Strictly Come Dancing Week 3: Pre-Show Info, Photos, Videos, Review Dances In Comments
So, it’s Week 3 of Strictly Come Dancing and it’s “Movie” week. This time, Gleb Savchenko and Anita Rani will be performing the American Smooth to ‘Unchained Melody’ from Ghost. Jamelia and Tristan MacManus will be performing a Salsa to ‘Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel’ from Charlie’s Angels. To see the more dance information for the rest of the couples, see the official BBC Strictly Site.
For some pre-show info: Nathan says apart from Anita and Gleb doing “the pottery scene” in Ghost, know also the ballroom will be decked out in a movie theme. Also, we might see a Pro number in tonight’s show. Let’s hope so. We’ll post videos as soon as we can and now we have @AndreaM1969 helping us too so we should get them fast.
So, as always, let us know what you think of the dances and show in comments. You can even rank them if you want or tell us your Top 3? Who will be eliminated? Thanks, All, and DON’T FORGET TO VOTE! For how to do so including registration info, SEE THIS LINK!

ETA: A pre-show piccie courtesy of Gleb. Note that they are dancing 13th….
And a pic of the Ballroom….
ETA2: Thanks to Andrea for recording, here is the opening number. Beautiful!!!
ETA3: Tristan and Jamelia just wrapped up their dance. They really came out there and just had a lot of fun. She seemed much more relaxed than last week. Her kicks had some issues, but, her spins were just beautiful. I loved Tristan’s clever choreography. I loved when she cried after their scores too. So cute. Let’s hope they avoid the dance off this time. scores: 6, 7, 6, 6 =25
ETA4: Gleb and Anita just danced. Some dances are just so beautiful and so moving, they make me cry and Gleb and Anita did just that. They were just breathtaking out there. The production was stunning. I thought this dance was the best choreographed of the night. It was like watching DWTSRussia all over again. Just absolutely beautiful. scores: 6, 8, 8, 7 = 29 (I thought they deserved higher scores. I would have liked to see a 10 but nothing lower than an 8)
Let us know what you think. Below are their videos. THANK YOU Andrea!!! Be sure you are following her at @AndreaM1969.

Woo-hoo!!! I’m excited.
I think Anita and Gleb will give us a beautiful dance. They’ve looked so good in rehearsal clips. There’s just one move that looks odd to me but perhaps they hadn’t quite got it down and it will look good today (hope so).
Fingers crossed Jamelia and Tristan will surprise us with a good Salsa. I know my concern should be for Jamelia (and it is), but I adore Tris, and like Mr A, I so want the poor guy to make it through at least one week without having to do the dance-off.
Thanks guys. I am getting hooked on SCD. I tried watching on my iPad last week buy couldn’t. Will try the PC today. Looking forward to all the dances. Anita and Gleb look beautiful in rehearsal.
Here’s for another night of great dancing! I don’t mean to be shady but with DWTS being messy right now I’m glad we have Strictly to look forward.
I love Tristan just like everyone so I’m hoping even if Jamelia couldn’t escape the dance-off, hopefully she’ll face someone much weaker like Carol or Jeremy. On the other side, I do get the feeling that Anita is one of the viewer’s favourites to win now. She’s yet to do a Ballroom but that’s where I predict she’ll excel so we’ll see!
Top three as of now: Helen, Anita and Katie. Yes, I’m fine with Anton being in the finale this year if Katie could keep up/he doesn’t throw any racial slurs/he didn’t butcher the Latin dances too badly.
Awesome Quest. They sure did! Gleb seems really excited on this dance. I can’t wait to see what he’s created.
Cids, I agree. I hope Tristan and and Jamelia won’t have to do another dance off. I hope they have a killer dance today. I love their movie theme. Here’s to the show!
Thanks Daniel!! I love that you are getting a winning vibe on Glen and Anita!
*Cracks knuckles* Let’s do this. As always I shall be live-tweeting the shit out of this (@PrinceofFire2 FYI.) Anita and Gleb have another great slot. Interested to see how everyone else is scheduled. Jay and Aliona should definitely get pimp spot.
I don’t usually comment right after watching the show (since I’m a numb head who changes opinion every five seconds), but I’m going to be away from the net until later so before I forget I’ll drop my thoughts now:
Carol… cue to that Bart Simpson cake that says “at least you tried”.
Anthony once again feels like just passing by. It’s one of those routines that are entertaining while it lasts and you forget as soon as it finished. Oti looks banging as always though.
Katie was disappointing, sadly. Anton is definitely to blame, but Katie could be stronger.
Kellie was glorious. I hate Kevin but he did one good dance at last.
Ainsley was hilarious, and loved the disco bits in the beginning. Not so much for the actual Cha-cha sections though.
Georgia was okay. One thing I prefer for my Rumbas is the fluidity, and Giovanni’s choreography was so… stocky, I guess? It’s like one sharp, edgy turn after another. Not that the song helped, but still danced rather well. I’m LIVING though for all those faces he pull at Len lmao. Might as well start calling him Sweati Giovanni too.
Helen still finishes strong. She’s not going off the top of my chart anytime soon. Was it Darcey that said she has to do that every week? I can’t wait for her doing Paso as Marilyn then (thanks Monkseal!)
Danny Zuko’s Cha-cha was bizarre. Still not interested.
Kirsty was okay, from what I watched. Missed a lot of her dance, might as well rewatch her later to make proper comment. That dog costume is awful though.
Peter’s Paso suffered from using the exact same song, setting etc with Riker’s Paso which was centuries better. It seemed SO frantic as well, I’m not labeling Janette as Strictly’s Allison but that was honestly too much energy. Lol at Peter’s obviously hoping for 8s and he didn’t get any, ha!
Jamelia was improving, and I’m warming up to her a lot more. Did I see Tristan shacking her hair to get her down in the middle? I thought that was rather harsh, even if that was part of his actual choreography.
Jeremy is lovely and his dance was entertaining. But he indeed moved so little, and please don’t bring his brother ever again.
Anita was underscored! Why did their critiques never matched the scores? Craig gave it a 6… Come on now. Can’t believe she still hasn’t got a 30 while Jay got a 10 already.
Speaking of the devil, I don’t know. It’s an entertaining Jive, done really well, and easily best dance of the night. A 10 already? Last year we got one too on week three, but that was given by Donny *blergh* Osmond. I mean, Louisa Lytton got one 10 for her second dance, and Kelly Brook got one for her third dance as well, but Jay’s Jive didn’t bring me anywhere near those moments to merit a 10. Instead of a “It was a perfect dance! 10!” moment, it was more like a “We haven’t whipped a single 9 all night, so you thought I’m going for a 9 too? Lol no, scream louder! 10!” moment. But at least the dance was entertaining, and it didn’t go randomly to Daniel or something.
Overall great improvement from the first two weeks, I thoroughly enjoyed the dances and the cheesy footages. Carol was by far the weakest, sadly, but at least Pasha won’t be eliminated first after winning.
Ok so is agreed with the scores for the most part but honestly jay was over scored and for some reason I think the judges (especially Craig and Bruno) were law balling like crazy. The three for Jeremy….ok I agreed with but the 4 for Anthony and the 3 for Ainsley was just off. So Anton has gotten what my friends and I refer to as “Anton scores” again 🙁 poor Katie. Didn’t think it was that bad. Jays jive was fun but the 10 was just a little too early for my liking there Bruno. He seems to like jay a lot but even I have to say that he might be favoring him. My fav (and only dance I would want to re watch) was Kevin and Kellie. I’m not a Kevin fan but even I have to admit that it was the best dance I have seen so far from him this early in the competition. Usually he is out shining his partner but since the midpoint of last season he seems to have turned over a new leaf in that department.
I just watched Jay’s jive. It was so good, but, a 10?
I’m just floored at Gleb and Anita’s scores. I mean…a 6? Come on!!! The least I would have given that dance is an 8. I loved it so much. It was like watching DWTSRussia all over again. I thought it was the best choreographed dance of the night too. I love the lights and the production. Just stunning.
I reckon Anthony’s going home after that. Shame as I like Oti. Who gave the 10 for Jay? I’m guessing it was Darcey (weak at the knees following any male performance) Bussell.
People at Digitalspy already screaming it was the best dance done on Strictly in years, or even worse, it was the best Jive ever. Huh what? I really like that but that doesn’t touch Kelly’s, Jill’s and Scott Maslen’s, the resident Best Bloke Jive on Strictly for me. For those who haven’t, please watch Scott’s Jive on YouTube. It wasn’t bad, clearly worthy for a 9 or two, but a 10 is just stretching.
Bruno gave the 10, by the way. This is what I really don’t like with blatant overscoring – it turns me off from the celeb so much. Even if Helen got a 10 for a dance she didn’t deserve, I’m sure it’s going to turn me off a bit from her. I thought we’re back with scoring that made sense, but nah, expect more insanity in scoring for the upcoming weeks then.
Well that 10 is Arbitrary. He hasnt even given a 9 yet lol.
Although scores were different, i thought the ranking of them was somewhat good (anyways, in strictly, point difference doesnt matter; it’s just ranking).
6 was BS on anita. It was better than that copy of riker’s paso which got a 7 from that judge.
A lot of low scores tonight except for that 10. Heck 1st is 37; 2nd is 32; then 3rd is 29. That point gap tho.
Also can I just say that Len really just annoyed me beyond bird with the Georgia and Giovanni dance. she looked embarrassed beyond belief and it wasn’t anything bad either. Giovanni has the if looks could kill you would be dead look on his face.
I like jay’s jive. I would have given it a 9 perhaps. 8 if i were in a bad mood lol. At least it was a jive.
Agree about Giovanni and Len, it’s like there were some sort of vendetta around them, and Giovanni looked like he tried his hardest to compose himself there. And again, is he melting?
Agree so much there, Vogue! Anita should’ve gotten at least straight 8s I’d say, it was visually stunning and the routine was wonderful. Baffled with the 6.
I thought Gleb and Anita were amazing, such a beautiful dance and a story well told. I was saying to myself all 8’s and maybe a 9. Well, these judges really have high expectations for week 3. I thought Jay’s dance was great…again thinking all 9’s not a 10. Must really vote for your favorites here, because the judges are so unpredictable, unlike DWTS.
I disagee julie w; the judges in dwts are also very unpredicatable as well, they even share the same judge
Gotta be honest, I’m not 100% present at the moment. It’s my 21st this week and like 20 people have ignored my requests for “a quiet weekend and we can celebrate in November if you insist.” I’m tired, distracted and pissed off. I shall try and press on regardless.
Jay was good, I gave him 9. My mum went NUTS, but I had to point out to her that how the choreography wasn’t always the best. Bit simple and repetitive.
Kellie and Kevin actually did a great job. Kevin’s choreography was really cool and she did a good job of it. Deserved second place.
Helen still really annoys me. The one thing Marilyn had was this strange charisma, which is completely missing in Helen. She delivered a good Foxtrot, but the extras bugged. Still having footwork issues.
Anyone else think the 7s for Jamelia were entirely to keep her out of the bottom 2? Anyone else have ZERO idea what the 7s for Jeremy were for?
Gleb and Anita were very good. I was in between an 8 and a 9. It gave me goosebumps. Tristan did not have that much luck with his partner. I hope they stay out of the dance off. I have no idea how famous Jamelia is and how many votes she can draw. Let’s hope the best. It will be an awesome results show tomorriow. Andrea Boccelli will perform.
I’m enjoying the show so far. One thing I noticed, Strictly does have some amazing Waltz. Love the music choices so far too.
hey can you see the videos at SCD youtube channel they seem to block the international fans as well . is it a copyright thing or something.
thank you for the alternative videos vogue.
@Kirami
They seem to have blocked international viewers – I can’t see any dance and I am quite upset.
I missed today’s show and I wanted to see Jay’s “anazing” Jive and see what all the fuzz was about. Crazy that he already got a 10 (and a 9 from Craig – that’s not easy).
@ CC NY there you go : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JciDqz1LQQU&feature=youtu.be
To Jamie, NO.18, I just meant that I have watched the show since season 1 and I almost always can predict the judges scores just by their reviews….I say them before they do, and my husband is amazed how on target I am. This is my first season watching SCD, and I have not gotten all 4 correct yet. I get Len’s scores and the female judge but not the other two. It’s a great show and I am really enjoying it.
Mr A. Happy 21st.
I loved Movie Night. Most of the performances were entertaining and hit the right balance between theme and dance.
First off, I thought most of the costumes were fantastic. The two fails for me were Kirsty/Brendan’s Lady and the Tramp and Peter/Janette’s Pirate of the Caribbean. There was just way too much going on in both of them. It was distracting to the eye and affected the quality of the dancing and overall performance value for those couples.
My three favorite dances of the night were: Anita/Gleb’s American Smooth, Jay/Aliona’s Jive and Kellie/Kevin’s Charleston. Three very different dance styles all performed extremely well by the couples. Honorable mention to Georgia/Giovanni’s Rumba.
Possible Dance-Off Match-ups: I think Anthony/Oti are a pretty likely candidates for the dance-off (don’t know what their fan base support is like). Even though they’re bottom of the leader board, I think Carol/Pasha could escape the dance-off because Carol seems quite well-liked and Pasha is a very popular pro. I wouldn’t be surprised if Katie/Anton, Jamelia/Tristan, and/or Kirsty/Brendan end up in the dance-off.
Comments on the Dances (in Running Order):
Carol/Pasha – Quickstep. It was charming. Pasha very wisely sacrificed speed to make it possible for Carol to keep up.
Anthony/Oti – Paso. As I feared, he didn’t do that well.
Katie/Anton – ChaCha. Anton let Katie down with that choreography. Yes, that’s his failure, but you can’t give Katie a high score for doing nothing but posing, even if she posed well.
Kellie/Kevin – Charleston. Absolutely loved it. Nice blend of homage to the theme and traditional Charleston steps.
Ainsley/Natalie – ChaCha. Loved Natalie’s choreography, loved the costumes – just enough penguin. Ainsley had zero ChaCha technique, but he’s always a pleasure to watch.
Georgia/Giovanni – Rumba. Loved her costume and her acting performance. Some very nice moments in the dance even if it wasn’t as flowing and sinuous (to use Bruno’s word) as I like a rumba. Glad Len called out Giovanni for shaking his head. The little Italian stallion need to be reigned in early or I can see him getting obnoxious.
Helen/Aljaz – Foxtrot. Lovely smooth performance. They’re very pleasant to watch.
Daniel/Kristina – ChaCha. It was cute.
Kirsty/Brendan – American Smooth. Not too bad, but she does need to work on her arms. Hopefully that will come now that she’s relaxing. I think there was some decent dancing from her but her costume was just overwhelming.
Peter/Janette – Paso Doble. Not gonna lie, I didn’t enjoy this one very much.
Jamelia/Tristan – Salsa. I do see improvement from Jamelia, and I wanted to love this dance, but it wasn’t anything special. I think the judges were very kind with their scores in an effort to keep her out of the bottom two.
Jeremy/Karen – Charleston. I missed their dance and need to go back and watch it later.
Anita/Gleb – American Smooth. Loved, loved, loved this — the costumes, the setting, the dancing. Did not like the body-drag, it was innovative but it totally broke the mood of the dance for me both with the look and the speed. That said Anita is amazing. She’s a natural dancer/performer.
Jay/Aliona – Jive. A lot of people will focus on the scores because they were a bit too high and I’m sad about that. It was an amazingly good dance and there’s a chance the quality of the dance will be forgotten because it was overmarked. Also it would be a pity if viewers punish Jay because of the judges.
Loved Jay’s dance, found out from the comments here he got 10s, I thought 9s would have been nice, and 8s for Anita. Nice to see him perform more this time. The waltz was a bit too contemporary for me (Im too used to dwts), but it was great. Gleb’s a great teacher and choreographer. Did u know Jay attended performing arts schools? No wonder he’s so good: http://www.biography.com/people/jay-mcguiness-21212223#early-life
@Cidra Thank you. I wouldn’t bother watching Jeremy’s Charleston. Too much Tim Vine, not enough dancing. The fact that Bruno gave both it and Anita’s dance a 7 causes me physical pain.
Since I think there are maybe 5 or 6 couples in danger, I’ll do them now and return to the rest hopefully tomorrow, or when everyone LEAVES ME ALONE! You have houses, go there!
Sorry, got sidetracked. Anyway:
Carole and Pasha- Advertised as a Quickstep but ended up barely a Step. Just such a bland, heavy version of a Quickstep. A weak dancer who fails to entertain me, but at least there was no weather theme.
Anthony and Oti- Might be screwed. I actually do think there was some positive to be taken from this. You can see how hard he’s tried, he’s getting better, and there was some good shaping some of the time. I promise no more Oti fanboying unless they go tomorrow, which is possible, but awesome choreography, and she killed the dancing even for a pro. Hard to focus on Anthony honestly. I threw them a vote, partly because I do enjoy watching them and partly because Oti would kill me if I didn’t.
Katie and Anton- Upsettingly mediocre. I was concerned, because this song is not a good fit for a Cha-Cha, and so it worked out. The whole thing lacked content. Katie did the posing well, and there was a lot of posing, but the Cha-Cha ended up stiff and kinda mediocre. I’m worried for them, because they’re one of my favourite couples so far and they could go home now, which would be way too early. I gave them a vote too, and I hope I wasn’t the only one.
Ainsley and Natalie- Surely he’s getting the votes. It wasn’t technically well done, no, but who cares? He was a penguin!
Daniel and Kristina- Am I missing something? I thought this was the worst dance of the night, easy. Fun on his face? Where? His face looked like a wet weekend and his body like a cement mixer full of nails. I’ve mentioned Grease is close to my heart, I’ve done it twice professionally, and this was not a good tribute. A series of bad choices badly done. I hope he goes home. Seems unlikely though.
Kirsty and Brendan- Who did they piss off? Someone hates them. NOBODY else had to deal with an element as difficult as having a tail attaching her hand to the hem of her dress. That is ridiculously awkward to work with, and it showed in her technique. Other than that, this was adorable, in every sense of the word. Bonus points for puppies. They were my third vote because she’s just beginning to tap into her potential and doesn’t deserve to leave yet. Also the tail.
I think it comes down to these 5 for who is bottom 2. Uncle Jeremy is the next up on the leaderboard but sadly I’m pretty sure votes are on his side. Above that, Jamelia, the big question mark. With half the leaderboard as much as 6 places below her, a bottom 2 appearance would be very telling. I say Anthony goes, after facing Daniel or Katie in the dance off, but I’ve been wrong many times before.
My guess for the dance off is Daniel and Jeremy but I can’t help but worry that Katie will be there too (thanks to anton).
My guess for the dance off is Carol and Jeremy. I wasn’t impressed with Peter either. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him in the bottom two.
And thanks for your thoughts, All! Too fun!
Maina (#27), Yes, I knew Jay had previous dance experience. He hasn’t tried to hide the fact that he went to a performing arts school. This is an excerpt from his official bio on the BBC Strictly web site: Jay pursued his love of performing by attending the Charlotte Hamilton School of Dance in Newark. Unfortunately for the young Jay he was bullied by his classmates for expressing an interest in ballet!…As his love for the performing arts grew he attended the prestigious Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama in Nottingham.
Unfortunately nobody but obsessed fans like me reads those bios, so after tonight’s Jive, and the viewers/judges reaction to it, he’s going to be take a lot of s**t in the UK tabloids and on social media for being a “ringer”. I hope it doesn’t bother him too much. He seems a bit lacking in self-confidence, and apparently bullying was a problem for him in the past.
Loved Anita and Gleb’s american smooth so much that it deserves a minimum of 4 8s. I thought Craig was watching a different dance or just nitpicking on them.
Jamelia and Tristan’s salsa was good but it think Jamelia excudes to much sexiness or trying to be sexy. And those legs are always far apart. I felt she wanna dance hip hop or something. I am happy Tristan at least got an able partner who can move and dance.
I just cant stop comparing Peter and Janette with Riker and Allison’s pirate paso. Same song. Almost the same costume. DWTS did a better job in the staging and props department. I prefered the song edit of Riker’s. Choreography wise I liked Allison’s better and her fast paced choreo fots better. I though Peter is not comfortable with the dance. The dance have a lot of potential but it felt meh for me.
Lastly, my fave was Jay and Alliona. I thought 9s were ok. Overscored by Bruno. Those kicks and flicks at the later part were awesome. I thought those petty disco moves are inappropriate. Overall it was a good night. I agree with ranking but not the scores.
One last thing about Jay: I’m all for giving 10s if the dance deserved it, be it on week 1 or finale. The thing is, Jay’s Jive doesn’t. That’s it.
Top 3 dances of the night for me:
1. Jay’s Jive
2. Helen’s Foxtrot
3. Kellie’s Charleston – Last night this is my second favourite dance, after rewatching I just realized they did like 99% of this dance side-by-side. Would love to see more dancing on pairs, but Kellie still killed it.
Just outside the top 3: Anita’s American Smooth
Also, please Anton get a grip fast. Katie is still on the highway of being my favourite contestant this year, don’t let her suffer from your total inability to create a Latin dance. That Cha-cha was horrible, choreography-wise (those pauses killed me), Katie is much too good for you to screw up royally again like with Laila (whose downfall is on Anton as well).
After finally catching up with all the dances I would say my favorites were probably Anita, Helen and Kellie (with Georgia and Ainsley sneaking in there slightly too). They really sold their dances SO well.
I like Jay and his dancing was technically one of the best of the night but the guy still has ZERO expression in his face. The WHOLE. ENTIRE. DANCE. It’s hard for me to like a contestant or connect with them when they hardly even smile when getting good reviews from the judges or getting a freaking 10. I understand that maybe that’s just his personality and I can’t force him to change but I just can’t warm up to that. The entire dance was just like watching a very skilled robot doing the Jive. If he has the same expressionless face while dancing the Charleston I will lose all hope in him.
My guesses for Bottom 2 are probably Anthony and Carol with Carol going home. If not Anthony, maybe Jamelia or Jeremy but I’m leaning more towards Anthony – just hope if that’s the case, that he gets saved.. I am not ready to let go of the gorgeousness that is Oti Mabuse.
Loved this week’s opening–it all came together so smoothly + the dashing Aljaz leading us through it. Anthony’s not much of a dancer, but I appreciate his upbeat attitude. I enjoyed the drama-free, obviously produced packages–I don’t care for showmances or celeb/pro tension. Cidra (#26) is right about the poor costume choices for Kirsty and Peter. I liked the Bond-themed rumba, even if it wasn’t perfect.
My favorites on the show and of the night are:
Aliona/Jay–thanks to the posters above for doing the research on his background. It was pretty obvious that he must’ve done something before–that technique doesn’t happen overnight. I don’t mind–I thought it was an amazing number. Probably the first time I watched a male celebrity the whole time during a jive instead of the female pro. I adored last week’s waltz, too.
Helen/Aljaz–she might become one-note, but she can turn out an elegant dance and they’re a lovely couple.
Anita/Gleb–she’s just missing some technique, which brought her scores down. But she’s doing marvelously for a non-dancer, and I like Gleb’s choreography. (On a shallow note, it was nice to see him freshly shaven for a change.)
Jeremy’s dance was good fun. I’m glad he got some encouraging scores. Kellie and Kevin are always good (I suspect she’s got a bit of dance training in her background too), but they don’t make as much impact as some of the other couples.
All of sudden this week I cannot watch the dances on the Strictly you tube channel. And I cannot find any of the dances except what you posted here while doing a search . BBC having issues with letting the world see the show.
I’m not going to spoil it for everyone but my friends just texted me and the dance off is definately one that I didn’t see coming and who goes home is a shock to me.
I’m not that surprised about the results as it goes, but I’m disappointed in many ways. Would have been far more interesting if the judges hadn’t padded Jeremy and Jamelia’s scores to the heavens.
@mr A: I’m disappointed as well but I really thought the the eliminated couple had so much potential and was so much fun to watch. I hate to say it but I hope that scd brings them back for some Christmas special down the road becuase that pairing was dynamite.
Agreed. For me there are 3 couples with ZERO potential and they all avoided the dance-off again. The couple that left had passion, chemistry and for me a high entertainment factor. It’s too soon to lose that.
Called the elimination correctly! Call me the Heidi of SCD 😉
To be honest my gut feeling is the BBC were angry with him, because his shoulder injury was worse than it was made out to be. They probably thought he’d be a contender, so they paid him a lot of money to join the show and gave him their very promising new female only for him to not really let on how bad his injury was. It saddled him throughout the whole process and he couldn’t dance to his full potential because of it. I could tell as soon as he was given that number 2 coffin slot and those scores that he was in big trouble.
On a side note, Tristan’s shocked face when they were called safe was a picture, you could clearly tell that he couldn’t believe it!
Mr A, we did our work and managed to get Tristan through without a trip to the dance-off. However, the Charleston next week just seems like a “di-saaaaah-ster” waiting to happen. I can’t imagine Jamelia managing the swivel, the sychronization, and the goofiness needed for that one.
CC NY, I think your impression of Jay is going to be the one that a lot of viewers share. If he can’t find a way to be more expressive, viewers won’t be able to connect with him. The voting public responds to a unique combination of personality and skill. Right now Jay has skill by the bucket load, but if he can’t bring out his personality on the dance floor and in the “Claude-itorium”, he’s going to be just another good dancer who doesn’t have a hope of winning, and could risk being in the dance-off and a shocking elimination.
My top 4 right now are:
Jay. I think he’s got wonderful dance talent and is very sweet. His quietness doesn’t bother me. However, I agree he needs to show a lot more emotion in his face on the dance floor. He’s an artist, so I think he can do it, but we’ll have to wait and see. I also love the fact that he’s a celebrity guy who can actually dance. He’s the only male celeb with enough dance ability to be a legitimate winner, in my opinion.
Anita. I love her, and I think she’s a natural. No quantifiable dance training that I’m aware of but lots of dance potential just waiting to be tapped, and she has an enthusiastic, upbeat, trusting personality that comes through beautifully when she dances. She’s not afraid of showing emotion.
Kellie. She’s a fireball; full of energy and enthusiasm and a strong dancer. I find her very engaging. I want to see if she can contain all that energy enough to deliver a dreamy, elegant waltz or sensuously romantic rumba. Um, well she’s dancing with Kevin so a sensuous rumba might be a bit of a stretch, even for an actress.
Helen. She and Aljaz are lovely to watch, but she’s a bit of a wind-up music-box porcelain doll for me right now. Maybe it’s her ballet background that makes her dancing a bit stilted. She needs to find a way to be softer and a tad more earthy/organic in her movement.
Georgia and Katie might sneak into my Top 4 if some of the others falter and if Giovanni and Anton don’t ruin their chances.
I suppose Kirsty could be a dark horse, but it seems like Brendan is on the wrong side of the judges/producers, and he can also be his own worst enemy.
Well I, like CCNY, had the displeasure of finding out SCD’s YT page region locked this week’s videos.
Thanks for being a stinker to whomever is in charge of decisions like that.
I’ve managed to find Jamelia, Helen, Anita and Jay’s dances thankfully. And since those are the four I really care about anyway, it works. Haha.
Helen’s a vision and I love watching her dance. She’s so graceful and she’s only going to get better. My one problem with her is that something is missing… And sadly I can’t place my finger on what that is exactly.
Jamelia really improved this week and I honestly think she could have had another 7 or two thrown in there. Her lift was not great, and getting up from that fall-spin thing was pretty bad, but she’s improving and I hope that continues because I’d hate to see her in the dance off again.
I really did not like Anita’s outfit. It looked weird on her and the wig definitely didn’t help. lol That said, i really liked her dance. Gleb’s doing a good job with her and she’s really only going to get better. i’d like to see her with a bit of a slower dance, honestly. Her dance this week, while ballroom, was still fast for my liking. So a waltz or a rumba would be nice to see from her.
Gosh wow. Jay KILLED that Jive. I still think Jay needs to work on showman ship, because I’ve seen better performed jives than his. But his technique, to echo Craig, is really something SCD and maybe even DWTS has ever seen before. He’s on a level all his own, prior training notwithstanding. It was just so CLEAN. And he was so ins sync with Aliona. A great dance for the final spot on the show, for sure.
I agree on all points. I so so wish he had been a contender but it wasn’t to be. Oti more than proved herself in the three dances they had and that’s all I’ll say on her for now. I’m happy for Tristan, I Tweeted him about it just after the results show, he is the nicest guy and it was sweet how shocked he was but I think Charleston is a big old brick wall in front of them. She’s had Cha-Cha and Salsa in the last two weeks, the two dances which I think suit her vibe the best and are the closest to “pop star dancing” and has averaged 23, even with some suspect scoring last night. It’s not good enough, and now when she’s actually being challenged, I don’t know if she can step up and take it on. Far be it for me to be the prophet of doom, but I think it will be a very tough week for them. Dances for next week in general are…interesting. I am so many kinds of dreading Jeremy’s Jive.
Katy (#36) and others having trouble watching this: there are other ways of watching things online, outside the official TV network websites. I live in Europe and watch this and DWTS online, but not via ABC/BBC. I don’t want to break any rules here, so will leave it at that. (Would be glad to post a link if the site runners are okay with that.)
Lenka, thanks. To be on the safe side, I’m not sure you should post those links.
I took the day off yesterday. So, I’m just getting caught up with the elimination show (thanks Andrea for having my back). I was so relieved when Tristan and Jamelia didn’t have to do the dance off. And M8, yep, you called the elimination correctly and you are the Heidi of SCD. lol So cute. And wow, the pro numbers. Once again. I’m in awe. I wish for our version of DWTS to either make the show longer on Monday nights or for them to return the Results Shows. I really miss those Pro numbers.
Thanks for all of your comments and reviews. This is so fun every week.
And Cidra, ditto to your top 4! Gleb and Anita are my #1 fave. Gleb just needs to keep polishing her. Jay is my second fave. With every week, he breaks out of that shell even more. And I just love Kellie and Helen. They radiate and are both so cute.
I find it very fishy that SCD and DWTS have both blocked international viewers at the same time. Do not understand why and it is beyond frustrating. It really takes time to browse through all the videos on youtube to try and find what you want. So much easier to subscribe to their youtube channel. Anyway I think I have found a way.
Thank you guys for taking the time to do this. It makes watching the show more enjoyable.
Yeah if you want to access both then it’s a proxy job depending on where your from. Irritating but only takes a couple of minutes to be fair.
@Katy: Especially since we’ve yet to go a single episode of DWTS without someone mentioning to subscribe to the YouTube page this season. Suddenly they wan’t everyone to check out their YouTube page but apparently ONLY if you live in the US.
I’d say the same for SCD, but since I don’t watch the show on these streams (something about the links that just makes me uncomfortable…) I have no idea if Tess or Claudia are telling people to subscribe to SCD’s YouTube page.
Don’t think its been mentioned but the bbc might have geo blocked the strictly yt because of the brit gov…basically the gov are reviewing how well the bbc are spending the tv licence money (a tv tax everyone has to pay to watch tv in britain – which is also where strictly gets its funds from), so maybe the bbc are trying to prove to the gov that strictly is worth the money by showing its popularity in britain + britain alone? Basically if its brits that have to pay for it (no advertisers) then only brits should get to view it…not sure how well i’ve explained that + have no idea why it coincided with dwts doing the same, but i hope that helps a bit 🙂
Also loved anita, jeremy + jay’s dance, but finding it hard to connect with jay the most at the mo….
So this is the part of the week where I would normally post next week’s dances and songs but Kevin and I have been celebrating our birthday (shame Maggie Thatcher died, we used to be quite a trio.) If people want the list, it’s on the BBC Strictly page, and I can post it tomorrow. For now, the main highlights
Anita and Gleb- Samba to Hips Don’t Lie by Shakira
Jamelia and Tristan- Charleston to Straight Up by Scott Bradley’s Postmodern Jukebox (which I think is a Paula Abdul cover)
Thoughts: I’ve actually danced Samba to Hips Don’t Lie before. It was a horrible experience but I still love the song. This could be a weird PTSD flashback moment for me, but it seems like a very good combo of couple, dance and song. I think this is the week Anita breaks out of the high-midtable-just-below-30 zone and becomes a big threat.
Still think Charleston is a bad fit for Jamelia, and given that she’s been only OK with dances I’d consider a good fit I have major concerns. Love love love the song though, and it’s one of my favourite things about the show is being introduced to weird new music. For example, I’m still in love with French Chilean rapper Ana/Anita Tijoux, after Candace Cameron-Bure danced Argentine Tango to one of her songs in season 18. I swear, like 30% of my music comes from dancing and watching other people dance.
My other thought is that they really aren’t bothering to make sure everyone gets a good spread of dances early on. Anita in particular is back to a fast Latin or Latinesque dance for the third week out of four, as is Jeremy, who’s doing Jive this week.
Thanks Mr A! I can’t wait to see Gleb and Anita again. I love their song too.
And like you, I’m worried on the Charleston for Jamelia too. BTW, does this show love the Charleston or what? It seems every week since it started, someone is doing a Charleston. Nathan actually told me this dance was big there, but, I didn’t realize how much.
Another Samba to hips don’t lie. Let’s hope Anita can do a better job than Sid Owen.
Sid Owen’s Hips Don’t Lie dance was a Salsa but I think Samba’s better suited to it, and obviously Anita is better suited to the style than Sid was. Sid Owen was a weird one: started off great but ended up going out third with every score equal to or lower than the last. Daniel O’Donnell has so far done the same, and I’d be pretty thrilled if he were the third to go this series.
Charleston might be the most popular style on the show. I think Anthony and Oti would also have done one this week had they stayed, which would have been interesting. Since series 7, when it was introduced, so many couples have Charleston as their “calling card” dance, so to speak. The best known are Chris and Ola who won series 7 on their Charleston, and Sophie and Brendan from 2013 who were eliminated in the final in Charleston costume without getting to do it again; but there are other standout couples like last year’s winners Caroline and Pasha and the 2012 finalists, all 4 of whom got 38-40 on a Charleston or a Charleston fusion. As for why, it’s hard to say why something captures the attention of the people but a few things spring to mind. It’s heavily character based which makes it engaging for people, we Brits love a bit of well-done silliness, which Charleston can deliver, there’s been a big 20s revival over the last 5 years and it’s fun watching people have fun. To me it’s just a fact, like a rite of passage every couple has to do a Charleston at some point. It’s not my favourite style but it is a nice handful of sprinkles in the ballroom sundae that is the show.
Very cool. Thanks for explaining. It’s fascinating!! I am loving how each version of the show from different countries is so unique.
