process”. No bueno Val.
Idioms “like chip off my shoulder” ? I have seen both these guys misuse words and phrases but it seems to come at the worst moment. He is seriously his own worst enemy.
He is his own worst enemy
Good grief, “subordinate,” “a huge chip off my shoulder,” “I’m a different man now that’s out-of-the-way?” Meaning he can’t be confident, positive, and loving, without a MBT? That’s truly pathetic and it’s also sad.
I’m so confused, this was a fine respectful interview considering Tamar didn’t show up. What’s with all the crap review on Vals attitude? he has a sarcastic sense of humour and most fans don’t get it but when he dances with a partner, he focuses all his energy for them! He’s professional and probably next to Anna and sharna one of the best choreographer. I still can’t get over the toxic dance with rulmer and the Argentine tango with Meryl.
Kenya smith , it’s a joke. Light up
Lindsey, the only ones here who should be telling anyone what to do are the mods. Back of my job, please.
All your opinion, Lindsey, but you don’t get to play the “Why are you guys being so mean to poor Val?” card. He’s a pompous asshole in this interview, and I don’t care if his partner didn’t show – if he’s the consummate professional you claim he is, he needs to be a bigger person and let go of any desire to take jabs at his partner. And spare me the “he’s just sarcastic, you just don’t his sense of humor” act – I’m well-versed in sarcasm and this wasn’t it. This was bitter and antagonistic. Val “one of the best choreographers on the show next to Anna & Sharna”? *snicker* Kay…nevermind that we have another pro on the show with two Emmy’s whose name is NOT Val, and that Anna couldn’t even choreograph a decent freestyle for an Olympic gold medal figure skater. And Val had to rehash a tango to create Rumer’s freestyle…color me unimpressed.
Lindsay, for what it’s worth, I agree with you. If I watched this before I saw all the comments about it, I wouldn’t have thought much about it. I’m a little confused too where all the hate comes from . . . I’ve watched all 21 seasons and I’ve never had a huge problem with him. Not my favorite, but I don’t hate him. Everyone’s allowed to have their opinion I guess.
**Lindsey
Sorry!
I’m sorry, Lindsay, but IMO Val was not being sarcastic, he was saying exactly how he feels in the quotes I gave.
No hate for Val here, Danielle, just observations of a very insecure and self-absorbed guy.
@Danielle – “Hate”? Are you really that immature that you think any time someone dislikes another person, it’s “hate”?
Gonna repeat what I said earlier: accusing someone of “hate” for something so trivial is a tool of the weak-minded and emotionally immature, used in an attempt to shut down conversations that they just don’t like.
Ohhhhh Val. Right when I think you’re on the road to redemption — THIS! I felt that he was attempting (maybe) to choose his words verrrry wiiiiisely, but still managed to choose the wrong ones! He could’ve addressed his partner’s absence (what was that about?) without completely throwing her under the bus. This combined with that ridiculous disappearing Instagram post…I can’t. Just can’t.
I don’t dislike Val…and sometimes I feel like he does get blasted on this site a lot…but it’s not for no reason! Stuff like this is exactly why people don’t prefer him. And to be honest, I can’t really blame them!
What jab did he take at tamar? I thought he was completely complimentary of her, even with the interview was trying to lead him by saying tamars always late.
For those wondering, subordinate is tamars lingo and an inside joke. She calls Val & her husband Vince insubordinate about 5x every interview.
@Eliza – Tamar and the subordinate lingo is a true statement. But I really do believe he could’ve done better no matter stupid Billy and Kit are, lol. For me, it was a bit awkward to watch and I didn’t read these comments first.
Kenya, don’t apologize. Some people can’t deal with a disagreeing opinion in the slightest.
Les, he’s his own worst enemy. Maks is the same way.
You’re right, Vogue.
ooohh that footloose freestyle still disturbs me–poor Evan. It seems like that freestyle just discounted all his growth that season.
Val just does it to himself. I have no strong feelings for the guy on either side of the fence but man who have to think before you use your words. They did bait him with the Tamar absence and whether he said anything or not seems they were going to make it known that she didn’t show
Oh, I see a new Val fan found us and can’t keep her comments limited to her own opinion. What a shock. Not.
Lindsey, don’t tell people to lighten up, and find something to do other than whining about other peoples opinions.
Maybe Tamar isn’t happy about the switch up. Still she should have at least sent him a text that she wasn’t going to make the interview. And, I hope it didn’t pain Val too much to say his few words about Bindi. I’m sure Derek will show more enthusiasm with his switch-up partner. I just hope Val does Bindi justice, even if she isn’t Tamar.
I just read Derek’s blog and here’s a paragraph of what he said about his switch-up partner:
“I have Alexa for the switch-up and she’s awesome. She has an amazing capacity for movement. She can truly be a great dancer. My goal with her is polishing everything. I want refinement and to make her look clean and strong. We have a pretty cool concept in mind too for our tango. It’s only her second ballroom dance after her first this week, but I don’t feel like she’s behind or anything. She’s doing great and learns quickly.”
Need I say more? What a difference!!!!
I think that ‘subordinate’ comment was made because we all know she’s not.
And regarding the chip on his shoulder and being happier now, I’m from eastern Europe and am in my final year of med school and my parents are never happy with what I do. You can’t possibly imagine the pressure put on by parents on their children to succeed, they have their dreams that didn’t get realized and they project in on their children. I don’t mean this as ‘poor Val, you don’t understand him’, but I think you don’t understand the environment he grew up in. I never saw a problem with how he or Maks acted, because it’s something I see every day, but Allison bugs me for some reason, so I understand your dislike for the two of them.
Soooo….after all the nice things Bindi said about Val on IG, he actually dare to say he didn’t understand why Bindi didn’t get it (their dance for Monday). I gave him benefit of the doubt and he proved once again that he just an ass. Oh how I sometimes wish some of the tabloids come on this site and start posting things like this because I’m sure tptb will show how “nice” Val was toward Bindi on their rehearsal package and his robot followers will say once again that “Val is the sweetest guy.” DWTS wants drama? Wish the tabloid gives them the drama they deserve. Mods, you can delete this comment if you find it too harsh.
I agree, Thiana. I wish TPTB would replace him with someone else. I wouldn’t think TPTB would want the celebs to be treated like that and the sweetest 17 year old at that. There are so many dancers out there with tons more talent (and who would never treat someone like that) just waiting for a chance to be on this show.
I wish the producers who are witnessing this would speak up to TPTB. Her mom should be in the room with them. After the stressful week she had, she has to put up with the DWTS version of Abby Lee Miller! We all know this was another manipulation by TPTB after Val threw yet another hissy fit because he got Paula. Can’t choreograph to a song; change it. Can’t get the dance style to work; change it. That chip he said was off his shoulder is now a redwood! I wonder if Tamar has heard this interview?
Eh, for me, the “Eastern European parents put a lot of pressure on their kids” argument doesn’t cut it.
First, a lot of parents from different cultures are very driven and implacable when it comes to their kids education and future careers. My husband is Indian. He wanted to be an airline pilot, but his mom put the kibosh on that and not so gently nudged him to get a degree in commerce.
I know so many people from different cultures that were pushed by their parents to choose a more prestigious or better paying career than what the children wanted themselves.
However, using that as an excuse to explain away arrogant and douchey behavior is wrong. Otherwise, every Indian engineer you meet would be a raging asshole, every Asian doctor you meet would be a sad little douche and every Eastern Europeon would be like………well Val.
Karina comes from the same background as Val. She is not only a former world champion Latin dancer she also has a degree from Fordham university. She’s obviously a driven individual. Yet she’s also a kind, positive individual.
From where I sit, Val has a deep seated insecurity, who was probably spoiled and doted on a bit as the youngest child. He cannot or will not accept any form of critism or even a difference of opinion. He doesn’t have the capacity to let things roll of his back like water on a duck.
I also think he has a bit of a martyr complex as well. He jumped onto the showmance train wholeheartedly with Janel, then when that started to backfire, he said his critics were haters. Poor wittle put upon Val.
I’ll respect him when he starts taking responsibility for his actions and words.
And no, I don’t “hate” him. I do enjoy watching him dance. If he could just keep his mouth shut and stay off social media, everything would be peachy.
Milena, I think you make a valid point about background differences, but Val seems to forget he is dancing in the US version of the show, not the Russian or any other Eastern European country version. And he is giving interviews to the US media, and the show is mostly watched by Americans, so I think he needs to adjust the way he represents himself so that he can be better understood.
Did I watch a different interview? As someone who has never liked Val and after reading the comments and expecting my opinion to be reinforced I gotta say I’m really confused. It looked to me like the interviewers were trying to get him to talk bad about Tamar but I didn’t hear him say a bad word about her. All I saw him say about Bindi is that she was a wonderful girl. Did I miss a part of the interview? Did the interview make me like him? No. But I didn’t hear where he threw anybody under the bus or took a jab at anybody. And quite frankly it was extremely rude and unprofessional of Tamar not to show up or let anybody know she wasn’t showing up. So for once, props to Val for actually not throwing her under the bus like he could have and like the interviewers were begging him to do.
Its really hard to listen to him speak. He’s always in protective mode.
Now we’re hearing that he’s being mean to Bindi! What an a**hole. How he can mistreat a sweet angel like her just angers me so. He should be honored. This was suppose be a fun week for both of them.
I already know they will show him in a different light when the show airs on Monday and he’ll try and clear his name as well but many of us know he’s a wolf in sheep clothing.
Court, do you have any intel from your sources on how things are going in the Bindi/Val rehearsal room? It’s well documented that I don’t think much of Val, but I think even less of the accuracy of 99% of what’s said on social media.
Sorry, everybody’s got stuff from their parents/culture/whatever. As an adult, an independent agent, everyone is responsible for their own actions, period. It’s all about choice, and some might be more difficult than others, but the difficulty of a task doesn’t excuse failure to undertake it.
I’ve come to the conclusion that neither Val nor his bro has any depth — of character, intelligence, you name it. This, of course, explains how they could think that doing a video wearing only hats on their privates is a splendid idea. Regarding the word “subordinate,” no one has mentioned that after Billy remarked about that word Val said that he “learned it yesterday.” So here he was, like any 3 year old, trying to impress. Except his use of the word was ridiculous. “She’s very subordinate.” On its face, that’s an insult. It would appear that thinking it through to realize that is way too much effort for Val. He just wants to throw it out there so everyone will be impressed and then move on. Like I said, shallow.
And now this knuckle-scraper has the gall to treat sweet Bindi in such a way that she takes blame on herself for his lousy teaching? It makes my blood boil.
Where did Val say that Bindi wasn’t getting it (the dance)? I don’t know much about the technical side–is cha-cha a very difficult dance?
#Maria2 Check Courtney’s twitter.
@cidra – Mind if we kick over to the members area? What I said on Twitter is already causing a rather large stir and I’d rather not whip the natives into a frenzy here 😉
Hmmm..I don’t want Bindi to take all the blame onto herself. A good teacher in any subject is able to figure another teaching angle if the student isn’t getting it. The sign of a great teacher is one who can tailor his teaching style to the student and not try to force the round student into the square peg of his teaching style.
#nl EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I said, it makes my blood boil.
I sure hope the controversy isn’t because of my two posts. I re-read them and it was only referring to Tamar not showing up or even texting Val to let him know she wasn’t going to make the interview. (and suggested “maybe” she wasn’t that happy about the “switch”. And, also that he didn’t come across very excited to have a new partner like others seem to be; and I posted what Derek’s said about his switch-up! I was just sharing the difference between these two Pros. I’m sure if I search around I could probably find some other Pros comments as enthusiastic, also. JMO
Suzy, I couldn’t agree more with your post. It is about choice. I think more people than not have come from less than ideal situations. And obviously, some people have had terrible upbringings, but that doesn’t give them permission to unleash their anger about it onto others. As someone who has battled a cruel disease since birth, it bothers greatly me whenever I hear people automatically refer to a someone who has just murdered an innocent person as being “sick.” Why? Because people like myself, didn’t choose our sickness, it chose us. And to compare that lack of choice to the calculated and deliberate act of taking human life is wrong. Now if the murderer is later diagnosed with a mental illness, which I know does exist, then I’m willing to cut him/her some slack, but I believe it’s less mental illness and more pure evil. It’s a choice. As for Maks and Val being the jerks they are and mistreating people, they need to learn a lesson from one of their fellow pros, Derek Hough. He was abused physically and emotionally, growing up, and lived through his parents divorce, both situations being devastating to him, and yet, he chose to forgive, he chose to reject bitterness, he chose as he put it to be “a force for good” in the world. And today, he is choosing to treat people with kindness and respect.
Val misuses words on a regular basis. He’s clearly not well read.

#40 Bravo Kenya Smith, I couldn’t have said it better 🙂
Thank you so much you, Dee. 🙂
Regarding Val…wow, just WOW!!! Smh!
I’m not a Val person but I don’t think he is ignorant English is either his 2nd or 3rd language Sometimes people mix things up. That’s not to say he isn’t full of himself but not everything needs to be interpreted as ugly
Lea, no – English may be his second language, but it’s not like he’s a recent 3rd world immigrant. He’s lived here for 20 years. He has little room for excuses.
Wow. I just read Val’s Twitter. The venom he spews towards this blog and Coutney is really disturbing. Insulting someone’s intelligence, calling Derek’s fans stalkers and saying anyone who disagrees with him are bullies.
Part of me thinks he kind of gets off on all the conflict. Why else would he fan the flames so much?
Jeez, I’m just really sorry that the mods on this blog have to put up with such negativity and vitriol from him.
I 100% believe Val was horrible to Bindi. Because i recall several instances where we were shown on TV at him being mean at his partners.
i still remember him shouting at Janel and Zendaya for not getting the steps.
Zendaya was 16 at that time and he was getting angry and shouting at her because she would not point her toe (her cha cha i think).
So why are his fans and himself not believing Courtney and accusing her? Do they have selective memory loss?
He is such a narcissist and is believing his hype too much.
Wow…I’ve just realized what’s going on with Val on Twitter. Derek has been getting lots of hate from every angle you can named and on every social media but never EVER he responded on twitter. To me doing what Val is doing is just fueling his fans to start war. And this isn’t the first time. Remember how he and his fam bam started throwing shade after shade after Kellie Pickler won? I think this was also fueling his fans to really hate Derek so much. Why does he keep on doing this? Derek has done the opposite. On his recent blog he even said Bindi can learn from Val. That statement made a lot of Derek’s fans to start believing in Val. In other words, Derek calms his fans. And it’s too funny that Val had to drag Derek “look, even Derek said you all are crazy stalker.” Really Val? Even if Derek said that I have no doubt he said it in a humorous way. No doubt! Val doesn’t need to play the card. Honestly, Val’s rage scares me. He needs to chill, big time. Does he need an intervention?
And btw, English is my second language but I don’t have to use it as an excuse for being misundestood. One thing I learn though that nothing in life has to be handed in to you. I don’t believe in “it’s someone else’s turn to win.”
Honestly, do not see anything wrong with this interview. Yeah he picked a few wrong words, he was going to praise Bindi even more but the interview interrupted. Bindi seems to be just doing fine with Val. If they were having troubles, explain why Bindi is so positive with Val on her twitter?
:::rolls eyes::: Why don’t you read everything before commenting next time.
And Bindi, like Derek, loves everyone. Believe it or not, most of us don’t base our entire opinion on one tweet, or the thoughts of others, but our own perceptions.
Nowhere has anyone said Val is “evil”. Evil is Idi Amin, Heinrich Himmler and Elizabeth Bathory.
Val isn’t evil. He is delusional, thin skinned and autocratic, but certainly not evil. No one is saying he should be restrained Hannibal Lecter style. He has faults, as we all do.
It’s this sort of hyperbole that distinguishes Val’s fans against almost everyone else. If you don’t support him 100%, then you’re a “hater” or according to Val in his most recent rants on Twitter, a “Derek stalker” or unintelligent.
The mods on this site don’t sit around rubbing their hands together in villainess, mustache twirling glee whilst impatiently waiting to post the next inflammatory post about Val.
They find the time somehow in their busy lives to post articles for us fans who love both this show and the pros.
Expecting everyone to agree with your viewpoint is a colossal waste of time. It’s in acknowledging our differences, while peacefully occupying the same space, that we show our humanity.
What I don’t understand is why people who claim to have so much problem with this site, visit it so frequently. I mean no one is forcing you guys here? If I don’t like a blog, site, account, whatever, I avoid it like the plague. Yet all day today I’ve seen Val fans looking up places to start an argument. YOu don’t like what someone is saying, then just ignore it. Seems like the simplest thing to do.
Gee, a Val fan prone to hyperbole, lying and an obsession with a site they claim to hate? What a surprise! The fact that they point at us and cry “bully” all the while exhibiting that behavior so completely is just…well, it would be hilarious if it wasn’t so freakin’ sad. 🙂
And really, a person who says Tamar is “subordinate” has no business calling anyone unintelligent.
I’m late to this party but to me the most comical thing that has come out of this Val vs. Courtney thing is the fact that he had the balls to call her a Derek stalker and put words in Derek’s mouth regarding the matter. He’s an asshole, plain and simple. He’s one to talk about “stalkers” when his own fans prove time and time again they’re literal psychopaths blinded by the sight of his mediocre abs. I could list 10 fans off the top of my head who frequent DWTS twitters and IG’s to defend his honor and kiss his ass, and he interacts with/follows plenty of them. So his stalker comment in moot. Then we have the fact that his fans constantly blame his douchebaggery on his background. All I see is a spoiled brat who was placed upon a pedestal by not only his parents and brother, but his friends as well. All cultures have strict parents. I have strict Italian immigrant parents who wouldn’t let me go to college for anything less than a doctorate and guess what? I’m not an entitled asshole who says what’s on my mind just because I think I can. It’s an excuse for the fact that really, he’s a dick who thinks he’s better than everyone else and he’s created an army of mini female assholes ready to fight and defend him at the drop of a hat. He sic’d his fans on Courtney just like he did to Janel when she said he was fake. I know plenty of people from Brooklyn, many of whom are immigrants, and they’re not rude scumbuckets. He needs psychological help. He came here when he was 8, not 28. That’s plenty of time to learn the language and learn how to not be a prick. He’s a fake, right down to his “I’m your big brother now” and “this is the hardest *insert dance here* choreo I’ve ever done on the show”. My question is why TPTB continue to cater to him and kiss his ass. Why were all the lie detector questions about him being good looking? Frankly, his face is not that attractive and he’s not as tall as he claims to be. This show would be so much more joyful to watch without him and Maks’ negativity poisoning it.
I appreciate everyone’s support throughout this whole nonsensical feud, but I’m going to make the following suggestion: if you really wanna hit Val where it hurts, don’t talk about him at all. Notice how I’ve weighed in very little on the whole thing, despite kinda being at the center of it? I know his type – egomaniac that doesn’t care how people are talking about him, as long as people are talking about him, period. The only reason he exploded at me is because I hit a nerve – and you best believe that a man who wasn’t guilty of what I was saying would not have reacted so strongly. And I’m not going to even weigh in on anything else he said because it’s all the ramblings of a desperate man, trying to deflect. Hell, he probably would have accused me of being in league with ISIS if he thought it might strengthen his case.
Trust me, the man will have a meltdown if somebody isn’t talking about him. And on that note, that’s all the more I’m going to say on the whole thing…so why don’t we move on to more important, relevant things? 🙂
Wise words Courtney.?
