Dancing With The Stars Season 21 Week 5 “Maks Is Back” Promo – Video
Thanks to @Idolxfactor1 for recording this fun promo that aired during GMA this morning. Eeek, not sure I’m ready for Maks to be back. lol
ETA: Here is a slightly different version…
He is like a bad rash. U take the antibiotics and u think you are cured, but then there is another outbreak.
I will def need some strong “sweet tea” from the back veranda for tonight’s show. That and my mute button.
UGH.
I am excited to have Maks back…love him or hate him, his stage presence is bigger than life and I have missed him.
I certainly prefer Maks to his brother. Can’t believe I’m saying that, but there it is.
I’d agree with that, Heidi – I find most of my issues with Maks just stem from him not always making the smartest decisions (which is just mildly annoying), rather than him being outright cruel or conniving (which I have a major problem with). He can also be hilarious – can’t say the same for his brother.
I agree! Val or Maks?….. MAKS!
I give Maks a lot of leeway because he can be an idiot, but I think overall is he is a decent person and is pretty likable/funny – and that goes a long way in my estimation. He’s a flawed, but entertaining figure. Val seems to have the same issues, but magnified by a sense of entitlement, persecution complex, and an even bigger ego – without the humor and congeniality to soften those edges.
Val is probably more talented than Maks, but I’d still take the older any day over the younger.
When Maks had grown so bitter about the show I just wanted him to get out of the way to let Val out from under that shadow so we could see what he could do. OK, can put the shadow back, I’ll take Maks too.
@Fig – Agreed, Fig. And I think we saw a lot of the good in Maks when he was with Kirstie – he was having fun, didn’t seem to be laser-focused on the MBT, and he was HILARIOUS. I think a lot of the bitterness was just a result of getting swept up in the DWM propaganda machine. Maks is really more just a bull in a china shop than a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Very true, and I also think Maks is much more the sensitive, insecure type – I hated how he handled the breakup with Karina, but I think in regaining that friendship it spoke very highly to both of their characters. He’s pretty harmless. Val is much more reptilian – and he commits one of my least favorite crimes when he uses “big” words incorrectly in an attempt to sound smart. Just stop putting on airs, Val.
I agree between the two Maks over Val hands down. However that is like asking me which I want for dinner Sardines or Anchovies(sp). Neither is an appealing choice.
After watching the Access Hollywood interview I was sorely tempted to tweet to Val:
Aww, that’s so sweet Val. You’re very subordinate too!
but I knew it would just rouse the rabble so I didn’t.
@Suzy – I find the most effective course of action with that individual is to act as if he doesn’t exist. I will no longer speak his name – he thinks all we do is stalk him? Let’s see how he likes it when nobody is talking about him at all…
Well, I’m all for that, Courtney! The less PR (good or bad) he gets, the better!
He wishes. lol How can fans stalk him when he’s got half or more of the DWTS fan base at twitter blocked…and for no reason?
@Vogue – Who? 😉
To be honest, I can’t say that Maks or Val is “likable,” they’re just kinda there for me. I don’t hate them at all, but I don’t feel anything when I see either of them. I would give Maks the edge on looks, but he does not heat me up like he does many women.
lolllll!!x
I actually like both sardines and anchovies, but I hear you PJ and am right there with you.
I used to like Val, but now they’re both pretty much on par for me. Whenever I listen to either speak, I just remember Maks said they were taught the end justifies the means since only the end result matters in their world.
LOL. I laugh very hard whenever I see the 3 MBTs displayed in their studio and in almost any event they go. And then I think of Derek w/ his 2 Emmys – heh. No comparison at all. The C bros are in the same mold. Arrogant and entitled. Val listing his accomplishments and teaching credentials? Pathetic. You don’t have to do that since people judge you with what you show and your work ethics.
Maks can be a pill, but I always got the impression from him that he was a nerdy mcspazzatron trapped in a hot dude’s body. He never takes the God’s gift to women thing seriously. He’s in on the joke. Unlike He Who Must Not Be Named.
Maks, to me, has always been funny and entertaining (great body) and has a nice smile. Val has always been too serious in an arrogant way. I remember in an interview they asked him what his favorite cartoon was and he said he never watched them, he was too busy reading tha paper as a child! Both a little too full of themselves, but Val takes it to an extreme. That said, I’m looking forward to his dance with Bindi.
Susan2 – He Who Must Not Be Named! Love it! Both villainous in mind!
“Both villainous in mind!” Should read: both villainous in MY mind! Can’t say what’s going through his mind, although if past actions are any indication, it’s probably all about him!
I doubt Val read the paper as a child – just trying to make himself sound smarter again. He has a long history of that.
PH – of course he didn’t but he likes that persona he has created. Broody, serious, intellectual (ahem), etc…. I don’t think he a bad guy, but he needs to lighten up.
I agree he isn’t as bad as Val with regards to their egos but I kinda feel like they could have gotten any other former pro and I would be happier hopefully he doesn’t come back as a pro next season.
@Vin..
He will be back next season no doubt. In his sympathy rant last season, he said DWTS is all he’s got.
As for Maks or Val….neither one really does anything for me and at my age I need lots of help. (Maks is better looking, and does show some humor now and then) But, as far as a great, perfect physic, I’ll take Derek Hough with his blond hair and blue eyes and great body (it’s perfect for Ballroom dancing).
Between Maks & Val in dancing, Maks is a better dancing IMO. Val can choreograph somewhat better than Maks, sometimes (especially if they get an already perfected dancer ringer) 🙂
The verdict on Maks: mostly okay, some slightly backhanded compliments, but whatever. He was fine, but I think there was definitely a “replace Len” agenda on his plate. Still, I do love he and Bruno together.
As for looks, Maks wins hands down (even with that ridiculous hair) over Val, and for me personally, even over everyone else except probably Tristan, Gleb, and Keo. Objectively I realize that Derek is a great looking guy, has an amazing personality and talent – and truly one of my favorites on the show, but he leaves me stone cold in the lust department for some reason (really the only one that perks me up is Tristan – who is the total package for me).
I found it rather funny that Maks is more of a Len type judge with regards to wanting more traditional routines on the show. Remember when he went off on Len when he complained about one of Maks’ routines and Maks said Len was out off touch and should retire? Hello irony!
I thought Maks did pretty decent last night. Personally I preferred opinionated Maks much more than the bland Maks we got last he judged. It was almost like getting a neutered Maks then.
I liked the suit he had on last night too.
